| Foods | Sara Lee Multigrain 45 calorie a slice bread! | Nov 12 2009 22:08 (UTC) |

Sorry dnsmills...in some foods they do, and in some foods they don't. I don't know why it is like that....but I also know that it varies from one country to the next. In Canada, they DO count the fiber as cals...if you look at the calories in Kashi, the American is a lot lower in calories than ours....which sucked the first time we finally could buy it here. I had been buying it State side, and going by the cals on that box. Then when I could buy it here, the calories were much higher. I finally found out why, and that was because Canadian food laws state that they count ALL carbs as calories...not just the net carbs....and in the US, they count insoluble fiber as 0 cals and soluble fiber as 4 cals per gram....we have to make everything soooo confusing up here!!! LOL I found this old post:http://caloriecount.about.com/fiber-calories- count-ft59391 Hope it helps |

I also buy this bread, and the whole wheat one as well. They are both good and the first ingredient is WHOLE WHEAT FLOUR!! BUT...if you do the math, the calorie content is actually 55 cals per slice. They only count the cals on the net carbs, they don't count the calories for the fiber. But sill 55 calories per slice!!! YUM and it is healthy, low in sugar, high in fiber & protein...Now if they only carried it in Canada...I have to stock up on it when I go to the States & keep it in my freezer....good thing it freezes well! |

Original Post by ladydelish4eva: Hi ladydelish4eva! I am just wondering if you are trying to lose an additional 20 lbs, or if you only want to lose another 4? You sound close to my stats, and 20 MORE lbs would definitely be too much. And if you lost that much weight very fast, that might be the reason for your period to stop, maybe just check in with a doctor, just in case!!

I just thought I would let you all in on this info: Iovate, the manufacturer, is voluntarily recalling a whole bunch of their "Hydroxycut" products because the FDA found evidence of liver related problems in 23 cases, where people used these products. I purchased some Hydroxycut MAX from GNC 2 weeks ago, and now it is being recalled......it is going right back there tomorrow!! |

Calories aren't always counted just for the total nutrition that you need. They provide energy your body needs to function. You NEED that amount at LEAST just for your body to function properly. That means for your brain to function, digestive system to function, breathing and other bodily functions that we actually don't even think about. If you go to this website, it might explain better than I can. |

Original Post by luvtraveling: I read that in Men's Health last month.....my husband gets it and I usually read the articles. But it said that no less than 16 oz and drinking more had no extra benefit when they did the study. I also read in another magazine and on this website that you should eat something within the forst 90 minutes. So as soon as I wake up, I guzzle 16 oz H2O, and then I eat a small snack......a Kashi bar, or a a handfull of Kashi cereal, dry, a half and apple, or a slice of toast....just something to tide me over until I work out, then I have some protein (eggs, protein smoothie or something) after I workout. Hope this helps! |

I always drink mine in the morning after a workout. I buy the egg whites in those cartons (that look like milk cartons), and I buy frozen berries. Then I add in bananas, oranges, strawberries, pineapple, whatever fruit I might have on hand. My ususal is 1/2 cup egg whites, 1/3 cup low cal, fat free yogurt, 1/3 cup skim milk or fruit & veggie juice, 1/2 banana, 3/4 cup fresh or frozen mixed berries, & a half an orange. It is super yummy, has fiber & protein and anti-oxidents...awesome after a workout! |

Have you ever tried any if the Pilates Videos? Mari Windsor has a sculptig video that is for hips, thighs and butt.....it might be worth a try. It uses the same concept that your God Mother is talking about, but uses a resistance band and different movements. My thighs and hips definitely feel the burn after 20 minutes!!! Good Luck!!! |

I have to agree....I am pretty toned, but I still have a few little dimples....but they aren't that visible. There was definite "cellulite" when I was bigger, but now, my body fat % is lower, so it isn't terrible, there is just a dimple or two. But even Tyra Banks had cellullite when she was a Victoria's Secret |

I live in Canada, too. If you have a Safeway nearby....they have Eating Right burgers in their frozen food section. I think there is 8 in a box. They are called Eating Right Extra Lean Steakhouse Beef Burgers. I quite like them. They also make Low Fat Mountain Grain Hamburger Buns or you can get Weight Watchers Hamburger Buns...both are 110 cals. YUM YUM YUM!!!! |

OMG...I think it is amazing. My kids love it, too. I do my workouts usually in the morning, while my kids are at school, and husband is at work. Then after supper, we all go and do Wii Fit for 30 minutes each.....we compete to see who can do better than the other! My twelve year old and my husband are sooo competitive! They say they are going to whip themselves into shape just trying to beat each others score. Today my legs were so sore from the strength training & yoga combinations I could barely walk! LOL |

| Foods | What is the current "recommended" daily water intake? | May 14 2008 19:13 (UTC) |
3 |
I actually was at the Dr.s office last week for my daughter, but I thought I would ask him if I drink too much water. I am 5'2" and I drink between 3-5 litres (100 -170 oz) of water per day. He said that water intoxication isn't a common thing and my body will know when to stop. If I am thirsty, then drink, and if I am working out, i sweat, so i need to replenish. We talked about that lady, Jennifer Strange in Texas, but she drank A LOT of water and held it in. He also said that people on medication for schizophrenia (sp?) can cause them to drink too much water because they don't know when to stop so they can actually die from water intoxication. But normally, people drink when they are thirsty and know when to pee, and they also know when too much is too much! |

| Weight Loss | Do you guys log your "bites" | Apr 30 2008 19:37 (UTC) |
13 |
When I first started counting calories, I would log bites. That way I could estimate how many extra cals I ate just by nibbling. Now I just figure that the bite of my daughters toast and jam or piece of apple she liked to feed me is only minimal in cals so I estimate and keep it in the back of my head as I eat my last calories of the day.......knowing that I have already had 50-75 cals that I didn't log. It works out well for those days that I am under cals. |

