| Weight Loss | Why a minimum? | Feb 06 2008 13:44 (UTC) |

| i have a similar question. i have been eating 1200 calories everyday for the past week and a half. i lost a lot of weight the first week from this. now i am half way into my second week of doing this and the scale says i have gained .8 so far this week. it doesn't make sense. i'm making sure to eat at least the minimum, why the heck would the scale have me gaining?!?! It's frustrating. As much as i really would like to eat less then the 1200 i know that in the long run it could make me really gain weight, so i'm afraid of that happening as well. plus i'm afraid of losing the type of body make-up that i want, like muscle tissue, and etc. I guess for me i will just stick with the no less then 1200 calories, but yes, does anyone know why the heck the scale has put .8 pounds back on me and do you think by the end of the week it will go down and stay down if i keep up with my 1200? FYI (my personal stats are not up to date.) I actually weigh more than it says on my stats. i had lost all my weight and got down to a weight i liked. then i put the birth control patch on, gained 20 pounds literally in one month...talk about depressing! so i'm on my way back down to where i was...took the dang patch off. OK i've really rambled now :) |

| Hello everyone. It looks like from the posts that everyone seems to be doing well with both exercise and eating (for the most part). We all have our temptations along the way ;)
I weighed in at 118 this morning. I have found that I am quite happy if the scale says anything under 120...of course if it says 115 I will be very happy. I'm just kind of taking it slow to get there though. I went to the gym early this morning (I joined the YMCA here). I'm very happy I joined! I'm back into my running and lifting weights and feeling pretty well recovered finally! It took a while to feel "whole" after that sickness. Laura, sounds like fun buying jeans, I love feeling good in my jeans! eulogy, sounds exciting about the dress! you can stick with your plan!! always nice to hear from other people that you're looking good! naija, good job on losing the pound still! I struggle too with the weekends. I just have to really mentally prepare myself and say. OK, it's Friday night (or Saturday or Sunday) and I'm NOT going to binge or eat badly today! It's mind over matter and I know you do it if I can!! I always find it a bit funny when family/friends seem concerned about the weightloss. It's funny because it's actually so much more of a healthy lifestyle than anything that I used to do! Just stick with it and avoid the topic. Like Laura I've found that's helpful to do with the people that seem concerned. wantobehot, have fun in San Diego! I'm really missing Chick-fil-a and wish they had Rubios here in Southern Oregon! At least they have Applebee's here, I LOVE their menu options, simply because they're so low in calorie and I happen to think they taste good. Madhu, I completely agree, it truly is a life changing experience to do what we're all doing! This is the first time EVER in my life where I have REALLY felt that this is a new way of life for me. I really think a LOT more about how it's a change for my health, not as much for my looks. I think with that being the driving force it makes it more motivating for me (wanting to be healthy). I just love how I feel in every aspect from the healthy foods! You're right, no excuses it's so important to treat ourselves well! Ashley, YAY on breaking the 120 mark! What a great feeling!!! Keep up the great work! I hope everyone has a great day! Remember it's Monday, which I like to look at as a fresh start!! Drink your water and eat healthy!! You will feel invigorated if you stick with it!! You guys are all great! I love reading your posts and etc!! Ann |

| Hi everyone!! I won't attempt right now to reply to everyone's latest threads. I will probably just start off from here since there's a lot of reading to do.
My sister and I ran our marathon! Last Saturday. We both came within a couple of minutes of eachother. 4:12 for me and 4:14 for wantobehot. It was a great race. I have to say it feels really good to be back on here! This computer is quite slow, so hopefully I will be getting my laptop up and running in a few days. I'm still out of town and will be for another month. After the marathon my little family all got some virus, it was brutal! I'm so glad it's overwith. My stomach is still trying to get back to normal. my weight wasn't too affected by it. Anyway, I will come on here later as my son keeps screaming and crying... drink your water and let's be healthy, woo hoo! Ann |

| just wanted to get the thread going for today :) hang in there for the weekend everyone!
Ashley, good job with your water intake, I think it's good to just take at a pace that works for you, if it's something that you really want to work on. There's not point in plunging in only to really hate doing it...the gradual build up really is smart and everyone has their own way that works best for them. isn't that funny that how our stomach feels really dictates how we feel overall about our bodies? I couldn't have worded it better than how you did, but I agree :) Oh protein, i'm not a vegetarian, but I tend to not eat meat very much. I drink 100% whey protein every morning, mixed with yogurt and milk, i love it! 28 grams of protein in one scoop. i also eat a protein bar. i like the brand Pure Protein, I eat the chocolate one's, 170 cal and 20 grams of protein, so just a couple of ideas for more protein intake. did my 12 miles this morning, worked hard. glad I'm finished. gonna take the kiddo's to the park soon. I'm working extra hard today at staying focused on my eating! Tomorrow will be another extra focused effort. sat. and sun. are my most tempting days. I'm planning to weigh in on Monday, but just as a weigh in, no challenge involved. have a good one! stay strong! Ann |

