| Just started P90X on Monday. So far I like it. It's hard, but in a good way. The food is great. It just takes time to prep and make. DH and I love the meals. It's real food. And we're hardly ever hungry. I recommend trying it out. | |||

| Bonsfam- I feel your pain. Plateaus suck! Been riding mine since the beginning of the year. Ugggg.
Molly- congrats on your Alaskan Adventure. Sounds fun... I am jealous. Just got back from vacation myself. Nobody told me it would be 49 degrees in San Fransisco in JULY! Burrrrrrr. I'm a So Cal girl after all. But I do LOVE San Fran and wine country. Missed the earthquake here and apparently my office building had a bomb threat the day after. I missed the fun didn't I? Who needs to go on vacation for adventure? Gotta get back on track though. Cheese, Gelato, stuffed olives, bread, and wine....the five food groups.... nuff said. |

| I do that all the time. I get dressed, think I look great, then look at a picture later on. Big mistake. I always say "And I thought I looked good? What was I thinking?" Now in addition to my scale phobia, I have photo phobia. | |||

| Stellajo- Thanks for the tip on the Better than Peanut Butter. I was skeptical, as PB is one of my fav things and I have a hard time giving up EVERYTHING that I like. Anyway, I broke down and bought some the other day, put is on a Thomas' Light Multigrain English Muffin with some smashed banana, and I must say it wasn't bad. A smidge on the fruityish side, but overall a nice low calorie option to regular PB. I can shave 80 calories for 2 tbsp ( I bought the light PB before). My DH doesn't like it though, which is a good thing b/c I might actually get some of it when I want it.
Molly- Yay Yay Yay Yay for you and Ron. |

| Debcowan- I have a friend at work who is happily a DINK. She is a year older than I am and has adamantly decided not to have kids. About a 2-3 years ago, 10 or so ladies at work were all preggo at the same time. They all got anywhere from 2-6 months off work. She and I were like "what the heck, what about those of us who decide not to have a kid? Can we still take 2-6 months paid time off, just cuz." I know that people who have kids have to get up in the middle of the night and all, but it would be nice to have similar benefits and not have to get up in the middle of the night to feed a baby.
I don't have kids to watch, but I do get to work from home 3 days a week. I find I actually eat more while I'm in the office than when I am at home. |

| I'm a So Cal DINK. Can I be a part of the club too?
I am 36, been married for (almost) 5 years, and love being a DINK. I was 31 when I got married and thought "Oh now I can have kids" and then the more I thought about it, I'd think "Now why would I want to do that?". I am in a position where unlike some of you, I am closer to running out of time, but I am coming to terms with that. I agree that the best thing about being a DINK is the freedom to do what you want, when you want. My life feels full, I have a great DH, wonderful friends, a good job, my furbabies (a boxer puppy and a fat cat), a time for myself to travel, spend time with friends, workout, etc. I have friends who have kids and I can borrow them if I want to. Most of my close friends are either still single or don't have kids either, so I don't feel any peer pressure, except from my friends who have kid and my parents. :) I love to travel. It is my passion. I have been fortunate enough to travel quite a bit througout Europe, UK, Central America, Canada, Hawaii, and Mexico. Trying to get into hiking more. I like it, but don't do it enough. Going for a camping/hiking trip this weekend to Sequoia and am looking forward to it. I am 5'6", 169, lost 20 pounds over the past year. Actually have plateaued majorly since January 2008. Gain and lose the same pound over and over. Am getting very frustrated. Want some advice on what to do. How can I get down to 136? It seems to me that getting past 169 is pretty darned near impossible. Would love to have some more friends. I have been on CC for about a year. You can add me if you want, and I will add you too if you want. |

