I actually feel like I don't do enough as far as working out goes just because the academy is starting a WEEK from today. LOL. The 3rd day of the academy, we are running 5.5 miles!! It's crazy. But that's why I've been running a lot lately.

Thanks for the compliment. I don't know about all of you, but that's a major part of why I've been able to lose the weight. People noticing really helps. :) Keep it up, you look great!!

Hang in there. :) I have found that when you stop stressing about losing the weight, it will just start coming off. I know, IT'S NOT EASY. Trust me, I know. But seriously, you can do this!

Don't worry about what has happened in the past, even yesterday. Just focus on today and take it one day at a time. Eat well as much as you can. You're allowed to slip up every once in a while. We all do it. :) And try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise in per day. Once you get into a routine, you'll feel weird if you don't do it. Even if it's walking around the block twice or three times, make time for it.

Good luck!!
Weight Loss Digital scales vs. real ones? Jun 16 2008

I LOVE my digital scale. It's one made by Weight Watchers (even though I don't use their diet, their scale is awesome). It weighs in .1 increments, which is great.

So instead of my old-fashioned scale not showing a change for at least 2-3 pounds, my digital scale tells me if I've lost even 1/10th of a pound. LOL. Sounds crazy, but it really is a good thing. Oh and I've never had a problem with it showing different weights. It's pretty much right on all the time.

Well yesterday morning I was 167.0. I know, I know. I shouldn't be weighing myself so often. But I always have found it to be a great motivator.

So I went out on Saturday and walked/jogged over 4 miles around my neighborhood. I got a really good sweat going, which is why I dropped down to what I am now.

BUT, I wanted to say a huge Thank You to Amayou - I always knew that I did better with weight loss when I cut down my carbs, but it was something about what you've written here that finally got me back on track. I went and bought a bunch of South Beach Diet stuff and I've really just been upping my protein more than anything. This is the first time I haven't felt restricted when cutting carbs.

Keep going girls! One day at a time. :)

Hey guys. Still at 170.0... I feel badly about that. I haven't been eating badly. I just haven't been exercising like I used to. I used to do a lot of cardio and now I'm focusing more on sit ups and push ups more than anything.

I'm going to try amayou's tip about eating less carbs. I buy the frozen meals anyway, so I might as well try the South Beach meals. I really think that is what will finally take me over this hump I've been trying to get over for the last month or so. Next week, I WILL be in the 160's!! :)

Awesome job girls!

I missed the weigh-in as well and I haven't lost a thing. Still holding steady at 170.

But I'm not all that bummed. I'm really anxious and nervous about the academy starting in a couple weeks so I'm sure my body doesn't know what's going on. LOL. Plus it's TTOM now too.

I'm gonna keep at it. But I'm gonna focus on getting ready for the academy, not just losing weight.

Good job everyone. :)

amayou is right about focusing on the good things in life. I've always found that in order to lose weight, you have to be happy. When I'm stressed, I can't lose a pound no matter what I do. So smile girls! :)

I've been a pretty good eater today. Have you all (if you live in the US) tried grilled chicken go-wraps at Wendy's? They're the same as the snack wraps at McDonalds. Anyway, I get 2 grilled chicken wraps with no sauce for lunch sometimes. It's yummy and filling. :) Oh and it's like 450 calories.

Alright I have an exercise test today for the Police Department. I get to have 10 of those sticky things put on my chest and then run on a treadmill so they can see if I'm going to keel over during the academy. LOL.

Keep at it!!

Hey guys. :)

Sorry I missed the first weigh-in on Friday. I didn't realize it until Sunday and by then I thought I might as well just wait until the next one.

I've been pretty active though. I've been helping my sister move and running quite a bit. Ran 4 miles on Saturday! That's the longest distance yet. :)

I like the Friday weigh-in idea. I'm a much better dieter during the week while I'm working. LOL.

Angie, I totally agree with you. I think when you lose it the old fashioned way, you get a lot more pride out of it and you feel like you really earned it because you worked so hard to do it.

Yeah family can be that way. My mom had gastric bypass surgery a few years ago after being overweight for 20+ years. She lost like 160 pounds and fit into a size 10 while I wore a size 16. Long story short, I lost 50 pounds and I wear a 10 now too.

Last weekend we were out shopping and she saw a dress I would like and she hands me a size 16 and says "Here. Try this on.." ??? She couldn't believe I was the same size as she is. She got this look on her face like she was upset about that or something. So yeah it's no fun dealing with things like that.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of the word thick either. I said something to my boyfriend the other day about how he hadn't seen me when I was at my highest weight. And he was like "I've seen pictures from when you were thicker, I mean thick...". Yeah that wasn't the best thing to hear. LOL.

LOL these stories are great. :)

I have 2. You know it's time to lose weight when 3 different people ask if you are pregnant. (I'm with you amaresmom.) I was about 18 at the time and within a few months, 3 people asked me that. I was crushed.

The other wake up call I got was when my Mom had gastric bypass surgery in 2004. I vowed that I would never allow myself to go through that. I knew I had to make life changes to prevent that from happening.

I feel for you. I have had acne for the last 10 years. Of course, now no one can really tell because I figured out how to control it. I have tried pretty much everything out there. Prescription creams, oral medication, ProActiv, Clinique, everything. But the best things I have found are:

Cetaphil

http://www.cetaphil.com/Products/Cleansers.as px

and Clean & Clear Continuous Control Acne Cleanser

http://www.cleanandclear.com/productDetail.do ?productid=44&productpos=1540

Hope this helps! Good luck! :)

Oh and just FYI, if the problem doesn't go away, it's always a good idea to use oil-free makeup whenever possible.

I totally agree with the others that said you don't always know exactly what you want to do when you're young. I'm 23 and I just realized a few months back that I want to go into police work. Right now, I'm working in Civil Engineering, so I can relate to what you're feeling. There's just something scary about being behind a desk for 30 years. LOL.

I guess what I'm trying to say is just go with the flow and get your degree. No one can ever take that away from you. Then someday, I promise you will just have a light bulb go off and you'll know what you want to do with your life. Good luck!! :)

I don't know what I was thinking, but a group of friends and I decided to let off some fireworks on Friday. We had all the fireworks in a guitar case. Well one of the guys let off a bottle rocket and it went RIGHT INTO THE GUITAR CASE. Every single firework went off at one time... Weird.
Motivation Scale: Dial (Analog) or Digital? Jul 16 2007
13:31 (UTC)
4
LOL I have both actually. I use my weigh-ins as a motivator in my weight loss. I weigh myself every day. I know some people say that is a bad thing, but I find that I feel better knowing how what I eat or do affects my weight.

I get on the analog scale first to get an idea of my weight. Then I get on the digital one to see the exact number. I have a scale that measures in .2 increments, which I love. But anyway, that's how I stay motivated and encourage myself to keep going on the whole weight loss thing.

I've had acrylic nails 2 or 3 times, but it makes it impossible to play any kind of sports. It's just too easy to hurt yourself by lifting the nail. Ouch!