| good ideas for the water transition Laura! yikes, my stomach is sooo big right now, lol! I had a busy day of running all over the place and literally didn't have a chance to stop and eat...so I just ate a potato and some lentil soup and feel like my stomach is ballooning from eating that after a long period of no food. I've only had 1041 calories today, so I can eat a few more! I'm just waiting for my stomach to simmer down...hopefully it won't be too late in the evening before it does :) have a good weekend! Like Laura said last week, the weekends are always the times when we seem the most tempted. Stay strong everyone! I'm going to try especially hard to be better this weekend, I know it is my weakest time, but not this weekend! see you all on Monday! ...anyone interested in having any type of challenge on here? Water drinking challenge, or exercising challenge? any other ideas? Ann |

| Nice job Sherry, down a pound and a good time in San Fran!
Madhu: 1)calories: 1300-1600 2)I run on average 30-40 miles per week (training for marathon). Lift weights about 3 x's/week 3)water: at least 100 oz's per day! ( I find water is KEY in losing weight!!!!) I always say, I don't like water, but I LOVE what it does for me, so I drink it up!!! Love fiber, try to eat at least 35 grams a day. Protein I love, try to eat at the very least 40 grams per day. Laura, I'm glad to hear about your maintenance, it gives me hope that when I get to where I want to be I can maintain my weight while eating a little bit more. Keep up your good work! I used to not like gyms, but I have grown to LOVE them lately, I guess you get used to what works best for each situation. I'm having a pretty good day today! I've eaten really well. I'm just hoping the scale shows my work this week...always nervous about working hard and not seeing results :) we'll check you all later, have a good weekend!!! Ann |

Jess, nice job on your loss! glad the 3% made you feel better, you're done really well, keep it up! blackcrane, that's good that you are happy with where you are, that's always a good feeling. enjoy your bicycle training! today so far is going well for me. I'm feeling a bit better, I was feeling extremely bloated for the past couple days...not really too sure why, I think though drinking more water is helping. wantobehot, can you believe we will be running the marathon in only 1.5 weeks?! I'm excited! If I continue to eat really healthy up until then I will be a happy camper! have a good day everyone! Ann |

You really did well with your loss this round! yeah, maybe Sherry is keeping busy there in SF. I'm thinking for me I just want to start weighing in once a week rather than be in a biggest loser competition. If anyone else would like to continue doing the biggest loser competitions please feel free to take charge of that and continue to do them. I will continue to weigh myself in on this thread every Monday. Keep it up everyone! It's ME again! Just wanted to get the new day started on our thread. While I'm at it, I'll just write that I just ran 22 miles...it was quite the challenge, but I did finish. Glad it's over and it's not even 8 a.m. yet, :) K, have good weekends everyone! Oh yeah, I weighed myself after the run (which I know is not an accurate weight whatsoever), but at any rate I actually saw 115 on the scale...just thought if I actually saw it, it might motivate me to really get to that weight. I guess I will find out on Monday what my true weight is. K, good luck to everyone with counting calories and etc. You can do it!! |

| good for you Laura. You will meet your next goals of toning and getting rid of flab, I'm sure of it! Just keep doing what you've been doing! That veggie pizza sounds quite delightful! Glad your cold is over! I hate it when you can't taste food, it's no fun at all! I went out to lunch at an Italian Restaraunt. Three Brothers. Anyone heard of it or been there? Well I got the chargrilled chicken salad, but I swear that chicken did not taste very healthy. It was like they had put a film of grease on it and I really have to say I didn' t like the flavor or texture of it. I usually always like grilled chicken salad's at places. I was a bit frustrated though because they don't have any nutritional information anywhere for the restaraunt. I even just called the restaraunt to see if I could get it from anywhere and she said they don't have it. Oh well...I just guessed 300 calories for the salad and lite italian dressing. I know chick fil a's is 210 including the italian dressing...and this one didn't taste as healthy, so I just estimated. Anyway, I was determined this whole week to be VERY strict with everything...it kind of bothers me a bit when things like this happen and I can't be exact when I'm trying really hard to be....OK so I just had to "vent" about that a little. I know if I just stick with being really good that salad will probably not be too damaging if I didn't guess the right amount of calories. enough babbling... I need to start some laundry so I can have clothes to run in tomorrow! I'm a little bit nervous about the run...just natural I guess to get nervous, I just want it to go smoothly and to get through it. Well I hope everyone is doing well. I have one more bottle of water to drink today...although I'll probably drink more than that for the whole day. Check you all later, stay strong! |

