| Hi everyone! I have to make this quick - I just got back from a mini vacation with my mom... we spent almost a week together in the adirondack mountains! Great bonding time...
It was a wonderful week, but I did NOT count calories at all - and ate a LOT of comfort food!! Oh well, I weighed in at 123 this afternoon. I want this weight to come off & I need to get serious about it!!! I haven't had time to sit down & read what everyone's been up to the past few days, but I'll be in touch more later or tomorrow! Still getting things straight being home :-) Jess |

| Welcom new competitors! Good luck to everyone entering this round! I slacked off this weekend... its my TOM and I feel absolutely, ridiculously boated, I HATE that!! blech... I weighed in this morning at 123. I thought I was getting closer to breaking 120 & was so irriated when I looked at the scale yesterday. No change this morning though. I think I'm going to clean my house today - the dust has built up & kids sticky fingers seem to touch everything! Hopefully focusing on that, instead of dieting will get me in better mood! Have a wonderful day, all! Jess |

| Please sign me up for the 5K! I used to run all the time, both competively and recreationally... but after kids, career, etc., I just kind of stopped. I started again about 6 weeks ago and now am running 3-4 miles 4 times a week. Its slow going, but I'm surprised at how quickly my body is getting the hang of it again! |

| I've heard that women tend to store weight in their midsections when they are stressed... it has something to do with their hormone levels - certain hormones contribute to fat producion. If you feel like you're always stressed & on the go, that could be an issue. I'd recommend taking a few yoga classes or getting a dvd, walking, reading, or whatever gives you that "me time" to relax! I have always enjoyed power yoga - it incorporates great relaxation techniques & focus with strength building exercises. I do that, in addition to a steady aerobic workout schedule. As already stated, you will lose fat every where, but I know I've felt so much better after losing a few pounds "everywhere," and the little tummy I still have is MUCH less annoying!! And I love looking at pictures of "before" and "after" - even though you think you want to lose weight only in a certain area, you'll be amazed at how great you look after you've lost some from arms, cheeks, neck, shoulders.... oh I've also heard (although I havent looked into it too much) that fat production around your middle can have something to do with the glycemic index of your diet - its a big diet buzz phrase lately... search around the forums & I'm sure you'll learn a lot about the types of foods to eat to reduce those "bad carbs" that contribute to fat production! Good luck! |

| Thanks for the protein shake tip Ann, I've never thought of trying one of those. I like a couple of protein bars too.. but they are high in calories. There's an Atkins morning one I like, and I was eating one every morning when school was in & I was working... but now that I'm home for the summer, I'm trying to vary things a bit. I know chicken is high in protein, and relatively low in fat, so last night I grilled a couple of breasts (flavored with Old Bay seasoning) for myself. I ate that, while everyone else had spaghetti... then stored the rest. I just used some to make a sandwich on whole wheat. I'll just have to plan ahead and work in things like that, working around the rest of the family's diet! Last night's run was really hard... I usually run after the sun sets and its a little cooler (my favorite nights are right after a thunderstorm when its damp). But last night I went around 5 pm & and the sun was beating down still... oh it was awful! I felt like I was dragging and definitely got overheated.. it was miserable just trying to get to three miles, and I've been trying to increase my mileage!!! It was discouraging, so I'm definitely waiting until after 8 to go out tonight and see if that was the problem.... Have a great day! |

| Congratulations Laura - I'll reward you as soon as I get your email address! :-) and welcome Nicole... this is a great group to belong to, its a great source of support, suggestions & motivation!! I've been home from my vacation for 3 days now, and back to calorie counting & my regular exercise schedule... I stepped on the scale this morning and it was 121. SO CLOSE to breaking 120!! I think someone mentioned once about keeping their metabolism up by having maintenance days & "letting loose" once in a while. I was so worried about getting off track during vacation... but honestly I think it might have helped! I even FEEL trimmer... that's a first since I've started this. I'm definitely going to work in a couple of free days where I don't count calories and indulge in some foods I love... I'm good with starting again on Monday. 9 pounds to go!! The following Monday (the 30th?) I will be out of town and away from a computer, so I won't be able to post my weigh-in by noon... but will get it in by that evening. I'm still struggling with getting enough protein in my diet. Neither of my kids are big meat eaters (or chicken or fish)... so we eat a lot of pastas, soups, breads. I love eggs & cheese - but they're so high if fat and cholesterol, I don't want to eat too much of those. Anybody have any suggestions for protein? I made a trail mix of various nuts & raisins, but again... high in fat, so I don't want to eat too much. Have a great day all! |