| Vacation plans- Camping in Sequoia this weekend. In July, we are going to Solvang, Paso Robles, San Fransisco, and Napa for a wine tasting road trip with friends to celebrate our 5th anniversary. Not to worry, I have a plan. Nothing in August yet, but thinking about a weekend getaway to Vegas or San Diego with girlfriends. Back to San Luis Obispo for my favorite uncle's bday in Sept.
Diet/fads- the starvation diet. Needless to say that didn't work for me Physical goals- boot camp. I took it once and I couldn't move for two days. I know it will get easier though, but I needed to kick it up a notch with working out. I also want to take two yoga classes a week, in addition to one strength class, two kickboxing classes, and two regular cardio sessions (hiking, treadmill, walking, elliptical). I work out a lot, but it really helps with my mood. |

| I can answer both QODs in one. For Fathers Day, we took my dad and mom out to Fuddruckers. I was in Hawaii for Mother's Day and my mom was in Las Vegas, so we didn't do anything then. We didn't see my in laws b/c they live in Arizona. Anyway, I ate a buffalo burger with mayo, ketchup, lettuce, tomato, relish, and cheese sauce. I also ate french fries with cheese sauce and ranch. It was GOO-OOOD. And I know I shouldn't have eaten it, but I don't regret it at all. Yum... |

| Weekly progress report
1)Drink at least 64 oz of water per day Made this goal 2)Take 2 yoga classes per week, 1 strength class per week, 4-5 cardio sessions per week to include kick boxing and boot camp. ( These are new and I need to change up my workouts) Did everything but the one boot camp. I didn't have directions until Sat. 3)Get 7-8 hours of sleep per night. (Been averaging about 5-6) I keep trying. Finding that I may sleep 7 hours with short breaks in between. The cat likes to sleep on my head and she snores and purrs really loud. I also drink a lot of water. 4)Eat one vegetarian meal per week. Yep 5)Drink alcohol only one day per week. (Except when I am on my winetasting vacation with DH and BFFs in late July) Did this too. 6)Eat 1200 to 1400 calories per day, except one day per week when I will eat maintainance calories. Nope. DH's bday, a wedding, and a baby shower in one weekend. 'Nuff said. 7)Keep fiber intake at least 25g per day and decrease sodium. Fiber yes, sodium no 8)Log my food. I have gotten a little lazy with this. Great during the week, not great over the weekend. |

| Yesterdays QOD-
Healthy- Seared Ahi Salad with wasabi vinagrette, small glass of wine Unhealthy- Escargot, french bread to sop up the buttery garlic sauce, Steak medium rare with crab meat, blue cheese, butter, grilled mushrooms and onions, gorgonzola garlic mashed potatoes, and asparagus with butter and garlic. (I love cheese butter and garlic, can you tell?) A really good cannoli, and a bottle of fab red wine. My most difficult challenge is eating breakfast (I am not a huge fan of breakfasty foods) and late night eating. Weekends can also be a hurdle too. |

| Yes I try to track my fiber. I go for about 25 g a day and usually get there. I intentionally look for higher fiber grains, like Thomas' Light MG english muffin (100 cal and 8 g fiber), mini fiber (80 cal and 12 g fiber) cakes from Trader Joes, whole wheat pasta, Ezekiel 4:9 bread, and multigran crackers. I usually eat oatmeal a couple of times a week. Try to eat fruits and veggies more.
As far as progress, I only set up my goals two days ago, so no progress report yet. |

| If you have ever had apple butter (yum), pumpkin butter is very similar only it tastes like pumpkin. I like it on my Thomas' light multigrain muffin. I have seen it in no sugar added varieties and it is also very tasty.
Favorite sweet snack- fresh fruit like strawberries, mango, pineapple. A more decadent snack is Dreyers no added sugar choc chip cookie dough ice cream with Smuckers sugar free caramel (1/2 cup ice cream and 1 tbsp caramel= 155 calories) I LOVE caramel and I swear I can't taste the difference, it is sooooooo good. The sugar free hot fudge is pretty tasty too if you are more into chocolate. Favorite non sweet snack- pita chips with roasted pepper hummus, pepper water crackers with laughing cow garlic and herb wedge |

