Ann, are you ok? I think you ate too much fiber, and
with all the water, it's probably sitting in your intestines like a big
waterlogged sponge. As with everything else, more is not necessarily better. There's an optimal range for just about everything we do. (Hope I'm not sounding like too much of a MOM!!) I would keep fiber around 35 g. Water can also be overdone to the point that it damages kidneys and other organs?..they get waterlogged and stop performing. The best advice I?ve seen about drinking water is to have a glass or two of water ½ hour before meals, and between meals if desired, but not with the meal. When we drink with our food, digestive enzymes get diluted, and food doesn?t digest properly. Same with exercise?..there?s a right range??.it?s important to not do too little or too much. Same with calories. If you don?t get relief soon, or if you're in any pain, you might consider calling your doctor. There are warnings on fiber supplements that say that too much fiber can cause serious blockages in the throat if not enough water is taken with them. Maybe if you continue modest amounts of water today, any blockage you may have will just dissolve on its own soon. A doctor might be the better person to advise, though. |

Hi all, and sorry I haven't been around. Ittybitty left for her convention, and I'm taking care of ittybitty jr. all by myself. No numbers for me this week. I didn't weigh myself!! Hehe!! And I quit counting calories, too. I always eat healthily anyway.......so I haven't really changed anything except for not counting. The counting we did was good.....I feel it gave me a better idea of how many calories are in the foods I normally eat. More knowledge is always good. I had a craving for raisin bran....so got some at Whole Foods, organic with as little sugar as I could find. It's yummy with soymilk! Probably around 250 calories for a satisfying start to the day. Hey, I never mentioned that pesticides are hormone mimickers, and I think they could contribute to weight gain. Grains have the most pesticides, and so I use organic pastas, breads, etc whenever possible. Started playing tennis this week. What fun!! I'm giving up the treadmill because of being BORING, and I'm definitely not runninig on the trail anymore, because it hurt my knees and I was down for a whole week because of it. But tennis is SOO much fun for me...I could play almost every day. And when the rains come, I'll maybe take up yoga or pilates. Clothing is still feeling loose, and I'm feeling more fit, sitting straighter, feeling more energetic........so all is well! I'll try to read more about how everyone's doing later! S :D |

| In the 60's, at 120, I wore a 10 or 12. My wedding dress was a size 4, and it fit my 103 pounds perfectly. That was in 1973. Now, at 130, I'm into a size 4 cropped pant? The only reason I can feel good about that the 6's I own in the same style became too loose. That's a pretty fair guage that I've lost some inches. I wouldn't compare sizes with anyone else. I notice that even within the same brand, there's lots of variation in sizes. Of course, we're going to post about the tiniest sizes we can get into, but I have a size 8 BCBG dress I recently purchased, that fits perfectly. Most of my jeans/pants are 6 or 8....DKNY, Kenneth Cole, Banana Republic. |

Well, I have stuck to my plan, and then my revised plan, and I have STILL not lost any weight. Bah. But.....I think I mentioned that the size 6 Calvin cropped pants I bought when I started are now too big, and I went back to get the size 4 this weekend. Maybe the scales don't lie, but they don't tell the whole story sometimes. Congrats to all of you who lost actually weight! Good job! |

Ann, maybe have a solid protein food and some water? A piece of chicken? Can of tuna? I guess my question is, what does your heart desire? Is it boredom talking? Or emotional emptiness? Or do your muscles just need more fuel, because of all the exercise you're doing, so that they don't waste away? Binging never gets us anywhere except for sad, sick and overweight, but this could be a signal that your body needs a bit more energy right now. You're the only one who can really know. Sometimes when I get that urge to eat before bed, I'll have ONE tortilla chip dipped in sour cream. Honest....just one. The first one tastes the best anyway. If I really, really want ice cream and can't get it off my mind, ONE teaspoon usually quiets down the craving. Before I go to the refrigerator, I decide what I'm doing and visualize myself doing it. Then I do it and then leave the kitchen. I'm getting to like this hungry feeling! :D It's almost 6pm on the West Coast, and I've eaten under 350 calories so far today, but I'm about to have a really nice chicken salad with organic baby greens, beets, avocado, onions, cherry tomatoes.....a little vinagrette for dressing and maybe a tablespoon or two of Parmesan cheese on top. And a margarita made with straight lime juice, tequila and Grand Marnier. What's helped me stop eating the foods that aren't so good for us is mostly my education in nutrition. We are all a bit brainwashed into thinking that most of the things that big "food" manufacturers put out are truly foods. To me, eating french fries means the same as shooting plastic into my veins. That's how I think of it, and it's amazing how I am no longer tempted!! ;) Cane sugar = poison to me. One thing I believe in though, is natural, animal fats. Too much depression is caused by low fat diets. We need fats in order to feed the brain and give a feeling of satiety. I like animal fats better than vegetable because they're what humans evolved on. Corn/soybean/nut/olive oils are pretty highly refined foods...modern inventions. Calorie-count always gives an F for my organic butter. I just ignore it. :) Anyway...off to have dinner......pleasant dreams everyone! (Don't dream about food!) |

