| Weight Loss | Advice that REALLY works for those on the 130-110's!!!!! | Jun 25 2009 16:50 (UTC) |

I think a group for this would be great! I too am in the same boat haha. I am 5'5"ish and right now I weigh 133 (haven't weighed in a while though because I am scared I have gained!) but short term I would like to get to 128 and long term I would like to be at 118-120. I have never been able to follow through with a weight loss plan but have been trying to for like 2 years! I just started my new diet and exercise 3 weeks ago and have seen minimal resluts, some tips and success stories would really help! Right now I eat between 1200-1400 cals a day and try and get to the gym every week day to run 1 mile and then walk up hill for 30 mins. On the weekends I try and run outside but have only done it once! |

I have a bunch of size 27 jeans that are suuuper cute but are way too tight on me! I mean major muffin top tight! By the end of the summer (and not a moment sooner) I am going to try them on and hopefully have them fit and by fit I mean be comfortable and loose not just a little less tight. BUUUT my bigger goal is for them to be too big and then I will sell them to a consignment store abnd buy some new ones...but keep one for my fatter days :) |

I read in the Skinny Bitch book that eating right when you wake up can be harmful. Your body clenses while you sleep and eating as soon as you wake up can disrupt the process. The food that you do eat gets pushed to the side and doesn't process as well. According to the book you should drink a big glass of water in the morning and once you are hungry (or after like 2 hours) eat fruit as it can aid in the clensing process. Not sure how accurate that is though. |

| Fitness | Ran 4 miles outside but can barely run 3 on the treadmill!! | Jun 17 2009 19:54 (UTC) |

I am the same way. I think that the constant time and distance monitoring annoys me with nothing to look at. When I run outside I can see the finish line and try and get there as fast as possible. I try and get the tredmill at the gym that faces a window, listen to my iPod and hope for the best. For the winter months, if you have a tred mill at home put it by your TV and get on it during your fav shows, the gym I used to go to had what they called a "Cardio Theater" it was this huge room with a big movie screen and cardio machines, I could run for hours in that thing! |

| Fitness | Want to start jogging, and have a few questions. | Jun 16 2009 16:48 (UTC) |

I hated running what I was younger! When I decided I wanted to get into shape and lose a few pounds I had always been told that running is one of the best things you can do. So here are some ways I become to looove it: I would definately find a running plan, the Couch to 5k is great, but there are others! Watch your heart rate monitor, my dad was a big runner, still holds records in his college track team but has recently discovered that because he pushed himself too hard for so long he has damaged his heart so definatey be careful. The next step would be to go to a running store and get your stride analyzed by a sales person, they will help you make sure you have the right shoes and give you tips to run better. Having bad shoes can be a big problem, trust me I know! And like everyone else has said don't worry about the time right now :) |

Eat as balanced as possible. I try and revolve my meals around the food groups like breakfast: grains and dairy, lunch: fruit and veggies, dinner: protein and veggies. The I try and incorporate healthy snacks in between like fat and dairy (cheese) etc... Sometimes during certains times of the month I get super hungry at odd times and use some tricks to control my hunger. When I am feeling a snack attack come on I 1. drink a full glass of water and try and do something like clean (but not in the kitchen haha), if that doesn't work I try a small snack of something that helps like 10 almonds, a spoonful of peanut butter, a glass of skim milk, then resume my activity. If that still doesn't work then I will usually just eat an early dinner. I find that my weight gain came from snacking. I try and schedule out my days so I have little time of sitting on the couch eating chips or if I am relaxing I make sure I I have already eaten a meal before doing nothing...hope this helps! |

| Fitness | Best workout for abs and thighs? | Jun 15 2009 14:40 (UTC) |

Cardio is the best way to define abs. While doing your cardio, keep your posture up and hold your abs in, when your done you should feel it! Also try a pilates class! As everyone else has said you can't spot train but when I wanted to slim my legs down I walk at a fairly fast speed on a treadmill on an incline for about 30 minutes. This way you are toning your leg muscles while doing cardio so when the fat does come off from your deficit you should have some nicely tones legs in there :) |

If you have hit your goal but still see some soft areas maybe start some sort of maintainence plan. My little brother was about your age when he lost all of his weight and he just keep eating healthy, exercising and staying active, remember its a lifestyle change. I don't think you need to lose anymore weight, maybe try some more strength training to get that six pack! Your body is going to change a lot within the next few years so it would probably be best to eat more good foods than continue to eat a deficit. |

| Foods | how often do your grocery shop?? and when? | Jun 10 2009 21:23 (UTC) |

I think it depends on your lifestyle. I am single and live by myself and I am trying to adapt to a healthy lifestyle. I try and plan my meals in advance each week and go the grocery store once a week to get what I need. |

| Fitness | Spinning???? | Jun 10 2009 19:19 (UTC) |

Spinning is great if you want a high intensity cardio workout and if you are the type of person that enjoys classes because an instructor tells you what to do. I started going a couple months ago and went like 3 days a week and I loved it, but it got kind of boring after a while. Plus I like to do my own workouts at my own time. I still try and go to a spin class at least once a week to mix things up though! A few tips: If it is your first class, don't be afraid to crank up the resistance, you will feel really tired at first and wonder how your going to make it through the class but if you keep with it you will adjust. Buy a seat cushion thats fits over a bike seat, trust me, you will be sooo happy and they are only like $15. between sets try not to let yourself totally slow down, if you do your are going to cut out a lot of the toning to your legs. |

| Weight Loss | Has running helped you lose weight? I need to hear from you!! :) | Jun 10 2009 15:04 (UTC) |

Your heart rate being in the 190s is too high and over time can cause serious heart problems. You should probably try and stay in the 170s max. I had this problem too when I first started running. Because your body is not used to running, your leg muscles and other muscles used to run are not developed enough to handle the run. Try adding some weight lifting, particularly in your leg and core regions to support you. Workouts work differently for everyone. My mom lost a ridiculous amount of weight by doing yoga and playing golf once a week. My dad on the other hand can run and the pounds just melt off. If you are seeing results from running keep it up! If you aren't try a different type of cardio. But most importantly, if you are trying to loose weight make sure you vary your workouts. Your body can become used to one workout and you can plateau...especially with running. Personally I run a quick mile a day then walk on an incline for 30 minutes and vary different weight lifting zones. To mix up your run try running new paths that incorporate different terrains or mixing up different running intervals. |

| Weight Loss | how long after you awake is breakfast no longer considered breakfast? | Feb 02 2009 15:05 (UTC) |
2 |
Even though you are technically "fasting" when you are sleeping, your body is ridding itself of toxins. When you wake up your body converts from self cleaner to operator so eating right when you wake up can slow that process down and interrupt the clensing. A good rule of thumb is to eat when you are hungry. When you wake up, have a class of water to kick start yourself and then eat when you feel hungry.
