Maintaining Panic! What the heck is my body doing? Mar 28 2008

Have you tried beans? There are so many different kinds and they may actually be better for you than most meats. I agree with misty that it is good that you have your period back. If you are gaining weight it is probably muscle mass. What you wrote down is a hefty workout. Don't freak out with the numbers on the scale. As long as you feel good is all that matters. Every time I trained for something I gained weight with muscle mass so no worries.

I have no idea how many calories you will burn but it is a pretty good workout especially if you can go for 10 minutes. I have to warn you to ease up to it though because if you start in on it vigorously it will bruise your hips. It happened to my mother and me. Have a happy workout.

Sorry I wasn't very helpful with your main question though. Try looking up a site that promotes it. Maybe they will give you an estimated amount.

Thank you for all the great suggestions. I am not sure yet what I am going to bring.  I have to have snacks though because I eat something small everything 3 hours :p I am thinking of quaker rice quakes and maybe a protein bar to keep me full :)

I had short hair once in my life. My mom cut it in fourth grade therefore I never had someone who didn't have a degree touch my hair from that point on.  It is straight as a pin and I have to work with it for body.  Since I love my long hair and don't have drastic cuts, I color my hair for change.  I was a blonde and now a brunette.  My real hair color isn't awful but I don't think it compliments because its an ashy tone. (yuck) I am done with being blonde because my roots got too dark (use to be a dirty blonde when I was little). Now I just experiment with dark tones plus I love having an excuse to go to my salon. I absolutely love it there! :) I might add the bible says a woman's hair is her crown therefore we should take good care of it :)

Thank you for all your input. I keep an open mind about everyone but I agree when you hang out with certain people they put you in situations you wouldn't be in otherwise.

My father also had a quote, "When you lie down with dogs, you wake up with fleas."

I know you can't pick your family. I have sometimes noticed certain traits appear from time to time just by observing. Sorry but the classes I take makes me want to analyze everything I come upon.

I actually brought some from my boss this year because his little girl was selling. I noticed somthing different though. They have these cinnamin swirl cookies. They come in 100 calorie packs. I got two just to be curious and I wanted to help contribute. I hope they are good :)

If you eat a whole one. Half a grapefruit is only around 55 calories and that seems to be enough.  That is what they serve in most breakfast situations.  I also heard it gets your metabolism working. I may be wrong though.

I eat a healthy range of food everyday so I don't take a serious vitamin.  I consider the only "candy" I take is actually a kid's vitamin.  Scooby Doo One-A-Day Gummies. I love them :) Its my little treat for the day plus getting a few extra vitamins and minerals.  Although, if I feel like I am catching or coming down with a cold I will take a Vitamin C tablet.  Worked so far.
Foods Calling all Catholics Feb 10 2008

I don't skip meals because it is unhealthy.  Also, like mollymouser says if you feel not right about it, talk to your priest. I am sure he will understand. I do, of course, abstain from eating meat on fridays.  This also includes dairy, which many Catholics didn't know. The tuesday before (Shrove Day, also Fat Tuesday) Ash Wednesday everyone eats pancakes because they contain things like eggs, butter, and milk. Why? Because it is all dairy and soon to be off limits.  If you just stick to the no meat Fridays I think you'll be good to go.

Sometimes I put a piece of whole grain bread in the toaster. Spread a tablespoon of peanut butter and then about 1/4 cup of nonfat cottage cheese. Sprinkle with some sliced almonds or pumpkin seeds.  It fills me right up.  I eat breakfast at 5:30 everyday and sometimes I get hungry and have a snack around 9 but with this I could last til 11:30.

Haha sounds so familiar. My friend's cat pee'd on all her clothes in her room.  She ended up getting a lock to open from the outside so the cat couldn't get in. She wasn't as close to her cat as I think you are to yours.  I agree with the reinforcement that its not good behavior will be the best bet with your kitty

hey you two-cool it. This is suppose to be a pleasant site. I don't think she said you did look like you put on 10 lbs. I think what zulenberry was trying to get at was that if you eat just bad foods you would look like you just put on 10 lbs with no muscle structure instead of working your way up to a healthy weight.

I have never heard of sugar in salsa. Although, my family we always make our own because it is a part of our heritage. Since you are at college I would say hit a local grocery store and compare labels. I am sure that not all salsa has high sodium or added sugar (that still complexes me).  As for making the salsa... It really is convenient because you can make a huge batch and it lasts for long time. Let us say you go home one weekend, make a huge batch and take it back with you.  It would last for months.

