I tempted to try this...what would you classify as a "sweet cereal?" Honey Nut Cheerios? Or one of those sugar cereals no one was allowed when they were kids?

I can relate to what you mean.  Though I've only lost 6lbs, I'm close to my goal weight so it's an accomplishment for me (especially because I'm terrible with consistancy).  The thing is, I don't even notice the 6lbs. I feel healthier (I can tell because I dont' feel so great after eating fast food) and I'm glad my habits have changed, but it would be nice to see SOME difference. In three months none of my measurements have changed, othan than 1 inch on my hips (in other words, pants are still tight!).  I'm not doing this for others, but if I don't even notice, I can't expect anyone else to notice too! I'm hoping to lose 7-8 more lbs, and hopefully by then my measurements will have decreased a bit.

If anything, be encouraged by the fact that you are doing excellent things for your body ; eating healthier, giving it exercise -things can only get better for you! Many people try to exercise/diet and give up quickly.  Great job at sticking to it!

I don't care what men think is hot. I care what my boyfriend thinks.  I'm not going to change for him, and he chose me knowing exactly who I am and how I look.  Still, I'd like to look nice for him.  I'm not going to change my style, but to me it means making an effort to look nice and presentable (not over the top, just neat). I know he appreciates it when I put effort into my appearance (though he doesn't require it), and I believe most men will appreciate this too. Just the same as if you were going on a date with your boyfriend/husband who normally dresses slob-ish and chooses to wear a suit and tie - he's making an effort to look good because he cares for you and wants you to like how he looks.

edit: can any guys confirm this?

HK: You said:

There are many girls, on this site and in real life, who have grown up believing they need to achieve these unattainable goals to be sexy, to look like the fashion models. They don't.

A Sexy Body is YOUR body, no matter who you are. Someone will find you attractive, no matter what you may think you look like.

Thank you so much for saying this.  I've seen similar things on other threads, but for some reason your wording here just got to me.  This is something I needed to hear.  I've always been more or less happy with myself - I like my face and arms and legs.  My stomach, however, I always deemed "unattractive" simply because it wasn't completely flat. My boyfriend says he is attracted to all of me and loves my stomach, yet  I always dispute it. I'm not overweight by any means, but for some reason I seem to think I am a lot bigger than I am because of my stomach. Thanks for saying this.  I agree that a women's confidence shouldn't come from what a man finds attractive, but it's hard not to get a little boost when my boyfriend tells me he loves my curves.  It's good to hear (from a man) that we don't have to be as hard on ourselves as we are.  I trust my boyfriend and know he doesn't say those things just to make me "feel better."

Ladies, just as there are men out there who seem to only go for the 'slim, petite, and fit girls,' there are just as many men who will only go for you. Why do we beat ourselves up into a body that we are only convincing ourselves men want?

AH! NO replies! I went to the dentist yesterday, which is why I wasn't around.

How are you guys doing? Anyone stressed about going back to school? I am, but at the very least, MY BOYFRIEND IS HERE ON SUNDAY! WOO HOO!.

ok. so. ha ha.

steph: Great job with all the cardio on the weekend! Were you on a roll or what? As for the EX, don't worry about it, one day won't throw you off...AND you have to walk around the EX, so at least you were active!! And like you said, back to your workouts, so it will be fine! Weigh yourself a day or two later, if you're unsure (although I suppose that's today!)

Ok, so the boy issue. Wow! Toughy. So you've been friends for a bit...what kind of friends? Good friends..like you can get along and enjoy the same things and have fun together ...or just friends because you both dance? ( I found in high school I was considered a "skater", and some  in my group of friends were just friends with each other because they were all "skaters," but didn't all have that much other stuff in common.) I'd say, unless he wants a relationship while you're away at school (long distance), try to spend less time with him now until you leave.  Start getting used to the separation. It doesn't sound like you like him all that much (romantically), and definitely not enough to be committed long distance.

You said

"But i dunno if I should stop seeing him or not... cuz there's no real passion, no sparks fly... I don't get excited to see him.. I actually kind of dread it sometimes. But then when I'm with him and after a glass of wine or 2... I do like him and I tell him that.

I feel like I'm making myself date him now."

No passion, no sparks, no way! (haha, sounds like a weird commercial slogan.) Seriously, and I'm sure you know this, you need to be (or at least I think you need to be) excited about seeing him.  ...definitely not dreading it! After a glass of wine almost anyone would look good (I know this from experience, haha!), but he's not worth it. Also, even if he knows you guys arent anything 'serious,'  it still may backfire on you if he really has genuine feelings and you're 'playing' with them by indulging him.  Even if it's just 'no strings attached' making-out, he still may be mad at you and end up bothering you a lot of school because he wants something more.  I'm sure he'll miss you either way, but for the sake of sparing his feelings and saving you cumbersome problems later, I'd get out of it now.

