| Weight Loss | what will YOU eat tomorrow?? | Oct 06 2007 03:36 (UTC) |

| I'm going to have whatever I want for breakfast and fried catfish with fries for lunch, that's right FRIED catfish with FRIES! And I'm going to use Beer as the batter mixer! One thing I found out since counting calories is that giving yourself a "free day" DOES give your metabolism a boost, so all of you who are all freaked out about going over, get over it, it doesn't matter once in a while. I'm living proof, I have lost 14 lbs since June and I have had more "free" days than I care to admit. Heck, my "big" family was here for a whole week and I actually maintained instead of gaining, which I thought was a miracle.
But it's working as long as I stick to it "most" of the time. This coming from someone who has been working out 5 days a week (weight lifting and cardio) for over a year with no weight loss results since I started this site at the beginning of June. Most pants that I saved knowing that one day I would get back into them are now too big. I am happily a size 10 again and going for a size 8. Physically I don't think I can get smaller than 8 because I have wide hips, but I am happy and have already received my first two compliments last week (I never go out). I like my body again, and I don't always stick to health food, I eat what I want but stay in my calories *most* days. And when you say Marlboros, are you talking about cigarettes? And if so, why consider that a part of your diet? Yuck. |

| I don't even use that part of the site. I only do the calories and weight log. And on the calories I don't even bother with breaking it out into the different parts like fat, protein, fiber, etc. I don't need a site to give me a grade on what I eat, for me that's a waste of time. Might be useful to some, but not me. You could drive yourself nuts trying to figure out that activity log. | |||
| Fitness | A Little Embarassing - running issue | Aug 27 2007 02:59 (UTC) |

| I actually have a suggestion. Do you run in the AM? There are these granola bars called Fiber-one, and they have I think a third of a days worth of fiber in them. If I'm having any problems not going (like haven't gone in a day), I eat one the night before, not late or anything, maybe late afternoon. That always gets things moving in the morning. I do my cardio in the morning and sometimes I do not want to do it unless I have gone #2 because I have sometimes come across the same problem, not often though. But keeping something regular involves doing something regular, like having some kind of fiber everyday. So try a fiber type thing the night before, nothing harsh, but something that would make you go in the AM. | |||
| Weight Loss | counting day calories | Aug 23 2007 23:35 (UTC) |
|
| Well yeah I could have changed the day and gone back a day, but my point was that it was 11pm the same day, and CC was already on the next day. It would just be easier on some people if their "day" started at 4am to have the log register that your day starts at 4am. And it would be nice if we could pick our time zones too so that we don't have to go back and alter the previous day when it's still the same freakin day. | |||

| Thanks Sable, I think that's the first time anyone has ever said that to me! (jk) I remember one night I ate something after 11pm and I was trying to add it to my day, and it wasn't possible because it had already gone to the next day, I guess this board runs on eastern time?
Alright moderators, do your thing because maybe that would convince more people to join if they could customize the "start" of their days. |

| Weight Loss | What keeps you going? | Aug 23 2007 12:50 (UTC) |
|
| I made a mistake, my sister is not on the South Beach Diet, she's on the Body for Life, and they encourage smaller portions but eating every three hours. We were comparing our diets and they are similar, but she doesn't count calories. It works for her, she lost 7 lbs so far, and at that time so had I, but even on her "free day" I guess the guilt kicks in a little and she doesn't go overboard. She came to visit me and I had to convince her we could drink two bottles of wine because it was her "free day!" Hahaha!
I think the problem starts when that free day starts to feel too good and you go overboard, and then you give up the discipline. I think that's what she was afraid of, but she is has really disciplined herself, as I think most people who even take that step to join this board are, so keep up the good work or go see spjesq's trainer, haha! |

| My sister is on the South Beach diet and she gets a "free day." Maybe give yourself something like that, not to go crazy overboard or anything, but gives you a release. I have found giving myself a free day every few weeks does boost my metabolism and helps my weight loss the following week. Now if only my family would quite coming to visit me! I have been maintaining and loosing slightly, so I'm still doing good. Even if you slip, and I have been slipping a lot, if you stick to it the majority of the time I think you will see your results. | |||

| That's actually a good question, especially for second or third shifters that are not on a "daily" schedule. There should be a tool where you can adjust that. I guess this should be added to the "how to improve this site" forum. | |||

| Brooke,
I've been trying an herb called kratom, PM me if you're interested. It's a derivative of the coffee plant, but doesn't give you the coffee jiggers and keeps me going through my morning workout like a powerhouse. |

| Health & Support | Cocoa Butter & Stretch marks | Aug 23 2007 00:18 (UTC) |

| I think stretch marks are very individual to the person. For example, I have no stretch marks and I used nothing. My gyno always finds it surprising I even had a baby. I gained 28 lbs and my son was over 8 lbs, so my belly was big and very tight, but I never had them even when I was pregnant. I do have some tiny little ones around my belly button.
My cousin on the other hand has unbelievable stretch marks and she gained about the same amount of weight. I don't know if she used anything, but if she did it didn't make any difference. It probably has to do with skin type, elasticity, etc. I don't think there is a magic lotion that prevents stretch marks though, or makes them go away faster, it might just be your skin retracting especially if you have ever done weight bearing exercises, that is one of the benefits of weight lifting. I did a little before I was pregnant. I can't explain it but maybe that gives you a little insight. |