I'm so happy to have started this group and so glad to have you really wanting to do it and sticking with it and of course everyone that has stuck with it and joined us along the way! 5000thangel, glad to hear that everything has turned out well! Good for you! Smart to make the cookies how you don't like them ;) eulogy, can't wait to see the progress you make! i hope your shins don't act up anymore! good job on the exercise! so far I'm having a great day! Already drank 6 bottles of water and it's 2:30...I have found that I think I actually need more than 100 oz's of water on some days, yesterday I was quite thirsty. I did my 5 mile speed work today, it went nicely! I have a rest day tomorrow (from running) in preparation for my last really long run before the marathon, it will be 22 miles! Tomorrow I also meet with my trainer, I'm excited for that, I hope he doesn't push me too hard since I will run so far on Saturday. Anyway, I just picked up and cleaned a lot down stairs...my boys are down there and it sounds like I better go take them somewhere before the whole house gets trashed again...why do I even bother to clean, lol!! Don't forget to drink your water and eat fruits and veggies!! They are much more satisfying then empty carbs! Eat fiber and protein too, all those things help me get through my day so much better then "empty" food. gotta go to the store to buy some more apples, bananas, plums...my son is even eating apples and carrots lately, pretty happy about that!! OK have a good day everyone, you can do it!!! Ann |

Just think you will get through it because you have no other choice :) I hope you start feeling better! Just stick with it, you're probably just overwhelmed with things that are going on right now. Just get through these times you're having right now and only time will help improve how your feeling. Just get through it! You can rant on here as much as you want to!!! I think as women we all get moody sometimes and don't always know exactly why. Just start fresh and remember your ultimate goal. Get through the tough times, you can do it! wantobehot, yeah, you're right, I never really thought about the water and skin thing, but I think it really does make a difference...it probably also helps with looking younger too, which is always a great plus :) Sherry, glad to hear about your nice walk and that you had a good calorie day!! Always a good feeling! Yeah, I am starting to understand why I run into people who just won't drink diet soda's...it's all making sense to me after my little soda episode, lol. eulogy, welcome to the group! glad to have you here :) nice job on quitting smoking, always a plus to your health! It's motivating to read that you don't even enjoy fast food anymore...hmm...some food for thought for me! I still crave it occasionally, but I'd LOVE to get the mindset of not even enjoying it! Good job with the working out! I'm sure you will succeed in it and feel the great benefits from it!! Ashley, congrats on being at your lowest!! YAY!! Part for you!! lol. It definitely is a commitment and lifestyle! As I get closer to maintenance I realize this more and more!! Also nice job on the quitting smoking thing, I know that must be a serious life adjustment! Good for you on losing weight even with that change in your life! love to hear motivating stories! I liked reading your post! Salomershy, welcome to the group to you! nice job with working your way down! always better to go down then up! That cardio and exercising will be great for you! it will help with your metabolism and I'm sure help to shed those last few pounds you want! Good luck with it and know that you can do ANYTHING that you REALLY want to do!! I'm having a great day so far!! Already drank 5 bottles of water!! I don't love the way water tastes, but I DO love the affects it has on my body, simply lovely! OK enough for now! Remember everyone stick with your goals! We can all do it together!! Ann |

You can totally make your goal, only 6.4! Laura, that was very interesting about the soda! the more I read and learn about soda the more it kind of makes me want to not drink it at all anymore! Good that you are at your maintenance. I hope you do well there. It's a little scary for me to think about maintenance. Sherry, Glad you're in it for a good week!! Wanda, nice to see you again! 4.4, that's incredible, good job!!! I'm already at 1000 calories today, it's 2:15 p.m. I've eaten all healthy things. I ran 7 miles (5 of which were on incline on the treadmill)...so I think I'm allowing a little bit more calories today, but not much...I'm just going to listen to my body and not over eat but also try to not under eat. I've already drank 4 bottles of water today, only 2 more to go! Let's keep it up everyone!! Ann |