Flo, thanks! Well, I think you look gorgeous. :D I just made one, but how do you get it posted on this site? They give you an html tag, and I don't see a way to upload that. I tried putting it on a page on my own website, but that didn't show up either. Hmmm...... I found I had to plus size my girl, because 5'3" and 130 looks thinner than I do. How fun!! [edit] Never mind....looks like we have to use IE rather than Firefox for this. :) I should have her posted in my pics now. |

| Good morning all! It's getting easier and easier to stick to the 1200 calories. I've convinced myself that it feels better to be a little hungry than to be full. It feels lighter......and light is what it's all about. I'm also getting used to treading that fine line between mild hunger and dizziness/faintness. I read somewhere...(cannot recall where now) ...that Thomas Jefferson believed in always leaving the table hungry. He lived a long, lean, healthy life! Ann, hope the rain clears! Flo, is that really you in the picture? Sherry, tell the relatives you're on a special cleansing diet for health? ;) (You are...cleansing the excess fat!) Laura, tofu lasagna? Do you have a recipe to share? Sounds yummy! Got to run...hope you're all feeling LIGHT! |

Hi ladies! I've been almost religious about 1200 calories per day, and I have STILL not lost a pound, but I have to say, I'm back up to 12 reps of bicep curls on 10-pound weights!! :D I'll have to get some 12-pounders soon! Woo hoo! And my clothes are loose. That feels great. Hope everyone has a good, healthy day! |

I do not like being last on the list. It puts me in a bad mood. :) No, really. Ann, to answer your question about eating healthy. Yes, I know I'll be eating healthy after this is done, because I always do. That's probably why I maintain the weight. Ok, I didn't lose, but I don't gain either. I'm 58 years old, 130 pounds, and I look hot. No gray hair. No sad, sagging face or neck, and barely a wrinkle. I'm planning this 40th high school reunion, and I don't want to sound like I'm just bragging, but believe me, you DON'T want to look like most of my classmates!!! For your lifelong beauty, stay off the hydrogenated fats, the sugars, the white, lifeless flours. That eliminates most of what's in the grocery stores. Shop the perimeter...the produce, meats, dairy and wines. Maybe when you get to your desired weight, instead of "pigging out," try adding more variety to those healthy foods. Have some guacamole!! Some whole milk yogurt with blueberries and macadamias. A grilled cheese sandwich on whole wheat. I've kept to 1200 calories for the last two days. I'm hungry most of the time, but it's ok. I can function, and maybe in time I'll get used to it. Ittybitty says I'm getting slimmer...it's true. The clothing fits better. I do put on muscle easily, and it could be that I'm putting on muscle and losing fat, but not losing weight. That will be ok with me. Speaking of ittybitty!! She was in a panic today, because her entire wardrobe doesn't fit!! And she has to attend an important convention in TWO weeks!! We're going to be hustling to get alterations done. And even her shoes are too big!! She's been a true inspiration, getting to the gym every day, even when she thought that what she was doing wasn't working. So, moral of story,KEEP AT IT! (Telling myself that, too....hehe...) |

| Great job, all you losers!! Keep up the good work! Even just one pound lost means that you're doing all the right things. The only challenge is to keep doing what you're doing. Any of us who haven't lost anything, like ME (still at 130 today), must re-evaluate what we're doing and make necessary changes. I'm cutting my calories to 1200 per day, and getting back to my regular workout routine, maybe adding some yoga. Like Clinton says (of Clinton and Stacey), good posture can create the illusion of losing 10 pounds, and if I can't really lose them, I can at least pretend I did! :D |

Thanks for all the encouragement! You guys are the greatest!! I WISH this was a plateau, but it's actually a REALLY SLOW START! :D I want results, and I want them now! :D I lost 2 pounds the first week, but I had cut calories too far for a few days, just to get things started. This week I went up to 1400, but I can see now that's got to come down. I probably over-estimated my physical activity. It seemed like a LOT to me, but it's probaby considered "light." I've upped my goal to 125, instead of 120, and I need 1328 calories per day to make that by Aug 11, the day of my high school reunion. So, I guess that's about a little less than a pound per week. This will be ok...still difficult... and I'll have to lose the other 5 pounds after the reunion. Ann, exactly, when I see the scale not moving, and I know I'm doing all I can, it's very discouraging. Ittybitty helped today by re-telling the story of a woman she knows who lost over 60 pounds. Her first couple months, she lost nothing! And then the weight just started dropping off. The same thing has happened with ittybitty, too. (OMG...she really IS getting *ittybitty!!*) And the funny thing is that at the beginning, when she wasn't losing anything and was working very hard, I was the one who told her to keep going. Tables have turned now. :D Thanks all and good luck on the scales tomorrow! |