Then again, if he KNOWS that it's only making out (no relationship prospect), then that's something you'd have to decide with him. I guess what I'm saying is, make sure you know how he's honestly feeling so he doesn't come expecting something later (relationship) that you had no intention of ever giving.

You shouldn't have to "make yourself" date someone. I've felt pressured to date guys so I totally know what you mean, and I know that it's worse to get out LATER. I always thought "oh, maybe my opinion of them will change," but it never does.  And maybe your opinion of him could change, but you can let it change while your friends, instead of when you're already in a relationship that's hard to get out of.

If he really is such an awesome catch, let him off the hook (haha, catch...hook....I think I'm so funny....) so that he's still in one piece for the girl who doeswant him, you know what I mean?  I'm not saying you don't deserve him or anything, but if you don't want him it's better to keep his (for fear of sounding corny) heart in tact so that he's not bringing hurt and baggage into the next relationship that he's in.

If you see him on Friday, be clear with your intentions either way.  You can still hang out with him without making out....unless it gets too boring?

Oh dear, I think I've written a novel! Anyway, message me if you want to talk more! I have way too many boy experiences to keep to myself.

Have a good day girls!
Foods how to convert grams to oz? Aug 20 2007
18:40 (UTC)
3
Go on google and in the search bar type in "g to oz."  It will then give you the general conversion rate and you can do the rest with your particular numbers on a calculator yourself.  You can also type in " __g to oz"and insert your number of grams in right away.

(You can use this principal to find out any converstions - ex. km to m, oz to ml, etc.)

This can start you off:

1 gram = 0.0352739619 ounces

The crossing arms over the stomach is KEY. I always did that, and I still do it, though I'm trying to do it less. It's partly habit, partly that I still have fat to hide - my stomach has been my problem area for years.  By now I've probably even mastered how to make it look natural!....I hope...

Another thing is wearing a zip-up hoodie and the just doing up the bottom so it covers where my stomach doesn't fit into my jeans so great (I get hot REALLY fast, so I couldn't do it up anymore, even if I wanted to).

acarr: I'm pretty much the same as you - 5'4, 135lbs! I started the summer at 141lbs, so obviously I feel like I could stand to lose a little.  Most people wonder why I'm on a "diet" because I suppose I am "petite" (I don't see it, but whatever)..it's mostly because I have more fat on my body than I should and I'm working to turn that into muscle! I wish my friends would be more supportive of my "diet"/healthy lifestyle changes (ie. working out), but most keep saying "comon, it'sjust one cheat meal" and look at me weird when I say I can't eat something because I'm counting calories.  Of course, these are all the girls who are naturally very skinny regardless of what they eat.

My goal is to lose 7 more lbs by Christmas. Hopefully it will be faster, but since I'm so close to the goal I want to be realistic.  I am a bridesmaid next June and I want to look great!

If you don't want everyone to have access, you can put them on private so that only your friends can see them.  As for posting them in this text body, I don't know if you can, but you can try!

GOOD MORNING GIRLS!

Happy Monday....I think... (are Monday's ever happy?)

Today I'm going to to dentist and they couldn't fit me in during lunch or after work so I have to miss out on three hours of work (by the time I get home to get to the dentist and have the appointment, it's so far away that it's not worth driving back to work). I was alright with eating on the weekend, except that last night I had a bagel from Tim's kinda late! :| Oh well..

alittlegirl: congratulations! it's great to hear that you're happy with your time and are going to do it again next year!

anettabon: I've looked at some before/after and it's such motivation! The only thing is, most of the people who post before/afters are a lot bigger than me to start out with, and I want to see someone's body change who's more similar to mine because I'm at the point where it's the hardest to lose weight (because I'm so close to my goal weight).  I mean, I've lost six pounds but you seriously can't tell at all.  I want to notice some change, somehow! I guess it will just take a LOT longer to see a change than if I had started out bigger. I took "before" pics myself, but there's no way I'm posting them! Hopefully by Christmas I'll see a difference...I better see changes by when I'm a bridesmaid in June! Also, as for your b/f situation, I hope that this time instead of getting upset and gaining weight, you get upset and lose weight! I find sometimes for me it's hard to have motivation to work out like I'd have motivation to do other things, so I wouldn't think of it as getting slimmer/healthier, I'd think of it as, ' I'm sad and I want to LOOK better so I feel better..and this is the only way I can do it!" I mean, you know how it is when you buy new clothes and want to show them off! haha.

