Foods Dannon or Yoplait? Jul 01 2008

I LOVE YOGURT!

Hah sorry about that. I'm not fond of light n' fit because its sooo artifical tasting and water-y texture. My favorite is probably Stoneyfield yogurt--higher cal (120 cal per container) but its really thick and creamy. I also enjoy archer farms (target's brand) for its thickness and unique flavors (yum, honey almond & blueberry pomegranite!) and its only 90 cal per container. Personally I'd rather enjoy a nice creamy yogurt with extra calories than something that is runny and chemical tasting.

Greek yogurt is really good too... expensive though. But it has about twice the protein and has a REALLY thick texture. Fage 0% greek yogurt is 80 calories per container. Its sour though--so if you like sweet yogurt then I would not reommend it.

Original is the best imo--it has the richest flavor. The garlic and herb is probably my least favorite, although still good. The french onion is slightly better.

Oh man, I love larabars in yogurt! Soo good. Cashew cookie is the best I've tried, so far. Apple pie is really good as well--cherrypie was waaay to sweet for me. Plus i'm not really a cherry person. Pecan pie was just, ehh.

Anywho, I recently found a small local grocery store that sells every flavor and I seriously bought everyone! They were about $1.25 a piece!! I can't wait to try them all :]

Hah, whatever... I oddly love mcdonalds. Their salads are so good for fast food salads... edmamane in a drive-thru?! (Plus being a vegetarian makes it easy to order w/o chicken). Mmmnn, I also love their fruit&yogurt parfeits... although sometimes the fruit can be kinda of bad. And the vanilla icecream cone is amazing for the "150 calories" (they always overpack, but I'm sneaky and always consider it as 150.. )

Ugh I just hate the smell of the fried items though.

There is a small semi-chain resturant in my hometown called Fuel Pizza which ACTUALLY serves healthy options (several at that!) My favorite is the veggie pizza on whole wheat crust. Its nice to be able to go out with friends and grab a (healthy) slice!

Honestly, Mcdonalds isn't too bad--as long as your ordering the right thing.

I think McD's has the best fast food salads... edammame AT a fast food place?? Seriously amazing! I'm as well, a hufe fan of the fruit and yogurt parfeit... SOO GOOD! Also the icecream cone is reduced fat--only like 150 cal, give or take.

Try Amy's veggie brgers. Especially the texas veggie burger has a sweet smokey taste... they are much more hearter (&better imo) than morningstar>> http://www.amys.com/products/category_view.ph p?prod_category=1 The texture is grainer but they are probaby the best Iv'e tried... I love them with a laughing cow wedge on a whole wheat bun!

For a more "meater" one try boca... for a variety of flavors try gardenburgers.

Also, the "chicken" patties are really good... especially the "breaded" ones.

Have you tried Vitamuffins? They are not too bad; kinda of 'diety' tasting though... fat free and only 100 calories per 2 oz. muffin (and they are REALLY filling). http://store.vitalicious.com/allnatblubra.htm l
Health & Support How do you know if a therapist is good? May 04 2008
14:44 (UTC)
Thearpists vary from person-to-person. If she's not working out for you then you should switch out.

My first therapist I HATED. She was in constant "therapy" mode and was not personable at all. She had an elitest type of attitude and I could not stand her. How can you be open to someone you can't stand?

My second was an inpatient eating disorder specialist. She was... okay. Just out of college. She was much more personable but she pushed things on me way to much. I would have some good sessions then others that were bad. I just could not connect with her.

After which, I decided to try a male therapist. My parents found me an older individual which I LOVE. He's very personable and not to "shovey." All of my grandparents died when I was young therefore that might be one reason why I enjoy talking to him so much...? I really enjoy seeing him (I'm moving back home from college in a week and tomorrow is my last appointment :[ )

Anywho I defintly think you should try switching so you can have the most effective therapy. Maybe even switching up the ages or gender? No offense to anyone, but I always get a very judgemental vibe from women therapist--or atleast the two I have had--men are much more passive, which I like.
Foods ideas for beans May 04 2008

Ahh I love beans.

My favorite is a "chickpea, tomato, and feta" salad. All you have to do is get a can of garbanzos, rinse them, then add cut cherry tomatoes, cucumber, and onion. Then add some balsamic vingarette and let it set for atleast 2hrs. Then when time to eat, top with feta and enjoy! So basic but good... I love it with trader joe's naan.

Beans are also great to add onto salads. I love piping hot red kidney beans with a little lowfat cheese on top with mixed veggies. You don't even need the dressing.

Also try edammame if you can. Really great in recipes or solo.

I added some almonds to my usual breakfast... for lunch I addded some reduced fat cheese as well (its amazing... fat free cheese tastes SO nasty now!)... I'm having a wheat-crust pizza for dinner... uh and two snacks for today (I used to never let myself snack).

Congrats on your acchievements! Even though its scary to do so, they really do feel good to reflect upon :]
Vegetarian Help me love tofu May 03 2008

I've just recently started experimenting with tofu.

