i say stick with it!

i had my fair share of bad high school coaches and my fair share of really good ones.  the truth of the matter is that once you are out of school, it's hard to find a chance to play and compet in team sports on the same level as you do in high school and college.

forget about your coach, not the sport!  enjoy the game and your teammates!

It's crazy how hypocritical our society has become. I wonder if our generation or the few coming up will ever have a woodstock or the like. I say, take the necessary precautions, arm yourself by knowing your rights, and party on.

um, have you heard of burning man?

please, there's tons of counter-culture out there.  sure, it's not mainstream and neither was woodstock.  we pretty much destroyed all that was beautiful about something like woodstock when we allowed ourselves to believe that it was part of mainstream society.

that said, there's also a lot of good that has come from our hyper-cautious culture...safe sex and sober driving being two important things.

i'm sorry.  that sucks.  i live in a city where bikes get stolen on a super regular basis.  when i was a kid, we had our locked bikes stolen off our front porch in the middle of the afternoon and we lived on a super quiet side street.

my friends that ride bikes now all bring them inside their homes/office/etc. as locking them outside simply isn't enough.  i would recommend keeping your bike indoors when you aren't using it.

I live on the top floor of a duplex, so not that easy...but I guess the inconvenience is better than losing my property.

is there somewhere on the ground floor where you can lock it up?

Ummmm *raises hand* can you really consider yourself a "beer lover" if you drink Budweiser?

 haha!

I drink beer pretty much whenever I want.  Usually that is 2-3 times a week for 1-2 beers.  Sometimes, a good happy hour happens or a long night with friends and other times a week or two goes by before I have one

I agree.

TV and internet are great - but there are more ways to entertain yourself while working out.

Grab your ipod, put some super peppy music on it, and go for a long walk.  Once you've gt the walking down, maybe a job.

Also, just how do you work out while on the internet?

i agree about eating more carbs during the day.  plan them out before your crave them, so that you are less likely to binge on them.

As for a late night sweettooth, i find tea to be my best friend.

haha.  that's just awesome.

regardless, the fact that we thought that it could be a plausible contemporary story says a lot too...

i'm an apple!  my bone structure is tiny (i even wear boys sneakers).  but unfortunately, my belly is not.

i've had the best luck with weight loss in the "problem areas" (haha, that always sounds funny) when i've been treadmilling it at 3.5 or 4 mph with the incline jacked up to 10.  changing it up is good though, and i've been meaning to get on the bike more often, but that just really bores me to death.

yep, i definitely say go back to school.

even with school debt, it's worth it to be doing something that are passionate about (at least that's what i'm trying to tell myself as i accrue lots of debt for an MFA, which will never get me any sort of job!).

in general, i skip all frozen food.  the one exception to that rule is frozen pizza, which i usually have several times a week.  i aim for thin crust, multigrain pies with lots of veggies on them, and usually only have 1/2 a pie along with a big salad.

amy's has a great low sodium spinach pizza, which i think is about 400 calories.  other favorites include the kashi pizzas.

i usually have a luna bar as part of my morning snack.  it holds me over, so i'm not as likely to eat a bigger lunch (read: hey, let's get a cookie with our salad).  plus, as a vegetarian, it helps boost up that protein content a bit.

hmm, i wonder if this applies to all (mu)shrooms.  i'm joking.

aside from fortified milk, i think some fishes are high in vitamin d as well (salmon and tuna come to mind)...for better or for worse, i just gave up fish and i'm not a mushroom fan.  so i guess i'll just have to play in the sun a lot!

ah, it totally depends on where you live.  my little cousin's nursery school teacher has ink all over her arms, and all the kids and parents can't say enough great things about her.  but that's in seattle, and people seem to be more sane out west.

The Lounge JOBS in TRAVEL - any advice?? Feb 27 2009
19:50 (UTC)

agreed with pg.

both of my parents and many of my friends travel significantly for work, and they will all tell you how much it sucks.  sure, you may be somewhere that you have never been before, but you often have little to no time to explore and enjoy your location.

in the 1970s, my parents had friends that were self-employed.  they would work like dogs for 6 months of the year, often putting in a 80+ hour work week.  after finishing up all the client projects, they would take off and enjoy the next 6 months away from it all at a different location every year. there's something to be said for that strategy as well.
