The Lounge worst insult you ever got because of your weight.... Nov 08 2007

yahvinah-  Please dont cry hon, those people are nothing to you,.  They didnt give you another thought when you left the room, dont give them another thought either.

I'm sorry ladies (and gentlemen), many people suck.  I tend not to care what peole think, mostly I just find there comments to be an insight into thier small mindednest.  However I can think of a fewdigs that stuck a bit, several from my mom who I actually have a very good relationship with, she just likes to stick her foot in her mouth.  My favorite from her was when I gave her a few pairs of jeans that fit me fine but were styled wrong for my tastes. "We wear the same size?  God I have to lose weight."  -I've been bigger than her since I was 13.  (by the way, Im actually 5 lbs lighter than her now, yeah me.)

Then there was the lady who weighted me 6 weeks after giving birth who informed me that 169 was not that bad for just having a baby.  I politley recomended that she read people's pre-pregnancy weight before opening her mouth.  I was 168 when I got pregant.

My personal favorite was a girl at my husbands work who looked me up and down as if I were the most disgusting thing she'd ever seen and said "your James wife?"   Ah well. . as I say, people often suck.  See, here's the thing though.  Weight affects my health.  It does not define me.  I am intelligent, independent, fun and sexy, regardless of my weight.  Thats right, sexy is a state of mind ladies and only shallow people fail to recognize that.  Go forth and be better than that.

seshanno- I am sorry to hear that your having problems, and I know that right now its comforting to think of him as a jerk, however thats not fair and it's not helpful.  I hate having PCOS, why shouldn't he hate having a girlfriend with PCOS?  Its not just kids, really think about all the other fantastic problems we get too.  It's all just a bit to much, really.  I would suggest talking to him, find out which of our charming side effects concern him and seeing where you can go from there.  The internet makes it seem like a life of infertility followed by a death sentance, but it's not that bad.  The thing is, he might not be the one to understand, but ALL men are going to have to decide if they can deal or not, and you are going to have to decide how to handle the situation.  How would you feel if your boyfriend had Parkinson's or some other serious concern.  Its hard either way you look at it.  -Just incase he does pull anchor and shove off, it's also helpful to note how many of us, myself included and found a man who understands and takes us as we come, and who have been able to concieve.  Good luck.

Okay PCOS ladies, we need to get back to posting, who better than us to support each other.  jpandorra, 60lbs is so awsome.  How long has it taken?  I love a slow and steady weight loss, it seems so much more lasting, like Im making changes for good, not just some fluke of nature.  I'm down 10 lbs in about two and a half months, which Im pretty stoked about.  I bought size 12 jeans (down from a 14/16) and even though they are a little snug, I know they wont be for long.

Man- we have to be about the sexiest thread on this site.  So had to pluck some chin hairs today and had a great dream about going to a 4 course resturant that also provided 4 piece costumes (heh-it was a dream) My whole family was given form fitting elegant evening wear and I was given baggy hippie clothes with eleastic everywhere- you know because I am so fat. Ugh- See that's what I get for not going to the gym even once this week.  Im going to bury myself in work now and try not to jiggle to much ;)

Welcome- it's hard to get started, but it does get easier.  Besides, your health is worth a little adjustment.  I'ts helped me to make little goals with rewards for meeting them.  It can be weight lost, exersise levels acheived or an eating paln stuck to, whatever you need.  That way I don't have to look at the long term, just a series of short steps.  I can lose ten pounds but 40 seems duanting.  So I'll lose 10 lbs, four times.  (oh mwz- I look forward to saying I lost 40, good for you.)

nivy- I think it's natural to want to blame the weight on anything other than lack of effort.  I know I walk a fine line between cutting myself a little slack when I'm doing what I need to do and the weight still takes forever to come off, and when I'm not so great and I say, well it's harder, I have PCOS.  And without sounding like a public service announcement, admiting your scapgoating is a huge step.  Besides, you quit smoking-that's huge, and you sould be proud of yourself.  Thanks for the link.

Magaroonie - I almost choked on my low fat cheese stick when I read your post - and that's not very nice ;)  I know what you mean though, I used to be that way with my carb count, but really I figure if in losing about a pound or two a week I must be on track . . . or my gym is slowly recalibrating the scale. Great another thing to obsess over.  Thanks for the congrats, I'm working my booty off. . . I just hope my belly goes with it.

So just for the heck of it, here's a bit from the book, directly quoted.