I bought some low-sodium teryaki sauce and cut the tofu up and marinaded it overnight. I accidently froze it some of it, but that actually gave it a better texture when I cooked it (more "meaty" or chicken-like.... less squishy). I don't have access to an oven or stove (college student here!) so I put it in the microwave for 5 minutes and it came out really good! I think the key to tofu is the sauce. It seriously soaks up anything like a sponge.
Vegetarian How long have you been a vegetarian? WHY? May 03 2008

4.5 years now! I went from a slow transition. I gradually stopped eatting red meat, pork, then fish, and finally chicken. I took the final jump to vegetarian due to the fact that we got pet chickens (don't laugh!) and I could not imagine eating one of them. I've also always have been raised in a animal-loving household (I've always have had a crazy amount of pets... 10 cats, 5 dogs, but my families weak spot are for birds).

My sister recently went veggie as well! So I'm not the only one in my family now. My mom and dad could never go vegetarian but they both do try some meat-free meals now and then.

I just tried the chocolate fudge... really rich and dark... totally worth 60 calories! I also added half a bad of 100 cal oreos and a gummiworm to make a "dirt cup" (I used to eat these alll the time when I was younger!)
Foods oh Chipotle May 01 2008
02:23 (UTC)
Ahhh I love Chipotle. The only thing that is bothersome is how some employees will pile on the high calorie items (ie guacamole & cheese!) I always ask to have it in a side cup (for the salsa), therefore it limits the amount to only about 2tbsp. or so which really isn't too bad.

I always get the burrito bowl w/o rice, lettuce, black beans, tomato salsa, corn "salsa" (which really is just corn...) and guacamole. Which according to Chipotle Fan thats 390 cal; 10g fat. Really not bad at all.

I really love anything by Amy's (vegetarian here!). Some dishes can be more high-cal. compared to lean cusines/etc. But I like buying into foods than are not plaster with the term diet all over them.

My all time favorite is the teryaki bowl, 290 cal; 4g fat and really sweet, also the veggie loaf meal is really filling, but my most recent and favorite find is the burritos or pocket sandwich (mmmn the feta spinach one is TO DIE FOR!) then with a side salad.

I also enjoy Cedarlane and Seeds of Change. Oooh and Kashi.

I agree with the above. I try and make meals when I have time (weekends) but when your a full-time college student, its so hard! You have to result to frozen dinners. I try and mentally balance out the whole "too much salt" deal with not adding salt to existing meals... I'm still alive!

The cherry dark chocolate chewy ones are really good (and super chewy/fall apart easily!). I've read bad reviews about the peanut butter ones though... somewhere. Maybe it was just them?

I think I read somewhere han broccolini and regular broccoli are the same calorie-wise, but broccolini has more nutrients (--calcium?) I would just log it as reg. broccoli and don't stress it.

AMY'S... hands down best (&expensive) tv dinners. I'm currently on a quest of trying them all... I had the spinach feta pocket sandwich the other day and I must say it was BEYOND amazing. The teryaki bowl is still my favorite though.

how about using whole wheat flour mixes instead? It creates a hearter pancake. Here's a good recipe-- http://www.fitsugar.com/231544

Also top it with more nutritious toppings? I love sliced apples or banana with cinnamon and a few walnut pieces! Also blueberries are great topper with almond slivers.

Being a college student I cannot make pancakes, but I recently found nutrigrain's microwavable wheat pancakes. They are so good and dense... I love them!

I love the smell of fresh broccoli boiling... soo good. Ditto on the smell of yeast/bread cooking. Also the smell of vanilla and cinnamon (mmm vanilla yogurt w/cinnamon!) Oh and I love the smell of fruit when its beginning to go bad.. like bananas and strawberries--they smell so sweet and pungent.

I can't stand the smell of overly sweet things and grease though, I seriously want to puke when I get within 10 ft of Taco Bell (ugh my bus stop is RIGHT at a taco bell, I can't stand it!!)
Weight Gain Gaining weigh-ins!! Apr 22 2008

I gained two pounds in one week! I finally reached out of the 80lbs (90.2!)

I'm excited, I HATED being in the 80's... now my goal is 95, then 100, 105, and so on. I really do want to get healthy again.

Nuts & startches have helped me. I'll add a tablespoon of almonds, walnuts, etc. on my meals (yum, I just had whole wheat pancakes with walnuts and sliced apples, so good! or I'll snack on crackers with laughing cow chesses and veggies)--they really do add up over time.

I've also tried "treating" myself and just trying to careless about the calories, etc. I'm eating pretty healthy in my opinion. I can't wait to fit back into some of my old clothes :]
Foods i love peanutbutter, but.. Apr 21 2008

My cafeteria has a basket full of regular peanut butter, but in tiny indivdual packets (1 tbsp.) so portion control is a breeze that way. I have no clue how you can get ahold of something like that though.

ALSO, luna nutz over chocolate protein bars are a great way to get a pb fix.

Ask for the lunch portion instead of dinner... that way it will automatically cut down on the portions.

Personally, I would go with a starter of minestone soup (low calorie) then with the pasta or a salad (ask for dressing on the side).
