Weight Loss Why am I gaining weight? Sep 29 2007
16:21 (UTC)

I would love to do more weight training... but the lack of money prevents that.

The last couple days I have upped my calorie intake because I was eating far too little for my amount of exercise. I sslept in and kipped a day of workout to let my body recover, drank plenty of water, and wham - my weight dropped. Yesterday I ate a very healthy 1540 calories and only went for a run which burned 277 cals. At the end of the night, add in 2 small cocktails to raise my calorie intake even more, so I probably finished the day at about 1750-1800 cals. I weighed in this morning at 106.4. Pleasant.

As far as my workouts, I believe my body is becoming "accustomed" to my 5 mile a day runs, so it is not responding. Beginning on Monday, I am adding different cardio workouts in to my routines -- jumping rope, sprinting, jumping (all this will be done in the convenience of my work place), etc, so I will only be running every other day. Hopefully this will help kickstart my metabolism and I will feel even better, because yesterday and today I felt like a whole new person.

Weight Loss Calorie deficit help? Sep 28 2007

Bump.

No one ever answers my questions about these things. Frown

I'm trying to figure out what my deficit is, how much I should/shouldn't be working out, how much I need to be eating on my workout days, how much I need to be eating on my non-workout days, what my actual activity level is, etc.

Someone out there has got to be able to help me understand all this!... or at least nice enough to try to help me...

Haha here we go... I'm a reality junkie. Why I'm so interested in these people's lives is beyond me.

The Hills, Newport Harbor, Deal or No Deal, CMT's Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (a girl from my high school is on the show!)

Really? I didn't think that was very active... I know running 4-5 miles is pretty vigorous. But my other conditioning is very... non-vigorous, haha. And the rest of the day I'm just hanging around the apartment, watching TV, getting minor things done. I guess I didn't realize it was very active. Well ok then, I suppose I should be eating more then!!

foxfire... no offense taken. I realize I'm a little too concerned. I don't think I'm quite obsessive. I used to have an ED and what I am now is WAY different than what I was then. I'm just very critical of myself, and it stems from my past with eating disorders. I'm a firm believer that people with eating disorders never FULLY recover. It's something that it always going to be with us, whether we like it or not. Unfortunately, my demon criticizes me too much, and I'm an idiot for listening to it... but I'm trying. I know I am not fat. I know I am not even close. But sometimes I'll get WAY too critical and it just sets everything else on fire. I was at work tonight, and I was like "I'm an idiot. I look great. I feel great. There are people out there with worse conditions than myself and I need to be more positive." And that helped. Sometimes I just need my inner psychologist to speak up - that's all. But I do understand I'm too critical of myself... but I've always been that way. And I am working on it! :o) But thank you for your advice!

Thanks angie, though, for your concern.

On another note... I'm having a hard time understanding calorie deficits and whatnot. Is there anyone out there that can message me and we can talk and you can help me understand everything. I'm not sure what I should be setting my activity level at. Someone suggested setting it at sedentary and then logging my exercises. So then if I set my activity level at moderately (which is what I am), should I then not log my exercises? I'm so confused!

Thanks everyone.

I do eat veggies. A lot of them actually. I just didn't have any yesterday. As for drinks, I do count my calories in drinks. Yesterday was just a water day. The only other drinks I usually have are orange juice and milk. I also use peanut butter daily, on my bread usually. Toasted, or as a PBJ sammich.

I'm trying really hard to get in all my calories. I'm in a big slump right now because I basically feel like CRAP. But I'm trying real hard :)

Yes. That's on CC. On all other BMI charts, it's shown as normal. I've always read on here that CC's BMI readings are lower than all the other ones. So I don't know...

Yeah, I'm taking today off. I haven't gotten much sleep this week so I took today to sleep in a little bit. I'm going to run all my errands and clean the apartment today instead of my usual run, shower, eat, work schedule. Hopefully it'll help a little.

I wish I had a gym membership to change up my exercise routine a little. I do all my running outside so there's not much I can do to change it. I've added in some sprints... but I can only sprint so far due to bad ankles and knees. What other things can I do to change up my exercise routine a little bit?

The weight gain may also have something to do with that when I reached my goal of 105, I did allow myself to be eating more of the processed foods/carbs. I was eating them, but limiting them. But when I reached my goal, I allowed myself more of them. Maybe that's contributing?

If it's muscle, which I hope it would be, how do I get rid of the fat then?!

Ahh!

And yes, I can see a difference in my face. I dunno if anyone else can, but I see and feel it. And it's driving me bonkers! Undecided

Fitness Riddle me this... Sep 26 2007
18:32 (UTC)
Aha... maybe I'll use the "playing with children - moderate level", and log an hour of that. I worked up a good sweat with my 3 year olds today... I had the "boob sweat" drippage. Haha. So maybe I'll just count my 3 hours of coaching as an hour of "playing with children" and leave it at that!

Yeah I think 400 is a little high too. I'm trying to google it, but not having much luck. I'm not sure exactly how big it is. The typical soft pretzel you would get at a sports event...

If I liked the whole egg... I would eat the whole thing! But I can't stand yolk!

I need to be trying to eat more than 1200 though, based on my activity level. I run 5 miles a day, which burns 400-410 calories. Add in any substitute teaching (not every day), coaching gymnastics (running afer 3 and 4 year olds can be quite the workout!), light conditioning... I'm supposedly supposed to be eating more like 1700 cals. But that number scares the living daylights outta me!

I just need like a doctor or someone to just be able to tell me "If you eat 1800 calories a day, those 2 lbs. will be GONE!

Today wasn't a problem... as I just went on a "Gosh-I-feel-disgusting, yet-I'm-not-eating-enough-cals binge. Although the total calories today probably comes to 2100 or so, that's a TON for me compared to what I've been eating.

Right now I'm planning my menu for tomorrow. Even with this I'm having a hard time just getting to 1200. I don't know what else to add to get my calories up without feeling super full! Not to mention it's going to take a lot of willpower... but I'm going to the Detroit Tigers game, so I have to really try not to eat the stadium food. IF anything, a soft pretzel. I'm bringing my dinner with me so hopefully that will subside any cravings. Wish me luck on that one!

Me me! Well... I graduated in June. Still looking for a job, but subbing in the meantime. Hoping to get my foot in the door and at least land a long-term subbing position...

...I was an Early Childhood minor so I love teaching the little ones. Although I don't mind 4-5th grade either. Definitely will NOT teach middle school, not a chance. Sure, I'll sub for them, but I won't teach them. No way, no how, na uh! :o)

Just bought some! I was raised on Skippy PB... but when I moved away to college I switched over to Jif. But after being home for the weekend and indulging in Skippy PB again, I went back :) It's been 5 years since I ate Skippy! And even though my jar of Jif isn't empty yet (it's got a few more tablespoons in there), I still came home, opened the Skippy Natural, and dug my finger in. I just had to get a taste!
