Original Post by trustymutsi: Greek yogurt. Has the carbs, but the protein far outweighs them. Other than that, chicken, turkey -- both high in protein, no carbs, generally low fat. |

Perhaps the "diet pills" were for his significant other -- more women than men buy into the quick fix trap -- he may not actually give a flying rat's **** what he looks like. And why would you be remotely embarrassed at buying cocoa powder? (based on your "haha okay I guess I didn't really need that last one ;P" ) |

| Weight Loss | NOT meeting calorie goal | Oct 25 2009 15:57 (UTC) |

Eat more calorie dense food. A spoonful of peanut butter is 200 calories, and doesn't fill you up. Sauteing veggies in a tbsp of olive oil is 120-140 calories, and doesn't fill you up. A handful of almonds, cashews, 2% milk, etc, etc, etc. Veggies are high bulk, low calorie -- although it's great, you still have to find the room to put in other healthy calories. And it is not difficult to do. If your dietitian recommended a 1500 calorie diet, perhaps she can help you reach that goal, as well. 785 is 500 calories short of the minimum CC recommends. Under-eating is a short way to stop losing weight. Calorie Count's mission is to promote healthy and sustainable weight management.

| Weight Loss | Anyone want to join me to lose 10 lbs before Christmas? | Oct 24 2009 22:56 (UTC) |

5'2" and 110 is a 17.9 BMI -- underweight. 5'2" and 123 is a 22. BMI -- absolutely healthy. I am a little surprised that two recovered anorexics (and much like alcoholics, it's something you will always have to be aware of), would strive for weights that fall into an unhealthy BMI range. This is how the spiral into anorexia and EDs happens. Instead of focusing on some mythical number, focus on healthy eating. And enough of it. I am locking this thread, not only because it violates the PGs, but also because I don't wish to encourage any more members to get to unhealthy weights. |

As a guy, at 5' 11" and 16 years old -- you are in prime growing stage right now -- you need to eat MUCH more than you are. Depending on how much you swim and the intensity, eating upwards of 3000 cals per day (or MORE) would not be out of the question. |

You are eating a lot too little. Without even doing the research I would say you should be eating a minimum of 2500 -3000 to maintain. Use the tool on this site (the one below) to determine your baseline calories and then add your activity level (which is very active). Are you a girl or a boy -- it makes a difference. http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html

| Calorie Count | 1000 calories.... | Oct 22 2009 02:12 (UTC) |

the deficit is the difference between what you take in (calories ingested), and what you burn off (exercise, breathing, sleeping, living, etc.) You should try not to exceed a 1,000 calorie deficit (750 is usually sufficient for a decent rate of weight loss). But at the same time, you should NOT go below 1200 (and at 5'8", you really shouldn't go below 1400) -- so, if you exercise a lot, you may need to eat some more to make up for the difference.

| Motivation | Why am I always so hungry? | Oct 21 2009 20:36 (UTC) |
|
You are always hungry because you are NOT eating enough. Judging strictly on your previous posts and your sentence structure, I'm going to wager that you are a teen -- which means you should be eating a minimum of 1500 calories, IF you lay around on the sofa all day. Start eating more, you might surprise yourself and eventually LOSE weight -- it happens, honestly, truly. Undereating leads to binging, among other things.... Just say no to undereating! If you are a teen -- please check out this site for your caloric needs, CC tools are designed for those 21 and older:| http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html Calorie Count's mission is to promote healthy and sustainable weight management.

| Health & Support | Black spots on face due to dieting | Oct 20 2009 13:49 (UTC) |

You should increase to 1500 immediately, and then probably 1800 or more depending on how much exercise you do. You will gain some weight when you first up the calories -- but if you stick with it, you should lose it again after a few weeks. I suspect the black patches are due to malnourishment (just taking the multi-vitamin does not ensure coverage), regardless, you should go to a doctor and get yourself checked out. |

Original Post by alaskanmama: Alaskanmama -- I think sooner is a relative term. I recently left my husband of 24+ years. Sooner would have been better. But I don't think I went "crazy" -- and many people (his side) would say I did just what priceless7 says, above. Although they are right, in a way -- he did NOTHING!!!!! | Weight Loss | Help! Why am I not losing weight? | Oct 19 2009 19:06 (UTC) |

In all probability, you need to eat more. That's the first thing. The second thing is that you need to start lifting some weight.. 1. You are burning probably close to 3000 cals a day (I do 12 mils on the bike and burn 800+ cals according to the HRM, and eating 1600... not enough. Figure out exactly how much you are burning, then shoot for a 500 cal deficit. Look to lose 1lb per week, then you can lower it some more. 2. Lifting weights helps create muscle. Muscle burns calories more efficiently. Muscle is more dense than fat, so you will look slimmer, although your weight may not change. 3. Drink more water, and eat more frequently. And if you aren't -- eat breakfast... This appears to have a beneficial effect on regulating the metabolism -- always stoking the fire so to speak. |

Does "go crazy" mean just had it up to here with the lazy, no good, spendthrift.... Oh, sorry, got lost there for a moment.... More women are taking the initiative to leave an unhappy/unsatisfying marriage, than say, 30 years ago, but overall, I don't think assigning blame really makes a difference. Pretty much 6 of one, half dozen of the other |