| Good morning... I weighed in this morning at 122. After vacation & everything, I'm happy with the 1 pound loss! You're right Ann, it makes 115 seem well within reach doesn't it? I think I'm newly motivated because I can't wait to see the scale dip below 120!! I'll do backflips on that day! Just had a bowl of oatmeal and cup of tea for breakfast, I'm thinking of having something more, because I definitely notice my energy level is higher and I eat less later on if I pack in more protein calories in the morning! I may walk down to the small grocery store in town and get some Fiber One... :-) I am fine with sending $10 to the winner through paypal. Any ideas when we'll be starting the next round? As I said, I'm pumped and ready to lose these next 10 pounds! Have a great day everyone! |

| hi everyone! I just got back from vacation... no computer, cell coverage, phone, cable... we were really in a remote area! I completely stopped counting calories, ate a LOT of junk food (I LOVE Doritoes!!) and only went on two 4 mile runs for the week (but we were active - kayaking, fishing, swimming). I thought I would feel terrible when I got home, but I actually feel really great. It was just wonderful to get out of town & relax with my family. I was worried that I'd totally blow my diet and fall right back into my old habits... but I'm back online here & making a grocery list for the week, planning my exercise schedule. I think it will all be ok. There is definitely something to allowing yourself to slip up a little bit, and not be too militant and hard on ourselves when we get out of our calorie counting mindset. So emotionally, I'm feeling great, but with last week's weight gain, and the vacation indulgences, I'm not sure how well I'll do with tomorrow's final weigh-in!! I haven't even stepped on the scale yet, I think I'll wait until tomorrow morning (morning weigh-ins, right after a bathroom visit, are always the lightest for me!) It was fun reading everyone's posts - good info about fiber, yogurt, searching the nutritional database, running sneakers.... everything! Thanks all! |

| Good morning all - I weighed in at 123 this morning. Still up a pound from last week, but that's the way it goes. I looked at jenmcc's chart of weight fluctuations & I guess my ups and downs make sense... as long as the general trend is weight loss then all is good. Being so frustrated, I went for a long run last night... almost an hour at a steady jog. It felt really good & I slept like a baby! There's a heat wave moving through NY for the next couple of days, so maybe I'll sweat off the pounds! Got to keep up the water intake... Anetta, sodium definitely makes you bloated. I think that's why I was feeling so gross yesterday - and why my gut seemed like I was 4 months pregnant! I chugged water, went for a run, and it seems to be back to normal (which is definitely not a washboard tummy, but at least suck-inable)! I am also definitely not consuming enough fiber, and that tends to make me constipated (hence too much junk in the digestive system!) I live in a pretty rural area, and to make a trip to get fresh fruit & veggies is such a production, I don't do it more than once a week. I think next summer, I'll start my own garden! Well, have a great day everyone! |

| Hey everyone! I took a last minute trip to visit a friend, so I haven't been very conscious of my calorie counting, or checking in with you all this weekend. I stepped on the scale a little while ago & am back up to 124.... I'm SO DISCOURAGED!! I'm feeling like you all - I haven't eaten over 1500/day in four weeks (although most days its between 1200-1300)!! And I exercise 4-5 a week, so most days I burn well over 2000 calories (according to my activity log)... I like numbers too Anetta - they're just not working in my favor!! ugh! And honestly, my clothes aren't even fitting that much better... I still feel like my gut juts out over the top of my shorts & pants, and my thighs... oh I can't even go on! Talk about being self-conscious and hyper-critical! Ann, I confess I've been weighing myself too often as well. It's a bad bad habit that I have to break! Didn't someone say a while ago that they had to hide their scale?? I need an intervention! Laura, I started dieting when my weight got over 130 and I feel the same way as you. Am I letting up because I'm not over that "omg I'm HUGE" weight? I really want to get to my goal of 112 (its an odd number, but for some reason it sticks in my head as one of my former "skinny" weights). phew... I needed to vent, and I NEED to get back on track, not let these past two days drag me down. An increase of 2 pounds isn;t the end of the world is it? I think I'm going to make a grocery list & a menu plan for the coming week. If I'm not organized like that I totally let everything go..... Have a great rest of your Sunday & here's to weighing in light tomorrow! |

