| ilisa you're so funny, you try so hard to tell people NOT to do something and well, either people are that stupid or they just haven't been disciplined enough as a child to listen to anyone!!! HA!!! Just 2 days ago you had to post once again the "rules" of this thread and look what happened still!!! okay, I'm done laughing about it, here's what I ate!!
fiber one cereal, kashi go lean cereal, vanilla soy milk, banana, egg whites, strawberry jam, oatmeal, whey protein, flaxseed, yogurt, turkey, cheese, tomato soup, popcorn, cottage cheese, mixed vegetables, baked sweet potato, teriyaki salmon....... And guess what folks~you can eat this much food and still lose FAT! God, I love it. |

| Well, I hate to be the one that bursts anyone's bubble, but the ingredients in these bars is horrible. Not only is there high fructose corn syrup, high maltose corn syrup, dextrose (another simple sugar), and regular sugar, there's also hydrogenated oils!!! So basically these bars are NOT "good for your body" BUT, if you're not worried about that kind of stuff, than more power to ya!
Everyone is different, but I find that eating more natural, organic, whole foods, your body responds way better to losing FAT. But that's me, I'm looking more for all-around good health and nutrition, so I wouldn't touch these things with a 10-foot pole. Okay, I better stop hurting anyone's feelings. Hope you all have a great weekend!!! |

| Aww man, that is not what i wanted to hear. =( I use the tools on this site as to what my allowance is and I put in Sedentary activity level because then I can just log my exercise and see what I'm burning in a day. Well, on "unactive" days (days when I don't exercise-mainly weekends) it says I burn 1800cal. So I just try to eat 1500cal those days. Well, for example today, I burned 680cal exercising making my daily burn like 2,350 or something, so I think to myself, does that mean I eat more today??? or stick to 1500??? So confusing... | |||

| Did anyone see Power of 10 last night with Whaaamber and Danielle?? OMG, Amber made a total ass of herself! It was so funny! Drew Carey asked her how it felt to be scrutinized due to being on the show, and Amber was like, "Honestly, I don't know what scrutinize means?" OMG, I can't believe she said that on national television! What a dork. I sure hope she's voted off tomorrow, I'm so sick of her. | |||

| Just as katethegreat said, I too am no expert, but from my research, that layer of fat you speak of is only going to be rid of with a necessary DIET (i know the dreaded "d" word, but what i mean is where your calories are coming from protein/carbs/fat) and making sure you are not overtraining. An article, in fact, this whole website I found to be very helpful:
http://www.intense-workout.com/overtraining.h tml In my opinion, 1300 calories is nowhere near enough for the amount of activity you are doing in your exercise!!! I'm thinking your body is holding onto that fat on purpose because it thinks it's starving...but that's just my opinion. I would even recommend talking to a nutritionist or a professional trainer if one is available to you..... I hope this helps! Good Luck!! (I am also in the same boat as you, I'm trying to "alter" my diet/exercise plan so that I can start seeing results!) |

| Foods | Why does PB2 get a "D?" | Aug 23 2007 02:05 (UTC) |

| Yeah, muttlover, you're right, who cares what CC grades it as, as long as I am under my daily calorie allowance, I'm happy.
P.S. It has 94mg of sodium per serving (2Tbsp) so who knows, that may have something to do with it. And, it comes in a small peanut butter jar full of powder and you just use a Tbsp measuring spoon to measure out 2Tbsp into a bowl and add 1Tbsp of water and just stir it until creamy. The consistency, I think, is pretty comparable to if you were eating crushed up peanuts! Sorry that sounded kind of dumb, but I can't compare to regular pb cuz it's not as smooth feeling, it's creamy, but yet you can feel the powdered peanuts, er, I hope this doesn't confuse you! All in all, for only 54cal per serving, I'm happy. I actually prefer the taste of Better'n Peanut Butter, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT STUFF! But, if I can have more of the PB2 for less calories, well then so be it. =) |

| Foods | Why does PB2 get a "D?" | Aug 22 2007 17:13 (UTC) |

| Yes, I entered all the information I could about it. The good points that were listed was: No Cholesterol and there was nothing listed for Bad Points?!?!? That was the most confusing, you would think that if a food is given a "D" that they would at least list one bad point about it?!?!? | |||
| Fitness | exercises to strengthen back? | Aug 21 2007 18:51 (UTC) |
10 |
| Well, I'm not sure if you are looking for exercises that don't require any equipment, but if you have a gym membership where there's nautilus machines, they usually label the machines as to what muscle group it works on...not to sound condescending, but I'm just saying, I too wanted to know what I could do to strengthen/tone my back and that's what I had to do to find out...but I know of one really good one that works a lot of back muscles is just your standard pull-up/chin-up. Using a bar to pull yourself up-there's a piece of equipment at the gym I go to that is called assisted pull-up and it's awesome.
Even using dumbbells can strengthen your back, one that comes to mind is the bent-over row where you kneel over the side of a bench and lift/pull the dumbbell up to your side....or you could lie on your chest at the end of a bench and have dumbbells in both hands and pull them up to your sides (I think that one is called dumbbell lying row) I hope I provided you with some helpful info!!!! sorry if I didn't! (:^/ |