| I have been checking this out for the past few days. I am an avid lurker/occasional poster on Molly's ranting thread, so I thought I would check it out. To be honest, I didn't start this earlier b/c I have been unwilling/unable to muster up the energy to make any goals regarding this journey of mine. I have been at a 5 month plateau and am frustrated beyond belief. I have also been having a personal, non weight related struggle and am just starting to feel better/more able to focus on what I need/want to do for my health and my body. And personally, writing it down for y'all to see will make me feel more accountable. So that said, my goals for the next 60 days are as follows...
1)Drink at least 64 oz of water per day 2)Take 2 yoga classes per week, 1 strength class per week, 4-5 cardio sessions per week to include kick boxing and boot camp. ( These are new and I need to change up my workouts) 3)Get 7-8 hours of sleep per night. (Been averaging about 5-6) 4)Eat one vegetarian meal per week. 5)Drink alcohol only one day per week. I have gotten a little lazy with this. I will only answer today's QOD. Cottage cheese= curdly blahness (unless it's mixed with something or has pineapple on it) |

| Seems like you got our rain from down here. Been raining the past two days intermittently. Not too bad here today. We are going to the Scottish Festival at the local fairgrounds and my DH wanted to make sure I was wearing sunscreen b/c I got burnt while on my trip to visit my BFF on Maui a couple of weeks ago, despite wearing 30 sunscreen. I don't think I will need it, b/c it isn't warm enough to not wear a hoodie and there are nasty and ominous looking clouds on the horizon. Weird and unheard of weather I tell you.
Molly- I do hope that the next couple of months go quick quick quick and before you know it, your DH will be back home with you and your kitty/doggie family. (And yes, I think mopey is a word. I use it all the time, so it must be, right?) |

| The reason that red, yellow, and orange peppers cost more is because I like them. Love asparagus and artichokes too. Also expensive. I feel sometimes that it is a conspiracy. If I like something, it's bound to be expensive. But summer is coming and there are more fruit and veggie choices, yeah. Going to try to check out the farmers markets in the area. Not many in So Cal.
Rant- Plateau. Nuff said! |

Babu- My DH wears 2-3 outfits in a day. Work clothes, gym clothes (when he goes), and then hanging out clothes/jammies. And he has to change his undies and socks each time. I don't do his laundry anymore. It was exhausting! But I must say you have him beat. If I were you, I wouldn't want to do my laundry either. Man, you have some drive and motivation to keep that schedule. Whew. |

Non Rant- Last week I was effected by the ATA close down. Last night, I finally got a return flight from Maui that wasn't going to put me and DH in the poor house. Yay. I could rant a lot about airfare gouging, etc. but I won't, I am just happy I got a flight home and can go and visit my friend. Spent the morning at the vet. Our Alley kitty is sick. She has an infection in her eye and she is wheezing horribly. Doc said she had a "kitty cold". We have antibiotics, decongestants, and eye drops for the poor thing. She is mad at me right now. When I brought her home, she hid and refuses to even look at me. She hates the vet. I have a friend at work who bought some Western Bagels at a local grocery store. I am very excited to try them. SHe likes them a lot. SHe follows WW and told me they are only 1 point. Gotta love it. |

| Non diet related rant alert-
Airlines who go belly up, freeze your airline ticket to Maui in May, and give you nooooooooo recourse. Ugh! What a pain. Now I have to write a dispute letter to the bank to get my money back (which they said shouldn't be a problem) and either try to find another one way ticket home from Maui (my friend paid for half my ticket and got the ticket from LA to Maui for me) for a reasonable price, or forgo my trip altogether. So far all the tix are $100 more than what I paid originally. Darn Darn Darn (stomps feet and has a small tantrum). On the bright side, at least I am not in the airport, stuck, with no way to get home and I can rant in the warmth and coziness of my home office instead of the cold uncomfy airport. |