| Foods | Is drinking juices a good idea? | Aug 21 2007 03:56 (UTC) |
7 |
| The only "juice" I would ever recommend is Tomato Juice or V8 Fusion, they might actually give you something you need in the veggie dept. And non-concentrated OJ with lots of pulp. I agree with sun123, but I do think juice is a fruit flavored junk food, especially for babies, toddlers, and kids. This might start a stink with some moms, but I cringe when I see a sippy cup with juice in it. Sometimes it's a better alternative when going somewhere like McD's to pick the juice box instead of soda for my son, so I do choose it at certain times, and juice has saved me when I've been in a hypoglycemic shock, but otherwise I don't even keep it in the house. |

| Weight Loss | Diet Pills | Aug 15 2007 23:56 (UTC) |

| Silver, to address your question about weight loss pills... I think a lot are against them because a lot have tried them with no results. I have tried a lot of them because I was curious and if you feel curious I say try a few but don't get your hopes up. Me personally, if it sounds good and it's backed up with lots of (sponsoring) sources, I would probably try it. Take note of sponsors though, they will say anything works. If anything just to get rid of the curiousity give it a try, but be very careful to follow the directions carefully and don't overdo it.
I also do want to add that I am done with weight loss pills though, I've tried them, satisfied my curiousity, and I'm not wasting anymore money on them. |

| I just happen to have a bag of corn chips. Once serving is 140 calories and that's about 16 chips. These are those little ones though. I would say 5 calories a chip is a good guess. | |||

| Weight Loss | doesn't this annoy you? | Aug 12 2007 23:37 (UTC) |

| Well let me just tell you, I have two male cousins and when they were young teens one meal would consist of 2 McDLT's (you younger folks might not know those, haha), and 2 mixing bowl sized bowls of cereal for "desert." Not to mention the soda or shake to wash it down with. They were the hot tomales with the girls back then. Now they are easily over 300 lbs each in their 30's. Morbid obesity runs in my family and I guess they thought since they got away with it when they were teens they had nothing to worry about. WRONG! | |||
| Weight Loss | No energy during the day, tons at night | Aug 11 2007 03:13 (UTC) |
|
| I workout first thing in the morning, like around 8am after dropping my son off at school. But I am lucky enough to have a treadmill in a separate building outside of my house. I'm usually pretty dead after that until lunch. I drink a coffee after lunch time and then later in the day have a drink (like wine) at night after dinner. I sleep like a rock. If I don't have a drink I have a backup like a valium (only if I feel like I'm going to need it). I don't take sleep meds at all, never have and never will. Give the wine a try, if you don't like to drink, try a valium. I prefer that over sleep meds because if I need to wake up for any reason (noise in the yard), I still can wake up with no problems. If you want to talk about it more PM me. |

| Weight Loss | "eating your problems" | Aug 09 2007 02:42 (UTC) |
7 |
| I might be in the minority, but I do the opposite. If I'm upset, I can't eat. When I feel good, I do eat. The thought of food makes me sick when I'm upset though, and if I'm really upset I'm almost to the point of vomitting. But as soon as I'm feeling better I get my apetite back. I went through a divorce about 8 years ago and lost 15 lbs because my ex was harrassing me to the point I had to get a restraining order. I always hear about eating your problems, but I never understood it because I never experienced it. | |||
| Weight Loss | Miracle Burn | Jul 30 2007 20:48 (UTC) |

| I took Miracle Burn for three months, a total waste of money. It cut my appetite for the first couple weeks and then it was like I was taking nothing. But here is a tip, if you do want to continue to take it for half price and are on their autoship program, just send a message on their site with the reference that you want to cancel, and they will offer you half price to stay on. I did that the first month, gave it another try for two months after, and it turned out to be a waste of money for me, but did save me $20 a month. Kim |

| Amen Sister Liza! I'm all with you there, parameters. But I loves me my rum and sugar free water soda stuff that is flavored like black cherry (sort of)... one every night. And I know what you are saying Penguin, I also "allow" for my drink, and if it means I don't get a snack, oh well, I've done worse! (like pot, haha) | |||
| Weight Loss | loss of appetite while sick.. any suggestions? | Jul 13 2007 03:24 (UTC) |
3 |
| Whenever I'm sick I always buy the same things because I know I'll keep them down: -Fruit Snacks (the fun kid kinds, with a son they are usually always in the house anyways) -Applesauce (someone else mentioned this, it's really good) -Gatorade (drink it like I would normally drink water) -Crackers of any kind (graham, saltines, wheat thins are my fav) Lots of sugar I know, and I actually don't normally eat these things when I'm not sick, but they keep me going and I don't mind eating them when I don't want to eat anything else. How you did eggs I don't know! Kim |

| Hi Olivia,
I actually keep room in my calories for one drink a night, be that a rum drink, a beer, or wine. I like to have one drink a night, and since I make the room for it and only have one (sometimes more than one on the weekends), I don't feel bad about it at all!!! :) Kim |

| Weight Loss | Wine | Jul 10 2007 01:20 (UTC) |

| I do leave room for a drink, so I would say that I do add it into my diet. If my drink takes the rest of my calories, then I stop there. I usually have one drink a night, it could be wine, a beer, or a rum drink with that sugar free/calorie free water soda stuff (don't knock it till you've tried it! Black Cherry is the best.)