stephh0701: that sucks that your ex keeps making you doubt your decision. I had an ex do the same thing and it's so hard to move on when you feel like you shouldn't be letting go (haha that sounded corny but you know what I mean). Everytime he did that I just kept reminding myself, and had friends remind me, of the bigger reasons to NOT be with him (rather than the few saying I should be with him).  Hopefully once you guys have some space, you can see eachother as good friends again. Maybe he's making you doubt the decision because he's afraid if you break up he'll lose you completely? anyway, good luck with that and keep us posted!

holisticgirl: Naniamo, COOL! Ok...ummm not eating " bad" stuff...well do you have choices on what you eat? Are you on a meal plan or will you be making your own food?

One thing you can do is to just not buy junk food. Especially if you have a problem with self-control or saying "no," this is important. If you ever really want it, then you can make a conscious decision to have a "cheat meal" and then go out and buy some junk. Otherwise, if you only have healthy, low-cal stuff around, if you're starving that's all you will have to snack on. I try my best to always hve something healthy around if I need to snack. Honey Maid low-fat graham crackers are really good and 110cal/5 crackers. Kraft Refrigerated Sugar-Free pudding cups have 60 cal.  Baby carrots are always good as well.

Another thing I do  is focus on what I want - a better body. One thing  that helped me do this was to read the success stories of others doing the same things I'm doing - counting calories, cardio, strength training, etc.  Knowing that what I'm doing works for so many gives me hope that it will work for me. And really, CC is a GREAT place to find motivation!

OK! Many things to say:

1. I WANT THE MAGIC BULLET! A few years ago I looooved watching informercials so much and always wanted one of those! My sister got one and so did my friend but sadly they like theirs enough to keep them. haha! (I was hoping it would suck and they'd give it to me...I don't know why..haha)

2. Weddings.  All of these are in B.C. by the way...expensive!!! One is my roommate of two years who just got engaged Monday, although we all knew it was coming.  Another got engaged August 3rd (she's from there, he's from Alberta). Then two other couples who aren't engaged yet but are thinknig about their weddings next July/August ...the guys already have the rings! Oh and yeah, most of these people are our age or a year older! (Except for two of the boys who are 22/25.) Crazy eh! My first year I met a girl who was my age (18 at the time) and she got engaged and married the guy just after she turned 19! It was so weird for me for people to get married so young, but now I'm used to it. I'm not saying they "can't know" yet either...all of these relationships I'm really happy for and think they are good for eachother.  There's only one that worries me because not because they don't go together...I jsut don't respect the guy. Anyway, one of the weddings is June 28 but the other ones only know it will be around July/August. I hope they plan them together (which they might) so that I only have to fly down twice (once June, once then) and just stay for like two weeks and do them all then! I'm going to have to save up so much money and I don't know how I'll do it since I don't work during school...

3. San Frans is a pizza place right near where I live..it's near a Macs on Winston Churchill..right near the 403. You've probably passed it I'm sure, if you're ever driving to Square One from where you are. I might even be going to Merriam tonight to look at pianos and that's like right beside your office, right? AH TOO WEIRD!!!

4. Is it weird that I'm excited to hear about a boy dilemma?

5. Where do you take vocal lessons? My old piano teacher also did vocal and I took a few from her before I went to B.C. and now that I'm back I'm considering taking some more vocal because I want to keep it up.

6. (holy crap this is long). How much was it to go to Second City? THere's so many things I'm taking my boyfriend to and I tried to save up money and PLAN to spend around this time..but we are seeing Evil Dead already..and maybe Kooza (the cirque du soleil thing) and visiting my sister in Peterborough (bus $)...but I have wanted to see that show for a while!

7. Normaly I'm done at 5 but in the summer (conveniently when I work, ha ha) Fridays end at 4:30. I drive with my dad though..so hopefully he is done work on time too so I can leave!

I finished two years of music at college, now I'm starting fresh at McMaster University in Ontario for history/eng.

Laura: Does raisin bran work just as well for all the fibre? cause I LOVE that! I really want to try that smoothie! I better go buy a blender for my new place!

Kimmie: I know what you mean...I was hoping to lose about 5lbs in August but so far in three weeks the scale has only moved down 1lb.  I'm thinking that wanting to lose 8lbs by Christmas is more realistic, but really I just want to look better by next summer! I'll be going to at least three (but almost sure there will be more) weddings of my good friends I met at college across the country, so it will be cool if I have a new body for them to see, since they won't have seen me in a year!

