I use as low as 8 pounds for Lateral Raises and as high as 35 pounds per hand for the Calf Raises. I don't use anything other than the Pullup bar and weights. I sometimes use the Perfect Pushups handles to get a deeper range during Pushups but it's not necessary.

"It will probably turn some fat into muscle or help you keep the muscle you have while loosing fat but unless ur lifting tons of weight ur not gonna bulk up."

You CANNOT turn fat into muscle. They are 2 different cell types and they do not morph into each other. You can undergo muscle hypertrophy which means your muscle cells get larger. You CANNOT create new skeletal muscle cells. There is some new research being done that may prove that cardiac skeletal muscle cells can be generated, but there is nothing as of yet about skeletal muscle in the rest of your body. Again, YOU CANNOT TURN FAT INTO MUSCLE!!! It just makes no sense. I am currently a 3rd year Veterinary Student so I am knowledgeable about Physiology and Metabolism.

When I started my first Round of P90X, I could only do 7 real Pushups. Now I am doing 32. You have to just keep doing it every week consistently and go for more reps every single time (even if it's just 1 or 2). Always go in each exercise until you fail and always add knee pushups or modified moves after you try the regular way first.

P90X is not meant to get easier. It should never be easy. You have to push yourself and keep doing more reps/weight and then you will see the changes in your body. Of course, your diet has to be correct as well or it won't be nearly as good.

Don't do the Lean program, stick with Classic. You will over time be able to do all of Plyo. Just take breaks and always finish the entire Plyo routine, even if it takes you twice the time. After you keep doing it week after week, you will get better and find yourself taking less breaks.

If you have any questions about P90X, feel free to contact me! I'm on Day 103 right now

I use Circuit Training for Weightlifting Days (and Plyo). I use Judo for Kenpo days. I have a heart rate monitor that (based on my age, gender, and heart rate) tells me how many calories I burned. So I use the calories burned and time it took me based on the heart rate monitor to convert it using the Circuit Training or Judo calories. For example, today I burned 1176 calories doing Kenpo X and Kenpo Cardio Plus for 78 minutes. So in the Judo workout, I enter it in as 111 minutes and it's the same calories burned. This way I keep my calorie deficit around 300-500 per day with 2 maintenance or slightly surplus days (5-10% above my calories burned) per day.

It's impossible to guess how many calories you will burn per workout because it's different for everyone. I highly suggest getting a heart rate monitor!

Edamame beans without salt, kashi go lean cereal (you can put some in a baggie), Nature Valley granola bars, etc.  Just try not to snack too much while driving because you can easily eat a lot when you're not paying attention to the volume of food.

Weight Loss When to Weigh? Jan 17 2009
14:27 (UTC)

Really it's whatever works best for you, but I prefer to weigh myself once a day first thing in the morning after going to the bathroom. As long as you weigh yourself at a consistent time, that will give you the best results. I never weigh myself multiple times in one day because it changes based on your sweating, water/food intake, and so on.

Fitness Trim or Gain? Jan 08 2009
15:44 (UTC)

I would say go for the muscle hypertrophy with weight lifting and be sure you're eating enough calories to gain size. As long as you eat enough in a healthy way, you should increase your lean body mass with (hopefully) minimal changes to your body fat. After that, I would then focus on lowering the body fat which will be much easier once your lean body mass is higher and you're burning more calories even at rest.

Fitness Nike+ Accuracy with Treadmills Jan 08 2009

I trust my Nike+ readings over the treadmill. Especially because the treadmill I use calculates your calories burned even though you don't enter in your weight into it. Yesterday when I ran 4.5 miles the treadmill said I burned 1000 calories!!! So wrong! My pace according to the Nike+ is also much more accurate than the treadmill, it compares very well to my outdoor pace, while the treadmill reading is much slower (by almost a minute at times).

Weight Loss scale going Up while dieting!??? Jan 08 2009
15:32 (UTC)

Try not to focus so much on your overall weight and instead think about how you feel/look as compared to before. If you're into numbers, figure out your lean body mass and body fat percentage. Your weight will fluctuate every day and throughout the day so don't base your progress on that alone.

Weight Loss Drinking cold beverages with meals bad for weight loss? Jan 08 2009

How much is 'lots of icy beverages'? I doubt that this claim of colder drinks would make you eat so much that you would become overweight as a result.

Foods Holy Sodium! Jan 08 2009

Be sure to drink enough water and try to avoid pre-packaged foods. Anything you can buy that is fresh would be so much better! Lots of products now say low sodium on the front, but just check out the nutrition label to see the amount of sodium per serving.

Try to focus more on how you look and feel than your weight. Or if you are going to think about weight, figure out your lean body mass and body fat percentage.

Weight training will help you with fat loss, but make sure you're eating enough. "Toning" is a terrible term, just build up your strength by using heavier weights and your body will change with time.

Weight Loss When to eat what?? Aug 18 2008

I personally like to eat my carbs for breakfast which is also my pre-workout meal (oatmeal, peanut butter, 1 slice of wheat bread). I also try to have egg whites or a soy burger with breakfast for the protein aspect. Post-workout I have a whey protein shake. For lunch I'll have some sort of meat (usually tuna and a soy burger) plus veggies. At dinner, I have my largest portion of meat (~150 grams of pork or chicken or fish) plus more veggies. I avoid all breads/pastas in the evening.

Fitness How Accurate is% Body Fat from Measurements? Aug 18 2008

Online body fat measurement calculators aren't that great, your BF% could be way different than it's telling you. It would be better to use a scale that measures body fat, or (the best thing) if you belong to a gym then have it measured there. That will give you the most accurate answer as to your actual body fat.

Fitness why do i need to POOP when running !?!!?!? Aug 13 2008

I always go to the bathroom before I run, my body is on a good schedule now to do so!  Maybe take it easy when you run or try to run after you have to go to the bathroom. (It might not be the running that's causing it, just that you have to go at that time each day?)

Recipes High Protein Bread? Aug 13 2008
14:14 (UTC)

I eat Arnold Whole Grain Double Protein bread. Each slice of bread has 110 calories, 6 grams of protein, 2 grams of sugar (no high fructose corn syrup), and 3 grams of fiber. I have 1-2 slices of it each day. I've never had a problem with it for expiration dates but I keep my bread in the fridge and go through it fast enough that it doesn't matter.

The Lounge Advice on cutting my dog's nails? Aug 08 2008

I am a licensed veterinary technician so I can give you some advice. What I usually do for black nails is clip off just a tiny bit and see what it looks like. Once you see a white looking area inside the nail, that's when you know to stop. Then, use the first nail you trimmed as your guide for the rest of the nails. Make sense?

Back in 2004, I decided to make an account on OKCupid for the fun of it because I loved thespark.com. This guy happened to message me who lives an hour away from me and we talked on AIM for 6 months. Then, he happened to be driving near my area so I met him in a public place (I brought my brother with me haha). We ended up starting a relationship and we've been together 4 years come this September. This summer we also got engaged. :) We have a bit of a long distance relationship right now because I am away at college most of the year, but we spend all my breaks together.
