I have the creative Zen. I love it.  If you have Windows Vista, make sure the player comes with the right software, if not you will need to go on the creative website and download an update or else the computer won't recognize the player when you plug it in.  I of course got the Zen first and then the new computer. Other than that I love the Zen.  Mine was about 200.  This is the one I got in Pink, but they have a lot of different ones.

Oh and I got a generic arm strap so that I don't have to hold, it works great.

I have so many but I get them all from www.cookinglight.com.  It is a great website...you can search anything.  They give you the nutrition facts too.  Just watch out they show other publications too, so you need to narrow your search by cooking light publication.

Foods How to beat the TEA Sep 12 2008
14:16 (UTC)

I always end up making regular lipton hot tea with one sweet n low packet and i just wait til it cools off...

I don't know if this is an option and I have never tried it before but i know crystal light has those little packets u can put in water to make it flavored and i believe that they are sweetened with sweet n low or splenda...i think they are called crystal light on the go.

Weight Loss 1 2 3 O'clock, 4 O'clock... EAT! Sep 04 2008

I tend to have some sort of schedule most of the time...

7ish is breakfast - about 300 cals

930 or 10 is a snack - about 100 cals

12 is lunch - about 300-500 cals

230 and 430 a snack (i have these granola bars that are two to a pack and total is 150 cals so i have one at 230 and one at 430) - 150 cals

dinner is kinda late between 7 and 8  depending on the time i get out of work and how long I am at the gym for... I leave whatever is left for dinner.

no snack after dinner...

I have actually done both a snack and no snack...I find that no snack is much better for me since I eat dinner so late.  when i ate a snack, i would usually would eat too big a snack and i didn't lose weight. If I am way off from my cal intake for the day i try to just have a granola bar or small bag of popcorn.

You really have to find what works for you...as long as you are breaking it up good and you are not starving when you go to bed, I would say that you are fine.  Let me tell you though once you start having a snack at night, its hard to stop...haha...

Vegetarian Veg*ns, do your friends and family cater to your needs? Aug 11 2008

I am not even close to a vegetarian...I love steak, but I do have two friends who are almost vegans.  By almost vegans i mean that they will eat eggs if they are in baked goods.  I had a dinner party when i got my apartment and invited them and made sure that I had something for them to eat. I believe it was tofu breaded in sesame seeds and i had pork for my other friends.  Another time i made potato leek soup which called for chicken broth and i used veggie broth and the soup was just as tasty....

In reference to them catering to me...i would never expect that. They have veggie bbq's and when i go i eat a veggie burger like everyone else and she makes this veggie chili that is sooo tasty. I think it would be kind of mean to ask a vegetarian to cook me a steak...i would kinda consider it rude.

Weight Loss Hypothyroidism- hashimoto's Jun 04 2008

I also have hypothyroidism and i have been on generic brands for about 5 years now. I lost the weight when I first went on the meds...then stabilized and gained cause i wasn't excersing yet.  I started exercising and I find that my body only lets me lose 10 lbs. I know that sounds odd, but when I started exercising I was 150 and dropped to 140 pretty quick...then I plateaued for a couple years, but i wasn't really counting cals or anything yet, then i started counting and lost 10 more.  Now i am stuck again.

I never tried having a 1,000 cal deficit.  I have always stuck with 500-700. I did notice that I had to eat like 1500 for it to really work. I do about an hr of cardio, I change it up with the eliptical, stairmaster, and treadmill, sometimes the bike.

I think that because of the thyroid it is harder for us to lose weight, but I am definitly no expert, I do plan on checking out the one book that was mentioned though.

I would say trying changing up your cardio or eat more cals, shock your body a little and maybe it will start losing again. How long have you been in the plateau?

oh I guess I should mention my stats: 24yr, Female, 130lbs, 5'0"

Weight Loss dinner suggestions.... Jun 02 2008

I am totally with gunnercade...I don't know if you cook or not but cooking light has so many recipes and 95% of them are totally delicious...They also give you all the nutrition info at the bottom of the recipes...some are very involved but I have found many that take me 30-45 mins, some less then that. Just watch out because some of their other publications have recipes on there too, like southern living, which is totally not light and doesn't give the nutritional info.  Each recipe will tell u whether it is cooking light. They also have great tips on stuff...that site is the only thing i use besides recipes my mom has given me...its great...even if you are not a cooker it might give you some ideas..

The online site and emails are also Free but you can buy thier books which are published every year and have recipes by month and tell you about foods that are in season and how to do some stuff. They also have a magazine subscription...

Last night I made Chicken with mushrooms and leeks with a baked potato...it took me all of 35-40 mins...and sat I made Kung Pao Chicken...One of my favorites is Apriot Pork Chops, basicly just apricot preseves and pork chops.  sooo yummy!

Good Luck!

