Ha, I have some AWESOME stuff for that... I rarely blow my hair dry. Actually, I only do it if I plan on having it straight. This being the case, my curly hair tends to poof, especially when it's humid, or I have neglected to keep up with my regular trimming. |

Oh yes, especially when I've actually taken the time to do something with it... |

I HATE it when you put on lip gloss, walk outside, have the wind blow at you, and suddenly your hair is stuck to your lips. Hate, hate, hate that. Annoying, and then you have lovely sticky hair... fabulous. |

Ha, ok, clearly I'm just coming at this from the wrong place here. Where I'm from, the police DO have more important things to do, but where I'm from is a college town, and where I live now is one of the biggest cities in the world. Crime actually happens pretty frequently in both places, so the police have plenty of things to worry about... Peaches - Sorry for leading you astray! ;) |

Even the darkest might be ok hun :) Glosses tend to not be opaque so it's not like it'll look exactly that color on your lips... |

So would I mooni, but I'd go to the school, the bus driver's boss and the school board. The police have more important things to be doing, in my opinion... |

Actually, after re-reading the article, I see that I misspoke when I said they were "filing suit." Though it's quite possible that they are, it doesn't say that in the article, it just says that they brought in the police to investigate so filing charges would have been more appropriate. I still think that was uncalled for given the information in that article, but as it's clear that that's not anywhere near a complete account, I won't comment on it anymore. |

I guess if something appeared on my card that I had thought I'd charged elsewhere... my first thought would be "Oops! I F*ked up!" not "WTH, the bank F*d up!" |

Ok, she seriously thought the charges were fraudulant? Wouldn't the point where they appear on your CC bill be where you CHECK to see what card you swiped? I don't mean you, I mean her. |

Original Post by augustnkate: Fair enough, but since the article isn't really addressing any of that, I'm not sure how anybody from outside the area would know it to take it into consideration... I made my comments based on what I read in that article, which suggested that she had been somewhat out of line in this instance, but did not give me the impression that she has a reputation for not handling situations well. If that's only half the story, I can see how the comments might come across as overly strong. |

Frankly, if the bus driver felt like it impeded her ability to get kids safely to and from school, she had every right to say "no cell phones allowed" while they were on the bus. 30 kids having 30 different conversations is distracting enough... I can understand that. I really don't think that that incident should have any bearing on this one or should be included in a chain of issues that makes it look as if her problems are escalating. Just my opinion. To those that say that you'd never put your kids on a bus under any circumstances... seriously? I rode the bus every single day to and from school since I was in 6th grade without managing to be so much as yelled at, let alone molested or beaten. My mom and dad didn't always have time to take me in the morning, and since they both worked, they couldn't pick me up when we got done around 3-3:30. I rode the bus to school every day from about 1st grade on, but in elementary school I even went to an after school program! *gasp!* We'd hang out at school with a couple of adult supervisors... we'd get a snack, could do homework or other activities, then mom or dad would pick us up when they got done with work. I turned out pretty ok... Actually, I was probably socialized much better than I would have been had my parents made every attempt to keep me from learning how to deal with situations on my own. To me, the article does not sound like she was beating the child. What I'm getting is that she swatted the kid on the backside once because of whatever the kid was doing. I seriously doubt that the next time she gets mad she's going to beat a kid. Should she have done this? No, but should the parents be filing suit over it? Absolutely not. Too many people don't teach their kids any manners at all, or they think everything their little angels do is funny and precocious. Then they get mad when other people get fed up.

Original Post by mulsum: Where do you live that all babysitters are apparently experienced and well versed/knowledgeable in child care? I was the favorite babysitter for several families in my neighborhood when I was a teenager... the only training I ever had was a day long course which also taught CPR and diaper changing. No, I never spanked those kids, but they were told to be on good behavior while the babysitter was there. If they didn't behave, you told the parents what happened when they got home and trusted that they would discipline as they saw fit... Parents don't get the luxury of dealing with kids only when they're on their best behavior. I wouldn't have questioned the parents' right to discipline their kids as they see fit, provided they aren't really injuring the child or causing lasting damage. |

I quit track my senior year of high school. (I've graduated college now) I actually wish I had quit sooner. It never was one of my favorite sports (I did cross country as well and loved that), and instead of track in the spring I was able to get more into theatre (rather than just doing the musical that year I was also able to be in the spring drama). So I actually appeared MORE well rounded and had more extracurricular activities because I quit track. Bottom line, if the kid doesn't want to do football his senior year, don't make him do it! Have you asked him if there are other activities he'd want to try? Not necessarily just school ones either, I had a friend who participated in a Big Brothers/Big Sisters-like thing his senior year in high school. Or maybe there's some other sport he'd like to try? My brother actually did quit football his junior year because he had to make a choice between football and varsity wrestling (they were different seasons, but coaches were worried about injury so he couldn't do both after soph year) Instead, he decided to go out for cross country because he knew a bunch of guys on the team and it kept him in shape for the wrestling season. You are right that quitting football just so he can sit at home every day when he would otherwise be in practice is probably not the best way to impress a college, but aren't most of his applications already filled out? Besides, if his heart's not in it, he'll just resent being forced to stay on the team. |