I'm also jealous that it's your last day! I'm a summer student at my office job too, but I still have one more week.  My boyfriend gets here (he's moving here from across the country) on the 26th, so my last day is the 24th. I wish I could stop earlier, but I really should get the money. Then I need to start packing to move in (even though my place is ready late). Sucky!

Steph: I think we are the only Canadians...for now. I know there are a bunch of other CAD college girls around though..they just need to find us! Oh, and I'm pretty sure I know where your company is and it is SOOOO close to where I live! WEIRD!!!!!!! If you know where San Frans is I may have to die.

and other Steph0701: Definitely vent in here about your boyfriend if you need to.  I feel a bit lame for saying this, but even though I'm only twenty I've had four serious relationships (not including the one I'm in now).  Two of those were year long, and I feel like since dealing with those relationships, I've learned a lot - about myself, how girls/boys deal with things, and relationships in general.  I'm sure we all have our own experiences in here so if you need advise, don't hesitate! If you also just want us to listen, we'll be here too (as much as we can on an online forum!)

I'm done work in two hours....but it's going by so slow...
Foods Gum: Is it good....or bad? Aug 17 2007

I think it depends. Sometimes if people are used to chewing on things (chronic pen-cap chewers, nail-biters, etc.), then perhaps chewing gum wont' do that. I chew gum to help curb my appetite. It also helps if I've just finished a meal to stop eating because I want to keep the fresh feeling in my mouth.

Hi Lindsay! Thought I'd say HI because I'm Canadian too!

It's good to hear your wedding pictures turned out well despite your weight...post some so we can see how beautiful you looked!

As for what it's like here, that depends on what you're looking for. If you go in the Lounge forum, you'll find tons of chat and discussions on general things, usually unrelated to weight loss.  If you want advice, you could look in the weight loss, fitness, foods, health and support, or other forums.  CC is a good place to come and ask questions and get clarification on a lot of things you're unsure of.  Not only that, the more you post in forums, the more you'll meet people with similar goals and become their friends! CC is a great place to find encouragement and motivation - I know without it I wouldn't have been as consistant or as successful  as I have been!

Take advantage of the tools offered on CC - not only the information in the forums, but you can learn about your BMI, expenditure, and other things to help you figure out how many calories you need to consume and burn to reach your goal in a healthy way.  You can look up the nutritional information for tons of food, including many chain restaurants.  You can also find out the # of calories burned for activities and log them so that you have a record how how much you're working out.

This site isn't just about losing weight - it's about becoming a more fit, healthier, happier person, with lifestyle changes that will become permanent.  It may be hard at first, but begin making little changes and soon it will all become habit.

Good luck!

Feel free to PM me if you want to talk more/have questions!

stephh0701 (there's two steph's; we'll need a way to distinguish!): 9 lbs is awesome too! I've lost 6lbs this summer and I'm 5'4, but seriously, I don't notice it at ALL. I've also only lost one inch on my hips but nowhere else. I'm hoping to lose about 8lbs more by Christmas.

With the alcohol, I would do what they always say and just do it in moderation.  If you don't have it ever and you really want it you'll end up feeling like you're missing out. I think I've been successful with keeping with my "diet" so far because once and a while I allow myself to just eat and hang out with my friends without worrying. It's my reward, I guess you could say. I don't drink much so when I do once and a while it's alright.  Also, I try to go for the lighter options if I can and also try to eat especially healthy that day.

For snacks, I always go for the 100cal snacks too..like the packs of mini oreos (no icing though) or chips ahoy! I also started eating these low fat graham crackers that don't taste low fat at all! They really fill me up and 5 crackers is 110cals! I try to have snacks that satisfy me taste-wise...if I have food that I dont' really enjoy I end up being just as hungry even though Ive already eaten! At work I have a morning and afternoon snack. One is my "healthier" one...normally a banana or apple.  The other is my less healthy, but still low cal one, like graham crackers.

alittlegirl: Oh man, I hope you can work it out so you eat at the right time! Good luck! I really wished I liked running more, but everytime I do it it just doesn't get better and my opinion stays the same.  Maybe I'll try again in a few months.

I totally do the same thing. Well, I haven't binged in a while (since April), but during the school year instead of having the bad caf meals I would have cereal instead.  But since it was a meal, I could somehow justify having three bowls......

In my defence, it was Special K with Red Berries which isn't terrible for you and I used skim milk too! :|