Ok I am with everyone when they say eat more...I am also short (5'0) and I started at 140 (now 130ish). I am certainly not as active as you so my max of 1500 on workout days does it for me. Keep in mind that it is harder for us shorties to lose weight, especially quickly.  I certainly don't understand that concept and hate it but i guess that is just the way it is.  I am not sure what your goal weight is and your picture doesn't really show much in the ways of being "FAT", Honestly from what you say your stats are I would not call you Fat...You seem to be focusing on the size of jeans everyone wears and comparing yourself to them, trust me when i say that that is not the way to go cause everybodys body looks different, even at the same height...we are all built different.

Don't get discouraged cause it will work, it just might take longer then you like.  You are not going to wake up tomorrow and be 10 lbs lighter...

i like breakfast but I am soo not a morning person and I have to be at work at 8 so i stick with the basics...mostly i'll do cheerios with a banana and 1% milk with a glass of OJ or Oatmeal and OJ maybe a banana...once in a while i'll just do a bagel and OJ so I don't always get my protein but I think I do alright. Usually when I do oatmeal I go with some kind of Quaker, recently I have gotten the Weight smart, so it has plenty of protein..

I feel like when i have the cereal and such that its too much cause I think its about 400 cals, but I guess thats a good thing...

Weight Loss Why don't people notice?? Jan 29 2008

I would definitly give it time...People that you see everyday will most likely not notice too much. I don't get to see my mom all that often, maybe once a month or every other month and I had only lost 5 lbs and she noticed but I could barely tell, but then my boss, who i sit right next to, didn't notice that I had lost 10lbs and I def noticed that cause I am only 5'. Wait til a vacation or something comes up, people will def notice when you come back...

My friends never comment on my weight, I think its cause none of us are really obsessed with it and we have never dwelled on it or really commented on each others weight before, so that doesn't phase me...

I would just be happy that I dropped pant sizes cause that is amazing...I like thinking wow I haven't been this size in years, it is very satisfying to myself.

I purposely don't weight myself around that time, I tend to weigh myself on tuesdays, i don't know why that day, but I won't do it the week of and sometimes the week after my period cause I am so bloated and I tend to have a lot of water weight.  I also tend to do the whole eat everything in site thing. so I just ignore the scale for at least a wk and figure it will actually be right the next wk. I figure thats better then seeing a higher number and freaking out....
Motivation Uh oh...GAINING weight. Dec 27 2007
14:04 (UTC)

I have to say that I am with everyone here....I did so good at Thanksgiving and then all this stuff happend and I only worked out for about a week in the past month...I have only gained about 5-7 lbs back, but a few of christmas presents don't fit which is highly upsetting...Of course I noticed the problem, but i just couldn't stop eating...I ordered lasagna last night cause I didn't get home from work til after 7 and I ate the whole thing...I have no idea why i did but I did and I felt like a complete pig afterwards...I am determined to get back on track today...started with a good breakfast and my water close at hand...

I plan on getting back to how I used to eat, which was healthy. I am getting back to the gym and getting back to counting calories. I will not be buying any junk food at the store and I will be buying lots of fruit and veggies...i find if i just ignore the junk food isles all together i don't even think about getting the chips or vanilla waffers or cookies...

Oh and I totally understand what you mean laschndr, my moms house has all this food while my apartment does not have nearly as much so it is so much easier not to munch at my place then at hers...

I am going to agree with everyone on else on listening to your doctor.  i am also going to go with edriver on this and check out whether you have Ceilac Disease.  My one aunt has had it her whole life and she did not know about it until recently and she has some serious stomach issues now. My other aunt has it and she has now been living a wonderful gluten free...stomach pain free life. There is a blood test that will test you initially and I am pretty sure other tests as well...but thank goodness i did not have to go that far.

like edriver said it is nothing serious once you know how to handle it, there is no pill, it is just about a restricted diet. I was very thankful when my blood work came back negative...i love bread and pasta and everything that has gluten...

Good Luck!

Foods any foods i should really avoid? Nov 27 2007

Def do not give up chocolate cause if you try one day you will go nutz and eat way way too much...I go for the 100 cal packs as well...keebler has the stripped cookies and i find that satisfies, but the nabisco chocolate chip cookies do not satisfy the chocolate craving...I also like the small packs of M&Ms that are given out at halloween...one pack has only about 20 pieces and it is under 100 cals. i also go for the dove squares...i love the dark chocolate, again one or two and you are under 100 cals for the snack...Chocolate thing is def in moderation...of course if you have one off day every now and then it is not totally bad :D

Good Luck!

Well I started week 4 yesterday and I kind of skipped week 3, but i did good...I went with the time instead of distance, which i think i will try tomorrow.  It was very exciting for me to be able to jog even a quarter mile since i couldn't even do that in high school, which was about 5 years ago.  I feel so much healthier now even though i probably only have about a 5 lb weight difference then 5 years ago cause of gaining during college. anywho...it feels good to eat good, and be active since i hardly ever was before...

