Fitness NROLFW Group Dec 01 2008

Hi Everyone,

Is this group still open (sorry I didn't read through all the posts yet)? I was almost done with Stage 1 but work got crazy and I had an entire month off from the gym :-( I think I may add an extra A and B workout depending on how I feel. My first day back was last Monday and I actually didn't do too bad.

Anyways, I'm excited to be back in the gym again and hear how everyone has been doing with NROLFW.

***EDIT*** found the group!

aaaaah i'm one of those people that fell off the face of the planet! haha.  umm i took 2 weeks off from the gym...1 week i had a lot of dental work done and was hurting the whole week.  the second week...well, that was pure laziness.

i went back yesterday and it felt great.  i was afraid i wouldn't be able to lift as much as before but i even upped my weights and could still do it!

anyways, i apologize for hiding for a while.  hopefully the group isn't dead yet!

hey everyone!  i wanted to know if anyone had upped their calories to the actual recommended calories??  i think karozel said she did, but i think most of us are scared to gain weight.

i know i started eating more, but i've been lazy with calorie counting lately so i'm not sure i'm all the way up to the 1900/2100 calories......it still sounds scary!

do you always weigh yourself at night?? i always weigh-in in the morning and i don't dare stepping on the scale at night!  when i used to do that, i could see myself fluctuating up to 5 pounds in one day!

please be careful with the calorie cutting!  you're having a stressed out time and need the energy to keep up.

Hey everyone!  I made it to my Monday workout yesterday, and that's always the hardest to get to!

Umm...that's all I got!

my gym has 2.5 increments as well...but once you get to 15 pounds, it ups to 5 pound increments.  the move from 15 pound to 20 pound dumbbells on the shoulder press was killer!

my boyfriend has a dumbbell at home that he can add weight to...so i guess depending on what increments are available, you would be able to keep progressing with 2.5 pounds until the dumbbell runs out of room.

Yeah, I'm trying to focus on that good feeling I have afterwards.  And I also have the goal of fitting into nicer clothes!!  Just yesterday I received some pants in the mail that I bought intentionally 1 size smaller than I normally would (plus I usually never buy clothes online because I HAVE to see how I look in them).  I can fit into the pants now but they're pretty tight.  I noticed that I thought to myself "soon" I'll look great in these pants...where before I would think I'll "eventually" lose weight.  So I'm actually proud of myself for feeling more optimistic about me looking better and knowing that it will happen "soon" and not "eventually" off in the future.

I really need to switch my gym visits to a HAVE to go.  Right now I go to the gym MWF...but I think I add it up in my head like "I'll go to the gym 3 times this week."  But I don't commit to actually going and save it till the end of the week, and obviously I can't cram my 3 workouts into 1!  I know I've said it before lots of times, but I need to get to the gym daily and make it a daily habit.

Anyways, just some thoughts.  I hope everyone's doing great!

What an awesome motivator!!  I've thought about this too...returning home for the holidays looking awesome.  My family's not really openly critical but I KNOW how they can gossip!  If my family could give me a compliment, I think I will have accomplished a lot.

Post up before and after pictures with the jeans!!!

I think what you need to do is feel like you're sticking your chest out and your butt so you get your lower back curving the correct way, towards your stomach.  Throughout the book it talks about the "natural curve" of your back.  I would suggest like the previous poster, to do the exercise without any weight and hopefully in front of a mirror so you can see what's going on.

The hardest thing for me is lowering the bar back down without hurting myself.  Try to do the same move you did while picking up the bar, just in reverse.

I'm at 126, been there for a few days (up from 124.8).  I'm not sure if it's because I've been eating bad or because I'm gaining muscle.  I haven't been religiously counting calories like I used to be so I think I need to get back on top of that.

What do you guys do to motivate yourself to workout??  I had to FORCE myself to the gym yesterday and I didn't make it Monday.  I've been really blaaaah lately and even though I know I always feel really good after going to the gym, I've been really lacking the motivation.

well actually...i'm in the middle of stage 1.  i've added an extra workout at each tier of reps/sets...so instead of doing 2 reps of 15 of workout A 2 times...i'm doing it 3 times.  that sounds really confusing, but basically i'm adding in extra A/B workouts because i was new to lifting and didn't want to get too crazy.  also, on 2 separate occasions i had a week off because i didn't have time/motivation to go to the gym. annnd i only work out 3 times a week because of my schedule. i'm sure this sounds really disappointing to everyone haha.

moving on...i have been eating more and having a protein shake after every workout.  i haven't lost any weight (i go up and down within 2 pounds) but as i said, i've been eating more.  my body measurements have gone down but really slowly...this is probably from the gaps i've had in my workouts and i bet i would have seen a more significant improvement if i didn't have any breaks.

i don't have an awesome success story (yet!) but i do feel great and have a lot more energy throughout the day.

hey everyone!  i haven't read through all the posts yet but if you're talking about NRLFW, i want in!  i've been following the exercise program for about 6 weeks now (i'll have to check my logs). i love it and it's way more interesting than running for hours at a time.

Nooo, I'm 5'2" and I do look like I need to lose weight.  I read all the other 5'2" threads and everyone on there are like less than 110 and wearing size 3 in pants (and still trying to lose weight!).  Although now I'm all about looking better and feeling better, not so much the number on the scale.  I still sometimes wish I looked anorexic but then I remember I'd rather be strong and tough than frail and weak.

