| Recipes | cannoli cake!! | Oct 05 2009 00:33 (UTC) |

hehe ... this cake is evil ... the devil i tell ya'!!! I did make this cake this afternoon and it is awesome. suggestion: for the ricotta filling do add some orange zest, it was missing only that. otherwise, absolutely delicious! i would assume you could make substitutions (fat free ricotta, less chocolate chips, egg whites, lite whipp cream, splenda etc ...) trying to get calories down. but, this cake really shouldn't be played with, just enjoy it, as always, as a moderate treat! still evil, but so good! |

| Foods | A calorie is a calorie...? | Oct 03 2009 11:26 (UTC) |

one word answer, yes. however, to feel full/satisfied a nutrional calorie is best versus the empty calorie. volumetrics is a case in point: plate full of fiber rich veggies and some lean protein vs. 1/2 a hamburger. what will fulfill your hunger longer ? |

ask. reply to the promos and allow their junk mail. nothin' is free; everyone wants and wants for something. imo, not worth the hassle. if i want to try "it" i will buy a sample size or the regular size. if it tastes like garbage, I will toss it. |

"chick-fil-a all the way.. everyone seems to be so obsessed" ...
totally agree rachel2009. it is way overpriced chicken nuggets! so totally overated. same goes for the bojangles enterprise! I also agree with jenny8484 on Olive Garden. for me, personally, Burger King is a total waste of time - my kids "luv it" the "best". cute venting thread jenny8484, i like it! : ) |

| Foods | POLL: Like it or not? PB2 | Jul 16 2009 17:53 (UTC) |

Hi! PB2 ... I doubted it and personally, not using as a "diet" food. I use it as a convenient mix in for ice cream, puddings and such. It totally rocks in chocolate pudding and ice cream! Growl and yum! PB2 doesn't need to bought through the manufaturer in bulk quantity!!!! I got two jars (one choc flav and the other reg. pb) from another website. It is a conveneince for me as a mix in, and personally do not use it or tried to use it as a peanut butter replacement. It is good though as a "mix in". |

| Foods | someone has to help me, how can I eat cake and lose weight? | Jun 16 2009 19:44 (UTC) |

safina1, I hear you on not being able to stop at just one serving. Hiccup! I have done this too with brownies (fresh baked are my nemesis) and even had a brownie breakfast LOL. You have gone 5 months without cake, an indulgence of sorts. This is how the similar situation happened to me; I didn't allow the indulgence. IF you can, have one small peice of cake or whatever indulgence you crave and you won't be going back for more than one serving. That's how I got over my brownie breakfasts and Hiccups! You have to allow your body a small indulgence - you may be (your body) craving the sugar/carbs, fat ... Trust me on this. I have been maintaining well a year now and learned from the Hiccups! Enjoy the treat when you crave it and you won't feel deprived and end up eating more than is suitable or comfortable. |

| Foods | Walden Foods?? | Apr 15 2009 00:33 (UTC) |

Walden Food products, in my opinion, have absolutely no nutritional value! Case in point: http://www.waldenfarms.com/nutrition_facts.ht ml# only has loads of sodium and "trace" calories (water, extracts and words I can't pronounce). On the flip side, for someone that is actively dieting in keeping a calorie restriction, I can see the need to meet a sweet tooth or craving for the flavor; kind of like a peice of gum. Personally, these foods, with no nutritional value is a waste of money. Just thoughts I would share. Take a look at the web site. |

Hi, First, I did not check your profile, and I am guessing you are trying to lose weight, right? Okay, so, losing weight I can see why you would "freak" at what or how you ate with the relatives. However, after you are all done losing weight and maintaining, you are going to learn how to eat. In otherr words, I would choose to eat the way that I plan to eat for the rest of my life to keep the weight off. Were you really hungry or just enjoying good company and food? Did you stop eating when you were full? Were you able to stop eating at one serving/portion .... ? Those are the questions I would ask myself in looking back and going as you will encounter many more social situations. Other advice- stay active. I am sorry, as for your question, I think you'll be fine, especially with Daily physical activtey. If you do notice any change in the scale, it will most likely be sodium (water retention). Remember now, 3,500 above your "allotted calorie limit", with your physical activity = 1 pound. I would take this as a learning type situation and move forward. Wishes of success and good health to you!

Look at the Food Pyramid for guidelines on how to eat. It does offer ideas, not a menu of food to eat. IMO alot of people would not be overweight if the Food Pyramid guidelines were followed. Good Luck. |

| Maintaining | anyone who has STOPPED counting, with success? | Mar 19 2009 18:24 (UTC) |
12 |
I am a sucessful and maintaing after weight loss for a year now. I do not eat anywhere 3,000 calories, of especially junk food. I relyed (sp - relied) heavily on the Food Pyramid guideliness in maintaining. I am not saying I don't have a real life hiccup in maintaining, this is reality afterall, and in the real world people do make the mistake, learn and , move on. Being a teenager and not a 40 yr old, you have NO reason to be obsessed with calorie counting and eating obsessively healthy. You are young and no doubt very active. As you age, I would rely more heavily on the Food Pyramid guidelines so that you will not struggle after you've made it through the 20's. Good luck and good health at you. |

