| Hello Everyone...
Just "checking in" again. I finally got back to the gym today, and did 48 minutes on the LifeCycle. I'm not going to weigh myself for a few days--I don't need anything more to feel down about right now. Anyway, thanks for all of the supportive e-mails and posts! Life throws more curves than just cellulite, I guess. Donna |

| No cookies here, I promise. I have no real food cravings right now, anyway, so I don't have to lean on my willpower too hard. That will change. What I really need is a full night of sleep. That will come, too, I know.
Thanks, everybody for all the words of support. You are all really helping keep things in perspective. I see the truth, now I must just be strong and act on it. Love to You All, Donna |

Thank you. I confess, I do feel very alone right now. Alone and very, very tired. |

| Everybody...
I haven't posted in a very long time, I know. I've had bronchitis, then yesterday, my husband told me he wants a divorce. (It is not the first--or even the second-- time he has done this.) We've been married for about 6.5 years. Needless to say, I'm kind of a mess, anyway. I have not been following my diet or exercise plan, but I haven't been bingeing, and I have been pretty active. So, with that and the stress, I am down to 157.5 pounds. I have really lost motivation, though. I have my personal stress, massive pressure at work, and financial crises going on all at once. I can't even imagine going to the gym right now, even though it would probably be great for me. Any tips? |

| Hello, Ladies,
I can only heartily agree with the general frustration over the slow-moving scales, betraying body, and the completely inexplicable weight gains following weeks of starving and working my butt off. (Also with that d___ed fat lady who shadows me everywhere.) I only gained a couple of pounds from my 10-day "tantrum" against dieting and fitness, so I am trying to just get back on track. I have a miserable chest cold, though, so I'm not terribly motivated to work out. But, I'm not too interested in food, either. Bonna, how is it going? |

| Hi, Everybody...
My Monday through Wednesday Stats are: H20: Monday=about 100 ozs.;Tuesday=about120 ozs.; Wednesday=about 100 ozs. Exercise: Not much, I have a miserable chest cold. Still, the usual housework & yardwork when I get home. Weight; This a.m. = 160. (I can hardly believe I didn't gain more back with my crazed 10-day belligerent eating tantrum. Must have been the extra exercise with the girl scouts) |

| I would like to keep the water/exercise/weight thing going just to make myself accountable; maybe we could have a another, changing catagory, if that's not too complicated? For example, what fun, relaxing or special thing did you do for yourself this week that is completely unrelated to food? (Just an idea.)
OK, here are my stats since last Thursday, (when I started my stint as a unit leader at Girl Scout Camp): Thursday through Sunday: For each day: H20= At least 100 ozs. (Outside in 98 degrees with a water bottle strapped to my hip.); Exercise=hours of walking, climbing, hiking with a pack. Weight= ?? (I'll find out tomorrow at the gym.) |

| Hi, everyone...I'm back. Welcome Chris, Lisa and others....
OK, I just spent four days as a unit leader at Girl Scout camp. Soooo, I didn't "diet," but I most certainly got my exercise and water in! I missed all of you--I mean, reading all of your posts and feeling like I have friends to talk with. After the previous week's diet disaster, I really was ready to just "accept my fatness." You all helped me, though, and I honestly don't think I've gained that much back. (Haven't weighed in yet, too scared.) Now, If I can just get to the gym tomorrow. (Too sore today--all that hill climbing with a pack on.) I have to say, I am much less sore and fatigued than I was last year, so all that working out MUST have helped. Beth, "My body is betraying me." You said it. I cannot tell you how many times I've said that to myself over and over these past few years. For me, it started when I found out I had breast cancer. I think it kind of made me mad at my own body. I don't know if that makes any sense. Then, I just sort of turned into an "indoor" person, started cooking all kinds of yummy things--whole meals, not just baked goodies, like I used to--the whole thing snowballed into 35 extra pounds. Well, I'm not giving up. I may be really crabby about how hard it is and how long it takes, but I am not going to be fat for the rest of my life. I just can't. Thanks, everybody. --Donna |

