i may be the minority here, but yuck. Funny, i had a coupon for 2 for 1 blizzard and got the peanut butter cup & brownie batter .....my bro wisely picked the peanut butter cup. After a few bitefuls, i started only eating the ice cream part...and gagged down the browie bits that i didnt see...then once i couldnt stand it anymore, i spat them back in the cup. Finally after eating half, i threw it out. ...it was the nasiest processed brownie chunks i have ever had. :( i will not splurge on anything that is brownie named or batter named again, unless its ben and jerry's cheese cake brownie :( |

another plus of no ring, or a cheaper ring is if you ever lose it, you wont feel bad about the money issue (sentimental is a different story) I have or had 2 rings from bf, one was $200, and the other was $500. I had lost a bit of weight and the $500 ring somehow slipped off when we were walking thru a park. Needless to say I was very choked because I only had the ring for 6 months. Plus the price of the ring made me feel so guilty because it was such a huge present |

i thnk it depends on ur current fitness level. I run 3-4 times a week, for about an hour most days, and I used to do the weight machines at the gym. Now im doing hip hop abs instead of the gym, and so far, it sucks. I can see it being a good workout if you are just starting out. |

| Fitness | Any women starting p90x? | Jun 23 2009 08:03 (UTC) |

Is p90x still effective if I dont do it everyday? What I want is to decrease my body fat % and gain more strength. I run about 3 times a week, 45 mins minimum each session. I normally alternate this with working out at the gym using weight machines, but my gym member ship expired a month ago. Now I do "hip hop abs" videos with 3-5lbs instead. Hip hop abs are OK, but I feel they do nothing for me. So I want to try p90x routines instead. I am already slim so this is not for weight loss, but rather to work out my current muscles. I usually give myself 1-2 days rest each week. Thanks! |

i hate to say it, but maybe its genetics? Im 98lbs, 5' 1.5", and have no fat anywhere except my belly and boobs. I run + work out, and what im finding now, is boobs are shrinking at an incredible rate (lost 2-3 inches there since last year, but no where else), but stomach is still the same. For me anyways, im sure i would have to have really NO breasts before my body will use up my belly fat.

Thanks for all the advice and encouragement! :D So I am guessing then my tempo runs should be my 10k pace, and my long slow runs are much slower? Whereas the interval runs are faster than my 10k pace, and fartleks are basically even faster kinds of interval training? (sorry I run randomly on the streets, and dont have any crazy gps watch/heart monitor, so everything is just guess work) i checked out parts of the course, and yikes, its lots of hills. After a hill session, my knees are sore for a day or two, is there a way i can alleviate this? (I should mention, I've been also weight training too for a year, so my legs are quite strong) Thanks again!! |

| The Lounge | Feel like my college career is over... | Apr 02 2009 06:52 (UTC) |

does your college kick you out immediately? At the university I went to, there is this thing called academic probation. Basically you cannot go under the min. gpa for 3 semesters in a row or else you get kicked out. I think the min. gpa they set was 2.0. Still that gives you 2 more semesters to bring up the gpa. Plus, we were allowed to retake up to 4 (? cant remember the exact number) classes. I asked the academic advisor once, and she said that in all the years she's worked there (10+), shes worked with many students helping them get off the probation, and that she only had a handful of students actually get kicked out. The college wants your money, so I think they'll try their best to help you stay there. Talk to your academic advisor regarding the situation. |

wow, you guys are quite generous tippers....
i worked for almost 2 years as a part time server during university, and my tips on average was 10% of what i sold, and no that's not because I have bad service. In fact quite often my customers would tell my manager how great i was, or write down on the bill... but it's just not a lot of people tip. Even then, i made on average 20$/hour. Considering that now, at my first real career job, i make 22$/hour, you get paid a lot being a server. So, when i have bad service, i dont feel bad about not tipping. In my opinion, being a server is NOT that hard of a job, heck my mom works as a vegetable farm labourer for 8$/hour. That is backbreaking work compared to what I did. When i worked, I did not expect any tips at all. I was hired to serve people.. that is my job, and so any tip was bonus, so I hate it when people expect me to tip them automatically. |

agree, sizing is arbitary. I recently bought size XS, S, M and L tops at the SAME STORE. Yah, I thought it was a little crazy but I went shopping with a bud of mine who double checks my clothes to make sure they fit and she was like, wow they all fit you. Granted they were all different tops, but still that is some wacked sizing. So yah, don't get hung up on the size. It's how they fit that matters, and well fitted clothes makes anyone look gorgeous! |

Having a big career isnt that important to me. I was kinda like you initially.. but now I realize, its more important to have a stable job. And yah, people always say do what you love.. but honestly :-S I dont love my job.. and i dont hate it either. In a perfect world, I would be a chef but unless i am lucky or extremely talented I dont see it as something that can substain the living standards I want. I just graduated a year ago with degree in computer science, and I did it as joint major with molecular biology and biochemistry. I was aiming to work in bioinformatics, and I have done co-ops (practicum) in that field, but jobs that field of work is limiting, which is why I am currently working as a programmer instead. I agree with envygeeks... CS is a foundation for many jobs. What I do does not require me to update myself every 6 months, perhaps because I am still a junior, but even so, if i were to stick to my current job at what I am getting, I am still making a decent living and my work is stable, although I do have to admit, not as stable as my bf's job in the public sector. |

| The Lounge | Hair Straightening Options - Looking for opinions | Nov 01 2008 22:09 (UTC) |

