Thank you both for your replies!

cellothicks- congrats on the masters and good luck on the CPA. My GPA is one of the main reasons why I am motivated to go back to school. Not just to prove it to employers, but to myself. They do offer night classes. As far as working and going to school, I am not sure. I worked full time during my undergrad and you can see how that worked out, but I plan to take 2 classes per semester instead of 5. I am not sure how much harder grad classes are compared to undergrad.

awestendorf- The program states that the majority of their graduates pass the CPA within one year of graduating and they also offer credit for the Becker FastPass Review Course which is held on campus over the summer. I definitely plan to take Advanced Business Law, as well as many tax courses. I am interested in audit, but also interested in tax. There are only 2 audit related courses offered, so I plan to take the majority of my electives in tax. I know that my GPA limited me from even interviewing with with public accounting firms. I am more interested in mid-size than Big 4, but do not know if my undergrad GPA will prevent me from being hired without a better transcript via my MSA...

My let's get physical challenge was to hit the gym 2-3 times a week following the New Rules of Lifting for Women program. It has been going great! I am still learning, but I can tell that I am getting stronger! In order to keep myself motivated, I calculate how much I am paying PER WORKOUT based on how often I visit the gym. The more often I go, the better value I am receiving! Cool

As far as rewards go, I'm not sure... I don't have a definite goal other than to be stronger and healthier every day... I have always wanted cowboy boots so maybe those will be a nice reward to show off my new, strong legs! The question is what is my goal? hm...

I am effectively resisting those tasty waffle fries.

Quick dinner idea for those of us cooking for one... I buy the tyson boneless skinless chicken tenderloins (2 of em are a little smaller than a breast would be and they are 80 calories) and frozen or canned veggies. I grill 2 or 3 of the frozen chicken pieces on my george foreman grill with some seasoning and I have a tasty dinner! I sometimes get bored with veggies or still feel hungry so I add in some instant rice or mashed potatoes.

Congrats on the success, findingmeagain2009. Keep up the great work!

My sister got married yesterday, so I apologize for the delay, but my weight on Friday was 183.

As far as my food weaknesses, I have a few. Coca-Cola, for example. Waste of calories offering no nutritional value, but oh so good!

I typically pack my lunch, but about one a week I go out to lunch with friends or family that work downtown. We usually go to Scotty's Brewhouse because they have awesome $6 lunch deals and you can sit outside. I used to get soup and salad until one day I discovered their waffle fries. They are absolutely amazing and even better when dipped in Ranch. In order to order them as a side, you have to select a wrap which turns out are pretty pricey calorie-wise, as well. SO

I pledge to abstain from Scotty's delicious waffle fries until...

I am in a wedding in October and we are getting our dresses fitted and altered on August 14th. The next day I leave for the BAHAMAS with a friend of mine. Therefore...

I pledge to abstain from Scotty's delicious waffle fries until August 14, 2009.

Weight Loss My unofficial game plan to getting my life on the healthy track :) Jul 05 2009

Congratulations on your success, snowfence! That is awesome that you not only conquered your weight, but did it in a healthy way that you can still live with!

Also, thanks for the encouragement!

This is a little harder than I expected. I thought that as long as I wasn't shooting for a deficit and being generally aware of what I eat, along with making healthier choices (water instead of coke, eating in versus eating out, more fruits & veggies, less junk food) that I'd be able to hit maintenance calories fairly easily. Not so much! I will get there though...

Week 1. July 2-4: 185.4

Stay tuned for measurements and positive thinking...

Bust: 44"

Right below bust: 37"

Natural Waist: 36"

Just below belly button: 43"

Hips: 43"

Neck: 13 3/4"

Left arm: 13"

Left upper arm: 25"

Left mid-thigh: 22"

Sorry for the delay. I planned to wait on posting my measurements until my mom or someone could help me, but it was a busy week.

The best things about me:

  • I am a good listener. I didn't realize this was a good thing until recently.
  • I can see both sides of most situations. Sometimes this is a flaw, because I can't always make a quick decision, but when I do decide, it is typically thoroughly analyzed.
  • I truly care about other people's happiness and give as much of myself as possible to make someone smile.