| Foods | Starbucks.... | Apr 29 2008 20:21 (UTC) |

I love Strabucks. I have 4 kids and my husband and I usually take an hour or 2 a couple of nights a week and go for a latte. When it is nice we walk, about 40 minutes each way. I get the Venti Skinny Caramel Latte (160 cals) and it is like a mini get away. It really is nice for the two of us to just do that. Sure we could just go for walk, but there is just something about talking over a latte.....besides, it gives me about a cup and a half of my dairy intake, adds protein, and keeps me SANE!!! LOL We also have an espresso machine and I buy the syrups from Starbucks and often make them at home if I need one(cuz a mother of 4 sometimes needs coffee!!) during the day or it is too cold for a walk...it is just a nice treat! |

| Maintaining | BMI 28, but want to maintain. | Apr 28 2008 18:02 (UTC) |

If you workout that hard for an hour, 5 days a week, then you have probably built up your muscle mass, which would make you heavier, but not actually look fatter. Definitely don't go by the BMI charts if you have any sort of muscle. Remember muscle weighs more, so your BMI will be off. And congrats on the weight loss!!!! |

If you look at profile pic, I fluctuate between 109-113 and I am 5'2.5" (I always make sure I add that 1/2 inch, it makes a huge difference when you are short!!LOL) |

| Foods | Someone told me that | Apr 27 2008 04:31 (UTC) |

I was always told that cottage cheese was very good for weight loss. High in protein, low in fat...although it is a bit high in sodium, but the 1% or 2% is lower in cals and you can do so many different things with it. I personally love cottage cheese, and I am sure it is not hindering my weight loss. |

| Weight Loss | help, I don't know what is going on!!! | Apr 26 2008 17:45 (UTC) |

Could it be you need to increase your calories? I noticed that lately I weigh about 4-5 pounds heavier than I did 2 months ago, and then I decided to read some other forums about it, and that is generally the idea that everyone comes up with. I was trying to keep it around 1200-1300, plus some pretty good workouts and running after 4 kids all day. I also increased my workouts, so my body was probably starving! In the past week, I increased my calories to between 1400-1500 and hopefully in the next couple of weeks, I will see a difference.....I hate when I step on the scale and the numbers have gone UP!! |

Have you ever tried the yoplait or the dannon low calorie ones? I think the light & fit tastes pretty good, and not too high in cals....I am in Canada, but when I go to the states, that is the kind I get. |

I used fresh strawberries and blueberries and also a bit of yogurt (I was out of cottage chz) and it was so amazing.....although my kids thought I was nuts, and my husband was gagging...LOL!!!! |

| Foods | Apple Cider Vinegar used to lose weight? | Apr 11 2008 04:52 (UTC) |
1 |
I have heard that the apple cidar vinegar is really good for all kinds of different things....killing toxins and bacteria in the body. My mother-in-law bought this book at an antique store and was reading it to me, but, I have also heard that it can have some terrible effects on your stomach lining and esphogus. I haven't the faintest idea anymore on what is good or bad, but I just figured that vinegar is pretty strong and swallowing the liquid, might burn all the way down!!! Probably beter to take the pills..... who knows??!! |

| Weight Loss | To those having trouble getting in 1200 calories... | Mar 07 2008 00:56 (UTC) |
30 |
| I had that problem at one time, and I couldn't lose weight. My body was in starvation mode. I mean, I wouldn't eat all day long, drink coffee, but no food, and then at supper I would eat a salad and cottage cheese. After I joined calorie count and started tracking my calories, I realized that I wasn't eating enough, so I increased my calories, only to 1100, but that didn't seem to work, either. Once I started reading the forums, I increased to 1200+ and started eating 3 meals per day plus snacking. The more I took in, the more my weight would go down. So now I understand that when i starve myself, I won't lose weight. I am much happier with the weight I am at now, and I eat closer to 1400 for maintaining, sometimes I splurge, so I go lighter the next day, but I make sure to stay over the 1200 mark. It was really hard in the beginning, getting it in my head to eat 1200, but I have been on CC since July and now it is so much easier! | |||
| Health & Support | Hypothyroidism What are the symptoms? | Mar 04 2008 21:48 (UTC) |

| I have hypothyroidism, and samiira is right, it is very serious. I was diagnosed at age 12......a very young age, and it got so bad by the time I was 14, the Dr. thought that I had cancer of the thyroid. Thank goodness they were wrong!! Through all of my pregnancies it jumped all over the place, but for the past 5 years, I have been on the same strength of synthroid that I started on, and I have no more hair falling out, unexplained weight gain and fatigue or mood swings (that aren't associated to my kids and husband that is!! LOL) You definitely need to be checked out by blood work. It is a really simple procedure and the medication is very inexpensive, but totally worth it. I take 1 pill every morning, but it will keep me alive longer than if I left it untreated! | |||

| Thank You. Yes it helped a lot! There is one listed there that is almost identical to the one that I take ( flax, borage & fish olis totalling 1200mg) and it is about 13 cals and 1.2 grams of fat. It doesn't add a lot of fat to my daily intake, but I am sure every little bit of healthy oils helps! Thanks again! | |||

| I am with you on this one, too. When we go on holidays, my family doesn't care what they are eating, calorie wise, so I try to opt for sushi resaurants and buffets. We are going away again in 3 weeks, and I hope someone out there knows something about sushi. It always looks like it would be low fat and cals, but with the rice and condiments they use, you never know. | |||