| The Lounge | Do long-distance relationships ever work? | Apr 02 2008 23:56 (UTC) |
|
| I was involved with and later engaged to a guy from England. I live in So Cal, so that's very long distance. I met him on line and we got to know each other very well before I actually met him. We were engaged during our first meeting. For a year and a half we talked on the phone every day, sent gifts occasionally, emailed often and visited each other almost monthly. It wasn't typical, but we decided to do what we had to to make it work. And it did, for a while. We ultimately decided not to get married for many reasons, but none of them were related to trust or communication. I don't regret a bit of it. I had a great time and have great memories. I married the true love of my life, someone I had known most of my life, about a year later.
My best friend lives on Maui and is involved with someone on an exclusive basis who lives here in So Cal. She is from here originally, but moved to HI about 5 years ago. She met him here about a year and a half ago and they are still together. They talk every day and are commited to have a trusting relationship. They visit as often as they can and are talking marriage in the future. |

| Cat's are easier. We can leave our cat alone for a few days and she's fine. We always have to take the dog to my parents if we are going to be gone longer than 8 hours. Note I said cats are easier, not necessarily better. I think it depends on the type of pet you want. | |||

| I have mixed cottage cheese with marinara sauce or meat sauce and put it on whole wheat pasta. I know that sounds weird to some, but I like it. My mom used to make lasagna with cottage cheese instead of ricotta, so it was natural for me to make the change too. I feel that cottage cheese is better for me than lots of melted mozzarella, so there you have it. I imagine if it is good in pasta sauce, then it would be good in salsa or the like. | |||

But on a side note- I thought it was funny that you counted taking Minnie to the vet for a booster shot as exercise. If it is anything like getting my 15 pound cat into her carrier and taking her to the vet, I can understand why you would say it is exercise. It's down right exhausting! |

Molly- Happy Birthday early. I may be a bit laid up on Monday and may not get on the computer so... Happy Birdie two ewe Chris- I agree that you are not the only one in the house who can turn a key. I ask myself similar questions on a daily basis. I love DH but often wonder if he really did take care of himself while in the Marine Corp and for the 12 years he lived on his own before we were married, or if magic fairies flew in and did everything for him while he was at work. Cleaning fairies are different from weight fairies, or so I am told. Oh yeah- Molly, I tried the Amy's Shepherds Pie for lunch today. Yummage! |

| Molly had her cranky Molly alert a couple of weeks ago. Mine is today. Day starts out with an email from a relative of one of my previous clients (I am a social worker). Without getting too detailed, my adult client made a choice for herself that has alienated her from one half of her family. I didn't necessarily agree with this choice and tried to sway her from it, but she has the right to make it regardless. Anyway one of the relatives felt it necessary to email me and tell me what a horrible, rotten, insensitive, uncaring, and basically awful person I am and that it is my fault that the girl is in her current situation. She then had the gall to tell me that she prays every night that God will show me what a horribly rotten person I am and what a failure I am. This person has never even MET me and I know that she feels that she needs to blame someone, but I can't say that it didn't hurt my feelings. Especially because I would often come home in tears over this girl and what was happening in her family. DH was glad when the case was transferred because of what it did to me emotionally. Despite my initial desire to hurl virtual donuts at this person, I did not. Kill them with kindness, I say.
Now for that silly rant that has me fuming! Costco (don't sue, it's just a rant)! Why can't you just get things you want, the way you want it? Having my bday party on Sat night with my friend, who's bday is the day before. We do a joint thing every year with friends. She loves Costco chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting. I don't. I like carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Well Costco cakes are very inexpensive and good for what you pay. Her DH said that we should just get two cakes and we could send the rest home with guests or take them to the office on Monday. Fine. Well Costco adds an apricot mousse filling to their carrot cake and I don't like apricot mousse. So I typically get it with vanilla cheesecake filling (VCF) which I really like. Apparently they told my friend that I can only get a carrot cake with yucky apricot mousse and that's it. Well first of all, I know this isn't true because I have ordered it with the VCF before. My friend said "what if she is allergic to apricots?" They told her "guess she couldn't get that cake then". RUDE! I want to know if you give the option of putting VCF on a chocolate cake or a white cake, then why not a carrot cake? What really got me is that the apricot mousse is VCF with apricots and flavoring added to it! So just don't add the apricot!!!! Right???? Oh no! Won't do that. I know that it's just a cake and that one could say I shouldn't have it anyway, but COME ON! It is my bday and I was only going to have one piece. So much for customer service... |
