Fitness Shin Splints Dec 11 2007
02:39 (UTC)

hey i went through some intense shin splints about 2 years ago. I had them during my soccer season but i played through the pain...which probably wasnt a good idea....and it took me about a good 6 months for my shins to totally heal. After the really bad pain subsided(which occured when i stopped moving)...the only pain id have is if something hit me in the shin. All i have to say is follow R.I.C.E...that is rest, ice, compression, elevation. Ice up about 20 mins on, 40 mins off after your walks. Elevate your legs while you're icing them too. Most importantly....cut down your long walks to about 2-3 miles and rest as much as possible.

i suffered from shin splints during my soccer season...and it wasnt fun.

Try investing in some gel soles...they really do help. Also, ice your shins after you take a shower after working out. I believe its 20 mins on, 40 mins off. You might want to research about that though.

Mine took a little over 4 months to heal...not to worry though...i did not take care of my shins too well because of my soccer season.

best of luck!
Fitness how fast do you run? Sep 15 2007

the speed you are running at right now is great....and yes you will eventually be able to run longer at 6mph without tiring too fast. Im 16, male, 140lbs, and i run at 6mph and sometimes 7mph when i feel motivated =P Well....as long as you incorporate some weight lifting 3x a week (different days that your cardio) you're basically guaranteed to not lose muscle mass.

Working your triceps out will help with that flabby part of your arm. There are exercises for this muscle (using dumbells) including:
triceps extension
triceps kickback
Skull Crushers (Lying tricep extensions)

Fitness Protein after Cardio? Or general nutrition thoughts? Aug 06 2007

ive read that eating protein before and after is better than just eating it before or after. Some carbs and protein before you work out will be good. Mainly protein after, but have some carbs too. Gaining muscle takes time, so you will most likley see gains about 4-6 weeks into your routine, however protein will definitley aid you in this process A LOT.

Hey, Im a 16 year old and ive never liked the prices in abercrombie...if they want high quality jeans like that...try taking them to american eagle. The jeans there are half the price of what they are in abercrombie, and they are great quality. Also, Aeropostale is a great store since they have quality clothes for a quality price.
Fitness Barefoot running on beach? Aug 02 2007

id say go for it...just run on the wet sand close to the shore line....it would definitely strengthen your feet. Just be careful about sharp objects(sand,glass)....they tend to be all around beaches. Otherwise its fun ^_^

Health & Support Anyone know how to help with shin splints? Jul 30 2007

from what you said...that doesnt sound like shin splints but rather just your calf muscle cramping. If you are getting those cramps....add a little extra salt to your food (not too much) and drink more water.

i had shin splints during soccer season...which sucked...however i still played through the season in lots of pain...enough to where my legs were shaking. I know that wasnt a good move...so my shin splints took around 4 months to heal. All you can do is lower the intensity of your running to the point where the pain isnt negatively affecting your performance.

Fitness Last Layer of Fat.... Jul 23 2007
02:46 (UTC)
yeahh i have the same problem as you. That last layer of fat is probably the hardest layer to get rid of....ive been at that stage for a couple of months now, but im doing heavier lifting and cardio 2x a week for now...then once i reach a good size ill attempt to rid myself of that stubborn layer to have a better definition.....and im sure that its not gonna be easy, but you just have to have patience and work hard!!
Fitness Anyone use th e Bowflex with PowerRods? Jul 22 2007
17:39 (UTC)
yeah...you probably wont get majorly ripped on a bowflex, however you can still gain muscle and have a nice physique. Also, "toning" isnt the best word to use in the fitness world as you will gain muscle or not.

Health & Support Food Intolerances? Jul 16 2007

yeah ive heard that IBS can lead to food intolerances, and that food intolerances alone can make you feel as if you have IBS. So you can have a food intolerance and not have IBS, or you can have IBS and not have a food intolerance.

confusing isnt it.

i believe im lactose intolerant but im not sure cause its hard to tell =/
I drink milk every morning and right after im done with breakfast my lower stomach is really bloated...like significantly bloated in comparison to when i wake up. I dont think its that natural expansion of your stomach after you eat cause the bloating is where my lower intestines are.

I previously did this workout for 4 weeks with lighter weights and more cardio to lower my body fat %

I am now doing this workout for another 4 weeks with heavier weights to gain mass, and i now do cardio about 2 times a week for 20mins.

After those four weeks, i am looking to start split routines.

From what i have learned, it is important to only do cardio a maximum of 3 times a week less than 30 mins per session for gaining mass, as more will negatively affect muscle from growing towards your standards.

Food is important too. Eating more calories than you burn is what you want to do...i believe it is 40% protein 40% carbs and 20% fat (mostly unsaturated which come from nuts, oils, fish, etc.)

Eat 5-7 small meals a day to keep your metabolism running at its full potential.

All this information is what i have learned from other far more experienced people (im only 16) So please...dont need much thanks for this =)

Bodyscience and tgpish are the two people that I like to hear from on this site. They are well educated on this so try talking to them.
Fitness bowflex? Jul 07 2007

I own a bowflex and yes they are a bit over priced, however they come with a lifetime warranty for their resistance rods. I was lucky to have a 200 dollar off coupon for the bowflex i got. I have the xtreme which is around 900 dollars, so i was lucky to get it at 700.

As far as performance, I believe you can achieve what you want to achieve on it. Its a very sturdy piece of machinery. If your local gym is making you pay too much for being a member (like mine, i believe its something like 150 for registration + 40 dollars a month untill you turn 18+ then its 60 a month) then a bowflex would be a pretty good deal.
Shop around for them, and you will find a good price.

From what I have learned...you can continue weight training and cardio, but just make sure you are burning more calories that you consume. Weight training helps you burn fat faster when applied with cardio. Just dont do heavy lifting....and reps should be from 12-15 i believe. Cardio 4-5 times a week would be good too.....again this is info that i've read before so lets see what the experts post. =)