So back to the jogging thing, yea i was slightly winded by 5 mins, but nothing i couldn't handle...Back to my stomach cramps problem that i mentioned before. I try not to eat anything big before the gym...I usually have some fruit or a granola bar around 3 or 330 and i am usually at the gym by 5...am i allowing enough time between my snack and working out?  I do the elliptical first and I have no stomach cramps on there, it is just on the treadmill...I did notice that they are bare-a-bull if i eat around 3 or 330 but if it is after 330 the cramps are really bad and i cannot run, which i understand since my body is trying to digest food.  oh and is it worse or better to drink water while jogging? Will that cause worse cramps?  sometimes i drink a lot while i am on the elliptical...could this be my prob?  maybe i should try the treadmill first and see what happens?  any ideas?

Fitness elliptical, light or moderate? Nov 06 2007
18:38 (UTC)
what level do u do?  I do a level 12 at around 5.0 - 6.0.  I usually log that as moderate...Most of the machines will give you an estimate of calories burned...I used that when i put the activity into the log...try the different levels in the log and saw which one was closest and went with it.

I do think that your body gets used to it...try doing an every other day thing...I also have a weak ankle due to a sprained ankle in 7th grade that never healed right, so if i push myself too hard on the treadmill it does start to hurt...I find the stairmaster to be a good workout and it does not bother my ankle like the treadmill does.  I have also tried the bike...but that really hurts my knees for some reason.  I tend to do the elliptical every time i go to the gym, about 5 times a wk, at level 12, so i vary the time that im on there depending on my other cardio that day.  3 times a wk i do the treadmill (the couch to 5K forum on here is what im using).  then the other two days ill do the stairmaster.  You might jsut need to start the treadmill at a slower pace, rather than push yourself too early.

Hi everyone!  I have been with CC for a while now, but I kind of stopped counting for a while too...yea i know im bad...anyway, I am back on track..

My stats:

age: 23

Height: 5'0

Activity Level: I sit at a desk all day

Highest weight: 150 (in college about 2 1/2 yrs ago)

SW: 140ish

CW: 130

GW: 110-115

So I always seem to get stuck at this 130 range.  I usually eat between 1200 and 1400 cals.  I try for 1400 on gym days.  I know that when I used the CC estimator is said 1600 i think, but I don't feel like I am losing anything on that, so I adjusted.  While I sit at a desk all day, I go to the gym about 5-6 times a wk...I am currently working on the Couch to 5K forum that I found here...so on days I don't use the treadmill I use the stairmaster.  I also do weights everyday...alternating lower and upper body.

deb--I also have hypothyroidism and I want to say that I think it is harder for us to lose weight, but I do not know if that is really true or not.  You should def join. People on the site are a good support system and they answer all your questions, even the silly ones, which I have had plenty of.  When i first started I noticed that I lost my love handles first, before I lost any weight.  I say losing inches is just as good...you could be building muscle although I am not positive.  Have you been counting the cals?  Have you used any of the tools on CC?

You are def. hypo...I have been this for about 6 years. If your levels are high then you brain is trying to over compensate, which is why it is high. Besides the weight thing, another sure sign of hypo is tiredness...I mean to the point of falling asleep for a few hrs even after having had a full 8 hrs sleep at night...The only way I can explain that is that I felt liek there were weights on my eyelids, I just couln't keep them open...I would fall asleep in class all the time.  The neck thickness is also a sign, but that is hard to notice...Most likely the meds will do the trick, it will just take a few months to get the dosage right.  You basicly stay on the meds your whole life...but it's a pill once a day, no biggie.  In extreme cases then they will take out your thryoid and such. I never had the iodine thing, so that could also be in an extreme case.  You most likely will not lose any weight, at least not drastically, maybe 5 lbs.  IF you worried about being too thin, once you get the right dosage and you are doing good, then i am sure you can gain that back, if you are worried.  Then it is just a blood test every 6 months or once a year...depending on your doctor.

Oh and if it runs in the family, it could vary from person to person.. i am hypo but my mom is hyper.  So you just never know...if you are still confused then you should talk to your doct and have him really explain it to you...there are also books on it, and obviously the web.

GOOD LUCK!!

My shins are feeling much better as I am nearing the end of week 2.  Still going strong...my old ankle injury starts to hurt sometimes while running. I am thinking of starting to wear my ankle brace when im at the gym...Would this be a good thing to try?

Another good thing, I think that it has helped me get the weight off that I gained back, which was only 5 lbs, but for me that is a lot since it has always been hard for me to lose weight.

Thanks to every before who gave me some insight on my shins, it was much appreciated.

I'm also 5' and 23 and let me tell you, it's a pain in the butt to lose weight...I topped off in college at 150 and said what the hell....I lost about 10lbs from quiting all the junk i was eating in my room...i never counted cals then, but then i also started going to the gym, which i never did before...i leveled out at 140 and now im working on getting to 120...we will see after that...i'm at 130 now, so that makes me happy, but ya know...anyway...on to the answer...

i eat about 1200-1500...try to go for 1500 on gym days and 1200 on non-gym days, which can be hard when im used to 1500...but i try...

It also has to be said that 5' at 105 is not bad at all...It seems pretty heathly to me. Maybe try just toning up instead of losing weight.

Hope this helps!
