Alice a 9-mile hike sound like something I couldn’t ever do. I do so admire you and all your energy, determination, and your ability to do so much. I love hiking but 9 miles is out of my reach. I’m heading back to OK tomorrow and I’ll be home sometime Monday. My sister in law has another dentist appointment Monday and we don’t want to have to drive early morning and have to really watch for the deer. They are thick this year several every evening are being hit on the highways. To think until about 15 yrs ago it was unheard of in our area. Margie this is the first time ever our family will not be together at Thanksgiving. My daughter and her girls and grandkids are going to Nebraska. My sister works till 12.30 and I will not leave her by herself. This is the first time our oldest grand daughter has had it at her home and I really don’t blame her for wanting everyone there. Guess my sister, Marvin and self will go out and eat. Or maybe stay home and eat a TV dinner. Haha Everyone have a great holiday if we don’t met here again before turkey time. God bless you all Donna

Margie I'm so glad you are better now. OK where are you gals? I just got back from Branson MO again. Had another great time. I think that is the last of MO for awhile. I am getting ready to go to lunch with friends-- "think good choices." Water, Exercise, good choices will get me to Skinnyville. |

Margie- I hope by now you are over the flu. I’m baby setting as my g. g.daugter has been running a fever and of course they won’t take her to the daycare center. I wouldn’t want anyone else taking care of her but family when she is sick. Alice we all know when we have an injury rest is the best. When I injured my knee and it started feeling better I walked at the cancer relay for life and that was too much to soon and set me back by several weeks. I also still use my knee wrap. The weather is great and I still can’t believe 70 degree in Nov. Carol- No I have never done the pilates with or without the reformer. I have a friend that use to do the pilates but I haven’t heard her say anything about it lately. Seems to be talk about a program “Food Lovers” that sounds a lot like the Provida program. But with this you can eat a lot of thing that is a NO-NO on Provida.I certainly can’t knock Provida as I lost so good on it but I got so tired of the same stuff day after day. I wonder if it’s a sister program because you can order the protein powder and vitamins from Provida. Guess I’d better get my breakfast and get ready for Kaydra. I hope to get more exercise in today. See this is my problem I should be exercising this AM and posting this evening.

I am once again back on track. Eating is good and I'm writing it down. I think that is the key and I know I need to do it daily but I start then quit. A friend of mine and self are heading to the woods for an afternoon or hiking and picture taking. So I should get plenty of great exercise in today. |

Margie No! You do not have to accept being fat. You know it’s the eating the right proportions and leaving the junk along that keeps you from getting fat, the exercise is the plan that takes the icing off the cake, but it’s the eating correctly that takes away the cake. If there is no cake then there isn’t much for the icing to stick to. 80 %-20% and you can lose without that 20%. Carol I know I gained when I couldn’t exercise but I never refigured my calories and I know I need more when I exercise as hard as I was before my knee injury. Now it’s just trying to get my mind back to where I crave the exercise and not the junk. Like today I watched everything I ate then went to my son-in-laws and I was setting there visiting with him the next thing I noticed is I had consumed several handfuls of M & M. Strnge I use to never reach for sweets now my hand just automatically goes for them. Alice I have had better and I’ve had worse than the Tofu pudding but next time I’ll add a bit more orange and they didn’t have the silk only the firm tofu. I don’t know if that would make a difference or not. I also had the knee brace but I just used the cheap Wal-Mart one. When I used the brace on my carpel tunnel I used the expensive one and Medicare and Blue Cross took care of it. Go- girl go—147 coming up soon—real soon. Now if I can get that 148 back I’d be doing a happy dance but last few weeks it’s gone the other way. But li8ke I said my hand keeps reaching. GRRRRR!

