No clue how many calories it saves, but it did look like a good idea! I suppose I would just try to estimate the calorie savings. Maybe try e-mailing the Subway people? I bet they have an idea since they were probably the ones who suggested having her do that on the show. |

I have a Polar F11 and a D cup (formerly DD) and do not have any problems... now. I used to have a lot of issues when I first bought it and eventually replaced the strap and now it works great. Seems the first chest strap was faulty. I also use a cream with it (BuhBump or something like that) rather than just wetting it. Makes a huge difference. Good luck! |

Hi Samantha! I was in your position about two years ago. I could not sleep at all. When I did fall asleep, I would wake up after about an hour. I would just lay there and cry some nights because I was so tired and stressed out. I ended up depressed and miserable. My doctor gave me trazadone for sleep, which helped a little, and Wellbutrin for the depression, which also helped. However, the one thing that made the biggest difference was EXERCISE! I started forcing myself to go to the gym in the evening and soon discovered I was sleeping like a baby. I just go all out so that I'm so physically exhausted that I can knock right out when I go to bed. It's also helped with my depression and anxiety in ways I never believed possible. Even now, if I miss a couple workouts my insomania starts coming back, but I know how to fix it. I just go to the gym :) I know you're tired right now and exercise sounds like too much, but please do try it. It could solve your troubles!

| Fitness | Weight Training with Shoulder Injury - Help! | Sep 21 2009 08:02 (UTC) |

Injuries do suck. I injured something in my forearm (they're calling it tennis elbow) back in April and it's still not any better. I ignored it for a few months and kept lifting, which probably made it worse. I haven't done any real upper body in almost two months now and I'm doing PT, but it's just not improving. Very, very frustrating. I'd be real careful with what you do. You don't want to make it worse, like I probably did. |

I'd suggest a visit to the doctor too. You might even have exercise induced asthma. |

| Weight Loss | Strength Training = Weight Gain? Arghh... | Sep 12 2009 21:08 (UTC) |

I agree with the others, it's WATER weight. You're muscles are retaining some water and glycogen, that happens, it's not fat so it really makes no difference. Don't give up. You'll love the way lifting will make you look. |

| Health & Support | Mixing caffeine with aspirin | Sep 10 2009 18:05 (UTC) |

Yes, I've heard of body builders calling this "stacking", but they used to "stack" aspirin, ephedra, and caffeine and I guess it really helped them burn fat and build muscle, although it probably wasn't really healthy. I don't know what kind of dosage they used, but I'm guessing it's more than what the average person takes for a headache. I'm sure some people are still doing the aspirin/caffeine thing, but I hear it's not nearly as effective without the ephedra. So, to answer your question, mixing aspirin and caffeine in regular doses of each should be perfectly safe.

I had the same problem with my Polar HRM. I ended up buying some gel on the internet, I think it's named Buh-Bump or something like that. You put it on the conductors that you normally just wet and it seems to help a lot. I eventually just had to buy a new chest strap too, but it was only like $15. The combo of the new strap and the gel work perfectly! |

Same problem here. I just try to adjust the position of my feet a lot and also try pedaling bakwards for a few minutes. It seems to help some. |

You probably look great at 5'5" and 120lbs. I'm thinking going lower than that may make you look too thin. Just my opinion. Your friends and family may be right.

It's just water weight. My weight can fluctuate by a few pounds either direction due to water. Just drink lots of water for a day or two and it will go away. Definitely don't stress yourself over it. |

| Weight Loss | I ate way too much... now what? | Jul 04 2009 09:06 (UTC) |

Honestly, I have days where I consume between 2,000 and 3,000 calories at least once if not twice a week and I'm still losing weight. Most of it is probably due to alcohol, but also dining out. Sure, my weight loss is slow, but I enjoy life and don't stress it when it happens. I've lost 70 lbs (from 258 to 188 and still going) in about 1.5 years and am very happy. Take that for what it's worth. Don't sweat the small stuff and don't consider 200 cals a "meal" ^^ |

