Weight Loss Getting married? Need to loose weight for the big day? Sep 01 2009

I am getting married in January 2010 and I am trying to go from 145 to 125. I am 5'2". To do this I have been working out 5-6 days a week. I alternate between boxing, walking/jogging and lifting weights- actually kettle bells. Additionally, I have been watching my carbs and sugars. When I eat carbs I try to eat sweet potatoes, brown rice and udon noodles as opposed to white rice and pasta. So far so good. I have not noticed much of a change of the scale, but my body is changing, getting stronger and gaining muscle- therefore my clothes are fitting better.

I would love to join as well. I have not been on the scale in a while, but I will get on Wednesday morning as a first weight in. I am guessing that my weight is around 135lbs.. but it could be closer to 140. I put on a suit this morning to go to work.. a suit that my co-worker told me a few months ago that I shouldn't wear b/c the pants were too big on me.. when I put it on this morning, it was very snug. How depressing! Seriously nothing makes me more depressed than knowing that 6 months ago I was doing really well and now I am back up to my starting weight! Why didn't I just stick with it! I would be at my goal weight by now!! Anyway-  I have to look forward and try not to make the same mistakes again. So here are my stats. Essentially I would love to lose as much weight as I can by October 1st. 15-20 would be fabulous!!

CW 135-140ish

GW 118-120

I am 27 y/o and 5'2. I have a muscular build therefore I tend to look best at the higher end of my weight recommendation for my height.

Not too unusual but I love the names Dominica, Sienna and Jaden (for a boy). I have loved Dominca for a long time and I just recently started talking to my boyfriend about names that he liked and he tells me that he has always wanted to name a son after his Grandfather- Dominic!! Great name... but Dominca and Dominic- I could never be that person. Guess we will be fighting that one out down the road. He also likes the name Sicily for a girl. Obviously he is Italian. I haven't made my mind up about that one yet.

Carbohydrates - 55.4% (858 grams)
Alcohol - 0.0%
Other - 0.0%

Daily Sugar Intake - 56 grams
Daily Cholesterol Intake - 88 mg
Daily Saturated Fat Intake - 12 grams
Daily Fiber Intake - 23 grams

This is for M-F I don't log on the weekends, but based on the knowledge I have gained here, I generally know how many calories are in the things I eat on the weekend so I keep in range. I had a few high sodium days this week.. typically it is about 1800 mg or less. All my sugar comes from fruit.. I eat 2 pieces everyday. Otherwise I think it is good. I got an "A" for the week!

Weight Loss Saving up Cals May 28 2008

Others may disagree, but personally I think saving up a few calories here and there is fine. If I know I am going out to dinner on say Saturday night and I figure I will eat a meal consisting of say 1000 calories, when a usually dinner for me is roughly 400 calories I might save 100 calories for 5-6 days during the week to make up for eating more at my dinner out. My uncle was doing Weight Watchers and in that program there was some caveat that allowed him to save points (which for all intents and purposes converts to calories). He had tremendous success with this b/c he never felt deprived knowing that if he did really well during the week he could indulge in beer and other favorites on the weekend. Following that principle and recognizing his success, I think it is okay to save up calories.

That is certainly worth a try. I get home from my class at the gym at 7:45 every evening so unfortunately I eat dinner at like 8:30 every night... not good, I know, but I usually don't go to sleep until 11:30 or so.. Anyway, I will make sure that I am only eating lean protiens & a double helping of veggies and see how that works. Thanks for the advice.

I did to some measuring this morning as well and unfortunately I actually gained (?) inches since the last time I measure which was back in december, but still. I am up 3 inches and have not lost a pound! I don't have a scale that measure body fat %. Maybe I should get one.

Health & Support Fats - Too Little? May 20 2008

A low intake of fats and oils (less than 20 percent of calories) increases the risk of inadequate intakes of vitamin E and of essential fatty acids and may contribute to unfavorable changes in high-density lipoprotein (HDL) blood cholesterol and triglycerides.

  • Consume less than 10 percent of calories from saturated fatty acids and less than 300 mg/day of cholesterol, and keep trans fatty acid consumption as low as possible.
  • Keep total fat intake between 20 to 35 percent of calories, with most fats coming from sources of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fatty acids, such as fish, nuts, and vegetable oils.
  • When selecting and preparing meat, poultry, dry beans, and milk or milk products, make choices that are lean, low-fat, or fat-free.
  • Limit intake of fats and oils high in saturated and/or trans fatty acids, and choose products low in such fats and oils.
  • I just had a question about fats and I was refered to a site that provided me this information.

Weight Loss What's your weight loss success story to date? May 05 2008
    21:01 (UTC)
    30

    Start Date: May 31 07

    Start Weight: 150 lbs.

    Current Weight: 135

    # of weeks of healthy lifestyle: I joined CC a year ago, but I have had some slip ups along the way. I have refocused 2 weeks ago.

    # of lbs lost since start: 15 lbs

Goal Weight: 122-125 lbs. We'll see how I look and fell when I get to 125.

TIP: Don't get hung up on what the scale says exclusively. Take measurements also. There have been many times during my journey when I felt better.. healthier and thinner, but when I got one scale I actually weighed more. I took a while for me to realize that I could not let it put me into a funk.

