Weight Loss I Named My Weight....Is this Wacked?? Jun 11 2009

This is a great idea. My 80+ extra lbs will be henceforth known as Beverly, after my grandmother. I can't get rid of her but I'll get rid of this fat!

My next mini-goal (every 10 lbs), the reward is a new pair of pajamas. I love cute pajamas and Kohl's has a really great selection so I'll probably get them there. After that I think the next one is a nice Tourmaline mineral facial at the Aveda institute here (students do it but it's cheaper).

You know, this same thing used to happen to me with yogurt. I would buy a big 6 or 12 pack of yogurt, eat them for a couple days, and then, sometimes after a day or two or even a week I would have one and be completely disgusted and gagging and throwing them away, wasting the yogurt (and the money - that stuff can be expensive!). So, I stopped eating yogurt and funnily enough, switched to cottage cheese. Now I eat cottage cheese every day but thinking about yogurt still makes me feel a little ill.

Bottom line: If eating something makes you feel sick, don't eat it! Laughing

Can you make that day a maintenance/cheat day? Or maybe snack a little during the day and save up your calories? Life is too short to go to a restaurant like that and eat a plate of lettuce - indulge a little! From what I've seen of his food it will be worth it (or at least it would to me!).

Yeah, sometimes people say stuff without thinking and don't realize how deep words can go unless we tell them, awkward as it may be :)

My grandmom is just a heartless person, and not only with weight, either. When I turned 17 she called me on my birthday to tell me happy birthday and don't catch any diseases from your boyfriend (who I had been dating for over a year and had just gone to visit her with me!). But her comments cut me way worse when I was a kid. Now I can just ignore her and assume she'll go senile soon and forget who I am anyway LOL.

Maybe she thinks she's jokingly complimenting you? Honestly, the best thing to do since you seem to have a good relationship with her is to politely let her know that it makes you uncomfortable. If you didn't have a good relationship I would say just ignore her but if you think she'd feel bad if she knew she was upsetting you it's actually kind of doing her a favor because I'm sure she would never want to make you feel bad like that if she's anything like my mom.

Now, my grandmom is a different story. I've always wished I had one of those sweet grandmas who would bake cookies and say nice things. Instead my grandmom bakes humongous cookies/cakes/etc, gets upset if you don't eat the hugetastic portion, and then tells you how fat you are and that you should really start watching what you eat. I have a million horror stories from her nasty comments - it would fill a whole thread LOL.

I like the orange stuff in the box. What can I say - it's comfort food. Usually I'll use LF sour cream or greek yogurt in place of the milk and Smart Balance buttery spread in place of the butter. Makes it very creamy and delicious. I like to mix tuna and peas in as well - it's the best thing ever.

Depends on what it is. Pizza is a no-no for me unless it's portion controlled. French fries, bread & butter, most 100-cal packs - it's usually the carby stuff that gets me. I can have things like ice cream and soda in the house and not go crazy on them for some reason but brownies, muffins, cookies etc. set me off big time. Chocolate too - if I have chocolate it can't be a whole bar or bag of something because I am incapable of saving some "for later". Single serve portions only.

I feel like almost all the 100 cal packs are a waste and the ones I don't are so delicious I can't buy them anyway b/c I will eat more than one.

The delicious ones are the chocolate covered pretzels and the smart bites fudge stripes and chocolate chip cookies. So so good but I had to stop buying them.

We spent another long night talking and he apologized for moving so quickly and getting swept up by the idea. He said he's afraid of moving and leaving me and also wants to stay in Florida because he has prepaid college here in case he wants to come back to school. It feels very strange to go straight from miserable to happy again.

We talked about a lot of stuff, including the possibility of other jobs in other cities in Florida, and it opened the door for some real growth as far as our relationship, so maybe this was all a blessing in disguise.

I'm glad he's staying, but what really makes me glad is that he's not staying out of guilt or something like that. I really didn't want that if it was going to hold him back, which is part of why it was so hard for me to talk to him about it. We also talked a lot about improving our communication.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate all of you help and concern. I'm glad this is over.

I do have family to help me here.

Nothing is decided concrete yet until the actual interview. but it is my understanding from what we talked about last night that if they offer him the salary he wants, he will probably go.

If he gets the job we can try the long-distance thing. We discussed me moving out there later if it works out. I would go now if I could, and he did ask me, but I have to finish school above all else right now. He also said he doesn't want to take me away from my family.

If he doesn't get the job, I don't know what happens.

We decided to go day-by-day here. But I can't stop crying. Thanks for all your kind words.

my question is why can't he talk about it with me? I feel like I'm always the one initiating serious conversations. It's his job, not mine. He'd be the one moving, not me.

If he tries to avoid the issue today I will bring it up, but at the same time I wish he just plain had the balls to talk about it without me initiaing it...
Recipes Interesting Chicken Recipes: A Challenge?? Aug 04 2006

First, pound the chicken breasts down. Then marinate them in Mojo Criollo (you can find it in the ethnic/spanish food aisle) for 30 minutes - an hour. When it's done, pound it one more time for posterity, and sear the chicken on each side in a pan. Then bake @ 350 degrees until done. While it's searing/baking, cook up a packet of frozen chopped spinach on the stovetop and add lots of lemon juice and garlic (4 cloves chopped). Take the chicken out of the oven and turn on the broiler. Cover the chicken with the spinach and lay a slice of your favorite cheese (I prefer cream havarti) on top. Pop under the broiler until melty and delicious!

I like to serve this dish with a side of rice or pilaf.

gym instructors are great. They are usually really helpful and encouraging, and really good at training and helping build muscle and burn fat. But I don't know that all of them are doctors or nutritionists. I would say consult with your doctor and ask him or her what they think the best calorie intake is for you at your activity level.

The thing about Curves is you only get results if you work hard for them. Because of the nature of the machines, it is really easy to just go through the motions and not really work out. Whatever effort you put in will determine the results you get. I see lots of ladies just going through the motions while chit-chatting and while it's nice to chat, it doesn't help you tone muscle. I don't think they even realize what they are (or rather aren't) doing! I save the small talk for the stretching station and I work as hard as I can on all the machines.

Now, I'm not saying your mom is not a hard worker. You also need to make sure you have the correct form while doing the machines or they are not as effective. The member guide I got has some really good pointers on how to use the machines to get the most out of them.

Maybe your mom should talk to one of the trainers at Curves and see if they can help her w/her intensity and form. That might help her see more results quicker.

I love going to Curves! It's one of the best parts of my entire day. I like that I am not sitting on one machine and getting bored - there is variety in my workout. Before joining Curves I didn't work out at ALL. Since joining I have seen a really great decrease in my body fat percentage and my measurements. My weight is going down too, though right now I"ve hit a plateau. What I've noticed most is the toning in my arms and legs, though. Before I didn't have ANY tone in my arms and now when I make a muscle you can see it!

I also like Curves because I can go straight from work to working out. If I go home I just veg out and sit on the couch. I can't bring myself to work out at home. Plus I LOVE their chocolate protein shake - it is delicious!

My heartrate does get a little high because of , but I just slow donw on the next machine and rest station to bring it back down.

I suggest trying it out and seeing if it's right for you. Check out this link for how to get a free two week trial. Buy a box of Klondike Slim-A-Bears and give the UPC to Curves when you go in!
