You are right, Patsy. Affection and foreplay do start in the morning with little things. This is what I hope to acheive in counseling. My husband does not get this. He isn't romantic, and hasn't been affectionate and attentive for a long time. When he wanted to fool around, he would just start it up, but of course I don't work that way. I need more time.

I read in a magazine that hinting/plotting your sexual adventures for the evening in the morning helped. So I tried that ("Hey sweetie, have fun at work...when you get home, we'll have some real fun "wink wink") or something like that. He never wanted to play that game, so I stopped.

I'm hoping that this is starting to sink in for him...we talk about in counseling, and he's getting a little better. But while there's a bit more affection, there's no passion, on either side. But there's only so much teaching I"m willing to do.

No, not really. He just likes to get it over with as fast as possible (just long enough for him to enjoy it), and one night I was pissed and said something to the effect of "I'm not a receptacle!". Sometime after that fight died down, though, we both independantly decided to abstain. I had forgotten all about this, but he hadn't and brought it up in counseling. I apologized for being so crass, but I stood behind the original sentiment. He has said I'm too much work.  Before all this, I would try some Frederick's of Hollywood lingerie, or just walk naked into the room, and he would laugh and say "I guess you want to f***".  So I don't want to do that anymore...can you blame me?

So, there's a big wall there. He's got to get more into it, and pay attention to foreplay and stuff. I've come right out said multiple times that a good foot massage always gets me in the mood and I would do anything for one! No surprise, I never get one.

Sigh...there it is.

Yikes. Your post was interesting..."there was always some stressful thing".  I'm am totally waiting for the work schedule to change, thinking that will magically fix it, since he won't be working such crazy hours. But then I remember...he's only been working these crazy hours for 6-7 months. And, he's come right out and said in counseling that he's just never in the mood. And he won't go to his doctor, in case it's a physical/hormonal thing. Yikes. I think I"m headed down your path...thanks for chiming in.

The counseling has worked to a certain extent. My husband is less grumpy, more pleasant, less selfish and helping out around the house more ( I was doing 100% of everything, now I'm at about 90%...I'll take what I can get). So that's helped those problems. But we're no closer to getting closer. He says he's just never in the mood. His work schedule is going to change for the better in March/April. I'll then give it a few more months to see how that affects the situation, but not much longer. And I'm very conflicted...l'm going to leave a marriage where the only thing wrong is the sex. We get along, enjoy each other's company (when we have time together, which is almost never), not fighting...but this still sucks. Oy

HI, OP here.

Thanks for all the input. I've been trying so hard to not be dependant on others' view of me (or perceived view) to determine how I feel about myself, but I haven't had much success. I feel better hearing that others would react the same way, and that I"m not being a super-senstive ninny.

As for 2+ years without...I'm ready to jump anyone who shows any interest in me, and consequences be damned! I can totally justify it...now that's very telling! Too bad I'm self-employed and work alone all day!

Thanks all.

Great article...I will try one of those Sub-Max tests too. The article's "Best Fit formula" lined right up w/my rate found from the age predicted test.

Thanks.

OK, thanks....I'm going to read the article right now.

Others at my gym with whom I've discussed this have all said to make sure my settings are right...I'm going to do it again this weekend, but I've doublechecked everything and it seems right. Like I said, I'll re-do it anyway.

Fitness TKB Turbo Kick Boxing Jan 14 2008
17:12 (UTC)
I too am addicted to my kick boxing class (with apologies to gigglepuppy who must do the real thing!). I too have problems with my knees. I wear ankle braces that support my arch and ankle firmly, which helps keep my knees in alignment. I do a grapevine step, instead of sideways/boxing style shuffle, and I don't do what we call a decoy...a 180 degree jump, and then back to start position. That is a bit of a twisty landing that my knees can't take. Also, I don't always do the moves that require jumping. Some days I can, and others my knees don't feel up to it. So, my kickboxing experience is pretty low impact and for the most part, my knees do fine. If they hurt, I ice them after class, and that seems to do the trick. Good luck!

Don't cry...you are not defined by the size of your hips! I"m sure you have a lot to offer the world, and that's what matters. That being said, if you aren't happy, resolve to take action. I don't know if you're exercising/dieting, but if not, find an activity you enjoy and go for it. I feel your pain...I get really depressed too, about my body. But, then I remind myself that I'm trying really hard to change it, and that it just takes time. And at the same time, I realize that I'm the only one with a problem w/my body! No one else cares! I think about all of my positive aspects that make me who I am.

Do it for yourself...and don't cry. Chin up!!

Just read in a magazine that 35"  hips is a size 2. The average woman is 44". At 5'7'' I bet you shouldn't be a 2. Just my .02!