I tried looking it up and couldn't find anything either. I think the best bet would find an item similar to it so you can get an estimate. You could also look up the individual ingredients and add them together. I would just find a similar item and then add the fries.

I just had a salad for a snack

I had about 1/3 cup roasted turkey meat shredded (we cooked a whole turkey ahead of time
1/8 cup of shredded cheese (kraft)

I warmed the turkey and cheese together in the microwave first so it'd be gooey :)

1 medium celery stalk chopped
1 medium carrot chopped
1 slice of tomato, peppered and chopped into smaller pieces
spicy mustard
filled the rest of my bowl with lettuce, tossed

presto chango a yummy snack and only 160 calories

Oh yea, I would also say I don't use dressing at all. If it has meat or cheese in it, plenty of flavor for me.

make healthier options yet still sweet

chocolate drizzled strawberries (doesn't have to be completely covered)

air popped popcorn
put a couple tablespoons in a brown paper bag
microwave
spray with a little bit of pam
put some seasonings like paprika or cracked pepper corn

candied orange peels

make their own parfait
buy the lowfat pudding
mix with skim milk
set out fresh berries and fruits
give everyone a spoon and a clear cup (about 6 oz)
let the creativity begin

or a veggie platter is always a safe but nix on the dressing

i wouldn't do all of these just try and pick the one that appeals to you

It does taste like heaven... I think once people get past the raw fish part and actually taste, it is really good! But it is all mental with people.  I like some rolls with a kick of spicyness and they all have good texture.  The salmon, I think, is sweet. Also, it is basically all protein if you get certain kinds.
Foods Any ideas on what would be good with or in wheat totillas? Jan 17 2008

I am reading this off of Tumaro's Gourmet Tortillas (they are really good!)

Vegetarian Burrito/Wrap - warm vegetarian refried beans, shredded jalapeno jack cheese, sprouts, or lettuce, add tomatoes, and sliced black olives. Garnish with sour cream, salsa, add avocado

Quesadillas - low fat cheese, diced vegetables, add salsa, warm in oven or skillet until cheese melts

Tacos - fold in half, fill with ground beef, turkey or meat substitute. Top off with lettuce, tomatoes, low fat cheddar cheese and salsa.

Pizza - low fat jack cheese, add diced green chilies, roasted peppers, sliced olives, ad tomato sauce. Bake in oven til crisp

Sandwich Roll Ups - any combination of lunch meat, meat alternative, turkey, salmon, rice or tofu. Top with letuuce, cheese, tomatoes, add any of your favorite condiment sauce. Roll up, add a bit of cream cheese at the top to hold or use toothpicks.

Whoa, my name is Lola too. I saw that post and I thought I would say something. I thought I was the only one. Haha. I used to be in high school sports but not anymore.  I can say though that you don't really need to watch what you eat (calories wise, you do need to watch with nutrition) when you are in a high intensity sport but once you've finished with your career.  You better start watching what you eat otherwise you won't realize until you've gained 10 pounds. Happened to me.  Eat "healthful foods" and everything will fall into place.

Egg whites are quick and easy for protein.  Put whatever you want on them.
Young Calorie Counters i was wondering if i could bust in here for help with my 15 year old daughter? Jan 14 2008

Being divorced has absolutely nothin to do with the situation.  I have concluded (from my own experience and of friends) is that the most rebellious kids come from the strict parents.  When I lived with my mother I was heading towards the older senior boys because I was not "allowed to do that".  I moved in with my dad because my mother had /still has a fiance that I have a restraining order against.  There was a major trust issue between us.

Now on the other note, I consider my father my best friend (even though he won't allow me to call him that) I can talk to him about everything and anything. Let your kids feel that they can talk to you about anything. My father let me do whatever I wanted but I always asked permission to let him know.  When I first moved in with him I asked him about parties.  He let me have to the option to go but he also gave me the reasons why he thought it wasn't a good idea plus the consequences that could happen.  At the end, he would say make good decisions and don't disappoint me.

I usually ended up not going and if I did I was back within the next hour because it was really not that much fun. I disappointed him once. I swore to myself that I would never do it again because it made me feel awful that he had given me all this trust and I blew it. My friends weren't really all that bad though, all athletic and bright. My senior year I ended up having 5 A+s in the second semester. (They were advanced classes too) I consider boys a distraction and I cut them off when I feel they want more because they are a obstacle to my success.  Ask your daughter what she has dreams about and who she wants to be in 5-10 years.

Although, this strategy worked for me I feel every family is different and has a different level of success. I hope this works for you and your daughter.
