| Depo was awful for me.. I went from 160lbs to 245 in a little over
18months. I wasn't dieting, but I was working, went to school full
time, and hit the gym 3 times per week. There was just nothing I could do to stop it. To add insult to injury, my breast size went from a 36DD to .. I don't even know what. I would go to the store, buy the biggest bra I could find, and wear that, even if I was 'spilling out' .. My self image suffered, I felt fat (but wasn't) because all of my clothes had to be oversized to deal with the chest. My back actually began to bend to one side, aggravated by the fact that my arches had fallen in my feet and had fallen to different heights. Now? I'm on the IUD, I have had a breast reduction (40D now) .. I still weigh 245, but I'm happier. I have just found this site and plan on losing weight. The IUD I chose does have horomones in it. I chose it because it was shorter term. It is only good for 5 years as opposed to the copper version's 10-12 years. Its also plastic as opposed to copper. The copper one weirded me out. The process is much like a pap, but includes a sharp pinching pain, some needles for numbing, and fairly bad cramping for about 48 hours. They also dosed me with Advil about 30 minutes ahead of time to help me relax a little. I was very, very nervous. I was also aware of it during sex for a few weeks - not in a bad way.. I just knew it was there. Now, I don't notice it. The string gets wrapped up around the cervix. Since its only about 1/4 - 1/2 inch long up there, its almost unnoticeable. They recommend you check for the string after sex and after your period for a few months. You shouldn't be able to feel anything else. for me, now, the string is pretty hard to find - its there though, and I just check when I'm in the shower, after I do my monthly breast exam. If you want to look at them, or get some frank advice about them, check out Planned Parenthood. They will insert it for free if you are low income enough (I am) .. low income meaning below about 14,000 for a single person per year. Overall, I am very very happy with it. The Depo stopped my periods, because I was on it for over a year. The Mirena IUD kept them stopped, other than minor spotting once a month. Its been a very welcome change - my periods before birth control were painful, horrible things. Good luck! |

| Hey all! I ran across this thread while searching for weight loss tips and decided to make an account to post. I have had an IUD for over a year now. Obviously its easy to research most of it. Here are some things they don't tell you. 1) It hurts more than anything I've ever felt being inserted. 2) I havent had a real period since I got it 3) My BF doesn't feel it, nor remember its there. Do I regret the pain? Not for an instant. I got the Mirena style, and I'm very happy with it. Good luck! :) |