Original Post by raybanslady: Not as a knock on what you're doing, but just an observation. Isn't it possible that you just end up eating less calories on a diet like this and that is why you are losing weight? I'm guessing your meals are smaller since you aren't mixing protein and carbs, which would result in weight loss. I doubt the actual combination of foods has anything to do with it. I had a chiropracter/trainer suggest a diet just like this once. I can't say if it worked or not, because I could never stick to it. Too many rules for me. If it works for you and you're still getting all your nutrients for the day, then that's great. |

| Fitness | running: possible with a weight 174lbs without injuries? | Jun 25 2009 21:16 (UTC) |

I think you'll be okay if you just start out slow and easy. Don't push too much at first or you will get injured. I made that mistake around 205 lbs. I kept trying to go longer and faster and totally messed up my hip. It took a couple months until the pain went away. I'm running again now (188 lbs) and haven't had any problems. However, I am going much slower now (4.0 - 4.5 mph) and took my time building up to 25 minutes of straight jogging by doing intervals. Just added a little time to my intervals each week. I'm back to short intervals again now because I hurt my back two weeks ago doing other exercises, so I want to take it easy and not make it any worse. Good luck to you! |

Thongs here too, although even they can get a little too wedged when working out. I also like the work out pants with the cotton crotch thing that don't require undies. |

| Health & Support | Can I help keep my friend from scarring her daughter for life? | Jun 14 2009 21:16 (UTC) |

That's a tough one, but I'd probably have to say something. Just try to be as tactfull as possible. You might wait until the subject comes up again and then just suggest that she should be more aware of the things she says or does that may permanently affect her daughter's self image. I wouldn't push the issue much, but it may get her to think about it at least. Good luck to you! |

Same problem here. I always look like a tomato by the end of my training sessions and after running. It's pretty embarrasing, but I've gotten used to it and don't let it bother me anymore. Don't think there is anything we can do about it. |

| Weight Loss | I'm very overweight but with my job.. do I need to do more exercising? | Jun 05 2009 00:50 (UTC) |
3 |
Personally, I would still recommend some type of exercise that gets your heart rate up and makes you sweat for a good 30 minutes or more on most days. Adding some weight training would be even better. As active as your job sounds, I'm guessing that you're still probably not getting your heart rate up high enough and keeping it there long enough to make a significant impact on your weight and health. Now, if I'm wrong and you're sweating and breathing heavy all day, then maybe skip the cardio for now (until you're in better shape) and add in the weight training and some calisthenics like you suggested. Good luck to you! Also, you may want to double check your calorie calculations. 1400 - 1600 sounds a little too low for you to start out with. Good luck! |

I'm trying one right now, it's the fuji apple pear flavor. I had a coupon to try one for free. I think it's way too sweet. It's drinkable and all but I cannot imagine I'll be buying one. Maybe one of the other flavors is better. |

| Motivation | How to tackle that dreaded comfy relationship weight gain? | May 29 2009 00:01 (UTC) |

Wow, this was a huge problem for me! My husband and I got together 20 years ago, when I was 18. In the next 18 years I went from 103 lbs (too skinny for me - 5'4") to 258 lbs!!! That's about 8 or 9 lbs a year, which didn't seem like much as it was happening, until reality hit me. I'm down to 195 now and have hit a plateau and am struggeling to get it going the right direction again. I work out like crazy, but still battle the food. He loves to dine out, so we go out both Friday and Saturday nights, which makes staying on track really hard over the weekends. All I can suggest to anyone who finds themselves feeling "comfortable" is to not let it get out of control. If you stop it before it gets too bad, then at least you won't find yourself in the position of having to lose over 100 pounds like I did. My husband never complained about my weight, although I sometimes wish he would have. At least I may have gotten motivated sooner. It took becoming completely disgusted with myself to finally make any changes. |
