| Fitness | Is a 15-Minute Circuit Workout as effective as a 30-Minute Heavy Lifting Workout? | Nov 14 2009 05:51 (UTC) |
|
karozel - Hmmm~ when you say "challenging," you mean that I'd be struggling to get 8-10 reps, right? In this circuit training workout, you had to repeat the entire set 3 times. So.... near the end, I really did struggle. Does that count? Ugh... |

karozel - "Effective" as in, would it give me the same results as weight lifting (moderate-intense) for 20~30 mins. And mmmm.... I'm not sure whether my circuit workout is "fun to do" haha! So it's a good calorie burner, but not a good way to build/maintain muscle??? What if I feel sore after the workout for few days? |

minda_spk oh yes yes =) I can understand what you're saying!!! I've heard that push ups are one of the best exercises to tone your entire upper body
floggingsully hm, never thought that about the crunches!! "squeezing my rectus abdominis"?? are you talking about sucking in?? lol when I said "tightening," I meant "flexing" Yes, yes. I'm trying to lose fat on my stomach while also keeping my abs in shape/solid. Not like skinny flabby, like I've been talking about before. |

jcl76 Ehh.... I don't starve anymore, I don't purge anymore (I've never had bulimia before), I've realized that it's all going to make everything worse. There are some days when I slip, but they are minor ones and the frequency is decreasing very very much... I don't think it was necessary for you to write about my past eating disorders on this thread. And it seems like you haven't read any of the other journal entries about me recovering and being happy. I don't know if you have ever battled an eating disorder, but "just listening to your body" is not as easy for those who have suffered. But now I am so much better than before. I can even say that I'm 90% recovered. I do take eating disorders seriously. They've fcked up my past. But I am also an optimist. I don't think you really understand how hard it is to "just listen to your body" and act all carefree. |

minda_spk Right.... dumbbell shoulder presses do make you tighten your abs. Haha! What a coincidence that you were talking about planks and push ups! This morning, I went to the gym and did pushups first, then planks =D But why wouldn't u do planks without doing push ups?
pilgrimdude i literally "LOL"ed when u wrote megan fox hahahaha =P are your abs hard? I think I'll just focus on lifting weights and do some ab exercises once in awhile. |

Okay, perhaps I should do some direct ab workouts.... how often do you think I should do them? I'm about to hit the gym soon, so I'll do the prone bridge(plank) && side plank!
pilgrimdude Mmmm~ I love the burning feeling in my stomach hahahaha!! Deliberately tightening the abs for a short amount of time is quite effective it seems.... that's the same thing as tightening my abs while doing any weight lifting and letting them rest when I finish the exercise, right?
once again, thank you guys!! |

floggingsully Darling, I have a lot of questions for you!!!
"Tight and toned" means... well, what I wrote just above!! I just want less fat around my stomach, but I don't want to look like those skinny girls who are definitely "small", but their body is not toned (sort of flabby?) Not necessarily 6 packs (&& that's a goal that'll be hard to attain), but you know... fit and somewhat defined!

amethystgirl Oh my goodness!!! I never knew that fitness videos were mainly for people who didn't go to the gym/lifted weights !!!!!
Okay okay..... I need you to be STRAIGHTFORWARD with me, LOL... So ab exercises are pretty much a waste of time? It's just better to remember to tighten my abs while I'm lifting weights? && this will keep my abs tight and toned, yes? |

I completely agree with those who said that your diet really matters. That is SO TRUE. So you guys are basically saying that separate ab exercises are not necessary at all, right? Those crunches, leg lifts, etc etc... you don't need to do them? So why do so many fitness videos have ab exercises in them?
My goal is not to have visible 6 packs, but I do want a toned and a bit hard abs. I just don't want to be those skinny flabby girls, you know? What is your advice for me? No separate ab exercises at all?
Thanksssss xoxo

fitnessgirll - what do you mean it doesn't make any sense? I didn't ask him for any certification proof, but I've assumed that he was certified, since he had his own gym back in the States and had one here too.

trikki Hahahaha no problem *grrrr* Wait a minute, I'm a bit confused.. so was Melkor saying that lower/upper body workout was best for beginner/intermediate trainees who are pretty well experienced, and need to focus on specific muscle groups?? And it's better than a whole-body workout, because the latter may take more than an hour, thus making your body too exhausted to properly workout? |

melkor - oh yeah, I was lifting some heavy weights!! killed me ha. and yes, he didn't want me to rest for a long time. the resting periods were very very short (ex: sip of water). Right..... everything you do does something.... I agree.... I sent u 2 messages, please do check and reply!
amethystgirl - yes, I used to suffer from exercise mia, but I can definitely promise you that I've recovered from it. I've actually pretty much recovered from all of my eating disorders. |

