Weight Loss What triggers your I'm-so-famished-I'll-eat-ANYTHING madness? Sep 17 2009

I always find that I eat way more when I'm tired. It's almost like my body thinks that extra calories will make up for lack of sleep.

Weight Loss Chocolate cake in the break room! Jan 10 2009

Someone at my work brought in a huge bowl (punch bowl, I believe) full of Hershey's Kisses. Now I'll admit that we're a group that needs to get some exercise and cut back on the snacks, not just me. But I couldn't keep myself away from the stupid things. Every time I walked past the break room, I'd snatch one or two. Unfortunately, I can't avoid the break room as it's right next to both the bathroom and the door to the parking lot.

Weight Loss Our Body's "Set Point" - can it be changed? Jan 09 2009

I consider my "set point" to be that weight that my body just seems to settle at when I'm not going extreme either way (healthy vs. unhealthy lifestyle, I mean). From junior high up until I got pregnant with my son at 21, I weighed within 5 lbs of the same weight (180), whether I was eating everything in sight or not eating a bite for a week.

After my son was born, it took about a year, but my body seemed to settle itself back down to that 180. I'll admit that it looked a little different than it did before though! I got divorced about a year and a half ago, and after that I started gaining...and gaining...and gaining. Now my "set point" seems to be around 215. I'm not getting any bigger no matter what I do. I don't know about getting smaller, as I haven't been at it for that long this time around. But hopefully you can change your set point just like anything else. The human body is amazingly adaptable, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Weight Loss Was anyone woman here "the fat kid" in school? May 08 2008

I don't know if I was really the fat kid, or if I just thought I was. I was never obese, but I was always much chunkier than my friends. While they wiggled into size 8 jeans, I was sucking in to zip up my size 14s. 6 years, 1 baby and 1 divorce later, I look back at those pictures and think that I looked pretty damn good.

Hopefully, I'll get back to looking that good.

Health & Support I eat constantly... Feb 18 2008

Thanks for the advice. I will try carrying more healthy, lo-cal snacks with me. You would think that I would find it embarrassing when someone asks me that, and I do, but it doesn't stop me from eating more.

(Ex. I went to Red Lobster with my family for my brother's birthday. I had 30 pieces of shrimp (shrimp scampi, fried shrimp and grilled shrimp) plus fries, and I followed that up by eating my son's fries, my brother's jumbo grilled shrimp and 3 rolls. My brother's girlfriend, who is a very thin girl, just kept looking at me like she thought she was going to be sick.)

I totally agree with most of these. But personally...

1. I want to be able to keep up with my 2-year-old.

2. I want my ex-husband to stop making comments to me about how skinny his current wife.

3. I want to be able to shop in the same stores I did when I was a teen...

4. ...and wear the clothes I wore before baby...and even smaller ones.

5. Bathing suits that fit would be nice.

6. I hate eating with my family because I eat more than 2 grown men and my dad (who is a big guy) says, "You're gonna eat all that?"

7. My 16-yr-old brother is a gorgeous kid. All his friends are like, "Is your sister hot?" and then they see me. (I don't want a 16-yr-old boyfriend, but I wouldn't mind knowing that they think I'm hot.)

1. So I can finally buy my 2-year-old son that shirt that says, "If you think I'm cute, you should see my mom."

2. Getting a date.

3. Shopping in all those "skinny girl" stores that I've never been able to shop in.

 4. To be healthier and feel better. (Physically and mentally.)

There are certainly people on here who could give better and more detailed explanations that I can, but just to give you a general idea, your weight fluctuates from day to day. This could be water weight, or possibly be caused by it being your time of the month. Most programs recommend that you weigh once a week, in the morning, after using the restroom but before eating or drinking anything.

I wouldn't worry about it, hon.

Well, I already have a wonderful son and don't have any intention of having more children, so I'm okay with infertility. I just thought it was odd...I haven't had a period this entire time, not even light spotting, and then I went to the gym on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Tuesday morning I noticed some light spotting and then woke up this morning to a full-blown period.

 Oh well. Just curious.

I don't really have a specific inspiration outfit. I surf different clothing websites and go, "Oh, that would be so cute on me if I were skinny," and try to motivate myself that way. I did buy a pair of pants yesterday that are a size too small (they were waaay cheap) and I hung them up where I see them every morning when I get dressed. Hopefully that will motivate me to lose weight so I can wear them!

boobunnies, if you could suggest a routine, that'd be great. Thank you all for your suggestions. Maybe taking my Ipod will help me NOT look at everyone around me and worry about them looking at me. Or maybe not.

Thanks, guys! Wish me good luck. My weight loss journey has been a rollercoaster, but I really want it this time.
Weight Loss What is the biggest obstacle standing between you and your goal? Aug 02 2007

I think it's a combination of attitude and willpower for me. I'll get so into the whole thing for a couple of days, counting every calorie that goes near my mouth and exercising as much as possible. Then I won't see results right away, so I feel discouraged. Then I'll have a stressful day, go home and binge to my heart's delight. (And my stomach's.)

Some days I just feel like the battle to be skinny isn't worth it.

I have this problem too, all the time. My main problem is that my family eats a big dinner, so I try to eat low-cal breakfast and lunch. But I'm so hungry all the time!

I ate a bowl of cereal at 7:30 this morning. It's not quite 11 and I'm already hungry. Lunch is not until 12. I usually try to bring a snack, like a small granola bar or similar, but I forgot today.

My best advice is to keep healthy foods on hand, and just have enough to make you feel full.

Honey, you're going to be fine. My husband walked out on me and our son, so trust me, I know that it hurts. But forget him. Living well is the best revenge, so focus on that for now. And eventually, you will get so caught up in living well that you'll forget about the revenge part. Take a day to cry, but then you have to suck it up and say that you're going to learn from that relationship and have a better one someday.

For the first 3 weeks that I joined CC, I stuck to my 1250-cal-a-day diet religiously and the scale didn't seem to go anywhere but up. Just a couple of ounces at a time, but still...Then, all of a sudden, I dropped 5 lbs. And said yay!

Every time I look in the mirror, I have to remind myself, "No, you're not ugly. But you're unhealthy and unhappy and you can actually do something to change this! So get to work."

I'm doing little things, baby steps. I started dropping my soda intake, now down to 1 can a day, and none on good days. Eating breakfast for what must be the first time in my life. And besides taking a walk every night, I have started fitting in toning exercises (squats, push ups, etc.) whenever I have a few free minutes. Like when I take a bathroom break, or before I go to bed, etc.

You can definitely do this. Stick to it. And check out the Motivation forum, because these people will inspire you like nothing else.

I think I am probably obsessed. Not necessarily a bad thing, since I took some time this weekend to forget about it and gained back all the weight I had lost. (4 lbs!) Of course, I think a lot of that is water weight, since I drank a ton of soda over the weekend...

I am right there with you guys. Only maybe I'm worse. I won't even call people to make plans because I don't think they will want to hang out with me because of how I look. (And because I'm shy, but still...) I have no social life to speak of. My only friends seem to be my mom and my little boy. It's a very lonely place to be, but I'm working on it...

I listen to music really loud on my headphones. Another thing I do is set easy goals for myself, and then slow down when I get there. For example, I tell myself that I have to jog to the end of this block, but when I finally get that done, I can walk the next block. Then I do a jog the next one, back to the walk. Same thing on my stationary bike: I have to really push through this lap (sometimes I make myself push through a song I'm listening to) and then I can slow down for the next one.

I also spend a lot of time fantasizing about how good I'm going to look when I'm done, lol.
