| Weight Loss | WELCOME! South Beach Diet Thread -- Good Carbs, Good Fats | Jun 27 2009 15:53 (UTC) |

Can I join you ladies? I started phase one last week after having my surrogate baby on the sixth. I started at 203 and today weighed 198. I think this sounds like a very safe and reasonable diet. What day do you weigh in? Sun: I was really encouraged to see that someone could follow this diet for so many years and lose so much weight. That tells me this diet is sustainable and I believe in lifestyle changes rather than diets. |

DH: Hey, can I eat the Shepherd's Pie in the freezer?
ME: Ummm.... no. It's for emergencies. (Note: He has dozens of frozen foods in the freezer he could eat, all much higher calorie.) DH: What kind of emergency? ME: A food emergency, dear. Like when I'm stressed. Or bothered. By my wonderful DH. DH: You have food emergencies? What do they look like? Can you give me an example of a food emergency? How will I know when you're having a food emergency? And how will a frozen Shepherd's Pie help? ME: (sigh) OK, I'm now having an emergency, can you make me MY Shepherd's Pie? LMAO. That is so funny. Was that a real conversation. You crack me up too much. |

| Weight Loss | What's the difference between "detoxing" and abusing laxatives? | Feb 27 2008 21:57 (UTC) |
15 |
I agree. There are some great detox teas and a day of fasting is good for giving your body a rest but most of those detox programs are aimed more at you losing some water weight and do little to detoxify your body. Toxins in your body can come out your skin while sweating. I think a detox patch or natural teas without the starvation are more helpful at actually getting toxins out of your body. Also SWEAT get your blood going and actually get sweaty!! |

| You should never have more than 1000 calorie deficit. If you give us your stats we can help you figure out how much you should be eating. age/weight/height/gender and also your goal date. | |||
| Weight Loss | This is REALLY discouraging... | Feb 23 2008 14:29 (UTC) |

Actually our menus are a lot the same. I vary my dinners throughout the week as I cook for my family but we have the same kind of base menu. You are a mystery. It seems like you eat healthy, exercise and watch calories. I am sure that if you continue you will see and feel the difference in you body. Maybe you should continue for two more weeks and then weigh yourself. If you still have not lost try changing your workouts. The only other question I have is do you drink enough water? |

| Maintaining | Maintain or keep losing? | Feb 17 2008 22:53 (UTC) |
6 |
I think maybe your goal is unrealistic for your body. Don't do anything crazy. Maybe go for 115 at the lowest but i think you body wants to maintain. Just be sure you add in the extra calories slowly to reach maintenance level. This way you wont gain. Who knows you might lose another lbs while upping the calories since you will still have a deficit for a little while.

| Maintaining | Seriously - calories required to maintain question | Feb 16 2008 15:51 (UTC) |

| Honestly for maintenance of such an active person that seems low to me. Do eat as much as they suggest. If you find yourself losing or gaining over a month then adjust accordingly. | |||

I have the same issue with a dress for an April wedding. Loosing 1 inch in a couple month is very reasonable but you will be forced to commit to your plan. I say if you trust your discipline than get the 10. If you think you will yo-yo on and off the plan than get the 12.

300- 500 calories less will give you a lose of .5- 1 lbs a week. It sounds like your body has lost exactly the amount of weight it should have. If you want to lose fast you need to make the deficit a little larger (not over 1000). This is best done through added activity. Remember 3500 calories = 1 lbs |

| So funny and so true. I will tell you though after 2 months of very little processed foods, I could taste the delicious sweetness of my perfectly cooked vegetables last night. So now I love to eat them more because my taste buds actually register that they have flavors. Oh and I lost 17 lbs in those two months so YAY VEGETABLES!! | |||