| OK, so I'm glad we have one more week of this challenge...perhaps one more to redeem myself!!!! Laura, WOW! Way to go with your weigh in, that's excellent, I can't even imagine how good that must feel!!! Keep it up! I really hope your cold goes away!! That is no fun at all!! Glad to hear your in recovery mode. Ashley, I'm very impressed with you sticking to your calories, that is excellent!! 8 pounds is definitely within your reach!! Apparantly I'm now back to a 6 pound reach to get to 115, let's do this together!!! I totally hear you on the belly fat! It is SO stubborn!!! Speaking of crunches I was getting "hit" on by a guy at the gym today while I was trying to do my abs exercises. I never completed them because the only way to get the guy to stop talking to me was to leave! I was kind of bummed that I didn't ever finish my ab workout....I guess if that happens again, I will have to remember to finish my abs somewhere else or at home! Sherry, Glad San Fran treated you well!! Brazilian food is definitely healthy and I love it, it is sooo good! Good job on working hard on your trip to exercise and eat well!! Sounds like you had lots of fun! Naija, 126 is a great number too! Thanks for your encouragement :) Well done with all of your exercise!! That's great too! We can do this, come on, let's make it a super good week!!! wantobehot, nice job on maintaining! Jess, I know there's always lots of reading to do on this thread :) that's a good thing :) Way to go on the loss!!!! Thanks for the advice about the patch! That really does help! I will have to look into that after a couple more weeks of figuring things out! YOU CAN GET TO YOUR GOAL WEIGHT!!! Let's ALL do it together!!! OK, I am trying to get myself all revved up for this coming week! I'm ready to get back into this hard core, anyone else in it with me?!?! My goal for this week: NO DIET SODA'S!!!! ONLY WATER!!!! I think that is part of what threw me WAY off last week. I started rewarding myself with drinking LOTS of diet soda and not as much water as usual...it led to craving lots of carbs and unhealthy food. NO MORE OF THAT!!! I'm going to work REALLY hard this week to overcome these obstacles and really try to get the weight down!!! If you ever are craving anything, don't do it, come onto this thread and POST, POST, POST, and don't cave in!!! (this is what I plan to do this week) :) OK, but on the other hand if you do fall off the path, just pick up and start fresh! Let's do it together!!!!! Ann ;) |

| Thanks for all your replies! I just wanted to report that I stuck with my calorie intake today!! YAY!! I still feel really bloated and "overflowing" from yesterday. That's OK though, I know that with time hopefully my body will just simmer down :) Naija, hope you're doing well today. How did your workout go? Sherry, have fun shopping in San Fran and "be sure to wear some flowers in your hair"...just kidding, I couldn't resist writing that though. You can do it while you're away! Hope you have lots of fun, you deserve to!! Must feel great weighing in at 115, nice job!!! Madhu, thanks for the encouragement!! Wanda, see you on Monday! Laura, thanks for the ideas on the baked potato. you know I think that might be what's happening to me. I need to eat something more substantial to satisfy these cravings. Even oatmeal is good too sometimes for that. You're always so good to me every time I post about my binges...thanks! Impedimente, sounds like you are very on top of everything for exercise and eating! You can totally meet your goal! Just keep at it and it will start melting off!! It's amazing how when you look back after 3 months and how fast it flew by and you could either be the same weight as you were 3 months ago, or be 20 pounds less (or whatever your goal might be). I think as far as the key to breaking the 130 barrier, the only thing I can say is give it time. It will happen if you are doing all the things you have written about! keep it up! well, here's to another good day! weighed myself tonight (I know at night time!!!)...not too shabby, could have been worse...let's hope I can do it by Monday!! | naija, I usually consume 1200-1500 calories per day.
...but last night, i stopped counting when I ended up binging on everything in sight. plus I drank hardly any water yesterday! I'm struggling here. I don't know why I did that last night! Today I'm really struggling too. I'm not exactly sure what my problem is. My body has been really mixed up lately for TOM. I'm really not sure if and when it will come because I've been having random bleeding that is not when I'm usually supposed to. I asked my Dr. about it and she just acted like, you're healthy you're training for a marathon, so in that moment I thought, yeah that makes sense. I just wish my body would get back on a normal schedule because I have been feeling a bit bloated plus lack of water from yesterday doesn't help with that. anyway, I'm not sure if I'm on my period or not. My cycle is really confused and so am I! I'm supposed to start using the patch, but I don't know when to start it because I'm not really sure when/if my body is having a normal period, or if it's just acting up and bleeding randomly. sorry, for the rant about all that!!!!!!! anywho, I was up 3.5 pounds today from yesterday...that's a lot! OK someone please reel my head back in and help me get refocused. If I refocus today then my binge last night shouldn't do too much damage for the week!!!! I don't know what's getting into me lately! | Hello everyone :) Looks like we have more new people, yay!! I will do my best to reply to a lot of your comments, but forgive me if I miss anything :) Naija, good job not giving into the pizza! Just stick with it, you can do it! I completely understand that feeling of wanting to just say, who cares, we all go through it at times! Just get threw the hump of it, if you haven't already!! Wanda, way to go with already dropping 4 pounds. I think sometimes it's the best when you're not in a rush to lose, that means that it won't be as stressful, which I think works in your favor for losing. Good idea with the carrots and celery. Also wish you well with the breast cancer! come post often!! Madhu, Naija, I love the runnersworld.com it's great! lots of great info.! Jess, glad you're having better days!! it's always nice to hear other people mention that you look like you've lost weight!! Keep it up! impedimenta, welcome and join in the fun!! post often. Laura, great job with the water. On a usual day I try to drink 100 ounces every day, with all my running it makes it easier to drink that much. I do have days though where I really don't feel like drinking water (like today), so it's a good reminder to stick with the water, it really helps with the whole weight loss thing! Glad the eating thing didn't do what you thought it would :)!! miss, join the club, it's a great group here! today for some reason I've been really fighting "aimless" eating. I just want to reach for things...I'm already up to 1361 and it's 4:30 p.m. I'm hoping I won't feel like eating the rest of the day and just drinking...wish me luck!!! keep up all the hard work ladies! | 5000thangel, so glad to see you on here. You can totally do it! Just stick with it!!!!! take it one day at a time! baby steps :)
I'm getting ready to go to the gym. Hope you guys all have a good calorie counting day and good exercise today! I weighed myself this morning. (I do that more now that I'm at a weight I feel pretty good about.) So, I was a little nervous since I ate some more last night that it might show I gained, but I was happy to still see 116.6 and you know what that means if I really stick with my calories then it can only go down this week, right?!?! OK well have a good day everyone! Ann |