Congrats Flo!!! Wow....I think you'll hear me screaming if I ever break 130. Why does the scale stick there?? Nice job!! Whatever you're doing, keep it up! Jess, you too!! Nice going! I might have to rename myself "fatso." My scale won't budge under 130, and I really don't know what to do differently. I can't eat any less, and I can't move any more. My joints are too sore from the running this week. Calories have lingered around 1400 all week. I suppose I could cut to 1200....but then I lose energy. Ok, I'm done complaining, and will just sit her quietly until I figure this out. :( |

Fruit and veg, yes!! I figured out that all the cheese was pushing out the fiber. I am officially STEPPING AWAY FROM THE CHEESE. Even non-fat dairy seems to put on the pounds for me. Same with breads and beer, and sugar just sets off bad cravings. I hope to get out to get some more artichokes today! I have a craving....a good one. :D Yesterday afternoon, I went out with ittybitty on her run. Ok, I had to walk most of the way, but I was plenty sore, and the sunshine felt great! Keep up the good work, everyone! |

I have paypal, too. Just a suggestion, maybe we
could make the $10 sort of a registration fee. Two reasons. One,
when we put a little $$$ into something, we're more inclined to be committed
and make it work. It's motivation. And two, I don't want to think
about losing, but once I lose this contest, I'll be more inclined to drag my
feet about paying up. :D Not that anyone else here would ever do
such a thing! Anyway, something to think about. I feel pudgy today. :( Didn't count at all yesterday because I went to a "tasting" for a banquet meal. There were five of us, splitting 3 dishes and 2 desserts, and there was no way I could add up what I had to eat. I probably should have eaten before I went and then just take one bite of each thing...(and then spit it into a napkin!!!...haha..)...but I hadn't slept well the night before and wasn't thinking straight. Then, hungry when I got home, I went for a slice of leftover pizza. I really didn't think the calories would add up to that much, but it feels icky today. Maybe pizza is just evil. Today I had a CHEESE SANDWICH. Ahhh!!! 350 calories, not counting the onion slice and mustard, and that was only on ONE slice of bread! I was supposed to go out with friends for dinner, to a pizza/pasta place, but I just canceled because I can't afford the calories. Hehehe...enough is enough. This pasta/pizza/cheese binge has to come to an end. Fortunately, ittbitty brought home some fish for tonight. She?s so smart! Anyway, Flo, onward!! I think I'll make a detailed food plan for tomorrow before bed tonight. No dairy, no wheat, no sugar......back to eggs and potatoes, artichokes, broccoli....all yummy and satisfying. And that way I'll get back on track before the whole train is derailed. Nice going, all you workout girls! I?m impressed!! Keep up the great work! S |

Ann, thanks for all this! I'm still pondering a prize but am ok with money. Maybe $10 from each of us? How many are we? About 10? ittybitty...it's probably water weight :) schandler...hope the soup was better today. :o Some spices are thermogenic (black pepper, tumeric, cayenne, ginger..), and maybe it has some in it! jessvanscoy....not sure if I responded about low fat proteins. I guess I like fish and chicken the most. Tuna maybe. I get chunk light tongol tuna, packed in spring water without salt, from Trader Joe's. 2 oz has 14 g of protein and zero fat. Tongol is dolphin safe and lowest in mercury toxins. I had 2 - 4oz turkey burgers for dinner. (Protein overload, really!) A whopping 44 g of protein with only 14 g of fat, if I'm calculating correctly. Protein builds muscle. Fats in avocado and nuts keep our skin nice. Cholesterol is good for the brain. Carbs, we need for energy. So a balance at each meal is important to me. Hope everyone had a skinny day! |

Ann, I'm all for doing the competition according to percentage lost. That seems fair. I hate to hear you say that you're afraid you gained muscle weight. That would be a good thing, right? :D However, we have to say what the game is, and if it's to lose weight, and someone happens to lose a dress size and no weight, I'm sure they won't be unhappy. (I hope that made sense!) My daughter will be joining us tomorrow. She's petite too, an author up for 2 RITAs next month, and she wants to lose a few before her convention in Dallas. She's a riot and one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. And REALLY serious about this weight loss thing! We had our pizza and beer party today, and I didn't even count!! Arrggh!! Mañana es un otra día!! I'm in...weigh in tomorrow and go from there! Let's see who the biggest loser is. :D |