Raspberry Coulis-Serve as a sauce over yogurt, sugar free ice cream, or anything else that could use a beautiful and tasty fruit sauce!

1 pint raspberries, fresh or unsweetened frozen, thawed

1 tablespoon lemon juice

2 tablespoons Splenda

This is a cinch.  Put everything in your blender of food processer and puree,  Pass the puree through a sieve to remove the seeds, if you like.  (It's not essential, though-the seeds are actually nutrious.) That's it!

10 servings

14 cals; trace fat; trace protien; 3g carbohydrates; 2 g fiber; 1 g usable carbs.

rtd, its funny because when I was a kid I used to wish I was special, I should have been more specific (hah-hah).  I'm feeling mush less sorry for myself today.  I lost another pound, and I really wasn't as dedicated as I could have been last week.  I didn't twinky out or anything, but I had a few to many carbs and missed two gym days.  So if Im really good this week I should be able to get below 165.  I'm 166 now at 5'3''.  Still I tell myself this is the smallest I've been in 3.5 years and I'm feeling good about that.  I went to look at books like I said I would and soory, I just could not take a PCOS book home.  They are so much more about the conditon and medication than eating, and that's where I need the most help.  But I did get the most fantastic book called Dana Carpender's Every Calorie Count's Cookbook.  She's a low carber who wrote a lower cal book.  The recipies are really healthy not all sat fat and red meat.  Plus she's a believer in eating as much natural food as possible and so the only fake foods she cooks with are splenda and poyols.  She also cooks with stevia, which I love.  I love the foods and she writes in a charming down home sort of way.

No, I've noticed that too.  I  adjust my serving size to equal the same amount of carbs ( I have to watch that even more that cals because of a medical thing), anyway that works for me.  So 1.2 sevings or whatever.  It throws the rest off but its close enough for me.  Of course you could manually log, but that takes even more time.  It so great that your excited.  I did weights for 30 mins and then cycled 11.5 miles this morning and I was not so diligent last week so I was feeling grumpy and tired.  Your cute  "woot" made me smile and remember being excited when I started a short month ago, thanks.  -Just to brag, I'm 166 today, down from 172 four weeks ago.  Yeah me. ;)

I think for me, and believe me I know this is so stupid - following a plan for PCOS makes me have to acknowledge the rest of the horrid things that go with the syndrome, and that scares me.  Plus I finally had a baby, after fertility treatment and so much work, so now I would love to just pretend I'm normal, which I know is also very stupid and risky.  My sister in law has the PCOS diet book though and Im going to suck it up and borrow tonight.  I'm also going to check out the other book and pick a way and stick to it.  See aren't we all proud of me?    Ugh-why can't I just be overweight and not have to deal with all this rest of this crap too?

I started to read the book but it seemed really complicated to me, either that or I was having a lazy day.  I have been thinking of giving the book a shot though.  I don't want all the health risks Im currently facing.  Oh, no wait it was the PCOS diet book I read, sorry.  I'll check into that one though.  The PCOS diet kept telling me I couldn't have coffee, and I'm sorry but you can take my bread and my cake, but leave me my fat free latte. ;(   As for protiens, egg whites, reduced fat cheese, natural PB is both a carb and a protein.  If you live near a trader joes, I get there just chicken which is a mildly processed chicken that I toss in salads.  I also eat a can of tuna a week-I have a pretty good recipe if you want it.  Hope that helps.  And thanks for the book tip.  By the way, how mauch are you ladies looking to lose.  I'm 5'3.  I started at 172 a few weeks ago and am down to 167.  I'm hoping to to lose ten at a time until I reach a size 8 or 130 ish, whichever feels better.  I dont really wnat to be thin, just fit and comfortable.

(blink and pony tail flip)-Yes Master

You may have your wish for no wishes, meaning you must wish again ('cause it's stil your turn you know) or forever halt this game and prevent hundreds, maybe even thousands of people from enjoying this nonsense. And if that happens we may actually have to get some work done (oh the horror). Just don't make the same wish or you'll end up in a truly visious cycle.

I wish I could get everything done in a day that I had to and still have time to do fun things and sleep 9 hours.

This is a fantastic link with concrete eqautions for calc. carb intake and etc, aimed at women with PCOS.

http://www.obgyn.net/pcos/pcos.asp?page=/pcos /articles/pcos_and_diet_mckittrick

Great for checking GI to keep away that sugar spike.  Very compleate, not in antiquated American measurements.  Sad for me.

http://www.glycemicindex.com/

Easier site for those of us in the states, just pick the mean measurements (you'll see).

http://www.gilisting.com

I checked my recomended carb intake through the first link and using the 20 % I was recommended to try and found that I should be having around 70 effective carbs a day.  I can do that ( I think).  Anyway I hope these links help ladies.

