Dear bump on a log who has been here 3+ years and still doesn't get what your job responsibilities entail,

Please stop studying for your CPA throughout your entire day when if I ask you a question I get a deer in headlights blank stare.  Also, as you have proven time and time again that you are dumber than a box of rocks and because you are currently on probation for fraud within your current job, I think it unwise for you to both attempt the CPA exam AND look for a new accounting job while hear at work. Also, thanks for making my job easier by REFUSING to ask questions and get help for your lack of understanding.  That REALLY helps you to look good come review time.

Dear manager with chronic halatosis,

Do you target me in meetings?  It seems as if you enjoy the grimace on my face as you make a point to both sit next to me and ask me pointed questions that take many words to explain.  I appreciate that the nauseousness I experience during this makes it difficult to eat, but this isn't exactly how I envisioned changing my eating habits...

Thanks!

Dear Bump on a Log,

You've really outdone yourself today.  Thank you for being a) dumb enough to print out your resume and cover letter @ work and b) too dumb to realize that you printed it to the copier up the hall.  I have really enjoyed reading how as a level 1 staff accountant (on probation I might add) you have still managed to perform financial models and provide information to our international network engineers when you audit east portion of the country.  I didn't realize that your job was ACTUALLY that of a senior manager in our department... Wonder what SHE does all day since you are doing all of these network optimization projects that she SHOULD be doing.  HMMM.  It was also nice of you to mention that you should be getting your CPA designation soon - as you just failed the first 2 parts a few weeks back.  Finally, I am especially happy that although you copied a very impressive person's resume, your true inability to construct sentences and your small grasp of grammar rules really shines through on your cover letter.  You have personally made my afternoon quite enjoyable...

Thanks again BOR!!!

Oh I almost forgot a recipe!  Winter squash rolls.  Really lovely soft rolls which are perfect for turkey sammitches and also make excellent cinnamon rolls when made with pumpkin.

I halve this recipe and end up with 12 good size rolls from it.  The recipe as written below would give you 24 rolls in my opinion.

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups cubed winter squash
  • 1 cup scalded milk
  • 2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 6 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). In a small saucepan, cover squash cubes with water. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain, cool and mash.
  2. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. In a large bowl, combine 5 cups flour, sugar and salt. Stir in the yeast mixture, shortening, squash and milk. Mix well. Stir in the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, beating well after each addition. When the dough has pulled together, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and supple, about 8 minutes. Lightly oil a large bowl, place the dough in the bowl and turn to coat with oil. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, about 1 hour.
  3. Divide the dough into twelve equal pieces and form into rounds. Place the rounds in a lightly greased 13x9 inch baking pan. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise until doubled in volume, about 30 minutes.
  4. Bake at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Those rolls sound EXCELLENT... wonders if it could be done with sweet potato as opposed to squash... HMMMMMMMMMMM

Unfortunately, no so I guess there are more than one of these poor souls out there.  His name is Robert, and we are totally convinced that he got the job because he is pretty.  He is more commonly  known as BOR (box of rocks).

Thanks Spiro - I always appreciate your sarcasm... I was being serious however... The creams to diminish their APPEARANCE do work, and I stated in my OP that I know that it doesn't make them go away... and if I had the luxury of MONTHS before VACA then the exercise, less body fat = less cellulite would totally be the route I would take but for now, I am going cosmetic with as much exercise as I can.

re: washing machine BWAHAHAHA (i've washed some loads THREE TIMES)

Your mother-in-law gives you carpet cleaning lessons (well, she would have done that anyway)

You have to wipe the dust off the TV to see the show.

Your wii doesn't "sense" the signal because there is too much dust on the receiver

when friends come over, they start CLEANING. :/

Wow - that sounds like my life....

You have a give away party just so that some of your clutter can LEAVE the house.

You have to trick your friends to help you come and clean... "oh, can you come help me paint?  oh dang - i didn't clear the room out...."

Your 3 year old walks into your newly clean room and asks  "what happened to all your STUFF"

I have to ask - how careful are you about portion sizes?  I ultimately had to buy a food scale because what I thought I was eating was very different than the actual weight/size, etc of the servings I was eating.  I found that I was eating two times a serving - which compared to what I had been eating was smaller, but still wasn't creating the deficit needed for weightloss.

Hope this helps...

Ok - so maybe i missed it in my hurried skim over the topic of this - but THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A ONE TIME OCCURRENCE!!!

My little 3 year old is HUNGRY in the AM - always has been.  I give him a fruit snack (not so healthy) and a skim milk mozzarella stick (pretty healthy) on the way out the door.  He then eats breakfast at school which consists of oatmeal (which he loves) or Honey Nut Cherrios (which he also loves).

I say all of that to say you might have been getting a glimpse into the diet of this child.  As for the lolli - whose to say that said toddler didn't grab that from some hiding place (my son learned to move his step stool he uses to brush his teeth to get into ALL KINDS OF GOODIES) and after a morning of fighting over which shirt, pants, shoes to wear she just didn't want the fight about the lolli?

