| Hello skinnyogi and thank for responding. She isn't trying to lose weight. She wants to maintain what she is at, in recent years she has struggled with health problems and just recently became healthy again. She really doesnt know how to maintain her weight because she has very little knowledge of the process. I myself included need some guidence and help with this regaurd. I am still learning and following advice from people who have been here before.
I just want her to be happy and healthy but do it the correct way that is why I made this thread in the first place. I have already contacted her about the advice given to me on this thread and made sure I checked her calculations and put them on a print out so that she could see for herself. Other than that I have nothing else to give her and im sure she will try and follow what the guidelines should be for her height to weight ratio. |

| Sorry let me clarify, I am trying to lose weight and I am eating 1250 a day on sedentary days. I was just thinking outloud hypothetically that once I reach my goal weight I may need right around 1500 calories to maintain my weight.
The calculations I am coming up with for the weight ratio to the expenditure is based purely on hearsay from other people that have told me in order to keep your current weight you eat that amount of calories per day. I will definatly let her know what she should be eating in a day to maintain her weight based on your calculations and what is reccomended on this site. Thank you for your help. |

| Vegetarian | Why do you consume dairy? | Jan 09 2008 11:58 (UTC) |

| I have personally always viewed human teeth as herbivore teeth. I have never heard that we were meant to be omnivores, but that's just me. Plus this is a vegetarian forum. I came here to talk about the benefits of being a vegetarian/ vegan.
No your topic is why do you consume dairy? This may be a vegetarian forum but I don't see a set forum for meateaters, omnivores and anyone inbetween. So whenever you post something on this forum I would say it's pretty much available to anyone that would like to respond. If we had a meat eating forum on here I am almost positive the vegans would come over to our side and try to get their points across. You can bet the bank on that one! So stop the whining about this is a vegetarian forum it's an open forum for all to read and respond to just the same as any other forum on this site. |

| Weight Loss | Let's talk moderation and portion control | Dec 31 2007 17:15 (UTC) |

| I started out on Lean cuisine meals and weightwatchers just so I could introduce myself with smaller portions. For a few months I used my old containers to put my homeade foods in just so I knew I wasn't going over my portions. You learn as you go with this, it certainly isn't instant know how. Now im full after such small meals before I would of laughed at this size and said thats the size a toddler eats. | |||

| No offense to Stanley the cat but this post is rediculous! Come on now there are struggling people on here trying to lose weight this just takes up space for the real 'humans' on here battling their way through the fat.
The nonsense on here sometimes makes me 'gasp' sigh'. |

| Weight Loss | Why is it a make or break situation? | Dec 27 2007 16:32 (UTC) |

| It's not really about a donut it's about our lack of self control in our society. If we were say a group of monkeys in the jungle there is a specific order to which they eat and how they share with others in the group. They eat to survive not because they are bored and sitting in front of a television.
I guess I didn't make my statement very clear its not the DONUT it's our control issues. Of course I eat donuts all I am trying to say is why is it so hard to say NO to foods but so easy to say NO to something else in my life and many others that have issues with this. |

| Soothing warm milk in a sippy cup, with a nice rub down with Johnsons soothing baby lotion with vicks. It will calm him down and throw in some very mello music in the background and maybe a really nice bedtime story. | |||
| Pregnancy & Parenting | How Do I Motivate My Child? *Warning LONG Post* | Dec 19 2007 18:43 (UTC) |

| Children need structure in a classroom, have you ever went into the classroom and did what is called a siton? Where you observe how your child is being taught and what methods they arrived at the conclusions. The first time I tried a siton I was very alarmed in the teaching method being used.
I would seriously consider looking into how things are being approached at school with the boredom setting in for him. He might just have some teachers that don't care if he is being challenged or not. He is slacking off in classes for many reasons right now and the teacher could be fueling some of the fire in these instances. Good teachers these days are very hard to come by and often the ones that are remarkable are often looked passed unfortunatly. Try looking into a siton and observing how your child is being taught you know he is going to behave differently with his mom there but the teaching style will still be the same. Just a thought since it was never brought up by anyone else. |

| missy, my kids are currently enrolled in public school system. They have been for many yrs. Things have been bad and I wanted them to be able to deal with them on their own and learn how to get out of bad situations. It has not worked for them and its only progressing from bad to worse. I fear for their future in public school and I fear for their innocence being totally lost.
This just didnt happen overnight mind you this was done over years and years of time. I am contemplating taking them out and doing this on my own. I guess im not contemplating anymore I am 'doing' it. I was looking for pros and cons from people who have actually been in this situation and or a product of homeschooling. I didnt make this thread for homeschooling basher time. I have been defending myself on here because it seems like im being attacked for thinking one way or another which I guess is expected of a forum setting. |