| We've talked a lot about our aerobic activity - running, walking, biking - but I was wondering if anyone does anything else? A few years ago I did a lot of yoga (a couple classes a week & I have a few tapes & dvd's at home that I would do in between classes). During that time, I think my body was at its best shape ever. I had the confidence of a grown woman, and felt toned like a teenager! I tried to do one of my yoga tapes the other night, but it was soooooo hard, I think I need to start with a more beginner one. I was hoping to get rid of the few extra pounds I have, and then after I reach my goal then work on toning with yoga & weight training. Just wondering if anyone else incorporates those into their workouts now, and if it might help me & all of us who are a little discouraged so far with our lack of tone. Ann, your ramblings are always entertaining! Yes, I live in upstate NY, near Ithaca (I'm pretty close to Cornell) and its been raining ALL day - what a dreary 4th of July!! Next week we're going farther upstate close to Canada on vacation - on a fishing trip - I really hope the rain doesn't continue!! I think someone once mentioned here about egg beaters being a good source of protein. I had a small meal of scrambled eggs this evening with them & they were great! If anyone else is looking to add protein, these were a great, no-fat way to do it! I'm still trying to get my percentages of fat/carb/protein at a healthy level.... Have a great night everyone & good job getting through another holiday! |

| Happy 4th everyone! Its raining here today, so I've decided to stay in for the day & not go to the parties I had planned to... that's just as well, because this morning I went to brunch at a friend's house & had a delicious breakfast strata... very good, but about 1/2 the calories for the day! I'm taking it easy for the rest of the day, if the rain doesn't clear up, I'll work out on my treadmill later. Anetta, I've been feeling very self-concious lately too. I feel like I've made such progress in so many areas & know the weight will take a long time to come off, and the body changes won't be miraculously instantaneous.... buuuuutt, part of me feels like they should be. And I've been proud of my accomplishments, but I'm not seeing results in the body parts that I want. Its hard to explain, but I've been feeling weird... just hoping to keep up the momentum, and see it through the last 10 pounds (I know Ann, these are the hardest!! and that scares me!) Have a great rest of your holidays! |

| Great job on all the weight losses/body changes everyone! It does feel good when people start to notice... I've lost 7 pounds since I started dieting, and I think its really noticeable on small frames like ours, because people are starting to comment. It feels good! And definitely a good motivator. I do feel full at the end of the day definitely, and notice that my weight changes a lot too... the other day, I woke up & the scale said 121 - wooohooooo. But by the end of the day it was at 125. This morning it was 122, and I'm sure its higher now. I know the differences are due to normal fluctuations, but at the end of the day I definitely feel much "bigger" and obviously weigh more too. I've stopped weighing myself every day, just for that reason.... I just put in the Monday weight I report here, and see the general weight loss trend. My sizes vary, depending on the brand - most I wear 4's and 6's. Occasionally I can get into a "big" pair of 2's - especially Old Navy and Gap, they do definitely run big. I've always liked clothes that fit more snugly than loosely though, because I feel like I'm wearing a sack if the clothes are too baggy. Congratulations to everyone too on sticking this out - one more week, right? I'm up for another round for sure - still got 10 pounds to go to reach my goal weight!!! |

