YES IT DOES! but its takes forever.

mine has just started thickening up again, and i've been eating "healthily" (meaning lots of protein and omega 3's and iron and zinc) for close to 7 months now.

but who knows, maybe my system is just slower than most people. it all depends, i guess.

but you're already healthier by starting this change, so you're already on your way! keep it up! good luck!

Fitness Treadmill vs. street running. Sep 28 2008

20

that's so weird! i'm totally opposite. i would much rather be running on uneven surface and different terrain or else i get so unbelievably bored and i start to hate running. i treadmill maybe once every couple weeks and the rest is all street.

i guess it just depends on your own preferences. as long as you're enjoying it, i suppose it doesn't really matter how you do it! :]

The Lounge survey about.. Sep 13 2008

1) do you watch the food network everyday? YES

2) what's your favorite show to watch on the food network? oh boy. soooo many. i love Road Tasted, Good Eats, any Rachael Ray, Guy Fieri (he's from my hometown!), Iron Chef, any Challenge, Unwrapped...it goes on.

3) why? Road Tasted: because after watching it, i'm actually full! Good Eats: because its so informative and Alton is like a god. Rachael Ray: because she reminds me of my family. Guy Fieri: even though he's slightly obnoxious, he's my local chef, so i gotta love him! Iron Chef: the food portions are PERFECT. Challenge: they're about more than food, and its true that cooking is a science. Unwrapped: i don't know, but its addictive.

4) what's your least favorite show to watch on the food network? unfortunately, i don't really like the Neely's as much as i used to.

5) why? i've never really liked barbeque. but more than that, is that every show is identical. there's very little variety. i find myself very bored after awhile.

6) who's your favorite food network personality? paula deen would probably take the cake. even though her recipes are deadly.

7) who's your least favorite food network personality? the neely's. even though they're adorable, i just can't stand their show. (except road tasted)

8) do you ever try to make the recipes you see on the food network? i tried paula chocolate chip cookie pie once and butchered it horribly. i've tried other really easy ones from rachael and they worked out fine.

9) do you ever try to make the recipes you see on the food network, but make them healthier or lower in calories? YES! i made one of emeril's pizzas way healthier.

10) who has the unhealthiest cooking/eating habits you've seen on the food network? paula deen

11) you seems to be able to cook the healthiest on the food network? ellie krieger probably. rachael does a good job as well.

12) what was the last show you watched on the food network? unwrapped last night

13) how long ago did you start watching the food network? over three years ago

14) why do you like to watch the food network? no. LOVE.

15) does anybody else in your household watch it with you? hah, no one.

oh man, that must be SOOOO difficult. i'm so sorry you have to go through that. but just think of it as you being one step ahead of them. just remember what it was like to be that unhealthy and frail and unhappy, and try to give them as much support and incentive to get healthy as they need.

you will gain so much will-power by resisting such strong temptation! keep it up! :)

wow, i'm surprised you're still functioning normally. i mean that in the best way possible! you're INCREDIBLE to still be standing! that is WAY too much to go through and far too much pressure for a 16 year old (i'm 16 too and i can't even imagine all that stress). its no wonder you feel like you've lost all control with food.

the best advice i can give is to eliminate all bad foods in your home. if you have a box of betty crocker brownies, throw it out! (or hide it or something. i hate being wasteful, so maybe throwing it out isn't the best solution, hah) just replace those foods with the healthy foods. and from what i can tell, you know what those are. just breathe and remember that you are under a tremendously greater amount of pressure than most, if not ALL, other people around you.

its gotta suck. and i want to give you a huge hug right now, because you are being so strong and so incredibly unselfish. please, remember to give yourself a little love too. sure, your mom  needs you now more than ever, but don't forget the most important person: YOU.

stay strong girl! :)

unfortunately i can't help you, because i too am having this problem. our stats are eerily similar (i'm 5'3'', 106ish with a low of 96). i'm getting some good fats from nuts, cheeses and also olive oil when i can afford it.

i'm hoping someone has a good idea of what else we can do? i hate the suspense...

