That's amazing. It always gives me the warm and fuzzies when kids do things like this.

Both my uncle and my cousin work on that base. It took us a long time yesterday to hear from them and make sure that they were alright, but in fact, they are.

My heart goes out to all the families that weren't as lucky as ours was.

Sounds good to me. Do you want to pick a date to check in? Generally that seems to work. Keeps you on track at least a little.

Do you want to just keep going back to this thread and updating here?? or we can make it a journal thing.

I need to do the same thing. Just go cold turkey. But I'm terrified of the weight gain.

Stupid cigarettes.

The Lounge Has Any Relationship Ever Made it Through A Big Weight Loss? Sep 30 2009

I lost over 100 pounds between June of 2007 and June of 2008. My relationship went down hill from there. I know this isn't exactly reassuring, but I was with him for almost eight years at that point and he had known me no other way than fat. I wasn't fat anymore and I started dressing for my new body type. I could wear skirts and smaller shirts and cuter shoes. He didn't approve and showed it, actually became entirely unsupportive and said he missed the "old" me. I was so completely offended that it just ate at the two of us. Eventually I left him. I'm happier now.

It really could have been that the relationship was broken long before my change, and is really likely. We started dating when we were 16 though, so I think it might have been a little harder to let go when you've been together through nearly everything. This was just the last straw.

For the most part, I don't think my relationship was the norm. I'd imagine that most strong relationships can get through something like this. Especially with communication. I have no real suggestions on how to get him to understand, but trying bringing it up every once in a while to reassure him that this is for you and not for anyone else.

My mother took my little sister to church when she was about 3 and was trying to explain to her that this was "God's house". My sister, contemplating this, was watching the priest walk down the aisle. She looks at my mother and says, "Is that God?!". The church was silent, everyone heard her, even the priest was laughing.

My mother and father were sitting in the living room discussing the big draft that was coming underneath the front door and how to stop it. My little sister, is listening to them with a look of horror on her face. My mother turns to her and asks her what's wrong and my sister says, "There's a big girrraaafffeee coming under the door?????".

She was a cute kid. Very literal.

I'm the Merchandising Coordinator for Bedding and Furniture (and now TVs) at a smallish company (15 stores).

It's mostly inventory analysis, order placement, vendor relations, product placement. That kind of thing. I work at a desk for the most part, but I do get to travel to the stores on occasion.

I like it most of the time. It's interesting learning how much work actually goes into putting products out into a store.

The second you think "Now. This moment. This is perfection." The moment shifts.

This. I love it. Very very true.

But, as much as I think that it's a great idea to give yourself some time to be alone, I think it's also a good idea to put yourself out there. There's just so many people to meet and connections to make than you never had time to before. My favorite part about being single now is getting to meet new people I never would have otherwise. Am I really looking to be getting married any time soon? No. But I'm enjoying the dating scene for what it is.
Who doesn't love a rollercoaster now and again? Enjoy the ride.

As for being set up? Nah. I'd skip that too almost always and no matter who was doing the set up. I just feel like there's too much expectation from something like that. I like my expectations to hang around the mid line, but that's just me. =)

If he's scared off by an exclusivity conversation, then perhaps he's not looking for the same thing in a relationship that you are, right?  So I see nothing wrong with broaching the subject in a relatively circumspect manner.

Good. That's what I was thinking.

I'm not sure that would really qualify you as old fashioned, because that's about the same page that I'm on right now. I would hate to wait that long in this and find out it was something comepletely different than I thought it was.

No, we haven't talked exclusive yet. The closest we came to that was a quick conversation, "I'm not going to sleep with you if you're sleeping with other people". It's a safety and respect thing for me.

The first time I read it, I finished in less than two days. I swear I thought my eyes were about to start bleeding.
It's definitely on my favorites list of King's novels. I would also suggest the Dark Tower series, which happens to be my favorite series ever. =)

The Lounge meeting people in real life that you've met online...done it? Jun 29 2009

I've been meeting people I talk to online for a couple months now. I've been on about 5 or 6 dates with different guys, in obviously public places. Some of them were nice, other ones were not, some were creepy, etc.

The one I'm "seeing" now is fantastic. We talked online for a few weeks and then spent the next week or two on the phone for hours at a time. I met him, he was cute, sweet, funny and just generally fantastic. We clicked. I've been seeing him ever since (ok, well not that long, but about 3 weeks now).
I really like meeting people that I talk to online. It's nice to get to know someone before you meet them. There's no blind date feel to it as long as both of you are honest about what you look like (if you're talking a dating site, otherwise, a friendship thing wouldn't relate to the looks department).

Overall, I've really enjoyed meeting people online this way. Some people think it's weird, but I've had a lot better luck meeting really nice guys online than I have in real life. I wouldn't even know where to start looking honestly. =)

I'm sure this isn't going to help everyone, but as soon as I feel like I'm going to eat the whole world, I just keep saying to myself, "I'm not going to be the fat one, I'm just not".

Talking to myself really seems to help and if nothing is going to talk me down from that binge, I find that drinking A LOT of water and then brushing my teeth generally makes me feel icky enough to not want to eat.

Or, just finding something to occupy my time. And salad, if I HAVE to eat. It takes forever to eat a big salad. And you can eat one under 100 calories with light dressing. That's good too.

I'm so terrified of the snacking and the weight gain that comes with quitting (for some people, not all) that I keep making excuses not to quit. I need to. This is getting ridiculous.

A friend of mine tried Chantix and I know there's a lot of people that hate it and a lot that love it. She sings it's praises every day. I'm thinking about it. Maybe look into that?

I find it extraordinarily odd that your college would not offer any sort of intro the chem course. What chemistry course are you going into when you start? Do they have you starting in organic chemistry?

What science degree are you trying to get?

Also, I agree with everyone else on the community college suggestion. Generally the classes are easier there than at a 4 year school. (well, in my experience at least)

Thanks for this. Really. I need to motivation.

I just need to keep my job, so I do whatever I can.

I'm not a huge hockey fan,  but I cheer for the Bruins and I'm hoping for a win tonight to sweep the series against Montreal. =)

Monday was a fantastic day for Boston sports - triple win: Baseball, Hockey and Basketball.

Tonight is going to be a good night. Red Sox are winning the first of a double header right now, hoping for a second win later on and at the same time, Bruins need to win again. =)