Hi, I have the same problem as you. I am chinese with unforunately strong thick wavy hair. If money is not an issue, go for yuko and maintain with your daily routine. I had the Liscio done, which i believe is almost the same as yuko (please correct if I am wrong). It took about 4-5 hours, and costed me a pretty penny. However.... it did not make my hair pin straight and it did not last 9-12 months. I chalk it up to my hair being unusually resilient. So, given the cost factor, I didnt do it again. Plus, the 4-5 hours is torture because I cant sit for that long with a magazine. What I did instead is buy the sedu straightening iron (and like the other poster, from folica.com) It is worth every penny. I use the highest temperature and I still have to go slowly and straighten a small quantity at a time. With my thick hair.. it is a huge hassle, so now I just learn to love my curls/waves, only do my bangs, and use anti-fizz products. For special events, I will do my whole head. HOwever dont get me wrong.. doing my whole head takes about 20 minutes, but I rather not be spending that much time on my hair. |

| Do you eat alone? I find that when I eat alone, I can scarf down food reallllly fast as well. However when I eat with someone else, I slow down my eating a lot and I do eat less because we are talking during then. So maybe just talk to your sibling on your left side or right or directly across from you while you eat.
Or maybe after polishing off one item, take a few minutes breather before attacking something else. For example, you can eat the chicken breast, and then stop for a minute or two to talk or pay attention to what ppl are saying at the table, or walk around and then eat the broccoli and repeat the process. |

| This is what i do to drumsticks (juiciest part of chicken in my opinion)
1) put cuts in the thickets parts -- u can skip, its just for the marinade to work better 2) add marinade. Sometimes I use bbq sauce. Other times I use rosemary, garlic, lemon juice, salt sugar, pepper. Sometimes I use greek salad dressing. Etc. Just find stuff u like. 3) let it marinade overnight and then for dinner the next day, pop in the oven at 350 C for about 1/2 hour, til cooked. If you do this to chicken breasts, make sure u leave the skin on... otherwise it gets dried out in my opinion. Then once it cools, you can incorprate it in wraps, salads, etc. |

| Weight Loss | what do you do when you get a craving? | Jul 08 2008 05:43 (UTC) |

| I give in.
Or ignore it. depends on the if its practically. IE, no chips in the house, its 9:30, so normal grocery stores are closing, so then I just ignore it because i dont want to to drive too far to find a place that's open, and i dont' have a habit of buying food from gas stations. If i feel it again the next day, then ill go for it. If it's practically, i give in because I find that if i go for other alternatives, then i usually end up eating more food and am not satisified. |

| Does your fiance eat the same food as you? What I would suggest is subbing your dinners with healthier options like other posters suggested, and then get your fiance to get something like fries and burgers and then just share. That is how I eat out with my boyfriend. Only one of us orders something with fries etc, and we just split. There's more variety, and plus, with sides like fries, they always tend to give you much more than you can finish. |

| Fitness | what is wrong with my workout routine? | May 19 2008 04:37 (UTC) |
|
| Hmm.. I'm not too sure what those machines are called. the circuit is 1/2 hour long, where for 45secs you work on a machine, then you are given 15 secs to go to next one. The machines vary and every 3-4 machine, you do on the spot jogging or some other type of cardio to keep ur heart beat up. Some of those machines are not by weight but by resistance(?). For me, the number of reps vary depending on the machine. For the leg lift one, I normally put on a higher weight and get in about 15 reps in 45 secs. For the resistance machine that you push backwards with you leg, I get about 25 reps in 45 seconds. (the people tell for those resistance machines, the faster you do them, the harder it is.. which is why i get more reps in). So generally, for weighted machines that i do about 15-20 reps and for nonweighted i do 25 or so. I do the circuit for 1/2 hour, then stretch for 10mins. Then I do the weighted machines that are not in the circuit. These machines are ones where you sit down and push inwards with you thighs, or outwards, or you pull down with your arms, or you pullup with your arms. or you sit and turn your side, or you mock row, or you have a weight onyour chest and push up wards. (sorry I'll try to take note of the name of the machines next time). I do about 15 reps, then wait 10 secs and do another 15 reps. AFter that i stretch abit again, and then either do rowing or running for 10 mins. The weight i use feel like they give me a good workout. Im usually straining a bit to get the last reps in for each set. |

| Weight Loss | if you're asian Asian.....is what I eat too much?? (Please, help me answering this..anyone can answer) | May 19 2008 04:20 (UTC) |

| hey im chinese, and 5"1 as well. When i was in highschool/early university (currently 23 years old) I ate around 2000 calories a day (give or take). That is with no exercise (outside of the usual catching bus/walking to school). my weight averaged and maintained about 112 or so. Then last year, i started running 3-4 times a week for roughly 40min sessions, and eatting about 1300-1400 calories. That dropped me to under 100lbs. This wasnt really the healthiest way to lose weight.... so now i eat back at 2000 calories and workout/run 3-4 times a week, and I am maintaining at a weight close to 100lbs. this allows me to eat chips, french fries etc. when I feel like it. Becuase I had gotten used to eating only 1400, how I manage to eat a lot more is to eat more freqently, and eat the non low fat versions of food. I eat literaly every 1-2 hours now. Instead of forcing yourself to eat all that in one sitting, carry some food with you and eat when you change classes. Carry items that can be eaten fast like mixed nuts, cut up fruit, granola bars. Or, add a bit more food to eat each meal eg 1/3 cup cheerios instead, so you get used to the amount slowly. So yah... in my opinion, you are not eating a lot. |

| Congrats on the excellent marks! :D you totally deserved the goodies! well, its last semester grades for me (whew finally done after 5 long years of uni), and I got my first A+ in one of my class, nearly cried when i saw that! highest mark in the class, i even beat the few graduate students there (3 of my 4 courses were grad/undergrad mixed), one of whom was my TA for a third year class i had! The other courses went smoothly as well (A, B+, and one unknown mark), soooo i expect my fina GPA to be 3.2X range out of 4.33) I dont really have any celebration plans either -- lol i treat myself quite often as it is so ;-) |