| Good morning everyone! I'm so glad everyone is doing so well! My weight loss was good this week - 2 pounds at 122. (I don't have a digital scale, so I can't get an accurate tenth measurement, sorry). I haven't been feeling well the last couple of days - just sleeping, & watching movies. I haven't had much more energy for anything but that - and absolutely no appetite! I think I was just over-exhausted... I haven't slowed down in the last few weeks at all, and it finally caught up. I'm still feeling a little weak, but hope to get back on my normal eating schedule today - I was starving this morning, but choking down a whole-grain bagel and green tea for breakfast was tough. Now that i'm up & about again, I will be online throughout the day - I didn't count calories for Friday through yesterday (although I'd honestly be surprised if they went over 500 or 600 - I couldn't eat!!), and I need to keep track again. Today I'm aiming for 1200-1300, I need my energy back! Have a great day everyone... and again, congratulations to all you who lost/didn't gain!! Jess |

| Although I've been doing well with drinking water, I had a bad eating day yesterday too... although everthing was "healthy" - no junk food - I just seemed to eat a LOT. Almost 1900 calories, which is far more than I've been eating lately. It just added up at the end of the day, and I was so discouraged, I just went to bed. But today is a NEW DAY and I hope to keep it to 1300 today - started off with a Luna Bar, lowfat cheese stick, and apple (and water!!!). I'm still feeling full, I think the water definitely helps. Have a great day everyone, I'm off to the mall to shop! (although I'm not seeing a difference in clothing fit, I really need a new outfit for some parties this weekend!) |

| phew... I just made it through 96 ounces of water for the day. Sherry, again I have to say the nalgene water bottle was a great idea. It helps to reduce the "omg I have another thing to keep track of" factor. Ann, it makes total sense that our bodies adjust to the water. I imagine our bladders stretch, just like our stomachs! I hope all you who are struggling stay strong. I know I had a tough weekend of indulgence, and it was soooo hard to get back on track. Being part of this group definitely helped me though. And once I did it, I feel better. I thought I blew my whole workout schedule, but tonight went for a run & had the fastest, longest run since I've started this whole thing! I know that keeping busy helps me not think about being hungry, and gradually I hope to let go of my obsession with food. We just need to look at ourselves realistically and tell us we are worth the effort to be healthier! Sleep well everyone, and have a great night & good morning tomorrow! |

| Great water advice Sherry! I filled up one of the 32 oz. nalgene bottles after breakfast and will drink it before lunch! My only problem with drinking so much (especially between dinner and bed) is that I have to go to the bathroom so much!! lol I haven't been working out that much because of the heat, and I'm painting our bedroom, so that's taking up a lot of my time. I'm also sweating like crazy and my muscles are sore - I wonder if its burning many calories. I don't feel like I'm "working out" as much as if I went for a bike ride or walk or run, but I'm too tired to do those things! Hopefully I'll get it done soon & can get back to my regular schedule because without doing the regular aerobic exercise, I feel like I'm slipping... Have a great day everyone! |

| Good morning! I'm holding steady at 124 this morning... I guess the weekend's indulgence didn't do too much damage! yippee! I'm going to try to keep my daily calories between 1300-1400 this week. I'm seeing a bunch of old friends from high school this weekend, who are coming into town for a wedding. Kind of like a high school reunion, Susannah - I know how it feels to want to look good! I wish I had started earlier to get to my goal weight... but I do think the positive things we've all done so far do a lot to helping our mental beauty! I actually think Sherry (schandler) mentioned the workout DVD. Thanks for the suggestion... our weather is so up & down in upstate NY (this week is supposed to be HOT, while the past few days barely got above 70!); its miserable exercising outside when its too hot. I don't live close enough to a gym for it to be convenient, but I have a treadmill and am always looking for other ideas to stay cool while working out! Ann & Miss K & Flo... good job on the losses! Every little bit gets you closer to your goals! Have a great day |

| I think I've figured out that milestones can be dangerous as well as exciting! Yesterday, after the scale said 124, I decided to celebrate and have steaks for dinner (lean red meat is ok every once in a while, right?), and some sauteed peppers and onions, with long grain rice as a side dish. Then... some homemade strawberry shortcake (I didn't sugar my berries though!). It felt like a feast after all the dieting... my calories ended up close to 1800, but more imporantly I felt so unbelievably bloated!! This morning too. I know I have to be careful about those days when I feel like splurging - even though I was careful to choose lean meat and good side dishes, it seems like those would be foods to eat when I've reached my goal weight and am maintaining. I have to say, this is one of the hardest things I've ever done! You are all inspirations, thanks so much for the encouragement and help! Susannah, keep up all the good work your'e doing - I like Laura's idea about reading other forums about plateaus... I've been looking around for the "falling off the wagon" ones! I'm trying to figure out the new camera I got... as soon as I do, I will post a "before" picture in my profile - I need some motivation to get to an "after"! Here's to weighing in light tomorrow! |