ANOTHER TIP.. More of an observation actually: Losing weight is easier when you have a supportive spouse/boyfriend, etc. My ex was the type of guy who was satisfied  being overweight and didn't eat healthy or workout. Needless to say, we broke up in November and for the past 2 months I have been dating a new guy who is fabulous for a lot of reasons..one of which is that he like to eat healthy meals when we are together and he has even joined my boxing classes. It is just so different to be with someone who is on the same page as me!

Thanks for your reply and thanks for suggesting that site. I also do drink a lot of water through out the day so I am good there. I will experiment with eating 100-200 more calories on workout days and see how I feel.

    Thanks again.

I started taking Lexapro a little over a month ago for anxiety and I feel great. The anxiety has subsided. A lot of my obsessive behavior has stopped. The bad news is calorie counting was one of my obsessive behaviors! I am getting back into counting everything again. Starting today as a matter of fact. I have not gained any weight so I don't feel too bad about stopping for a while. I plan on getting back into my boxing classes this Thursday and I am so excited about that. I have noticed a decrease in my motivation, but I think that once I get up an start moving again I will start feeling even better about everything. My quality of life is much better as a result of the meds so baring some unforeseen issue, I do not plan on stopping them anytime soon.

Weight Loss Advised To Stop Exercising In Order To Lose More??? Nov 20 2007
    16:50 (UTC)
This is a topic that interests me immensly. I have been dieting and exercising since April. My goal back in April when I started this was to lose 20 lbs. I have always been on the athletic side since I was a kid so I knew that there was muscle hidden underneath a few extra inches of fat that I had packed on over the past 3 years. Using the tools on this site I made a plan that included eating 500 less calories and burning 250-500 more calories, creating a 750-1000 calorie deficit. Great. May went by as did June, July August and September... with no loss. Not even a lb! So I decided to stop exercising for a week to give my body a rest.. and I lost 2 lbs that week.. so I went another week.. and another.. and now I am down 11 lbs! I maintain a 500-750 calorie deficit and have not worked out in over a month. I still walk casually.. (i.e. shopping, to/from by parking garage to the office, etc) but I have not taken a boxing class at the gym since the begining of October! I plan on losing another 9 lbs this way... if I am able.. and then I am going to get back into the habit of boxing 3-4 times a week to enhance the muscles that will hopefully be more visable one the last 9 lbs are gone. Once I am comfortable with the way I feel and fit into my clothes I will  be happy. This is what has worked for me. I am sure it will not work for eveyone, but I cannot ignore the results that I have seen.

I have the same problem with my scale. For a while I was convinced that I weighed 144 lbs which was such a surprise to my friends and family who thought I weight maybe 135 lbs or so. Anyway I weighed 20 lbs dumbells on my scale and to my suprise they weighed 21 lbs and when I put 40 lbs dumbells on and they weighed 42lbs... so for every 20 lbs my scale was consistently off by 1 lb. I was very happy to find out that I weighed about 7 lbs less than I originally thought.

I have made some changes with my calories and exercise so I haven't weighed in in a few weeks b/c I didn't want to get discouraged with my weight while my body adjusts to these changes... but...

Also- I realized that my scale was not calibrated correctly so on my first post I wrote 144 lbs and it was actually 139.. so...

Left to my own devices I eat great, but I have a very hard time saying no when my boyfriend wants to go out to eat or order in, etc. I try to make healthy choices even when we do eat out or order in.. but I would be so much better off if I simply cooked for myself!

Melkor- I am so relieved that you said what you did... I don't want to drop my classes- and I actually thought about talking to my instructor about my current situation- I think I will get to class a bit early today and talk to him. I think I have to make it a point to try harder each and every class.

Shiptona- I will certainly give eating fewer cals a try. I want my weight loss to be successful so I am willing to do what it takes. I just have a hard time wrapping my brain around the idea that me- at 144 lbs should only eat 1200 cals to lose weight when there are girls in the 120(s) lbs that eat the same amount or more and lose. I was always taught that the more you weigh the more you can eat either to maintain or to lose. My biggest frustration is all the time I feel like I am wasting with trial and error without a positive result. I was told by someone the other day that I should eat more calories a day b/c I workout a lot. I just cannot figure out why I am not losing. I have never had this problem before. In the past if I wanted to lose weight I would eat less, workout more and in a month I would be down 10 lbs.

Melkor- I recently added more strength training to my workout so I am hoping that I see positive results from that soon. The majority of my cardio comes from boxing, kick boxing or maui thai class. Each class is an hour long and it is intense! Full contact with bag and you don't stop moving the entire hour, but I am not seeing the results I expected to from this exercise. In the past I have had a difficult time finding workouts that I really enjoy and that I look forward to doing and now that I have found one, it doesn't cause me to lose weight!! Urg! But I guess if I want to be successful I am going to have to try to alter my ruitine.

Shiptona- Since you asked- My stats are: Female, 26 years old, medium build, 5'2" tall and 144 lbs.  When I tell people my weight they do seem to be surprised. I have heard from a few people (incl. my doctor) that I look more like 135 lbs. My measurements are 37 bust, 27.5 waist, 36.5 hips, 11.5 upper arms, 23 thighs.
