Weight Loss Motivation buddy needed Jul 25 2007

Hi there -

I'm 20 also and I HATE running, ha.  I too have gained an unsightly amount of weight (damn you college/office job) since entering college and am looking to get it OFF my body.  I'm ultimately interested in losing more than 15 pounds, but as a short term goal 15 doesn't sound bad at all :)  I've never been thin, don't know your stats but I'm 5'5 and 148 looking to return to 135 or under.  I'm not motivated and I need someone to yell at me.  Let me know if you're interested.
Weight Loss 30 pounds to lose club Jul 25 2007

Height: 5'5

Current (start) weight: 148

Lowest (historically): 128

Goal: 120

Underweight Goal: 99

I'm going to try and cut bread and cheese (my vices) out of my diet and go for long walks.  I don't really consume liquid calories much, just tea tea tea all day long.  Hope you're all doing well - it sounds like much progress is being made!  :)
Weight Loss How many lbs is a size 14/13? Jul 25 2007

I'm almost 5'5 and not muscular - my body type is slightly pear with a belly.  I found that 13s fit like 12s - I probably wore a size 14 around my highest weight of 165 lb.  Now I'm 148 (yeesh) and wear an 8-10.  Then again, my mother is 5'6 and 140, and she wears a 12-14.  Shape is everything.
Weight Loss Curvey women or stick thin women? Jul 17 2007

In many Western and East Asian societies, women like the waif look.  In the West, women who can't achieve this look bitch about the ones who are successful, and in the East they take diet pills and mourn the loss of their girlish stick figures.

Men don't usually want their women to be waifs, but they like thin women because they appear to take care of their bodies, and caring about what you look like is important.  I find that most guys dig hourglass figures, many like short women, and a rare few prefer BBWs with lots of curves.
Weight Loss anyone with pretty fit or skinny boyfriends? Jul 11 2007

Always, because I project my own fear of fat onto men and will only go for super slim/trim ones.  Currently my boyfriend is 6'1 and 160 or so and I'm 5'4 and 145ish.  Neither of us are remotely close to jacked but my legs and arms are much plumper than his.  He just spent a semestre in China and I don't even know how he can look at me after being hit on relentlessly by 90-pound waifs for three months.

Does anyone ever worry that their man has a fat fetish?
Weight Loss The "myth" that Asian girls are naturally slim Jul 11 2007

It's true, small frames are more common among Asian women than Western women, and I'd say a good percentage of my fellow yellow is 5'3 or shorter.

As for societal pressure to be skinny, I would love to do a study on the effects of Asian living on Westernized Asian females' self-esteem.  I'm fairly sure that if I'm accepted to JET and live in Japan next year, I will develop an eating disorder or the next best thing to it due to feeling ashamed of my large(r) size.  I'm not a beast or anything but I'm not even thin by American standards...

I feel deep shame being around Asian girls.  I'm adopted from Korea, 5'5 and 145 pounds - I'm far from plus size by US standards but being 30 pounds heavier than your peers is not fun.  Some days I'm too embarrassed to wear anything but baggy dresses with boots.

I think this sort of thing happens to anyone who's not 100% satisfied with how she looks, and it's important to recognize that others suffer from it too.  You're sooo not alone.  And by the by, if I'm not mistaken, is your username a Tiger Army reference?  :)
Weight Loss Any ladies about 5'4"-- Goal Weights please?? Jul 10 2007

I'm almost 5'5, unathletic at an unimpressive 145-150 lbs.  I've never been an athlete but I'd like to change that soon.  I have unrealistic goals - ideally I would weigh 99-105 (so as to not be called fat in Asia).  My lowest weight was 128 for this height, and I'm satisfied with my appearance anywhere from 128-135.  125 would be great, 115 better, etc.
