*I'm too stressed (working out would help, though!)

*Family/friends are visiting and I don't want them to have to cut-back or feel guilty that I'm not eating the same thing.

I've got a number of others, these are the two I have been using lately.  Ugh.

Thanks, Sheila - I posted this in the Lounge when I realized I was asking a question in the wrong location.  I was told me the same thing there...only I didn't realize I should submit 3 names.  Going to email again...thanks!

Thanks!  Thought it was just a user controlled option - I can see why that would be an issue, though.

How do you change your user name?  I just realized the same thing and I am using my real name for my account!

Thanks.

Thanks!  I never even thought about the food allergy....doh!  I do have to be careful about what I eat due to IBS and "trigger" foods.  Maybe something I am eating is ok with the tummy, but not elsewhere :)

Thanks all for the responses.  I already have a generic Flonase spray and I should use it every day, I just hate that it is a steroid.  I have been to the doctor so many times about this, I am just a little frustrated!

Just curious if anyone had that magic remedy from their own sinus issues!  LOL

Thanks Claire - that is definitely good to know.  I just read another post about someone becoming more sensitive to cold weather and not being able to warm up easily...I have been experiencing the same thing with restricting my calories to lose weight.  Of course, that is more of an insulation thing!

Health & Support Feeling Sorry For Myself... Jan 10 2009
02:51 (UTC)

I have two sisters and several aunts that suffer from the same thing...I know what they have gone through and I'm so sorry you've recently been diagnosed.

I'm the type of person that always looks for the silver lining even in the worst of times - or I at least try to remember to.  Think of this - at least you now KNOW why your hair is thinning and why you are constantly tired instead of never-ending blood tests with no results.  Unfortunately, the waiting game with the doctor doesn't help, I am sure.

I have been making myself write down three things I'm thankful for every night before going to bed.  Not only does it get my mind to reflect on positive thoughts before going to sleep, it helps me remember that even at my worst, there are good things in my life.  This little practice helps me get through those days when nothing seems to go right...so does a little pampering :)

It's ok to moan, but remember to keep your chin up and look forward to a turn-around soon :)

Deem - that was the lotion I was trying to remember the name of....Aquaphor!  Other than olive oil, it has been the best lotion for my cracked hands.  I actually need more - my hands are so bad this year for some reason.  Thanks!

Two adopted dogs - we kept their names...a boxer-mix named Roscoe (who is afraid of his own shadow!  lol) and Doyle, she is a chow-mix that leaps like a deer!

3 cats - Pudge (I think he ran off to join the circus, though)...and Comet and Daisy - both females and all came from the same litter of a feral cat in town.

And I agree with the naming of fish - both my Beta's died shortly after I settled on names for them.  Haven't wanted another since!

I do the same thing!  People I eat lunch with are all comatose from eating so much and I'm whisking around the office with my cold hands...lol  They look at me funny and a few have started to ask about my declining of packaged snack cakes, etc.  Like they cannot quote figure out why someone would want to eat healthier!

I drink a 32 ounce nalgene bottle of water at lunch.  I usually start before eating and finish it off after the food is gone.  I sometimes chill it prior to drinking, but not always.

I do know that when I cut back on calories (I've been shooting for 1500 give or take 500 every day) to lose weight, it seems it's easier for me to get cold.  But I eat mini meals - about 5-6 a day - and try to balance out the calories between those meals (ie - breakfast is NOT 500 calories and dinner 150, etc.)  I just noticed the cold hands thing and no one else at work notices the same thing, so I wondered if it was an oddity.

Keep in mind, I don't work with the most observant or health-conscience of people, though!  LOL

No, not blueish and they don't even hurt.  It's so weird, they just get cold quickly after eating...and I'm normally a hot natured person!  I've already warmed up enough since lunch to turn the fan back on in my office!

I often have to apply lotion several times a day in the winter, but always at night before bed helps.  I like most of the lotions labeled for "cracked, winter hands" - I think Curel is what I have on my night stand.  I get cracks in the skin of my index fingers and they are painful.