Health & Support A questionnaire for recoverers. O: Jul 10 2008
03:02 (UTC)
4

Your height? (Now and at the start of recovery, if it differs): 5'3.5''. i'm pretty sure i haven't grown since then.

Your age? (Same as above - now and at the start of recovery, if it differs~): start: 14, now:16

Your weight when you began recovery? : 94 that i'm aware of. that's the lowest i saw on the scale.

How quickly did you increase your intake initially? What was it before/after?: so slowly. it took me about nine months to get over the 1800. i was scared that because my body was definitely in "starvation mode" i would gain at an uncontrolable rate.

How much did you end up needing to eat to gain (and at what rate?): i think originally i started gaining at about 1600-1700 and that was about a quarter to half pound a week

How much do you maintain on now?: i'm not sure because i randomly snack on almonds or carrots or whatever and don't really log those extra things, so my rough estimates of things i do log is usually around 1800, give or take. but i'm pretty convinced that my real intake is around 2000 (hopefully more)

How much exercise did you do initially, do you do now, and how much of either type? (Cardio/strength): i had an over-exercise disorder (self-diagnosed) where i would do 6 miles a night (i'm realizing now after reading all the others that mine really wasn't that bad). i would also walk in a circle around my couch while watching TV (i've caught myself doing it recently and had to stop myself because it had become so habitual). i was also fit in a few minutes of pilates a day, but eventually stopped because i realized it didn't burn enough calories for my liking. now, still in "recovery" i do pilates about twice a week, lift weights three times a week, and walk about 90ish minutes a day.

Do you do any other activities (Calorie-burning, that is!) or have a hectic, mobile job?: YES! finally! i work at a bakery anywhere from 3-8 hours about 4-5 days a week. i may also be taking up a kickboxing class in the near future. i have horses too, so i ride occassionally.

Were you overly active before you chose to recover?: definitely. there's no doubt in my mind that i was addicted to the endorphines and the control that it gave me. i realize now that it was extremely dangerous, which at first really confused me. how could exercising be unhealthy? but i'm so thankful now that i have all this knowledge now. :)

Fitness Just curious Jul 04 2008

my gym teacher told me once that watching a scary movie burns more calories than watching a not so scary movie.

i'm not sure how many more. haha, but its a rather amusing concept!

wow! i didn't realize that so many people noticed this like i do. that makes me a feel a lot better.

i too noticed that my thighs are getting closer (though they haven't quite gotten to touch yet). i used to see girls and women whose thighs didn't touch and i was like "eww that's nasty" but when i looked at myself, i really really liked it. i guess that's all part of the disease, though.

i've been pretty upset lately because my love handles have definitely come back to haunt me. i hate watching this happen, but i'm still not done gaining yet. i hope it gets a little easier.

good luck :)

this has crossed my mind a lot too. sometimes i love the fact that i'm one of the very few (or so i think) that can make smart decisions based on my knowledge of calorie counting when it comes to food. but other times i'm like "man, i feel all alone here!" and then i kind of get self conscious about it too because i don't want people judging me when i constantly look at the nutritional info on the back of every product you know?

Fitness love handles! how can i lose them? Jun 18 2008
01:11 (UTC)

ugh, i have the same issue. the love handles are the last to go and the first to come. they come and go, its weird. i've found i'm happiest with them when i'm consistently doing a lot of pilates and strengthening my core.

what was weird was when i just kind of gave up on them, they disappeared! (well, kind of. more like REDUCED a little in size, but still!)

good luck :)

Foods is it THAT bad for me? Jun 14 2008

i think if its that important to you, and you only eat a small, prepackaged amount, then eat it! peanut butter is good for you, and even those little tubes have loads of nutrition. plus, if you eat your favorites in moderation, you're less likely to give in to temptation and binge later, you know?

i think you deserve your peanut butter. i'm a fellow pb lover too. enjoy those good foods! and keep up the progress! you're doing GREAT :)