Best of luck to you! The first step is just deciding to take action! Just that alone empowers you! Do take the diet advice/intake advice others have given. But no one has mentioned exercise yet. If you've never really exercised the pounds will fly off in the beginning. You'll sleep better, you'll feel more relaxed, and you'll really feel that you're in control of your life. If you can afford it, join a gym... there's a YMCA everywhere and their prices can be reasonable. Curves is another option for beginners, though I have never tried it. The trick is to find something you like to do...if you hate to run, don't. Now, in the beginning you'll need to go easy. Start with a walk every day. Get good shoes, get good music on your Ipod and just go. Don't worry about how long or how far at first. Just start moving. Most gyms offer free training to new members, to help you get started. Do not be afraid of the gym. No one is paying attention to anyone else...we're all there to improve our own lot in life, so don't worry about people watching you or whatever (I mention that because I know a lot of gym newbies have that fear!). And hire a personal trainer for at least a handful of sessions, again if you can afford it. They'll guide you on your workouts, and also help with your diet. Plus, they're your cheerleader and drill sergeant all rolled into one! There's also lots of good fitness DVDs out there, that you can do at home. I personally can't work out at home...I'm too comfy! I need to go the gym, since that's all that's going on there.

Good luck and don't get discouraged. Healthy weight loss takes time and patience, but you'll acquire life long healthy habits. Have fun!

I used to have this problem too. You have to keep your weight on your heels, not your toes. The angle of the elliptical forces you a tad forward, esp if your running on an incline. Keep your weight back, and periodically wiggle your toes to be sure. If you can't wiggle them, it's cuz you're standing on them! This also works the back of your legs and your tush better. Have fun!

I sweat like a pig, my hair is just-out-of-the-shower soaking wet, my clothes are soaked and my face is RED! I see other ladies w/their hair done pretty, and their clothes are dry and I want to slap them! just kidding! But, I drink a ton of water and am very fit. When I walk from the aerobic room where I just finished my highly intensive kickboxing through the main gym to the exit, I walk w/my sweaty head high!!
Fitness Arc Trainer Aug 07 2007

Stick it out. These are great machines, and give a wicked workout. Also, they're non-impact, so if you have bad knees and feet as I do, it's a great substitute for running. My gym offers an Arc Class, with great music and a teacher who leads the class, and has us changing up our resistance and incline throughout, which is the best way. Find yourself some great cardio music and just go for a run!

Well, I'm in no position to argue w/you about those machines. I was told that by a trainer...but I know even the trainers disagree. And maybe he meant just me! I will add that I do kickboxing 3 days a week, vigorous elliptical 1 day, and a weight lifting class 1 day (w/lots of squats and lunges) and I've definitely seen improvement in my thighs.

First, any cardio will help, as you'll be using your legs, plus encouraging general weight loss. You'll begin to lose fat everywhere, including thighs. To tone thighs, nothing beats squats and lunges (stationary, walking and jumping). Do not use thigh weight machines at the gym. There's two...the adductor and abductor (I think that's right). On one you press the weight pad in w/your thighs, the other you push out. These will bulk up your thighs, which is not what you want.  If you belong to a gym, or have a knowledeable friend, ask them to show you how to squats and lunges correctly. That way you get the full benefit and protect your knees! Good luck!

Soy is good for women, while men should have whey. I don't find it gritty...I make a killer shake. Chocolate soy powder, 1 cup nonfat milk, 6or 8oz nonfat vanilla yogurt, plus one icecube. Blend in blender, and it's frothy and rich! I guess I won't worry about its' grade. It's low in calories, fat, everything.

Saucony makes GREAT shoes for cross-training. Wicked- great arch and ankle support, plus heel cushioning. I had the Hurricanes, I think, or the Grid? It's been a couple of years, so do a search on Saucony and you'll find them. I currently can't afford them, but they are worth the price!! I'm currently wearing Avia and they're good, but I'm saving my pennies so I can buy another pair of Saucony shoes. I work out 5 days a week, and I've gone through 2 pair of cheaper shoes in 6 months. You get what you pay for, and Saucony is quality!

Try Vitamin World's Mega-Multi Vitamin w/Iron for Women. I feel crummy when I DON'T take it. It's got absolutely everything in it...it alleviates many of my PMS symptoms. I swear by these things...much better than drugstore/OAD type brands.

Hey, it's OK!! Some days just go to pot! Don't sweat it! With all that sugar, though, you're going to be starving at dinner...aim for the protein! It'll settle your blood sugar down, and help you reclaim your day. But don't lose sleep over it. You may have a sugar hangover tomorrow though, so that'll be your punishment! Remember, tomorrow is a new day!

Hi all! I'm new here, frustrated with my own plataeu. As I talked to many people about what I could do, one thing kept coming up that I wanted to mention. For all of our hard work, our bodies are constantly adjusting. And it'll just chill at a certain point for a while as it adjusts to the new weight, the new muscle, the new activity, whatever. So while you'll initially lose w/a new activity, the body adjusts. It doesn't mean you're doing something wrong, or that it's never going to work. Keep loving your body and keep taking care of it! But serious, long-term weight loss takes a long time, and we all have lots of plateaus. Don't beat yourself up! Keep exercising, keep eating well, keep changing it up. That's the healthy lifestyle, and these are life long habits we're acquiring. Know you're treating your body well, and just keep at it!

OK, buck up session over!
