Calorie Count Calories burned reported on HRM seem WRONG Aug 07 2009
23:34 (UTC)

arg I have been having the same issues. I just bought mine about a month and a half ago. It seems to happen at the beginning of my workouts, but all of a sudden it will jump from 170 to 45 or 00! It is so frustrating because I make sure I wet the strap, its tight, I readjust it when this happens and it doesnt help...I am thinking I need to call Polar....
I have noticed that the machines at my YMCA pick up my HR from my strap, and this never misreads, while the watch still does....so it must be the watch right?

Also, it never misreads my HR when I am in exercise mode (1 push of the OK button) but when I go into Own Zone it starts acting up...

Very frustrating

Weight Loss yoga? Jul 29 2009
02:10 (UTC)

Any of the Rodney Yee videos are good, and they range from beginner to very advanced (which is quite challenging, lots of arm balances.)
Although, yoga doesn't burn very many calories. If you do advanced practice (which takes lots of skill and time to build up to) it will strengthen muscles, but it won't get your HR up too much (I have worn my HRM during some of my classes.)
Yoga (flexibility) should be seen as a portion of physical fitness, next to strength training and cardio.

The Lounge Obama's healthcare ideas? Jul 26 2009
21:34 (UTC)

It isn't that people should be denied health care. It is the implications for the country's population if health care is run by the government. Look at other countries who have tried this. It doesn't work. The states that have implimented it are bankrupt. People from Canada come to the USA for health care because they are put on a waiting list. I want the freedom to go to the doctor of my choice, when I choose. I don't want the government having that kind of control over my body. Sure they say you can have private insurance still, but there will be an extra fee and eventually private health care will be so expensive that it won't be offered through benefits at work, therefore forcing you to use government coverage. What we have isn't perfect, and it needs improved, but it is disturbing how fast Obama is trying to push this through (while he still has the politcal clout to do it.) It needs more time and study, thought and reflection. Congress needs time to actually read the thousand plus pages they will be given this time......

Fitness Calories burnt - believe activity log or the treadmill? Jul 12 2009

I just got a heart rate monitor and it says I am burning LESS on the treadmill (more if I run outside) than it says...which is depressing, but helpful and motivating at the same time.

Foods Measuring/weighing bananas? Jul 07 2009

I usually do it by the sliced by the cup option (it will indicate how many ounces this is according to CC) I then weigh my banana to check how close it is and then edit the cup amount (.5, .33, .75 etc.)

Weight Loss Im knew Help Aug 29 2008

Hello!
http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calc ulator.htm

I LOVE this website. The calories it gives you are higher than what CC recommends you eat, but I started following this (eating at or above my BMR or basal metabolic rate and I have started losing more weight) If you also want to know nutrient ratios, look at the top and click on macro nutrient ratios. Once you have decided how much you are going to eat calorie wise, this will help break it down for you.

Good luck! :)

Fitness Deceptive Treadmill readout? Aug 25 2008
03:26 (UTC)

The treadmill probably doesnt take into account your weight/ heart rate. It is just an estimate. I go to the YMCA and I have this really awesome smart key that programs the machines to count calories based on my height/weight/age but they are ALL estimations.

sheibar, thanks so much for all of your informative posts! I have read through a lot of them and I am revamping my approach. I am in the same situation as erifica ( I have only been eating 1300 a day with a burn meter of 2300 ish- my BMR is 1445.) I will be slowly upping my food to around 1500/1600.
How did you become so knowledgable? I had never heard of the Katch-McArdle before.

If you want to save calories (and some money) try an iced Americano (hot espresso poured over ice with water added ) with 1 ounce of half and half. I usually put sugar free vanilla or coconut in it (I work at an independant coffee shop) but it only has 40 calories and I think it tastes like an iced latte. It is my favorite drink :)

jamminatorr:

I belive I said 125/120 in my original posts
If you look on
http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/
AND
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/bmi-calculat or/NU00597
I would be in a healthy range....mayo clinic...pretty credible.
They are estimates, as is the one on this site.
I eat a balanced diet of whole grains, unprocessed foods, proteins, fruits and veggies and I am an avid runner with a body fat percentage of 19% which is athletic, with a small bone frame. I am looking to lose more to help bring out more muscle definition in my arms and legs. I AM trying to be healthy in my diet by asking people what their thoughts on about how much I am eating. I am not fighting eating more, I would love to.

Yeah I have been bad about my scale. I enjoy progress!
I know a lot about nutrition and I appreciate people's encouragement about focusing on a healthy life style etc. We all lose sight at times. Sometimes you need people to say "chill out" or duh its just water weight.

Thanks to those who read and replied to my questions!

Thanks for the reply...
I know I am AT LEAST getting a 500 calorie deficit...most days it is around 800...Even at Sedentary my burn meter plus exercise creates a deficit of 800
Maybe it is muscle...my body fat is around 18-19%

Blah so frustrating