I just think that you can't get a glimpse into how someone does or doesn't raise their child by a glance into their (1) mornings worth of nutrition.

Ludz... I'm not a parent but I was in your son's position many years ago.  I too lived in the moment and loved all those moments a little too much.  I got carried away at university and allowed my bad habits to override my limited common sense.

I was smart, but I was impulsive and didn't think things through well enough.  Ultimately... I was a bit young for university even though all my friends were the same age and doing well.  Part of my problem was that I never learned to study because I cruised through high school with good grades and never cracking a book...

I got what we in Canada call a "dean's vacation"!  I was crushed, but wouldn't let on to anyone that it bothered me.  But that september when all my friends went back to university I was miserable and cried and decided that I was going to do everything that I could to get back into school.  So I took the necessary credits elsewhere and got my butt back into university.  It took me 18 months but I did it.

Today I have a B.Sc and a M.Sc and I have a very, VERY good job.  After I got my M.Sc. I  turned down 2 offers for a Ph.D. because I wanted to get out in the world and work for a while.  Now after working for a number of years I am considering going back part-time to get a Ph.D.

It took getting kicked out of university for me to grow up.  While I know that this information doesn't make you feel any better about your son's choices... hopefully it will relieve some of your concern about his future.  Some of us learn the hard way... but the lesson's we learn are valuable and when my friends compare me to them now they say that I'm much more competent at dealing with life than they are... I learned how to fail and how to recover from failure... many of them never did.

Don't get to upset... this may be the way he learns to rebound from defeat.

Well said.  As a mom of an 18 year old who is at a crossroad in his own life, I have to believe that the bad decisions he makes now will be a lesson for his future choices.  I wake up in the am and go to bed in the pm with this in mind.  I can't mother him any longer - I have to allow him to make choices - whether good or bad, and be there to provide advice and insight before and after - BUT NOT FIX.

As a parent who chapperoned EVERY dance my kids had from 5th grade on, I think it depends on how you explain it to your kids and your behavior once there.  I let both my kids know that I would be there, and my goal was to ensure the safety of ALL the kids there - not just mine.  I would come, monitor the behavior of everyone there - if I saw something out of line, correct it etc.  Occasionally some of the older boys would ask me to dance (I think this was to irritate my son more than anything) but I would dance with the group and then let them start harassing each other once it was over.

I kept my eye on my own kids only to the point that I would have any other kid - and they never seemed to mind/resent my presence.

They did sort of gloss over the whole Carla/Joelle situation... But you could tell by their interaction that they are not close anymore - I think at one point they were asked if they had bridged the gap and they both said, oh yeah - we are ok - but I think it was an "I am doing ok by myself" kind of thing.

Bygones.

I didn't like Helen - I think it had alot to do with her voice - and her attitude... I do think she played the game well, she just kind of slid in under the radar while everyone was watching Mike and Tara battle it out, and disliking Ron, it kinda just worked out for her.

incidentally, most of my colours are very neutral, but i have a few walls (one in the entry, two living room, one MBR) that are olive green.  it's beautiful.  and it takes some of the pink out of the horrid plum-coloured carpet ;)

Some people will love the small splash of color as accents in the place. :) There is so much potential for different color schemes, ect. The paint job throughout wouldn't be a deal breaker for me at all.

Some people may actually dig the carpet. Laughing

I agree with the small splash of color - actually I don't really like neutral colors at all... All our walls in our current home were painted - and none neutrally (except the master bedrooom and I think it is just cause they hadn't gotten to it yet!).  Most of the colors are really warm - think butternut squash and pumpkin... somewhere between the two.  The bathrooms are painted in correlation to the tile colors - which is awesome.  That is how I knew my house was MY HOUSE - I didn't even have to PAINT - it coordinated with ALL my furniture and paintings.

Ah, I was done in well before the superbowl.. although that weekend couldn't have happened at a worse point in my backsliding! :)  I would have had to report a GAIN and that was before superbowl weekend.

I ate horribly Superbowl Sunday and weighed in against my better judgement on Monday - I was at 157.6.  It was enough to make me run to the gym yesterday morning at 5:15.

I weighed in again this morning - just to see if my efforts to rid of the water weight had helped and it apparently did... 155.4.. PHEW.

I am back - and if ANY OF YOU see me fall off the radar, feel free to PM me and tell me to get my rear in gear! Kiss

It is lose 20lbs by June... which is totally doable.  My goal is to be close by hubby's bday - since I am planning him a 40th birthday party (black tie affair - ultra swanky!) I really just want to concentrate on maintaining over the summer, so I HAVE to be at goal weight by June.

I bought NROLFW on Saturday and started reading it.  I am hoping that this will help me unlock the secrets to getting rid of the last poundage! :)  I am going to incorporate step one into my workout tonight and see how punishing it is!

Thanks Mahogany for listening to me rant... I am gonna open the group up a little later this week.  I will PM you once I have done it.  I will prob rename it to - see if there are others with 20lbs to lose.