| Laura, I like how you mentioned you don't like to refer to it as a "bad" day. way to go with your bike ride! you and Sherry are kind of motivating me to rethink that perhaps 115 might be my top weight range too...we'll see how my body feels about that. wantobehot, way to go! glad the whole popcorn thing worked out for you and way to go with the pant sizes! Madhu, yay! in the 126 range, nicely done! sounds exciting about your training! can't wait to hear about your runs, hope it goes well!! wanda, welcome aboard! we do weigh ins every Monday morning for a Biggest Loser challenge. It's quite simple really. We do these challenges for 4 weeks and whoever loses the highest percentage of weight wins. What do they win? they win the fact that they lost weight, they look great, and feel great!! Right now it is week 3 in this round of the challenge. (Am I right on that, anyone, it is week 3 right?!) please feel free to weigh in though with us! Sherry, that's a great feeling seeing that yes, you actually are that weight for 2 weeks in a row!!! YAY!!! I really should clean my kitchen out too!!! you are so good doing all that. good job on not giving in to the junk food! Well, for me tonight my body is feeling a bit shaky. I had eaten 1400 calories for the day. I thought maybe my body feels really weird because I need to eat more. so, I ended up making a berry smoothy (skim milk, mixed berries, splenda) and eating banana. I think that will bring my total to around 1700 for the day. I'm actually OK with that though. I ate all healthy stuff today. Plus I realized you know I have been lifting weights more frequently lately which causes your body to continue burning calories even when you're finished lifting. Plus I did my 6 miles today and tomorrow I run 10 miles. I'm hoping that between the exercise and my healthy eating it is the right balance for today. I feel pretty good. I just hope to lose some this week again! I'm starting a new experiment. I plan to eat fish EVERY night for dinner this week and see if it does anything different to the scale. Can't wait to see if it helps! I better get to bed, I think that's part of my body feeling shaky, I need some more sleep! have a good night all!! Ann |

| GOOD MONDAY MORNING WEIGH IN EVERYONE!!!!!!!!
OK, so I stepped on the scale in hopes of seeing 116 range....drum roll....I weighed in at 116.6!!!! I'm so happy. I worked SOO hard Saturday and Sunday especially to try and be REALLY cautious about all my calorie counting and it paid off, YAY!!! Let's see those numbers ladies!!! I'm off to the gym for a 6 miler today. I hope that you all are feeling well and that you will keep up the good work and stick with it. Don't worry if you had a bad day, just forget about it and start fresh this morning! I've heard that if you eat well like 90% of the time that you should still be good with your weight...that's not the exact way it was explained to me, but anyway, I've always thought about it if I've eaten really well all week and then blow it that, OK if I start being REALLY good right now then it will be OK!!! Anyway, we'll check in later with you all!! I will try to get everyone's weight listed and their percentage lost later today or tomorrow! Ann |