Hi Peeps! Great turnout today! Nice going everyone! figurethefat......good job on getting on your bike! Reign in the calories on Monday, maybe? schandler.....sounds like you're in the groove! I've been thinking of trying a little yoga, too. My sister-in-law actually lost a lot of weight doing only yoga. Not sure if it works for everyone that way, but it did for her. I lost most of my baby weight by walking 3 miles (about an hour) per day....and with no dieting whatsoever. (Unfortunately we moved away from the track I walked, and I stopped walking.) I've heard it's even better for losing weight than running, so if you enjoy it, I'd say keep it up? dt78.....good job on getting to the gym even when you were tired! Wow. pretty........great idea about pizza parties! I'm having one here tomorrow........pizza and ice cream, no less! I plan on cutting up some strawberries to put on the ice cream, and I'll have just one scoop with lots of berries. It'll be a treat, and we'll see how the calories add up. Will drink more water..and, wine, .........but one day won't hurt too much. Sometimes you need a "Morale Day." It's important to learn how to handle parties...and car washes with jr. whoppers and fries......... because they're a fact of life! Thank goodness!! :D I think we just need to remember that it's occasional. You've hit a rough patch, maybe, but keep at it! Have some broccoli. :) Green foods always turn me around and make me feel good. Ann, 12 miles. Holy moly! Count me in on the Biggest Loser competition. I love to win, and I think a game is always fun. If I can't win, I can always blame it on my age. :D jessvanscoy....what really got my fiber count up yesterday was 2 cups of broccoli. I was gagging a little by the end of the second cup, but each cup is 9.5 g of fiber. 1 artichoke, is only 40 calories yet 4.5 g of fiber. There's a little fiber in most vegetables, fruits and whole grains........lots in beans (7 per 1/2 cup of pinto beans, 6 per 1/2 cup of garbanzos). Brenda Watson evidently sells fiber products, but I always prefer to stick with real foods. I'm using calorieking.com and the info on packaging to get fiber contents. 'night all!! I just washed my clothes today, and even though I haven't broken that 130 yet, things are fitting looser, and I'm thrilled and hopeful! Hope is a wonderful thing. :D |

Hi new people! I think Ann said "the more the merrier" when she started this group yesterday. So, welcome! You are all an inspiration! Today was my weights day, which I did, but just thinking of all of you running, I hopped onto the treadmill and did my usual running routine as well! Now I'm eating a small baked potato with 1/2 tbsp of butter and a poached egg. Yum! Only 245 calories and a very satisfying lunch. Ann Louise Gittleman (The Fat Flush Plan) suggests eating 1 or 2 eggs per day, since eggs are high in lecithin, which helps to burn body fat. Lemon juice in water, twice a day, will do the same. I forgot to mention yesterday, that I'm also trying to increase my fiber consumption while cutting calories. I saw Brenda Watson on PBS, speaking about her Fiber35 program. According to her calculations, someone with my weight (130) would burn an extra 250 calories per day just by consuming 35 grams of fiber. Yesterday I finally managed 34. woo hoo! Last week we went through our kitchen and found calorie/fiber/protein values for everything we thought we might eat, put them into an excel file and printed it to post on the fridge. With a history of low blood sugar, and a tendency to get disoriented and unable to figure out what to eat when I'm too hungry, this list really helps! I'm still not sure how much protein we should be eating. Any ideas on that? Yesterday mine was up to 50 grams, but that was with almost 1500 calories, which is more caloires than I'd like to have on a daily basis. Ok, I'm off to prepare for the Father's Day party I'm throwing tomorrow. Have a good day, all! Thanks for all the added Friends! Let's do it! :D |

We could add each other as Friends and get to see more info about each other. I'll play with that a little later. Right now I have to go to the store for FOOD! lol Has anyone tried Butter Buds? Hey! I just found this site, and this was
the first link I clicked on! Perfect! I am: height: 5'3" weight: 130 goal weight: 120 frame: small activity level: light age: 58 At 1200 calories/day, this site says I should lose the 10 pounds by Aug 26, which is 15 days after my 40th high school reunion, and that's great. Although my frame is "light," I'm fairly muscular and won't want to get too much thinner. I'm going to do treadmill work and weights, alternating weights one day and treadmill the next, taking one day per week off for rest. On the treadmill I've been trying something my daughter read about, 15 seconds of fast running, followed by 45 seconds of walking, for 10 sets. It only takes 10 minutes and is supposed to be the best way to raise metabolism. Although I haven't done any reading on this myself, it does feel like a good workout! I have a master's degree in nutrition, and if anyone has any questions, I'll be happy to help where I can. With a weight loss goal of only 10 pounds, I don't think I can be the biggest loser in terms of pounds. But count me in!! I've seen similar forums start before, and what mostly happens is that people tend to not post if they're backsliding, which is exactly when they should be reaching out for support. Can we make a pact to check in at least every few days, whether we're doing well or not? Good luck all. Let's all be losers! ;) |