I'm impressed with your running too, Ann! That's fantastic. Are you training for a whole or half marathon? I have some friends entering in several 5ks this summer, and hope that I'm in shape enough to do that by the end of the summer! Sherry - great will power at the party! They are definitely the hardest. Last night I went to an end-of-the-school-year party & definitely did NOT do as well. I ate pizza (the really gooey, greasy, thick crust kind), and drank three vodka & crysal lights. Other than having a headache (!) this morning, I was worried about my calorie count. But after putting everything in it was just about 1700... still under what I burned, but I'm certainly going a little easier today. Reading your posts has motivated me to exercise this evening, even if its only for a slow steady walk. On a good note, I had a woooohoooo moment yesterday like you Flo. My scale dipped below 125!!!!! I haven't seen these numbers in a loooooong time! High five! I hope everyone's weekend are going great! - jess |

| Its been an exhausting week so far... its exam time & I've been very very busy - I've hardly had time to get my food log done during the day! I had pizza today for lunch, as we starting grading over 400 biology exams (my eyes are blurry.....), because it was quick & easy. My last day of work is Friday; I'm so excited to be done for the summer and able to focus on this weight loss thing! I have a paypay account too, and am fine with $10, just let me know when and where to send it! Thank you all for the protein suggestions (I've never tried egg beaters, but am definitely looking forward to it) - for the last two days I've been pretty good about keeping my protein % higher than my fat %. I also cut back on daily calories - I was consuming about 1600 a day because I've increased my activity and felt I needed the energy, but decided I might see some better results sooner if I only consume 1300 :-) I hope its not too drastic for me though - I love food & hate the feeling of being hungry! Keep up the good work, all of you. I know we'll all have our "bad days" but I think the key is definitely letting them go & starting fresh on the next one! I'll be more active in the group in a couple of days..... :D |

| Hi all! I weighed in this morning at 126. I've lost 2 lbs. so far, so I'm encouraged!
I'm hoping for some suggestions.... I read someone's post (sorry I can't remember who) who divided up their calories as 20% fat, 30% protein and 50% carb. As much as I've tried, every day the fat beats out the proteins. What kinds of foods can I eat that are higher in protein, but without the fat? My calories are hovering right around 1600, which is where I want to be, but I just can't seem to eat enough protein (without fat calories too!) Any ideas? I took the day off from exercise yesterday, but after work will do a "bi-athalon" workout - 2 mile run & 15 mile bike ride. I like to change things up, or I get bored easily! I hope everyone is doing well today! :-) |

We're cooking chicken parmigiana for dinner tonight... it seems like an indulgence, but I found a great recipe on this site! Also, I'll limit my portion and eat more of the leafy green salad! |

| Hi! This is my first post on this website; I've only been calorie counting for 3 days, but this looks like a perfect way to connect with others like me! I am 33, a mother of 2 and a teacher. This is my last week of school & I'm looking forward to spending the following 10 weeks earnestly establishing a healthier lifestyle! I want this to be a long term lifestyle change, so I'm taking it slow. I hope to complete my weight loss goal (15 lbs) by October. And then I want to keep it off! I've just starting an exercise program. I used to be quite athletic - in high school & college - but after having two children, a challenging job (its stressful teaching teenagers!!), and never-ending housework, my activity level dropped significantly & the consumption of horribly unhealthy "quick" foods went up! So I am alternating long low & short higher intensity workouts to build up my endurance, reducing my calorie intake, and learning to prepare more of my foods from ingredients I choose (instead of from a box!!). Height: 5'3" Current weight: 127-130 lbs. Goal weight: 112-115 lbs. Daily calories: approx. 1600 It's nice to meet all of you... as I said, I've never posted (here or on any online forum!), so this is all new to me.