| Sammi, not to sound mean but unless you are actually going to school with kids today and in their age group or you are a parent to a child then you really don't have a clue what is actually going on in schools today.
Im not saying all public schools are bad and a bad experiece but its not just me thinking of homeschooling, ,almost half the people I know with school age children are taking them out of the public school system around here just for the reasons I have mentioned. You can say all that you want that kids dont put themselves into groups but I remember school myself and we all had little groups. Im not saying this is you but this has been my experience. You seem to be getting so upset that I am lumping children into groups let me tell you something im not. The kids are doing it themselves and parents are the ones that have to try and explain to kids that unfortunatly not everyone is going to like you but you must try and get along. This doesnt always work in my case and it hasnt. You cant always seperate yourself from violence especially if its directed at you for whatever the case may be do you see what im saying? You stayed out of it because it didnt involve you but what if it does? I am kind of tired of defending myself today on here so I will remove myself from this thread a little while and get myself composed. thanks for the comments |

| ang, this is one of the reasons I am removing my children from this environment. The story you tell of your son is classic. This has been happening with children since school has been in session. If your children are not part of the Elite club then they are fair game for being picked on dramatically. It is sad but I plan to do something about it now and take over my childs learning, so that they can actually concentrate on their work.
If you want some links to cyberschooling or charterschooling angie let me know I would be happy to forward them to you. I am not being pushy I just see the many signs of a distressed and worried mom like me. |

| Jules My kids are older I think they have had enough exposure to the newest swear word of the week for many years now. Its not just the swearing that bothers me there are so many different levels. Violence being a number 1 factor. I am concerned for their general safety. They dont have an easy time at school or a pleasant one. I dont have to answer to you about this all I have to answer to is my family and my kids future. You are entitled to your opinion but it will do nothing to sway my decision and thank you for the response. Have a wonderful day |

| The social aspect is the one im most worried about. They come home stating things that one might only hear in a bar full of sailors. I dont know how me keeping them away from this is going to hinder them socially later in life. In fact this might help them to become much better citizens. I have already made up my mind I am quitting my full-time job and starting one of the programs ASAP. My husband will have to fill all the financial needs but in mine and his eyes we see this a must have right now.
Thank you for the comments. |

| Vegetarian | Why do vegans want meatlike products? | Nov 14 2007 11:19 (UTC) |

| it can be very rude to expect a vegetarian or vegan to constantly justify their eating habits. Why does it matter to you whether she eats fake meat or not? As her friend, just support her.
It is also rude of her to expect me to support something I know nothing about that she continuously pushes down my throat. Or am I wrong about that? If you are going to preach to someone about being a vegatarian at least know all the ins and outs of it. She doesnt she has haphazardly jumped into this and expects me to do the same. I have no intentions on changing the way I eat and I am happy with it. I am happy for her as long as she isnt harming herself in anyway and not pushing me into this lifestyle that I have no intentions on living. I rest my case veggie people. |

| I have read all argument's either for this type of behavior not neccesarily for it but not against it or dead set against it.
I'm not sure what the fuss is all about here. A young teenage girl wanting to have a fling with an old neighbor friend. Yes she has a boyfriend but is unmarried and wanting to light a few flames it seems. Yes it would be deceptive to sleep with the neighbor and not tell the "mainsqueeze" what's really going on. Who at this age experimenting with sex and new bf's really told the truth 100% of the time? I know I sure have had some major flaws in my life with regards to men in my teen years. She needs to learn on her own that deceptions can cause problem's and that it's not always about giving into temptations but this will come with age and with some experience under her belt. Why do you think she is called "teenager" and not "adult"? She is learning this will come with time regrets or no regrets later on in life. This does not mean she will become a terrible cheating slut of a wife in the future. The past does not mean your future. I agree with Angie, Kerry,Kiki,Cecilyb03. They have all made good points. Angie seemed blunt and maybe hastily in her wording but I can see why she was mad over some of these statements. Like it is the end of the world for this young girl if she does have one man and string another one on. Let me tell you from experience it's not the end of the world life goes on and before you know it you are a grown adult making adult decisions and not even thinking of the past. |

| I guess there is a fine line we draw when exposing someone's physical appearance as how we percieve them. Not everyone is going to be OK with it but most I think welcome the compliment's and take it as a sign of accomplishment.
I will take note of what happened for future reference, im not one to make many comments referring to weight anyhow and im glad that I don't especially in this specific case. Thanks for the welcomed input. |