Alice I know that is the way it should be -- but-- this is a small town and there are many times that things slip out from the system. Mt granddaughter works hand in hand with the SRS and you wouldn't believe the things that slip out. My daughter is a nurse and same thing there - seems like Iola thrives on the "Did you hear"? Serisa is looking for a new daycare now. I'm almost to the point of staying home till she can find one. I need to get my mind change and I think the body will follow but I gained it one meal at a time and that is the only way I can get this done-- one meal at a time. Have you tried the green tea tablets? I bought some and I'll see if it helps, or maybe it's just the whole glass of water you drink with it that works, either way I hope it helps. My weight was 148 now it's 186-- why did I let this happen? In 2 yrs I've done that much damage to my health. |

I was gone for about a week came back and now am baby setting. The regular baby setter’s two kids (teens) have the flu and are at the day care center. Serisa will not leave Kaydra there until their fever has broken and they can go back to school. Now get this—because she did not close the center all the mothers that choice not to take their children around there has to pay full price like they when they are attending. I think this is wrong and Serisa called Kaydra health care provider and he said do not take her around the teens. He also said she should report the center to the state because they are operating knowing they have a contagious disease. But you know if she does the center will find a reason not to take Kaydra back. And the other centers have no opening for 6 months. Ahhh the joys of finding things in a small town. Margie I’m glad your headaches are getting better now. Speaking of exercise I bought the new Wii fitness plus and have only used it once in a week. Seems like I get up have an hour to myself and then it’s nighttime and time to go to bed. My time goes fast. Carol I wish I could say I lost two ponds but I have gained 5 since I went on vacation for the week. Not good I’m now up 35 pounds. Darn this battle is really hard this time. Alice I know I need to spend more time moving than setting but sometimes you need to hit a happy medium I use to be on the computer about 6 hrs a-day—that was way to much time setting but now I’m doing other things and haven’t lost an ounce. Of course when I was gone we ate 3 meals a day out for almost a week. And no—I didn’t make the best choices when I ordered so again it’s my fault for not doing as I know I should. Everyone let's really try our best now. Donna

Alice We have had more than our share of rain this year. We got another 5 inches on Friday. The rivers are bank full, I haven't seen dust sense June. My scales hasn't moved yet but I'm getting back to more exercise and again doing the meal journal. Seems like I do it for awhile then I slack off. Wonder where Carol is? She hasn't been here for awhile. I know she is on facebook but I'm not sure how to find her as I don't have her email address. Is everyone getting in their water? Before you tear into that bag of potato chips, drink a glass of water first. People sometimes confuse thirst with hunger, so you can end up eating extra calories when an ice-cold glass of water is really all you needed. If plain water doesn't cut it, try drinking flavored sparkling water or brewing a cup of fruit-infused herbal tea. Mindless eating occurs most frequently after dinner, when you finally sit down and relax. Snacking in front of the TV is one of the easiest ways to throw your diet off course. Either close down the kitchen after a certain hour, or allow yourself a low-calorie snack, like a 100-calorie pack of cookies or a half-cup scoop of low-fat ice cream Instead of cutting out your favorite foods altogether, be a slim shopper. Buy one fresh bakery cookie instead of a box, or a small portion of candy from the bulk bins instead of a whole bag. You can still enjoy your favorite foods — the key is moderation. If you eat fewer calories than you burn, you'll lose weight. But when you're hungry all the time, eating fewer calories can be a challenge. "Studies show people who eat 4-5 meals or snacks per day are better able to control their appetite and weight," says obesity researcher Rebecca Reeves, DrPH, RD. She recommends dividing your daily calories into smaller meals or snacks and enjoying most of them earlier in the day — dinner should be the last time you eat. Protein is the ultimate fill-me-up food — it's more satisfying than carbs or fats and keeps you feeling full for longer. It also helps preserve muscle mass and encourages fat burning. So be sure to incorporate healthy proteins like lean meat, yogurt, cheese, nuts, or beans into your meals and snacks. Add spices or chiles to your food for a flavor boost that can help you feel satisfied. "Food that is loaded with flavor will stimulate your taste buds and be more satisfying, so you won't eat as much," says American Dietetic Association spokeswoman Malena Perdomo, RD. When you need something sweet, suck on a red-hot fireball candy. It's sweet, spicy, and low in calories. Having ready-to-eat snacks and meals-in-minutes on hand sets you up for success. You'll be less likely to hit the drive-through or call in a pizza order if you can throw together a healthy meal in five or 10 minutes. Here are some essentials to keep on hand: frozen vegetables, whole-grain pasta, reduced-fat cheese, canned tomatoes, canned beans, pre-cooked grilled chicken breast, whole grain tortillas or pitas, and bags of salad greens. Ordering a child-size entree is a great way to cut calories and keep your portions reasonable. This has become such a popular trend that most servers won't bat an eye when you order off the kids' menu. Another trick is to use smaller plates. This helps the portions look like more, and if your mind is satisfied, your stomach likely will be, too. Simply by eating less pasta or bread and more veggies, you could lose a dress or pants size in a year. "You can save from 100-200 calories if you reduce the portion of starch on your plate and increase the amount of vegetables," says Cynthia Sass, RD, a spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association. |