littlesimongeorge - what's the "319lbs"?? Is that the max that you can lift or something??
man.... I'm so confused now.... I thought I "finally" met the right trainer and the right program/workout for my body. I'm really disappointed and sad... |

amesthystgirl - i thought i was dying. but here's the background info. my trainer created this extreme fat loss program that took him 10 years. it's was supposed to be like... a 3 month program, but since i had to leave for korea in like 3 weeks, he had no choice but to jump in to the very hardcore phases. he said that my body would ache alot. Voila, haha! I don't know... I've always thought that he was quite intelligent and he definitely knew what he was talking about. Maybe I've been "interpreting" him wrong here lol eeeeek!! I weigh 5 kgs lower than I was before (lost it in like 2 months?), but seriously.... I look sooooooo much fitter than before. Like it's more than 5 kgs that I've lost!
melkor - a woman can gain max of 20 lbs of muscles from the very beginning of her working out years?? That's it? That's like only 9 kgs! Oooohkayyy, so I looked at that chart thing :) and once again, it seems like I'm in the advanced level. && I do have quite a lot of strength for a woman Melkor, I think I might need to talk to you more specifically like through messaging. I'll tell you what kinds of exercises I've been doing recently with this trainer, and please do tell me what you think about the work outs and what's best for me!! |

Melkor - Thank you for the wonderful reply! I do understand what you're saying.. But like.... I don't think I'm a beginner or even intermediate.. Recently, I've changed my entire work out. I've never done deadlifts before, but I started using them and I would be lifting heaaaaaaaaaavy weights. Deadlifts usually take you a week to fully recover, and I could definitely see that, because my back was sore for almost a week. When I was focusing on each body workouts, I'd be sore for not just one or two days, but like 3-4 days. And when I work out, I work out until I can't even stand up or walk properly. I do it hardcore haha. That's how my private trainer taught me to work out, because, I mean.... you're seriously pushing your body u know? What do you think? Do you think I should still just stick to full body workouts?? |

Thanks for the input... But hmm... why shouldn't I split my workouts? I don't see what the negative side of it would be. I mean, wouldn't it actually be MORE EFFECTIVE because you're focusing on different body parts and are really kicking your ass? |

| The Lounge | Best Self-Tanners? | Aug 10 2009 08:57 (UTC) |

corduroyfirekills3 - what do you mean by doing it gradually???
sauvignon - I'm an asian myself :) but im not pale. i mean... some ppl say I am, but I don't think I am THAT pale. I'm definitely darker than the typical koreans lol. Unlike most koreans who try sooo hard to retain their pale skin, I like being tan!! Hmm... seems like the smell is the issue for the Jergens products... do they all smell the same??

coralbell - Do all of Jergen's products require you to apply it everyday for a week? And then after that week, how long will the bronze look stay on you? (You dont have to keep putting it on the next week, do u?) Yeah, I don't want my gel/cream to be lingering ON my body.... that feels like sunblock to me blahhhhh!! Hmmm... I'll check out the L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Gelee too! How do you put the self-tanner on you equally?? do you apply it pretty much all over your body or only on the places that people can see?? I'm not thinking about putting any on my face because my face is a little on the tanned side anyways lol. And after you finish putting it on... do you have to wait for some time before putting on clothes - in case the self-tanner stains your clothes? Does it ever stain your clothes normally? How long does the tanning last?

hayleymajayley - Oh thanks!!!! Today I went to the gym and worked out on my own (w/o trainer) and did REAL weight!!! Haha!! It was sad to see that the 20 kgs (44 lb-ish) that I used to lift for my chest were really difficult !!!!

danaofdoom - Maybe it's because I woke up at 4 am today, but let me get this straight.... so you're saying that a gallon of milk or a child is considered heavy weight??? And you're saying that a soup can is the lighter weight? Really sorry for sounding so dumb, but I read your post like 5 times very slowly........ but I didn't reach the "Ohhh!!!!" part.... *major sigh* |

sugarshocked - Ohhhh!!! My bad my bad, I'm not mildly obese, I'm mildly overweight haha! The good thing is.... I was mildly overweight up until several days ago. I'm at a healthy range now. Great.
So many ppl on CC have told me that heavy weights + lower reps is the best way. I thank all of you guys for shaking me out of my own delusions about bulking up!!!! |

hayleymajayley - 30 lbs total right? haha. The heaviest I lifted for my chest was around 45 lbs. (two 10 kg dumbells) ................. seems like I'll have to get going on that again. DONT WANT MY MUCLE TO DETERIORATE!! All the damn hard work.... hahahaha!
You know what... I haven't really counted the # of kcals burned since....... well, a long long time. I weigh about 159 lbs... how many calories do you think I burn for an hour of weight lifting?? If I insert my weight into my CC profile (i haven't changed my online weight forever haha
Really sorry if that sounded confusing! |