| Thanks so much, Elaine. I hope your husband and son are okay, and I am so sorry about your horse. I remember losing my very first horse--I still can't really talk about it. They have such a unique and special place in our hearts, don't they?
I added up my calories from yesterday, and I was under 1,300, so maybe my rampant bingeing came to its own natural end. I did start my period on Saturday, so maybe that's related to my seemingly temporary inasanity. Part of it, too, is the fact that I worked out and dieted so diligently for six weeks and only lost a little bit of weight. AAAAUUUUURRRGGGHHHH! |

| Hi, everybody. I have spent the past week completely falling off the wagon, and I am so very discouraged right now. I'm sorry. Maybe I can't do this. Has anyone out there tried "Slim For Life"? I heard an ad for them on the radio this morning. Maybe I'm just desperate, but it sounded like it might be something that could help me.
I don't even know what my weight is, because I refuse to weigh myself right now. |

| OK, ladies, I have been completely absent since last Wednesday. I haven't kept track of water or calories, I have been bingeing, I haven't been to the gym, and, for obvious reasons, I haven't weighed myself. I'm beginning to wonder if I can actually stick with a diet and exercise program at all.
I have nine 6th-grade girls to ride herd over at Girl Scout Camp starting on Thursday morning. I'm not even looking forward to it like I have each year...I think I'm just depressed and stressed out. Anyway, I'm going to try and keep track of water and exercise today, and get back in the groove. Donna |

| ananumar,
You're a GENIUS! You make so much more sense than the "everybody has to eat three meals a day" and, "breakfast is the most imporatnt meal of the day," stuff that they try to apply to EVERYBODY. For instance, both my older brother and I will often go without eating during a very stressful or intense day--(he races top alcohol drag boats, and I used to show jumpers)--while my husband CANNOT go more than four hours without a meal during waking hours. I KNOW eating a big carb-laden breakfast--even "good" carbs--makes me nauseous, logy and even kind of distracted for a good part of the day. I've also learned that I can nap for about 20 minutes in the afternoon--not longer than that--and not be a zombie for the rest of the day. Nancy, add to that list; floss every day, eat healthier and exercise for the fun of it, (because you can), don't wear stilletto heels every day, and tell your family that you love them every day even if they're being annoying. |

| For Sunday:
H20: Truly, I think, none. I drank coffee, diet sodas, etc., but no pure water. (I did find some peppermint water I'm going to try.) Exercise: Minimal, really, about 30 mins. of housework. Weigh-in day = Saturday (And, boy am I glad of that because I went WAY off with my eating on Sunday...A big thick New York steak, corn on the cob, martinis, ICE CREAM...Aaaauuurgh!) |

| Ananumar,
Thanks so much for the real "skinny," on your methods...can you give me an example of your sleep/meal/activity schedule? I have a feeling that this is the direction I need to go. For instance, I hardly ever eat breakfast, simply because I am not hungry in the morning. If I'm going to be working out mid-day, I have to force myself to eat something so I have the energy to get through the workout, and then I feel weird and "snacky" in the late afternoon. I'm not good at balancing this. Thanks. |

| Sometimes, when I'm just really hungry and I shouldn't have any more to eat for the day, I eat a tablespoon of peanut butter--an actual tablespoon, not a measuring tablespoon--and it seems to help. Try chasing it with a big glass of ice water. | |||

