mutterlover, someone has already suggested that to me and i take it quite well to heart. it's just my mom gets mad when i freeze things or stick them in the fridge.. i realize that i also eat out of shame, because whenever i bake my mother only stops to criticize and insult, yet baking helps me relieve my stress. too much psychological crap? should i just take this to my psychologist already? i just baked some vegan cookies and i ate maybe three of them? compared to my usual binging, it's not a lot.. so right now i'm going to take a bike run and see how i feel. |

Positivelinny, thank you for your support. I realize that 110 may not seem like much for my age, but it is a great difference from where I was a couple of months ago. All the weight I did gain was from excessive binging, so it was unreasonable weight. muttlover, I daresay you are a lifesaver! I checked that link out and I found it startling as to how I really might need more iron. I get fatigued very easily (fall asleep in almost all my classes), get dizzy often, depressed, and apathetic (though I'm seeing a psychologist for the latter two). I will definitely look into this; thanks!

Yikes, same here. A couple of days ago I bought a box of Luna bars and finished them all in one day.. same would go for Clif bars. I'd recommend not buying them until you can control your diet, which is what I'm doing. I'm a binge-eater, so Clif and Luna bars are on hold for me ;/ I just eat cereal for breakfast now :x GL with that Clif bar thing. =X |

Yes, whey is derived from milk and is considered dairy. It is vegetarian safe. If you were a vegan, the whey and honey would be a deterrent. |

| Vegetarian | I want to become vegan! but... | Nov 05 2007 13:39 (UTC) |

Making the transition into veganism not only means avoiding certain foods, it also means eating foods you may have never eaten before, or dislike. I'd recommend you to start eating more fruits because they provide a lot of nutrients, vitamins, and can be a nice source of fiber. If you want to become a stalwart vegan, I'd recommend looking up a list of ingredients you cannot consume, like undefined glycerin, gelatin, and etc. Certain sugars are nonvegan because they are processed in a bone char. Anything with honey is off-limits, and so on and so forth. The whole looking up what you can and cannot eat is one thing, but planning what you eat is another, and it is more so important to understand this. As a vegan, you have to know what to eat in order to meed your daily needs. Protein intake should vary from 40 - 50 grams, while fiber should vary from 30 - 40 grams. Protein would mainly come from beans, tofu, faux-meats, soy products, and some vegetables and fruits. Fiber would come from beans, grains, fruits, and vegetables. It's important to keep your diet in check once you become a vegan. No lean meats :/ |

i know where you're coming from, wooooooooooooo. you really don't choose to have an ED. things like that just aren't up to you, and they require a lot of effort and determination to overcome. it's nothing i'd want to wish upon anyone. well, at the beginning of this year, i was eating 600 - 900 calories a day. after a couple of months, however, i upped my intake to around 1300 - 1600, just to maintain my body and life and whatnot. as of late, however, and i mean the summer, i've been binging like crazy. i've had a binging problem since i went vegan/vegetarian, but this time it's gone out of control. i've gained 10 pounds since those frequent binges, and just two days ago i ate over 3000 calories not because i was hungry, but because i was upset and bored. i saw a psychologist two days ago, but i'm still binging.. today is a new day, but i don't know how well i'll fare. i don't know. i'd really like some help regarding this. it gets painful sometimes, physically, and i mean it. |

I still crave many unvegan foods to this day, but I remind myself of the inevitable and grotesque, bitter taste I would get if I ever conceded. Plus, the oil and excess use of sauces and spices deter me. Still going strong, but I think our taste buds adjust.. haven't you ever experienced that phenomenon where you start to like vegetarian/vegan foods that you didn't like before? |

| do not purge: its not really a matter of discipline.. believe me, ive
tried, and even though i cant throw up voluntarily at all, its painful
and does more harm to your body than good. why have you binged this week? i can only hope you can find a new hobby or distraction.. perhaps plan some hikes or outgoins with your friends and/or family? since i dont know why, id only advise you to keep away from foods, and to only eat what you prepack for yourself. for example, for lunch i dont eat anything out of the container of food i prepare, and when i get hungry, i use my handy dandy waterbottle and gulp down a few gulps. like ive said before, remember yourself in this, and what your goal is, and dont be so hard on yourself! even when you binge or fall, just get right back up and restart your diet asap. or, as someone mentioned earlier, plan a binge day weekly, because we're all making progress and dealing with struggles. maybe that can give you something to look forward to and give you more control. we're all trying here, and so id wish you didnt feel so bad. you can do this! |

