Weight Loss Does calorie counting actually work for you? Apr 19 2009

Yes, it works for me but I totally understand your binging.  I have a hard time with that as well, but have learned to still enjoy the foods that are higher in calories/lower in nutrients occasionally.  Now I have smaller servings (sometimes just three bites of something I crave) in an effort to stay on track.  It does get easier!

This year my goal has been to enjoy only one sweet each week and I do count the calories of that sweet.  So far it is working with only one minor slip.  Perhaps setting a weekly goal to allow an indulgence would help?  It keeps me on track and I have something to look forward to every week.  It also stops me from slipping when I realize if I slip or eat something now, I won't get my planned sweet later in the week.

Hang in there. Smile

Weight Loss *gasp* Gastric Bypass?! Apr 14 2009

I understand your frustration!  I've been losing weight for almost 3 years now (maybe the world's slowest loser?) and have watched friends have GB and lose the same amount of weight, over 100 pounds, in just a few short months.

Of those friends, two have had follow-up surgery related to GB (not cosmetic), one of them multiple times and the last time she nearly died.  I'll keep losing slowly, thank you.

I wish it was easy to not compare my progress with others.  It's not just GB, but other diet methods, TV shows, etc...It is so easy to compare ourselves to others that we perceive to be doing better than us.  I think I should start looking for those losing even slower than me. Smile

Thanks everyone. I was going to check with my doc, but the last time i had bloodwork, my thyroid results all showed normal. So not sure if that's it.

Did you have only your TSH checked or also your T3 and T4 levels?  TSH can show normal, but there's more to the story.  If you think it is thyroid related, it might be worth asking to have more tests. Smile

Health & Support Anyone who has/had Gall Stones.. and had to have Gall Bladder removed? Apr 11 2009

I had my gallbladder removed mid-weight loss and the recovery was easy.  My first attack was so painful I went to the ER, then 10 days later I had another and the stones were causing a duct blockage so I had to have emergency surgery. Even with it being an emergency, the recovery was super easy and much less painful than the gallbladder attacks. Smile

Weight Loss exercising more than ever, and weigh more than ever!! Jan 26 2009

I would recommend logging and using the burn meter religiously. That said, I found it very, very hard to lose any weight while training for a marathon.  With all of the cardio came increased hunger and increased nutritional needs to support all of the training.  Good luck with the half marathon!Smile
