The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon is really good, I am on the second book and I hate to put it down!  Very interesting historically, and a great story.  I highly recommend them!

I have heard that cinnamon can be helpful in blood sugar regulation, and I have been thinking about trying it, thanks to your post I will for sure now!  FYI, you can also find cinnamon capsules at the drugstore, or Costco.

In my family we say "Nighty, night rabbit", from the Bugs Bunny cartoon when one of Bugs's foes is trying to do him in.

We call each other "Sugar-booger" from a sit-com, can't remember which one right now.

When we are going to do something fast it is "like a turd of hurdles".

And, "Son of a bean farmer!"

As the saying goes "Just Do It!"  When I don't feel like going to the gym, I just get ready and go, and when I get there,  I get into it.  I feel better about myself for going and not giving in to that voice that is telling me to stay home and watch tv.  If I still am not into it when I am done with my weight lifting, I just do 30 minutes on the recumbent bike with a magazine, which hardly feels like exercise at all!

John Morrell has these new smoked turkey sausages that are only 6 grams of fat each and 120 calories (versus 12-20 grams of fat in a regular hot dog or polish sausage).  They taste great alone or in a scramble with eggs, or in beans and rice.

I get bored too, so I like to use a treadmill or elliptical by the window, and  I count the cars that go by.  I only allow myself to look at the timer countdown every 100 cars.  It seems to make the time go by faster, and its totally mindless.

Ha! Funny!

Well I have always thought that a pill or something that would make it so you couldn't taste food would be the ultimate weight loss tool.  I mean if you can't taste the wonderful flavors of foods, then why bother to eat more than it takes to make you full?  If fried chicken, french fries and ice cream had no flavor I wouldn't eat them.  Might as well just eat carrots...

Look up Dave Ramsey, he has written books on how to get out of debt and how to create budgets using the envelope system.  He also has a radio show that is run nationally.  Not to sound like an advertisement, but he changed my life.  My husband and I have been debt free except for our house for 8 years now.

Well I am with you here.  I started in mid-April trying to eat better and I joined a gym so I could exercise.  I bought a scale for the first time about that time and it went up to 330lbs.  The first time I weighed myself I was over that.  After about two weeks I met my first goal which was to be under 330.

For the first month the weight seemed easy to lose, but I have been at just over 300 for about a month now.  I have to say that I just got back from a vacation to Las Vegas and although I had good intentions, I didn't have the willpower, and I gained weight.  But, only about 3 lbs because we did so much walking in the damned heat!!!  So now I am back on track and almost to my next goal which is to be under 300lbs.

It is hard to lose weight, but every day I feel a little better about myself and a little healthier.   We all have a long way to go-HALF my body weight!!! But it will be easier (and more fun) if we can motivate and encourage each other along the way!

Count me in!

Yes, I'm with ya!  As of today I am 305, my goal is 165.  I'm 5'9" and "big-boned".  I've been at it for about 3 months and I have lost 25 lbs so far.  I've been kind of plateau'd for the last 2 weeks or so.  I'm hoping one of these days I'll hop on the scale and it will be 2 or 3 pounds lower! Motivateme320, you  motivate me!  You rock!

Foods Flavored water packets Jun 13 2007
06:08 (UTC)
They taste good but they have aspartame (fulfill) or sucralose (lipton) which is not so good.  Celestial Seasonings makes some flavored ice tea packets called Zingers-to-go that are made with stevia as a sweetener.  Stevia has no calories and is all natural.  It has a negligible effect on blood sugar levels and is good for diabetics or if you are watching your carbs.

I've had to switch to stevia and agave as sweeteners because I was diagnosed as insulin resistant (slippery slope to diabetes).  I used to drink lots of Diet Pepsi, sugar free energy drinks and those drink packets.  My nutritionist says that the artificial sweeteners raise your insulin levels the same as regular sugar...

Just a thought for you, diabetes is becoming so prevalent in our country, and education is key to preventing it.

I'm in the same boat as you, I work 3 10's (9pm to 7am) and then I'm off for the rest of the week, and I go to a normal day schedule.  I have been diagnosed as insulin resistant.  I'm seeing a nutritionist and she recommends eating 3 small meals 20-25 grams of protein and 10-15 grams carbs, and 3 snacks of 10-15 grams protein and 5-10 grams of carbs.  Snacks being a small piece of fruit and a handful of nuts, or a bit of cheese and crackers (healthy ones like rye krisp or ak-mak).  The key is to keep your blood sugar even using proteins.  If you know that you will get to eat again in a couple of hours, it can help motivate you to keep your portions down at regular meals.  I have started regular exercise at the gym as well.  I have found that I have much more energy now, and  I watch much less TV!  Good luck to you!
