i had a carl's jr chargrilled chicken salad (250 calories) for dinner tonight. i got it with balsamic vinaigrette dressing, which is 35 calories for the whole package (i only used about half of it though). pretty tasty, and 590 milligrams of sodium.

Weight Gain Question for anyone who has a real idea. Aug 18 2008

it's impossible to know for sure, but you have nothing to lose by eating properly. if you can still grow, you will. if not, you will still be healthy.

Health & Support i shoudlnt eat too much trans/ sat. fat or i'll become SKINNY FAT... right? Aug 17 2008
00:17 (UTC)
1

"skinny fat" just means that you are thin, but have little to no muscle tone. as long as you are eating a reasonable amount of calories and exercising (cardio/strength training), you won't be "skinny fat." the type of food you eat really doesn't affect your appearance.

toast, i know how you feel-- i am a psychology student in college, yet i have struggled with anorexia. it seems that even if you know all the facts and "whys" or ED's, it is still hard to convince yourself to do what you know is healthy and logical. i would definitely suggest seeing a psychologist if you can find one.  do you think that your ED has more to do with the numbers? like do you feel in control and calm when all of the amounts/numbers are what you consider to be "right"? it could be that your ED is the manifestation of OCD and you are less afraid of gaining weight than of breaking out of the safety that you think those numbers provide. either way, i really do hope that you can find a professional who can help you sort it out.

Fast food Chinese (PFChang, Panda, etc): PF Changs, Pei Wei; Singapore Street Noodles, Pad Thai

on the website they list the info for the salad with chicken and without chicken, so just subtract without chicken from with chicken to get the info for the chicken by itself. i just looked and it seems to be about 150cal.

i suggest portioning out servings of the crackers into plastic bags. that way, when you reach the bottom of the bag, you will know that you've eaten a serving. this might stop you from eating more, since it means opening a new bag, and knowing that you are eating another serving.

yeah i don't see any reason to give it up, since it is so low-cal. just ask the server to weigh it for you, and log that # of calories (a lot of people do this, actually, so the server wouldn't mind at all)

oink thank you thank you thank you for posting this topic! i too have been eating not enough and gaining and feeling very bloated. i actually have been exercising more regularly now that it is summer and i have more time, and still i am gaining! it is so frustrating! sometimes i see weight loss when i up my calories, but other times i see gain! like the other night i went out with my boyfriend's parents for dinner, and i just ate and ate (at least it felt that way; i was probably eating the same amount as them, but to me it was a lot). the funny thing is i lost a little! days like that make me think that it is a simple matter of eating more to lose, and so l up my calories a little, but then the next day i have gained! anyway, these stories have helped, and i think i will try to eat less bloat-inducing foods and see if that helps. maybe adding fiber will help too. at this point i am willing to try anything because clearly eating under 1000 calories is not a good idea. good luck dear!

it's funny, i used to be really big on making playlists to work out to, but i've been busy lately and i haven't been updating my iPod very much. i work out at Bally though, and they have a good soundtrack on all the time, and it seems like they pick songs that have the right number of beats per minute. now, i just listen to that instead! it frees up my range of motion, and i like the element of surprise-- i never know what song is coming next!

Weight Loss 5'5 and 99 lbs.??? May 03 2008

... why did you post with the subject line "5'5 and 99lbs.???" that is probably why people are getting upset.

i think 115 would be a healthy weight, and you seem to as well.

as far as healthy eating, i am also a very busy college student, so i understand that it can be hard to eat healthy. my student union has a deli counter where you can custom order a sandwich or wrap, and they have a great, fresh variety of stuff. that's what i do when i'm stuck on campus. otherwise, stock up on frozen chicken breast and frozen veggies, rice, keep some kashi or amy's frozen dinners on hand, etc. have a big breakfast to keep you going through the day: oatmeal, yogurt, high-protein/fiber cereal are all good choices. you may have noticed that the same food you've eaten all your life is affecting you differently because a) your metabolism isn't as fast anymore and b) you aren't as active as you were

"For those of you watching your weight, you can also top it with salsa" lol... yeah ADDING something to those deep-fried disasters will cancel out all the calories.

ratinhat: i honestly don't like fried food, so none of those sounded appetizing at all, but the cool dog did sound kind of good (sponge cake with ice cream and whipped cream? yes please)
Health & Support Veins May 01 2008

this happens to me too. i think when it is colder, the veins recede into your limbs to keep them warm, and when it is hot, they come to the surface. i'm not positive on this, but i have noticed more bulging when it is hot, and i have heard that when people live in warmer climates, their veins are closer to their skin. i actually have kind of a fear of veins, like they gross me out, so it bothers me when they are really visible. too bad i live in arizona and it is hot most of the time!
Foods Starbucks.... Apr 30 2008

so i take it you're boycotting every restaurant that sells high-calorie foods? you don't go to mcdonalds and order a big mac and then get angry when you find out it's high in calories. i think a better tactic would be to educate yourself on healthy options before you go. starbucks has a variety of choices to please a variety of customers, and personally i think they do a great job. blaming starbucks is kind of silly, since they do have a lot of low-calorie choices. it's possible to eat out healthy, you just have to know what you're getting. they aren't being deceptive; they have all of their nutritional information on their website, and they have signs in the stores advertising low-calories choices. just learn from your mistake and enjoy the drink for what it was-- an indulgence!
Health & Support im not super skinny... but do i have an eating disorder?? Apr 28 2008
04:41 (UTC)

i believe you might have ED-NOS (not otherwise specified) which basically means you have the mentality of an eating disordered person, but (luckily) you have not yet reached the dangerously low BMI by which anorexia is defined. this is good! it means that if you seek help now you can prevent your body from reaching an unhealthy weight. i hope you do. psychologists will definitely take you seriously; all of us readers have :)

linny i have been in the same situation with gaining on less than maintenance (i am also entrenched in finals, a reseach project for a grant i received, a job, a boyfriend, etc.). to top it off, it seems that every time i notice this and try to add 200 or so extra calories, i GAIN like two pounds, and it isn't just food weight, because the gain stays. it is very frustrating and makes me want to restrict, but i read what the other people have said and i think the moral is that we need to eat at maintenance or at least 1200. i still find this really hard to believe, but i think that is ED talking. (i think that's also what's causing a little part of you to be upset that you haven't seen your weight move when you undereat...) good luck, i will be doing my best too!

this place is amazing. drive across the bridge or take the ferry to coronado island. great view of the san diego skyline and great food. the food is sort of hawaiian-inspired, and there are lots of great, fresh, seafood dishes, as well as steak and other meat. it's very romantic; PERFECT for an anniversary dinner!

both the iced tea and iced coffee automatically come with "classic" syrup added in. this is basically liquid sweetener. just say "unsweetened" when you order. this is what i do when i get iced tea. if you get them unsweetened, they are virtually calorie-free.
Foods "only 8" frozen yogurt Apr 21 2008
21:15 (UTC)
i work at a yogurt place that sells this stuff, and it's actually closer to 10 cal per oz, because we add flavor syrup (if it was completely plain it would be 8 cal/oz). and if you're concerned about how many calories you're getting, ask the person to weigh it for you, or to make sure to only give you a certain # of ounces. where i work, a small is 5oz, so it's going to be more than 1/2 cup. just assume 10 cal per ounce. 50 calories for a small cup of yogurt is still pretty awesome (by the way, it's VERY hard to resist stuffing my face with the stuff while i'm working lol!)