| have you gained muscle? do you see changes in your body? sometimes the
scale isnt the friendliest: if you see changes and your measurements
have changed, or if youve gained muscle, then those are more important
factors than the scale. or, perhaps, youve hit a plateau. in that case, you should change your exercise routine (medium, heavy, medium, light, etc.) and fluctuate your calories. i dont have much knowledge in this, but please, dont feel so discouraged! youre making great progress, and two months is a long way to come by. i hope someone else comes along and gives you better advice =) dont give up! |

| are you stressed or anything? we all binge for a number of reasons.. i
binge when im depressed, stressed, or bored, and others for other
reasons. i can only hope and advise you to find the root of the cause
of your binging and try tackling it with other activities. i know its a
common piece of advice, but it works and its the simplest. and try not
to be so hard on yourself; we're all growing and trying our best. do you binge on what you make or "buy"? perhaps you could make a pact to only buy things to eat from a certain "healthy" store, or eat only what you make (better if youre a very bad cook or take a long time to cook). im not sure how you can get rid of that weight.. just start eating normally and healthily as soon as you can, even if it is after a binge! it is always best to get right back up after you fall. if youre concerned about how you look on camera, see if you can wear some darker colors? i wish you the best :x |

| ive never exactly been an anorexic, but for a period of time i ate
under 1300 calories.. but i stopped. i dont have enough knowledge of
this to appropriately give you any pointers, but i can try. when i tried to get out of that period of time i just ate normally.. granted i think my weight shot up a bit, but it gradually went to normal over time. in your case, too much more may be too forgein for you body, so i might suggest eating some extra fruits or veggies at every meal. its a healthy calorie intake and may not be too hard on your body. other than that, im sorry i couldnt be of much help. i hope someone else can come along and give you some good advice. i admire your determination and i wish you the very best! |

| i love mashing drained garbanzo beans/chickpeas with some mustard,
relish, peas, corn, and any other small veggies i can get my hands on.
chickpeas are a great source of fiber and protein, and im just
simplistic like that. you can put them between two slices of whole
wheat bread, and cheese if youre just vegetarian. i also LOVE making vegan brownies.. but i cant really anymore because i always binge on them >_>. |

| i would LOVE to only eat cereal every day, all the time. thing is, i
often have a tendency to binge on cereal. this morning i resisted
binging on cheerios.. it was a great achievement for me. a cereal diet
for one week.. ive tried something like that before. i got sick of it,
but after a couple of days i was craving it again. what birdy22 said is also true. i used to binge a lot more on special K and raisin bran, but ever since i switched to cheerios, i found myself binging less on cereal. i love cheerios, but its less appealing to binge on. also, if you really want to eat some, dont take the whole box with you! ive done that before.. i hid it in my room and finished it all in one day. try taking a cup at a time, going upstairs or something to eat it. or, try eating some cereal and then drinking some water. if its sugary the water usually causes great distaste for me. maybe, if youre craving something sugary and crunchy (as most cereal are), get an apple. you need to up your calories, too, but do it slowly. eat a fruit every three hours, perhaps. let your body have time to adjust. i hope you overcome this and i wish you the best. |

| i used to get like that all the time, especially when i had to undress.
i didnt like what i say and felt so discouraged that i would start
crying and wanting to hurt myself. perhaps this doesnt match the
caliber of your feelings, but i know how you feel regardless, and ive
gotten over most of it. what i try to keep in mind the most is how badly i want to change and look differently.. and how badly i want to be more healthy. i tell myself time and time again that how i look now is temporary, as long as i can put forth some effort into changing and sticking to my goal. maybe you could have a friend make you go out and walk, or make it a routine to walk with a friend. a little support can go a long way. i wish you the best and please, dont get so discouraged! |

| Foods | doing my best to figure out pizza calories... | Jul 01 2007 15:45 (UTC) |

| i like to think of a whole pizza as 700 - 900 calories.. maybe 1000 on
bad days so you can better restrain youself. if youre able to divide
that by how many slices you think would fit (maybe 7, 8, or more), that
couild be reasonable. however, i would not throw that leftover pizza
away. im a huge stickler on wasting food.. fridge it and eat it antoher
day? what youre thinking about doing sounds good.. if youd like to get rid of some of the icky feelings about eating something oily (i hate oily things personally) use a napkin and lightly dab the surface. |