| Rena, I am also in H.R. I agree one shouldnt comment about anything on another person's body with a business standpoint. I also happen to think she is going a bit far with this. I have seen boss's come and go and previous one's have lost weight in the past. They were extatic if someone noticed they have lost weight and complimented them on it. It just depend's on the person really in how they react and to me she reacted harshly to a really harmless situation. | |||

| Update
At work today I found out that Cathy was quite upset by all the weight comment's. She felt it was rude to speak of her about the changes in her body. She felt embarrassed and also a bit inadequate as to how she was before the weightloss. She called all of the people that had mentioned her weight into her office this morning. She let them know that their intentions were good but they offended her and in a business setting its not appropriate to bring up these types of issues. Glad that I didn't say anything to her about the weightloss but also wondering what type of person they have in charge of a multimillion dollar business? If she cannot handle the slightest hand of office gossip at a corporate meeting how does she handle business transactions without wearing her heart on her sleeve? I am slightly disappointed in her reaction and in the fact she called out these people who were only trying to encourage her from what little I do know about it. |

You have more problems then just weightloss if your seeing ways to get a buzz and get high. |

| The Lounge | Do you support kids fundraisers at school? | Oct 02 2007 15:10 (UTC) |

| It's not only the fact that they are peddling high priced stuff, they are pushing it in an area that is mostly poverty. The median income for the area I live is right around 25,000 per yr. The fiance and I travel over an hour to work each way everyday just so we can make a good living. The job market here is awful, most of these kids don't have 10 cents yet alone 10 dollars to afford items that the family definatly could live without.
I don't take fundraising for granted but I do think it should be limited and maybe instead of hitting up much of the poor familys around here just barely making it. Why don't they try hitting up some of the buisness that are at least making some money in the area that could contribute to the schools. I know I have seen many moms buying stuff that they couldnt afford just so their kids wont look like the outcast, they put it on credit cards they cant afford to pay off in the first place. |

| It says I burn 2600 cals per day set at moderate level like I am now. However on vac im almost positive I will not be able to workout the rigorous workouts im doing now. Should I make this an even 2000 cals per day? Still try and throw a walk or 2 in like everyone has suggested? | |||
| Weight Loss | weight watchers pro or con? | Sep 24 2007 20:13 (UTC) |

| You can eat really crappy foods by counting calories also. It's either points or cals, it's still either do you want to make the most of your cals and put good stuff in your body or do you just want to eat crap until your cals are used up. Either way you can still lose weight. For me it's all about right sized portion's and exercise. If you exercise enough you can still eat a lot of junk and maintain your weight and be fine because your burning it off.
That's why small children can eat crap all day and still stay thin. Im not saying its a good thing but if your a junk eater it also doesnt mean you have to cut it all out. |

| On a side note, Spirochete have you ever actually tried any of the workouts to come up with this conclusion? I mean to be very fair about this you would of had to try them all out and then give this type of opinion, otherwise you just don't know if they work or not. Whats good for the goose isn't always good for the gander. Don't knock it if you have'nt tried it.
For some people anything is better than nothing at all and in this case if this motivates one to get off of their a$$ and start working out at something. All the power to them I say. |

| I feel for you michelle, I have children that drive me to the point of insanity sometimes. Sometimes peoples households are not the leave it to beaver lifestyle. My son who is 14 wants to chat on the internet day and night, I have to monitor everything that he does and he has no comp in his room its in plain view in the living room. My 16 yr. old daughter Is now starting to learn how to drive enough said with that I think you can figure out the rest.
My soon to be husband is out of town 3 to 4 weeks at a clip. I feel like lovers passing in the night sometimes. I have a really shitty job and the offer I thought I had for a new one recently went down the tubes with the buisness owner who is going to prison. I can definatly feel your pain, take a mini-me as I call them. Get some time to yourself to do whatever it is that you love. Make sure you have somewhere for the children to go for a few hours and just indulge for yourself. You deserve it thats for sure. |

| I watched an episode of 'dirty jobs' they were doing the farmraised fish. They load them all up with antibiotics and many other things. Just doesnt look all that healthy to eat once they are done treating them with all types of chemicals. The talapia are in fact poo eaters as said above. They feast on all the stuff that the other fish were pooping out and that is what they lived on. The bottom line of fish. They showed Mike Rowe helping to move the talapia from one part of the farm to another they were just covered in poo and every other thing that is disqusting that was left over from other fish. | |||

| Inspections are great, but make sure you do your homework on your inspector like with anything it's good and bad. If your wanting to live in an older home in a location that is cold a good part of the year, make sure its a home that can be well insulated or is already insulated. Remember a stud house is easy to insulate, an old plank home can only really be insulated where the siding is put up underneath. Check every nook and cranny when buying a home. | |||