| Welcome, Beckyj7 and annanumar! Becky, Debbie is so right...If your local gym or YMCA has a pool, you might want to look into water aeorobics. Right after my second reconstructive sugery, I started water aerobics to get ready to walk in the Race for the Cure. I was very skeptical at first, but it turned out to be wonderful exercise that I enjoyed even when I was hurting---it's good exercise, but very relaxing. That really helped my frame of mind, which was very down, fearful and grieving at that point in my treatment. You might really like a water exercise class. Ana, Major High Five to you for losing 22 pounds!! (I just seem to keep fighting with the same five over and over.) I don't know why, but it seems like just changing what I do for exercise--even a different type of the same machine--seems to help. I'm not much into weight training, but my gym has a class that sort of combines it with ab work and stretching and some light cardio--I think I really am feeling and seeing some results from that. One of my co-workers who is also struggling to get fit and lose some weight--and who knows how chagrined I am about not getting the weight off-- came up to me yesterday and said, "You should have measured yourself when you started, because I think your booty is getting smaller; your clothes fit different." Needless to say, I sincerely welcomed this comment, because I feel like I've been working my butt off for five weeks and cannot believe how much I miss ice cream...all for five stinkin' pounds. Maybe she's right, but I still can't get into those jeans I want to wear....(Heavy sigh.) Can anybody talk to me about my heart rate when I exercise? My "target" for cardio is 117-151; it always comes up around 134 for my workout on the elipticals...I always manually raise it to 145. I've noticed it is taking a little longer to to get up there now, I can control it with my breathing a little bit better, and I can bring it down a little faster during my cooldown. Should I be wanting to get it lower in the middle of the workout, or higher, or what? (I don't really want to stay on the eliptical for much more than 65 minutes, because I'm afraid it will make my lower back hurt too much.) 2phat, Where are you, Babe? I miss hearing from you. Geez, I'm babbling, sorry guys! Have a wonderful weekend, everybody! |

| For Friday:
H20: about 40 ozs. (Flavored waters losing their appeal, and it's hot so I'm drinking a lot of iced tea.) So, not good. Exercise: 65 mins on the eliptical, ave. heart rate = 144, burned 688 calories. This workout is getting so much easier...finally. Weight: (Saturday)--158 lbs. I'm glad this is back down, but I looked over my calorie log for the past week: Most days I ate less than 1,200 calories--a couple of days I was at 625 and 780--and one day I ate about 1,700. I am concerned that, in order to actually lose weight, I am going to have to stay under 1,000 per day. That is going to be very difficult, especially on the days I do cardio at the gym. |

| Welcome, happygal! Wow, that's great that you kept the weight off for 4 years! You're awesome! I know what you mean about carbs..the really sweet kind are my personal bugaboo. I have a tremendous thing for chocolate, and ice cream. (But not chocolate ice cream..weird, huh?) But the most unhealthy person I know is a guy who used to run marathons and eat low-carb and massive protein. Now, he is just a dietary mess, and obese to boot. I think low-to-medim carb, in the long run, is better than low-to-none, don't you? I also know what you mean about getting off track--last week was a total debacle for me. It's amazing that I only gained back two pounds. I'm really trying to get back in the groove this week, but it's really hard to stay motivated when I'm craving a hot fudge sundae and I'm going to the gym five times and week, but the d____ed scale won't go down and my clothes are still tight. Bonna, how are you doing? I know back pain is the worst--it impacts everything. The stress you're under contributes, too. How's your mom? Please take extra dear care of yourself, and don't push yourself too soon. 2phat, What's up, girl? Terri, That is GREAT!! What a feeling! Big High Five to you, Babe. Donna |

| 2phat, (sounds like a rapper :)
On Saturday, I did 65 minutes on the LF Total Body Trainer (eliptical), but all I did on Sunday was swim for 25 minutes. Today, though, I did a "Weight Train" class, which was kind of like a slow step class with weights and bands...it was a good workout, I liked it. I think it might be a good workout on alternative days from cardio machines. (We'll see how sore I am tomorrow!) Have you checked out the tool on this website that tells how how many calories you've burned doing various things? It's a hoot, and really quite encouraging. (I need to look up how many calories I'd burn washing my car...that's a good "non-exercise exercise.") Take a look! |