Okay, so honestly I have not read all the posts, but I would suggest that in addition to all the other thoughts, severly underweight etc... that at least some of you most likely have polysystic ovarian symdrome, PCOS, which sucks but not quite so much as the name indicates.  A gyno can run a simple blood test and let you know.  It causes amenorea and weight gain, esp. around the waist due to inlusin restistance.  There are other fun syptoms to, visibly you can grow facial hair or lose your head hair as well as have acne.  Really not fun, but manageable and relativly common.  Anyway it's important to get it checked.

I am so glad I found this thread.  I also have PCOS, I have not been diagnosed specifically with insulin restistance but I understand that most PCOS ladies are insulin resistant.  So I cut carbs in little steps, then when it doesn't feel like a distugsting sacrifice I make another cut.  This is how I did it so far.

Check all labels to get the most natural product you can.  For instance many products add starch (ohh the carbs), while thier competitors don't.  I've found hidden carbs in fish even.

If I must have it, have a tiny bit, make sure it's cooked perfectly and get the "wholest" version I can

Make my own soups/stews so I can have the flavor I want without the noodles.  Don't thicken soups.

No sugar in my coffee, tea etc...

No fake sugar, it causes to many cravings for me, besides they are horribly unhealthy.

Eat open faced sandwhiches with a thin slice of high fiber whole everything bread -you know the one, it's like 6.00 a loaf ;)

Laura Scudders P.B,  (i'm sure thier are other types but the poiint is) it is made with peanuts and salt.  No sugar, no hydroginated yuck.  So nummy, but please stir it then fridge or your feel like its different.

So that's where I am right now, I slightly less chunky version of myself.  And only here can one happily say that thanks to my carb sutting I have once agian joined the thousands of women who bemoan their time of the month.  But hey I guess it's okay when its actually your time of the year right?

I'd also love carb cutting ideas

So I have been 168, except when pregnant for four years.  I finally decided to lose some weight 'cause I'm only 5'3".  That was when I shockingly found that I was actually 172.  Ugh, so three weeks later I am 167 and can join this group, yeah me.  Except I'm really 169 today because I lost enough weight to start TTOM again (PCOS -starts cycling again when you lose weight).  So I guess yeah for me again?  Anyway enough about me, lets lose this weight and get to another group.
Weight Loss Need some perspective Jul 10 2007

So what Im seeing is that you are losing weight, getting stronger and probably feeling better.  Also you should note that you have lost more in your waist which increases the hour glass look and decreases your risk for a bunch of terrible things later in life.  Se you just increased your life expecatncy, how's that for perspective.  By the way, congrats, good work.

My husband and I started dating when we were 16.  We both weighed around 120-130.  Now, 12 years later he weighs 195, at 5'11', which should means he overweight, but no, he's ripped.  He goes to the gym all the time and is so hot it's annoying.  I'm 5'3' and 170 as of now (and not ripped, sad to say).  To make it even more fun, we live in a party town and he tends bar at one of the busiest in town, getting fit, barely 21 year olds offering to take him home all the time.  So, yes, I feel it sometimes, wanting to be as attractive as he is.  But then he looks at me and I know to him I am.  And other than my own, his opionion is the only one that matters.  He's happy I'm exersicing because it's another thing we can do together, not because he secretly thinks I'm fat.  Just remember that real relationships are based on connections, not pants size.
Weight Loss Ohmygosh, now I am nervous! Jun 22 2007

Please remember that weight and size are so relative to so many things, activity level, body type, breast size, muscle mass (muscle weighs more than fat) and genetic predispostion just to name a few.  After a certain point your body is healthy and you are not a risk for future helath problems.  That should be your goal.  To be able to be active and not at risk for future problems.  Females are suposed to have curves.  Women who lose to much weight are also at risk.  (My friend lost so much she stoped meses), not healthy for a female.  Also, I mean no disrespect, but just because somebody else has what may be an unhealthly weight goal for themself, does not mena you need too.  Of course as a previous poster suggested they may be smaller framed or shorter than you.  Just work at being healthy and comfortable in you body.  As for compeating with your sister, who cares.  Someone is always going to be thinner, smarter, better looking.  The only person you have to get better than is the person you are right now, and for most of us, that's hard enough.