Margie I have started back doing the Red and my bands. It's just so easy once you get them out, dust them off and get started. I'm glad the scales are moving now you just keep it up. Alice I went to the store and bought 12 cans of pumpkin, sounds like there is a shortage on it. I don't even want to know what my body fat, it may scare me into a fit. haha I'm back to the exercising now so I'm sure mine will change. I've not done so great on the water today, I was gone and forgot to grab my water but I'm drink it tonight-- that may not be so great doing it so late at night. haha |

I love it and am looking for different ways to fix. What kind of soup do you like? The flu has hit here hard. There was 250 kids out of class yesterday so they are closing down till Monday. One confirmed care of the H1N1. not good-- hate to hear it is here around our kids. I hope they get the vacine out soon. |

Hi gals Well here I am again. I went with my sister in law to get her teeth pulled she goes to OK because of the difference in the price. We left Tue and came home Thursday. But Wed evening I came down with the creeping crud. Still not up to par but am feeling better. Hope I'm well enough to attend church tomorrow but sure don't want to spread my germs. Margie you may just have water gain. Drink that water and flush the weight away. Well I thought maybe Dess and some of the other gals would stick around again but poof and they are gone. Going to turn in now. Everyone have a great weekend. Donna |

Margie we had a great time. I guess next year we want to meet in Colorado. Even with all our eating with bad choices I never gained but then again we walked miles.Jane said she had signed up with you on selling Avon. That’s great everyone you get under you sure will help the $$. Alice I went to exercise today and all went fine. We walked miles over the week-end but not sure how many my battery was dead and I didn’t know it till we got to the fair. I didn’t get my water in over the weekend so am trying to get in 100 oz today. Here comes the lightning again so guess I’d better get off here.See you later I’m going to Ok. Tomorrow and won’t be back till Thursday. |

Well hi Dess glad you decided to join us again. We are wanting to get back to the basics and having us here together is the first step in climbing to the top. We are doing a water challenge- then we will add something else maybe adding 5 minutes to our walking, or what ever we can come up with. I think I need a challenge to write things down and quit guessing how much I eat. I stocked up on the Smart one dinners maybe if I will eat one a day with a little fruit on the side that will get my tummy to remembering I over eat.I don't need so much food to keep me satisfied. Now to convince my mind of that. I have got to go drink some more water-- then you know where I'll be heading. Flushing out the fat. One bottle -then two - then three adds up to on a step closer to losing weight. I'm doing the 100 oz.

Margie- I am so proud of you the way you are sticking to plan. I did get out and walk about 2 miles today but I didn’t run. Not sure I could jog let alone run. I walked to the baby setters to get my grandson and walked him to school then walked to my granddaughter’s house and from there she and I walked to my house. Then I walked back to school to get Gage and back home. Must admit I felt a little week in the legs but that was the most I had walked sense the Relay for life walk. I walked 3 ½ hrs nonstop then. That is when I re-injured my knee but it had long ago healed so now is the time to get with it. How is everyone doing with the water? I’m about to float. Lol Hey I may take you up on heading your way this winter I hate the cold. Wouldn’t you be surprised if the gals all showed up at your place? OK heading to bed then to the basement at the church tomorrow. That is the last day I’ll be working there till next week. Baby setting for Kaydra Wed.-Thu and heading to Wichita Friday. I am sooo looking forward to meeting the gals.