I'm glad this thread is back Cool

1. Spend 1hr cleaning the apartment. If baking cookies counts towards the time, I definitely met the quota... Otherwise, I fell a bit short.

2. Eat and drink reasonably at the baseball game tonight. I did well on this one! (But it was because I ate cookies while baking)

3. Drink 64 oz water. Almost done! Finishing the last bottle.

So... basically, I'm 0 for 3, but hopefully tomorrow will be better.

I shop multiple times a week, and I keep groceries in those green bags that they sell on TV (and in stores), this way they stay fresh longer.

Do those work?

I spend about $80/month and $25/week so approximately $45/week.

Kind of expensive for just one person, but cheaper than spending money on fast food and a million times better for me.

Remember that you can't out-train your diet. You will never get the results you want if you do not eat a healthy, balanced, nutritious diet. And that includes eating enough.

Nicely said and very true! I used to think I could eat whatever I wanted and work out and somehow get my life on the healthy track, but the numbers don't add up!

ily, you guessed it. logging has been stressing me out, but also I got McDonald's for breakfast on Wednesday and after my volleyball game, I just kept eating and eating. Thursday was my sister's bridal shower so I had cake, etc.

Yesterday was the first day I actually made my maintenance calories & ended up eating 1947 :-)

I didn't have a completely healthy day so I know it is possible to introduce a deficit once I am consistently eating 1950.

Still not where I want to be but definitely more encouraging than nearly twice that.

The reason why I decided to not jump right into a deficit is because I would literally be cutting my calories in half from what I typically eat and I know that won't last long. Also, I think it is helpful to be aware of what my food choices "cost" if I were eating with a 1450-1950 budget. I would have never guessed that a personal pan pizza is 881 calories! Or that my entire turkey sandwich with spinach, tomato and mustard is only 290. Having this data, even though it is not good news will help me make better choices and have the numbers to back up why it is so important.

Last night, I went to the store and bought some cucumbers, peppers, carrots, tomatoes, strawberries, a cantaloupe, etc. I love produce, but usually buy it and let it rot. My goal is to buy my produce for the week.

Thanks for the encouragement and you're right, baby steps are going to make more of a life long improvement!

hahahaha, good call. Probably too much to share in the forums, but I just had to get that all out there so that I will officially commit. Thanks for the encouragement and the tips! I definitely agree with you on the goal weight thing. I posted this is weight loss, but it is not entirely about that for me. I really just want to be able to be active and treat my body right, but I know that starts with getting in a healthy weight range.

First, bravo for planning ahead. Second, enjoy yourself. Everyone deserves to have a little fun. Third, healthy eating teaches us control so just remember that it is okay to loosen up, but be careful not to lose too much control of yourself or your night, diet or otherwise. :)

Also, if you like to eat when drunk, make sure you eat healthy before you go and have healthy snacks waiting for you at home (or better yet, put them in your car) -- I am notorious for chowing down on nachos, pizza, etc when I'm drinking.

ngg21 - I was going to say the same thing! In Mexico, my host family made me tuna salad with avocado & tomato ... it was scrumptious!!!

I also like to chop up bell beppers, celery & any other crunchy veggies I have lying around. I don't even need mayo, but sometimes I add a dab of miracle whip lite for cohesiveness...

Now I'm craving tuna...

Good luck!

You don't have to ask him straight out if he is gay, but you could ask him if he's ever considered or experimented with the opposite sex. Tell him you were reading somewhere that human sexuality is on a continuum - very few people fall into "gay" or "straight" categories, but somewhere in between, with a leaning or preference one way or the other.  Your *preference* may be towards the opposite sex, but you could have some attractions towards your own sex. This could be fantasies or actual experimentation. Bisexuals can go either way and they fall in love and choose the person, not the gender. The rest of us might experiment or fantasize but when it all boils down to it, we feel most comfortable choosing a relationship with one gender or the other.  It's about a preference.

But ultimately I think you may be confusing gender identity with sexual identity. Two different things. Sexual identity is about who you want to sleep with. Gender identity is about which gender you identify with.

For example I have a friend who was male and had the operation so now he is a she, but she still prefers sex with females. Now that is an extreme example: there are a lot of people out there in the world who hate gender stereotypes and just want to be who they are. Even if it means hating sports and loving musicals.

 Very well stated!