You might could try warming your hands in water, sloughing off the dried bits with a made or purchased scrub, and massaging olive oil into them.  I do this at the worst of times.

Good luck!

Ooooooh, funny you should ask!  I was just planning a Friday night feast for one!

I'm making brown rice pilaf (from scratch) with a tsp of olive oil and roasted pumpkin seeds with fresh garlic and chopped cilantro.  Maybe even a dash of lime juice.  Also, steamed broccoli and sauteed kale.

Oh, and hot tea :)

Is it dinner time yet?  LOL

I eat loads of fresh fruit and veggies - particularly blueberries and asparagus.  Not sure if it's placebo, but they always seem to help me.  But even then, what the body wants, the body gets - and if it's temporary water retention at TTOTM, it's gonna happen for me.

I've never tried herbal teas or meds like Midol, but I have friends that swear by them.  I prefer not to...and just give over to Mother Nature!

I love cooking the red ones and mixing in risotto or mashed potatoes!  They are also great pureed as a dip for raw veggies (kinda like a hummus without fat!)

The green ones are great for dahl - just boil until mushy and add your favorite spices!  I stick to the curry :)

Recipes Chicken breast with....? Jan 08 2009

I recently dicovered a blend of herbs called Herbes de Provence...I think I found it at Trader Joes or Whole Foods, not sure.  But it has thyme, majoram, lavender, and a few other herbs in it and it seems to make chicken breasts MELT in my mouth!  I swear by it for roasting, baking, and making chicken soup.

I usually use a sparing amount of olive oil and rub the chicken and sprinkle the herb mix and garlic, salt, and pepper and bake it.  Gordon Ramsey always says, season more, cook less (I think he means don't OVER cook b/c I will not eat raw chicken...LOL)

I love Kale!  I wash it, chop it up, sautee it in low sodium chicken broth and then when it is done, splash a bit of cider vinegar on it - flavor explosion!

Recipes stuff to do with cans and cans and cans of chickpeas? Jan 08 2009

I've actually pureed the chickpeas and added low-sodium chicken broth, curry, garlic and other various spices and herbs depending on my mood and used it as a topping for roasted/baked chicken, baked potatoes, broccoli - you get the idea - just to try it differently.

You could make vegetarian burgers - instead of using black beans, make chickpea burgers.  Or, simply sprinkle them on salad (my fav).  Or make a vegetable and bean soup.  They can substitute for just about any other bean in a recipe - you just get a slightly different taste.

Enjoy the endless possibilities!  Foodnetwork and Allrecipes probably have great ideas, too.

Weight Loss Gained 1.1lbs going to cry..... Jan 08 2009

How long have you been working out?  You may be gaining muscle as you lose fat - and muscle weighs more pound for pound than fat.

I've been told by my doctor that the more water you drink, the less you retain as your body flushes salts and toxins out...so I'm not sure about the retention question.

Another thought is this - your body will naturally fluctuate - if Wii said you had gained 10 pounds since your last visit, I would freak out...but 1.1 pounds may simply be a natural body fluctuation.  Even if you do everything you are supposed to by the book, your body is still YOUR body, and will lose weight according to how your body is naturally going to lose weight!

Miss - I think it will depend on what your state laws are.  However, I was jointly enrolled in high school and took three classes that counted for my final GPA in undergrad.  If you were given college credit, I would think yes!

I use Cetaphyl Facial Lotion with SPF 15 EVERY day...but the trick is to make sure you also lotion your neck!  It gets just as much sun as your face when you are out and about unless you wear turtlenecks all year long :)

Also, I remove my makeup with baby oil (non-scented) and it makes for a great nighttime moisturizer!

Also, I have issues with dry hands (I work outside alot!), so I often scrub with a sugar and olive oil mixture after warming my hands in warm water - it works great.  Apply more oil or lotion afterwards!

For dry feet, I rub with oil or lotion and put on cotton socks before bed!

Don't forget to drink tons of water!