Had a little problem with a program I downloaded it wanted to take over my computer. I know better but – oh well got to get into trouble once in awhile. Took it in to the computer Doctor—and he had to take it out. It really was hid well. Not doing at all well on my eating—my fault I have eaten out almost daily and not making wise choices, but today is a new beginning- well anyway till Friday and we are going out of town for 3 days. Here I go again—Applebee’s, Ryan’s, Braums—sure it can be wise choices but --- BUT! Don’t think Braums is the most diet friendly place but they have the best-frozen yogurt ever. Margie did you find some good running shoes? I use propet. I really like them. They are a bit pricier than some but still in a middle range price wise. They last a nice long time and guaranteed 1,000 miles. Still don’t know how that works. But anyway I get several years out of them. Hi german12—and welcome. Yes please come back and post often. Those who post and have support seems to do better. It’s harder to fall and stay down if you are being watched. We love to receive advice, we also try to give GOOD advice and never do we put anyone down—including ourselves. Yes we get a bit huffy when we don’t do as we think we should. Like I’m miffed at myself for eating out so much and not getting my exercise in as I should. I hurt my knee a couple of months ago and gosh that has been my BAD excuse for 2 months now—any excuse is just our way to ok ourselves from what we don’t want to do—or do what we know we shouldn’t. Even when my knee was at the worse, I could have been doing things like going to the gym and working on low impact machines, swimming at the motel, working with my bands, using the Red, using the weight balls. Yep—it was just an excuse for me to ok myself from what I didn’t want to do. Alice you always seem to be in charge of your head at all times. You have done so well on this program wish I would follow in your footprints. But each of us needs to follow our own paths and only I can decide my own way to Skinnyville. I’m just glad you all are here to encourage me on. I’m heading to church to do more for the church sale. Seems like I live there this month and it will be just a few weeks till I’m done. The sale is Oct. 8-9-10. And I know we will say again – “ this is the last time”- and of course we will be doing it again next year. Some of the gals I have met on another Internet chat group similar to this one –we are meeting in Ks to go to the state fair. One is flying in from Organ, they are coming from Co, Tx. and Ne. not sure but last count there are 8 of us wanting to meet for the weekend. This should be soooo much fun. We have been chat friends some sense 05. It will be great to met them face to face. Donna

Keep up the good work gals. How Much Water Do You Need? How can you know if you’re getting enough water to keep your metabolism cranking at peak efficiency and your digestive system functioning? The formula used to be “one size fits all” -- eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day. But that’s changed, experts say. “It depends on your size and weight, and also on your activity level and where you live,” Nessler says. “In general, you should try to drink between half an ounce and an ounce of water for each pound you weigh, every day.” For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, that would be 75 to 150 ounces of water a day. If you’re living in a hot climate and exercising a lot, you’d be on the higher end of that range; if you’re in a cooler climate and mostly sedentary, you’d need less. The single biggest cause of painful kidney stones is chronic dehydration. When you don’t get enough water, calcium and other minerals build up in your urine and are harder for your body to filter out. They can form the crystals that make up kidney and urinary stones. Water’s involved in every type of cellular process in your body, and when you’re dehydrated, they all run less efficiently -- and that includes your metabolism. Think of it like your car: if you have enough oil and gas, it will run more efficiently. It’s the same with your body.” It’s also very difficult for the body to tell the difference between hunger and thirst. So if you’re walking around feeling a gnawing sense of hunger, you might just be dehydrated. Try drinking a glass of water instead of grabbing a snack. But getting enough water doesn’t just help you regulate how much you eat -- it helps you digest it properly, as well. “Water allows your kidneys to function properly and filter everything they need to, and allows us to eliminate effectively and not be constipated,” Melton says. “People who don’t get enough fluids in their diet tend to be constipated.” |