| I heard that on last night's after dark Jen and Dick really got into it, something about Dick blowing smoke in Jen's face and then their confrontation almost got physical! I guess the cameras had to cut out it got so bad and it said, "stay tuned" I heard Jen was a little rebel and ate a turkey burger and some other real food, even though she is supposed to be on slop! Then I heard that after she found out what the penalty was if she was caught, she had another turkey burger!!! Ha, she's funny, I hope she doesn't go home this week, cuz I really think she can go pretty far in this game. | |||
| Health & Support | I am a binge eater ... help | Aug 09 2007 21:00 (UTC) |
|
| Well, all I can say is that you've come to the right place. There are a lot of supportive people on this site with a lot of helpful information. You've taken the first step to admitting you have a problem and want help. That's awesome! Way to go.
As far as advice, all I can give is what I've personally experienced. Everyone is different and deals with things differently, so you need to find what works for you. The first thing I will say is that 3 meals a day just doesn't cut it for me. I have to eat literally every 2 hours to stay satisfied which sometimes equals eating 5 or 6 times in a day. I start at 8:00 and then eat at 10, 12, 2, 4, and dinner around 6. If I have a craving or stay up late, I may even have another snack, but try to choose something light like fruit, popcorn, or yogurt. As far as where you should begin, I think talking to your doctor is an option if you can't do it on your own, or don't think you can. But if you feel you can battle this what I actually call a disease, then trying different approaches until you find something that works is what you have to do. You know you can't live like this and you clearly don't want to. If you want, you can send me a private message and I can go into more detail with you what my daily eating habits have come to be and how I overcame my binges. Good luck, and God bless. |

| My snacks throughout the day consist of:
Morning: either oatmeal (150cal) or I really like the Atkin's Advantage Caramel~Double Chocolate Crunch bars (150cal) sometimes I crave popcorn and I only eat SmartPop Kettle Korn~sweet n salty! 120cal for an entire full bag! yum Afternoon: I like baby carrots dipped in peanut butter (i know, sounds weird and gross but it's very similar to celery and pb-and i actually use peanut butter that is only 100cal per 2Tbsp!! so with the 14 baby carrots the snack equals 140cal) Sunsweet Dark Chocolate Covered Plums are a nice treat too (120cal/serving) Also I always have an apple cut up in some yogurt (156cal) Hope this helps! |

| I am 5'8" and my long-term goal is to be 140lbs, but for now I'm focusing on getting into the darn 150's!!! Man, I've been stuck in the 160's for the past 10 months and I hate it. Last year around May, I was down to 143lbs and was just exstatic! At the end of August, something drastic happened to me that caused severe depression which in turn packed on 25lbs! UGH! I am now mentally healthy and strong and so want to lose this weight that I absolutely hate! (I'm really not trying to rhyme-it's just kind of working out that way! Ha!)
So, my current weight is 164lbs and my short-term goal for now is to be 159lbs by Aug 20! Can anyone tell me that this is possible? |

| Foods | Watermelon | Jul 30 2007 19:17 (UTC) |

| When I try to look up how big a wedge is, all I can come up with is that it is 1/16 of an entire watermelon that measures 15" long and 7 1/2" in diameter which I think is your average size watermelon. I'm sure that if it was less than an inch thick, it's safe to say 86 cal, maybe even a little less. Did you get to see the watermelon as a whole? | |||

| Foods | Ever popular "Cereal Debate"... | Jul 30 2007 18:42 (UTC) |
13 |
| I agree with dm84, most "kids cereal" is full of crap. I personally like Kashi Go Lean. It is high in fiber and protein and only 140cal per one cup. I feel I'm at least getting something out of it. Sometimes I'll even split cereals and use 1/2 cup of Go Lean and 1/2 cup Fiber One which is loaded with fiber and no sugar.
Picking from your choices of Lucky Charms, Special K, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, or Cheerios, I would definitely say that Cheerios is the way to go. Compared to Special K, let's say, Cheerios is a little less calories, less sodium, more fiber, and less sugar...so yeah, there ya go! |

| Well, txjocelynx87, that makes two of us!!! (See my post from this morning, titled "How to Overcome a Binge?") Together we can pick ourselves up off the floor, stand tall, chin up, and say, hey we are human, it's now time to hop back on the wagon and accept our mistakes.....We need to realize that there are going to be bumps in the road that we just will choose to go over and fail instead of going around them and avoid failure....oh well-- poop happens! | |||

"if you're trying to lose weight you're probably eating too many calories (especially the 1700 on the weekends), i would think with your exercise routine and your eating habits now that you're probably just maintaining your weight. I lost my final 15 lbs by cutting down to about 1200-1400 every DAY" I DO NOT AGREE WITH THIS! My solution to you, amylsmith, is to eat more!!! Your body right now is in or is going in starvation mode and your metabolism is slowing down. This is dangerous, not only healthwise, but for those trying to lose weight. If you are working out 5 days a week for 90 minutes you are at least burning 300-500 calories in just exercise, not to mention the average of 1500-2000 calories burned just from normal body function (depends on gender, height, weight, etc.) Your body is lacking the calories it needs for this type of lifestyle. It is better to have a deficit of 500 cal/day so if you figure out what your body burns in a day, then take into account your exercise, then you should have an idea of how many calories you should be eating. I'll bet you are eating at least 500 calories LESS than what you're supposed to! For example: I burn 1800cal/day doing absolutely nothing because of my height, weight, daily activity, etc. I also exercise Mon-Fri for about an hour (cardio and weights) and usually burn around 400-500 calories which then equals 2200-2400 of burned calories/day. So, I take 2400 calories minus 500 and I get 1900 calories. This is how many calories I should be eating each day that I exercise. Now, for the days I don't exercise, I should eat a little less, like maybe 1500 calories. Woman should generally never go lower than 1200 calories. I HOPE THIS HELPS!!! GOOD LUCK, AND GET EATING!!! |
