I started donating after my husband was diagnosed with cancer...I felt like I had to do SOMETHING to help SOMEONE, and I'm glad I started giving. I know this sounds dumb, but the only part that bothers me about the whole ordeal is the finger prick at the very beginning! That HURTS! The arm prick is fine, and I even think it is interesting to watch them insert the needle. And of course, the cookies are a nice bonus. :) |

| In reference to all this unproven theory of Big Bang debate, I recommend everyone read the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Any fellow FSMers out there? :-) | |||

| First of all, I disagree with the idea that you can't be Christian and pro-choice.
But more importantly, who freakin cares?? Why is it that the abortion topic is THE deciding factor for so many people?? Aren't there more important things to worry about in a commander-in-chief than whether he/she supports abortion rights? Like the welfare of our economy, our citizens, foreign relations...? I'd much rather base my vote on that than on whether life begins at conception. Thirdly, why is it so important that our president is a Christian? I'd rather have a non-religious president so that there are no religious agendas pushed onto us at all from the government! What ever happened to separation of church and state? |

| The Lounge | For all you Walmart haters out there... | Sep 11 2008 17:14 (UTC) |

| I'm not going to pretend I know everything about the ethics of Walmart and other stores. All I know is that I HATE being in that place! It's so big and crowded; I always have a headache when I leave! Plus (in my town anyway) there are ALWAYS dozens of screaming kids running around. Why are they screaming? Why do they always have snot running down their faces? Where on earth are their parents?? I have no idea, but it's enough to make me shop elsewhere, even if I have to pay a little extra money! :) | |||

| "The Forest House" by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Apparently it's the prequel to "The Mists of Avalon" (which I haven't read). It's pretty decent!
pgeorgian---that doesn't sound so bad! :-) |

| The Lounge | What kind of 'treats' do YOU sneak into the movies? | Jul 21 2008 15:12 (UTC) |

| My friends and I used to sneak in little pints of Ben & Jerry's ice cream, and plastic spoons!
Once I tried sneaking in a smoothie from Orange Julius. Unfortunately, the lid fell off in my purse and purple sticky goo got everywhere! :) |

| Sunnybra, that's awesome! I have a similar story---I was at the mall awhile back, and I saw my best friend. Classy lady that I am, I snuck up behind her, grabbed her shoulders and went "BOO!". Yeah, definitely not my friend. Poor girl! | |||

| Dalmalama, I resent your statement about my man Bourdain!! I didn't realize how sexy he was until I watched the Iceland episode. He's in this spa, and he's not wearing much clothing the entire time, and I was just like, oooh I like him!
But I will agree with you about Bear Grylls---he is sexy because he can do ANYTHING! And if you can pull off sexy while eating raw bugs, you've earned my respect. :) |

| The Lounge | Cruises people, where should I cruise to? | Jul 10 2008 16:36 (UTC) |

| I've been on Royal Caribbean and Carnival----I'd recommend Royal Caribbean highly above Carnival, for service and food (but not room size).
Here are some of my favorite ports to stop at: Grand Turk--Turks and Caicos---this is THE clearest water I've ever seen. It makes the Bahamas look murky! I loved this place! Catalina Island, CA---stopped here on a cruise out of LA. It was this nice quaint little town on a really pretty island. We rode tandem bicycles and felt so cute. :) St. Thomas, Virgin Islands---beautiful beaches and scenery. Go to Magen's Bay beach--it is lovely. |

My favorite German word: bustenhalter It means bra. Maybe not the best team name, but I still think it's an awesome word. :) |

| I saw Hancock last weekend.
Good, but not great. It was definitely entertaining and amusing, but the plot made some wild leaps (even for a superhero movie!). I felt like it had the potential to be better than it was. That said, I'd still recommend it as an entertaining summer movie. :) |

| Floggingsully, I know what you mean. When I was 17 I dated a guy who was 23. I didn't think it was a big deal. But now that I am 24, I think about the guys I know that are my age dating a 17 year old, and I think, "there must be a reason he can't get girls his own age". Especially since my youngest sister is now 17 and I can't even begin to think about her dating a 23-year old! :)
(Lymabean, I'm not trying to judge your situation--I'm sure there are plenty of exceptions to my personal experiences with this!) Back to the OP, I'm 24 and my husband is turning 26 next month. |