| Maintaining | Ugh, need some help/advice? | Mar 02 2009 21:57 (UTC) |

first, great job onthe weight loss! now, i apologize for sounding "rude", however, if you continue the pattern you are on - not eating and being "lazy", you will either stay where you are or fall to a weight that is not healthy! i.e. 60 pounds? look and see what 90, 80, 70 pounds looks like - one word - N A S T Y !!!!!!! So, EAT unless you want to be on death's bed. Feedng your body is most important, before your organs shut down! Then you will feed your mind. Then you will find "boom"! energy! You will exercise. Bottom line, starving yourself isn't right or healthy. The fact you're afraid to see the scale go up is understandable emotionally. I urge you to look at underweight, the conditions and health risks associated. You are, or, the mind is, slowly killing your body. If you undereat, as you are, and continue to do so, not only will your weight drop so low, but, your organs and body will shut down. apologies for sounding too harsh, yet, this had to be said. |

dessert type: daily. be it flavored yogurt, fruit, oatmeal, a brownie (real brownie), cupcake, ice cream - whatever is in the house and if i am in a sweet mood. good rule of thumb is do not deny. have one - ONE - serving of whatever dessert it is you want/crave. fast food: has been a a creature of habit lately, as it has been busy. as i am maintaining, i don't have "grilled" chicken and salad; usually a salad and burger. how do I feel? satisfied : ) |

Okay ... the fries I sneak from the hub. I get a side sald and jr. hamburg. Chili on occasion. When dieting, I got the grilled chicken manadarin salad. But, the fries, I cannot order - I love them too much to stop! The swap of the hand of my hubs is great : ) |

| Foods | Would you eat at McDonalds? | Feb 19 2009 18:03 (UTC) |

Yes I would and yes I do. I also have pizza once a week. Subway .... Convenience is the necessity of my life lately. McDonald's is typically a once a week thing. I like the "McCafe" cappicino. For lunch, it's a sm McCafe, side salad and hamburg. Dinner, quarter pounder (no cheese half the bun) and sm McCafe. I go there fot that coffee really. As for fries, Wendy's hands down has the best! 39 yr old female, US |

| Foods | Too many carbs? | Feb 18 2009 18:18 (UTC) |

Simple answer: Don't take anythingg away, HOWEVER, ADD protein. Eggs with your oatmeal (oatmeal has protein) or even a couple slices bacon, lean turkey meat. The p in pbj has protein. You could add a 1/2 cup of yogurt and/or 1 oz. of cheese with you am and pm snacks. Dinner should be 4 - 6 oz. of lean protein (grd beef, poultry, beef, eggs. beans) 1 cup veggies, a startch and some type of calcium (a glass of milk). It seems your lacking calcium. Just my thoughts. |

| Foods | Plain Nonfat Yogurt taste help | Feb 03 2009 17:04 (UTC) |

i don't find it vile, but to each his own. i usually have yogurt with warm chopped apples and cinnamon. i have tried "cofee" yogurt by adding coffee grounds to the yogurt. not bad, but, not grand. there must be a reason nutrionist doesn't want you eating the dannon vanilla, beyond the "artificial" sweetner. i don't know. if you are supposed to have fat, try low fat yogurt with fruit, add a tsp of vanilla or sugar to "jazz" it along with some cocoa powder. very good. good luck liking the yogurts again. |

| Foods | Bananas and stomach aches? | Feb 03 2009 16:56 (UTC) |

well, i have to assume it is the high sugar content (although it is the natural sugar from the fruit). this fruit is high on gi chart, meaning it is high in sugar. like the lactose intolerant, they are advised to drink "lactaid" milk, which esseciantly is skim milk. skim milk has no fat and less sugars (occuring from the high fat content of whole milk). yeah, i was advised by my son's doc about the milk and bananas. my son can tolerate 2% milk in school but was unable to deal with the 'pain' that the whole milk in my house caused him. again, i learned of this through a doctor. maybe he is right/wrong. all i know is i stopped eating bananas because of the discomfort. didn't like it- at all. |

You didn't clarify if yiu are maintaining your weight, at a healthy weight and/or are trying lose weight/gain weight to get to a healthy wwight. On that, well, I have heard dietician on TV say each bite of food is the equivalent of 25 calories. I don't know. The cake, nah. The cookie, though small, you might want to if you are trying to lose weight. |

| Recipes | Baking Muffins | Jan 18 2009 18:47 (UTC) |

hello c_jamie, I actually had similar question about these muffins! What I ended up doing (and I use prepackaged muffin mix) is add a :pinch" of baking soda, reduced the amount of milk and made 6 muffinds (as per package) to 4 - meaning overfilling. I also do not over mix/blend. Just enough to "moisten". The end result is a relatively "dry" (not very moist) bakery looking muffin where there are "muffin tops"; while the actual muffin is a bit "dry" the top is awesome. I don't know if this input helped any other than confuse you and everyone. Bottom line is the muffin looks like a bakery muffin, is a bit dry, but the tops are deelish! |