Alice that is great –148. I’d love to get to 150 that was what I did weigh but sorry to say I weighed in at 180 this week. It has been a couple of years sense I seen the 150. I wish I could get this weight off. Humm you think I better quit wishing and get busy and work it off? Don’t think this wishing is doing a bit of good. Tomorrow it’s back in the church basement for me. May not see day light again for a month. We are starting the marking for the big church sale. I go to the basement because I’m about the only one that can stand the musty smell and the old dampness. Guess my smoking for years coated my lungs that nothing bothers them now. Lol Sure glad I don’t do that any longer- as if I could afford it. The price now is really expensive. I went to play bingo last night only the third time I have ever played at a hall. I won the last jackpot it was worth $120.00. I was really shocked that I won. Glad but shocked. Carol yes it would be so easy especially if you’re hurting just to give up. You are such an inspiration to me that you hurt and yet you just keep plugging away. Keep it up but don’t hurt yourself, some-days it’s better not to give up but to take it easy. You know your body and how far it will let you push it before it rebels. Margie one time Marvin had an ingrown hair in the back of his neck. I did the same thing and went in and dug it out. He had a big hole – how can something so small hurt so and leave a hole that large. I think it was about a month before the redness and swelling went down. So great your scales went down 2 pounds. Hope mine will do that my next weigh in not this Monday but next. I’m looking for something and was wondering if you can help me. I need the P mint for the following states. Alaska, California, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri and believe it or not Kansas. Here I live in Kansas and can’t get the P mint. Would you mind looking and if you find one send it to me? I’ll post my address if you happen to find one. Guess I’d better get in and get my kitchen cleaned. I’m staying put this weekend we use to always go camping but long ago gave up the camping. Sometimes I really miss it other times I remember the bugs, heat, the packing and unpacking the camper and glad we don’t have that to do. We never had AC in the camper and Kansas had 100 % humidity most of the summer. Hot as hot can be.

Still need to get a lot done for the church sale it isn't untill Oct but we have so many items alread to be marked and not enough help in that department. You know how it is everyone is willing to do till it comes time to do it. lol I'm at a stand still no weight loss but no gain either. But still need to get back to the butt kicking exercise. Hope to get to the gyn next week. Water intake is good- exercise not good and that is my main thing I love to do. Eating is so-so but need to do more journal. Run, walk, bend, squat-- whatever works for you.Drink that water and write that journal. Yep that's what I need to do. |

Carol I hope your back soon is feeling strong again. My knee has finally stopped giving me fits. I will start off slow tomorrow on my exercise, as it has been a while sense I have been able to do a good workout. The college gym is now open so I will be hitting it a couple times a week now. I’ll also get to my Wii and try to make it a daily thing. I want to use the Red also but I’ll wait a week or so on that one. Margie- I know sometimes the scales go up for no reason, that’s why I prefer the tape measure to the scales. I think even an inch off of where you weighed the last time will change your weight. I have marked a spot on my floor but every time I mop the mark is gone. I know the same with the tape if you don’t get it in the same spot it will be different, but I measure right across my bellybutton and so far I think that is the best. I know that is not the correct measuring spot but it works for me. I went to another health care provider and he explained everything so much better and it doesn’t seem as serious as I first thought. Yes to the CAT scan in 3 months just to get another reading but they think things will be fine.I am getting my water in and by tomorrow I hope to say I’m getting my exercise in also.

Well my test are back and still don’t know much but what I know I don’t like. I have hundreds of pockets in the bowel lining and the CAT scan and colonoscopy shows a very bad infection. They said I was very luck as my colon was on the verge of bursting when I was hurting so bad. The pictures showed dark red and pits and a lot of infection. There is still infection and the hard area that they don’t know why or what it is, but they said it showed no cancer cells. If I have any pain at all I’m to go directly to the hospital and they said there were signs of the tissues trying to die. What does that all mean? It means every 6 months I’ll have a CAT scan and possible colonoscopy from now on. They really want to keep on top of this. But you know what I think? This to shall pass. |