| The Lounge | How many languages can YOU speak? :D | Jul 08 2008 14:42 (UTC) |
79 |
| English and a moderate bit of Spanish. I was getting pretty good at it by the time my 4-semester run was over in college, and now I'm losing it.
I really wish I knew more languages--I always feel embarassed when I travel somewhere foreign and all the Americans just expect everyone to speak English to them. I'd like to not be one of those people! :) |

| The Lounge | what's the worst movie you've ever seen? | Jun 18 2008 15:35 (UTC) |

| Haha, amen alibuch! Keanu Reeves is pretty bad.
rebepi--I liked Shallow Hal! (although I always mix up the title and call it Hallow Shal....) In my opinion, the worst movie ever is The Fast and the Furious 2. This movie made me HATE Paul Walker with all of my soul and being! You can play a drinking game with this movie---every time Paul Walker says "bro" you take a drink. (you end up taking lots of drinks) |

| The Lounge | Another Travel ??? | Jun 16 2008 22:49 (UTC) |

| I would be hesitant to book on those smaller airlines that keep going under. I have colleagues who have had to rebook flights and it has been a huge pain in the neck.
You'll probably be OK if you stick with the biggies (Delta, American, United, Northwest, etc). Well, besides the shoddy service of course. :) |

| The Lounge | Cheap Airline Tickets? | Jun 16 2008 16:13 (UTC) |

| Yeah, those fares of the days are amazing! If you're interested in international travel, go to the "international fares" tab on the left. Type in wherever you want to go, and it will show you the US cities with the best deals.
For example, I'm looking at going to Costa Rica, and if you type in "San Jose", you'll see that there is a fare out of Miami for $219!!! That is insanely cheap! (I don't live in Miami, but I can find a cheap flight there, and go from there!) |

| The Lounge | Cheap Airline Tickets? | Jun 16 2008 14:20 (UTC) |

| The best site I've come across if you're only interested in cheap (not specific dates or specific destinations) is airfarewatchdog.com. You type in your home city, and it provides you with the best airfares out of there (and the dates).
If you are more interested in a specific itenerary, I would recommend kayak.com. |

| My husband and I are also looking at getting a Camry hybrid at the end of this year! I'd love a Prius, but DH thinks they are too ugly. Keep us updated when you buy one--I'd love to see what you think of it! | |||

| I'm sorry about the dog foreverme. I stopped for a cat that got run over by the car ahead of me (that car stopped too though), but it didn't make it either. :(
What I can't believe are people who INTENTIONALLY try to hit animals in the road. Especially people who go for cats and dogs---these are people's pets!! People are so cruel. |

| The Lounge | what's the most unhealthiest thing you've ate? | Jun 05 2008 21:29 (UTC) |
61 |
| Once I worked at a tiny little grocery store (I was the only cashier) that was attached to a tiny little ice cream/burger shop (only 1 worker). The two of us workers got bored one night and decided to try and deep fry a Twinkie (I had seen it in county fairs and wanted to try!).
Lessons Learned: #1. When deep frying a Twinkie, do NOT use the same grease that has been cooking french fries and fried chicken all day! #2. Twinkies are like sponges. If there is no breading on them, they will absorb the chicken grease all the way to the core. #3. This was a bad idea I didn't eat much of it, but this was probably the most unhealthy (and disgusting) thing I ever ate. :) |

| I was in the band in high school, and we were playing at the annual Memorial Day service at the cemetary.
Well, there was a steep hill to climb to get up from the bus to the place where we were playing. On our way back to the bus, I saw a band member trip and start sliding down the hill. I was all, "HA HA!!!! YOU FELL!" (Yes, I was very mature about it!) Only then did I realize that it was not a fellow band member, but an OLD MAN WITH A CANE! Everyone else went to go help him up, and I just stood there looking like the world's biggest jerk! |