How's everything going with your school schedule?  Why did you decide to stop zig-zagging, I thought it was working so well for you!  I still want to try it, I just haven't gotten around to planning it out yet.  I do eat more on the days I work out but I'm not sure it's enough to be classified as zig-zagging.

Laura, when is your wedding date?  I was thinking about setting up like mini goals for you like, "lose 5 pounds in X weeks"  What do you think?

woo!  i'm excited about hopping back on the wagon too!!  i went to the gym last night and went grocery shopping so i'm all stocked up with good food.  i'll have to try that tomato and onion flavored tuna though!

i weighed in at 124.8 today, it's what my scale's been stuck at for like a week but at least it's not going up! (starting weight:125)

Hey girls, just checking in really fast.

Catherine:  what website for the recipes??

Stacey:  I'm sorry but I don't have anything much more to add to what Laura said about packing meals and planning them out (even dinner time!!).  I'm out of school now and I can't imagine being on a diet during school.  I ate sooo bad during that time.

Laura:  Have you added up the average calories that you get for one day on your 11-day diet??  It seems like it wouldn't be enough but I don't have all the details.

Well I've been out of the gym for about a week and a half :-(  I'm going TONIGHT though.

That's cool with me.

I'm sorry to hear you went through a rough patch Frown but it's good that you're getting back on it (it hasn't really been THAT long of an absence!).

I'm nowhere close to the 15-20 pound goal hehe but I'm just trying to work out as much as I can to try and LOOK like I lost weight, and feel good about myself.

Fitness Heart Rate Monitor w/ Calorie Counter Sep 12 2008

Hmm, that's weird it took a second to register your heart rate and gave a reading of zero.  Make sure all your stats are input correctly.  Also, read up on setting the "Ownzone" heart rate zones.  It's recommended that you go through that exercise every time you workout (it take only 5 minutes to set it).

I don't understand why the HRM has to be compatible with the machines...can't you just look at the wrist strap for your readings?  I'm thinking that maybe your HRM is getting messed up from the different machines you're on or from other HRM in the room.  There is a way to "code" your HRM so it is not influenced (or lessens the influence) by other devices.

Let us know how it goes!  I really like my F6.  Oh and I turn the alarms off too.

Just checking in for my weekly weigh in...

124.8!  Haha, I started at 125 and I've been pretty much stuck there.  However, I would like to list the reasons I'm still happy about this weight:

1. Yesterday was a high calorie day (work out day)

2. I worked out yesterday so my muscles should be retaining more water while they repair

3. My weekend was less than perfect but I've seemed to miraculously maintain

4. I weighed myself while brushing my teeth...that's gotta be like, what? An extra 2 pounds or so?? :-P

I'll have to think of some goals for you Stacey and check back later!

well, i know how it is because i get busy/demotivated and then don't talk a lot on the forum.  i bet everyone's just busy.

i was also thinking that our group must be hard to stay in because we didn't start out with any formal goals.  like some groups have a timeline but we're just like 15-20 pounds...whenever!  it is kind of nice being flexible though.  for example, my goals have changed since i entered the group.  it's not about losing 15 pounds to me, but LOOKING like a lost 15 pounds (b/c of more weight lifting opposed to cardio).  so, i like our openness but it might not have been what everyone was looking for.  i think we should just wait it out and continue talking on this thread in case anyone else wants to come back to it.

to continue...sooo i went to a wedding this weekend and drank A LOT haha.  but!  i was showing my boyfriend how i feel like my love handles on the back side have decreased.  and he agreed and said i have more back definition now.  i was super excited (even though of course he'll agree with me!!) and it's definitely going to be my main motivation now.  the scale hasn't moved, but i'm feeling better and looking better.  (the part i'm talking about is like the circumference right below my belly button, so it's hard to measure and have real numbers but it FEELS smaller)  also, i did not start zig-zagging yet because drinking made me feel sick for a couple days and i didn't get around to planning it out.  next week!

Hey guys,

I'm sorry to hear that some people aren't doing so well...I'm not doing so well, scale-wise but I do feel pretty good.  It's fun lifting weights because I can see progress really quickly.  I lift more and more weight each time I go.

I'm at 125 again this week (my starting weight as well).  I do feel better but since I want to see the numbers on the scale move just a bit...I'm going to start zig-zagging come Monday and see how that works for me.  I plan on sticking with it for 3 full weeks so I'll be able to see if it's doing anything for me.

I think I will give zig-zagging a shot.  I haven't lost any weight since we started!!  I went down 2 pounds...then went up ~4, and now i'm back down to 125.  I'm doing more lifting than cardio (lifting on a regular basis right now and cardio in random spurts) so I know I'm not going to be losing much on the scale...but I still want a jump start on weight loss so I can at least be motivated about something!

This weekend I'm going to a wedding so I'll give it an honest start come Monday.

I have not checked my HRM yet but I have not forgotten!

i bought this heart rate monitor... http://www.amazon.com/Polar-Womens-Heart-Moni tor-Watch/dp/B000WPCMMM/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UT F8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1219707546&am p;sr=8-2

sorry for the long link.  and yes, it is expensive!  but it's one of the best ones out there.  i've read posts of people buying cheap ones and the monitors were useless.

hmm i wear it whenever i go to the gym but all i've been doing is lifting, so that probably doesn't match up with what CC says.  i think i have a 20 min jogging session logged.  when i get home i'll look it up and see if it matches with CC.

stacey - could you explain your zig zagging again?  i don't know much about it.  i think before you said that you look at how many calories you want to eat per week, then divide up the calories per day with some days being high and some being low.  i might consider following in your foot steps but it seems like a lot of planning!
