Since we are griping about body type, I'll add my latest quandry:

I have lost three pounds this month, I maintained over Christmas, but somehow the clothes I bought just before Christmas are not fitting that well, especially in the buns and thighs area.  This really makes me mad.

Mad enough to finally start exercising, which I put off b/c off a long list of excuses having to do with why my life is not my own.   All excuses, though, that is the bottom line.  And my bottom line is getting wider despite the drop on the scale and the lower calories eaten.

It's frustrating being shaped like a pear.  I am sick of this, I am going to totally kick my butt into shape.

My mom used those tapes and she was really happy with them.  I'd like to report she is thin now, but she never stick with anything.  She likes to eat and watch tv too much.  She did lose weight while using the tapes though and she is obese with some problem in one of her legs (from taking statin drugs for cholesterol).

I thought I would ask here again, since we are all close in age.  Is anyone else having Periomenopause?  That's like the early part of menopause (periods still coming, but hormones are different, low progesterone).  How do you deal with it and has it effected your weight loss?  I had a huge gain last year starting about the time I noticed the symptoms.  I never gained like that before and never in the middle.  I know I didn't eat right and was a lump on the couch for a few months, but I gained 30 lbs in 3 months and I thought that was rather remarkable more than 2 lbs a week!

I saw the OB (sorta, only her assistant was available) and she wasn't a lot of help.  I cannot remember now if there was blood work, but she gave me birth control.  I just didn't keep up with the pill b/c it has risks and b/c the perscription was for only three months, so I just didn't feel like dealing with it anymore.  I used to get it for a year.  I don't know if it was b/c I am older have certain risks (having had cancer before) or if it is b/c she is just assistant and can only write three months worth.  Regardless, I do not want to try pill after pill to straighten out my hormones.

Natural rememdies I would be open too.  I wonder what kind of doctor I could see, the OB office was not much help.  When I tell them I have really bad PMS they act like I need a shrink.  It bugs me b/c my whole family is dealing with my mood swings.  I don't sleep well and that is a major part of it, I think.

Let me know what you think.

Do any of you other 30-somethings have periomenopause and if so how are you dealing with it?

I feel like I could be bipolar but I think it is all due to HORMONES from hell.

How is it affecting your weight loss?  daily life?

I just have more and more days of wanting to sit and do nothing.  I have to do something about this.

I have to lose 20 lbs at least.  30 would be better.  I haven't been eating just perfectly the past two days and I feel really bummed that I did that to myself.

I am dealing with an issue of being or feeling competitive with someone I hate.  It almost makes me feel like giving up when I hear she has joined a gym and going to weight watchers and taking pills.

I have to get that off my mind, I am doing this for me.  I cannot worry about if someone I hate is doing a good or bad job at getting thin.  I was quite enjoying her being fat though. Oh well, I am going to work hard and without pills and with a new lifestyle I will stay thin.  I know I can get down there to 130 b/c I have done it since babies and I will do it again and stay that way.

Ugh! I'm not doing the exercise yet either.  I have been a little in the dumps.  I keep thinking the next day will be better.  Maybe I will start with exercise tomorrow morning, then I will have done that and maybe it will help my mood.

I'm doing good on the calories and eating so far.  I think I can at least do that for now.  I do feel a little better since starting to eat right.

The Lounge Politics - do you vote the same way as your parents? Jan 10 2008

Heck NO!!  My dad sometimes votes, you can count on him to vote republican.  My mom never votes, she thinks if you vote you get called for jury duty and she does't want to do her duty.  If she voted it'd be democratic for sure.

Do I vote like them? I vote so that's the main difference.  They don't really believe any politicians and they think everyone is out for special interests, so even my dad won't vote all the time.  He figures the checks and balances don't work like they used to b/c of the special interests, etc.  I think he is right, but I still vote.

When I was in college being "educated" I was democratic, then when I really got educated (first job, married, kids, etc.) I turned republican.  My mom hates high taxes, but she is more likely to vote democratic b/c for some reason she thinks they will do something to ease her finances some way.   She also goes for the guy or girl who the media seems to like, she's not a real thinker on politics, so maybe it is a good thing she doesn't vote.

from a 36 B to a 38 D?  What pill is that?  I need it.  Just kidding, they'd just fall to the floor anyway.

I think your hormones may be off!  I'd see the doctor first.  If it is anything like my doctor visit last year (depending on your age) they won't be able to do a lot for you.  I was offered a different pill.  I think it helped a bit, but I didn't continue to take it.  At my age it is not a real good thing and I have taken it for years before now.  I prefer not to have a blood clot and other increased risks.

Look up periomenopause on the net.  I think there are some natural remedies for hormonal imbalance, but get to the doctor and have yourself checked out to rule out any other stuff first.

Have you looked up your symptoms online?

Clothes fitting on your body is nice.  Looking good in everything you try on is good.   I don't want to look sick with bones sticking out everywhere and I'd like muscles to be somewhat noticeable.

I feel pretty fat and frumpy at current size (10-12).  I feel pretty hot at a 6 though.  I think I am okay at a 4 too.  Any smaller than that and my face looks too drawn in.

There was sun here in NW Ohio for about ten minutes today.  I homeschool my kids.  I stopped them and told them to hurry outside before the sun went away.

I hate the gray season (which is winter and part of Spring at least).

It's a total bummer when it's just freezing.  Today and yesterday it was unusually warm (50's and even a high of 60 today).  That beats last week when it stayed in the 20s for days.

It would just be nice to be able to enjoy the outdoors more.  My hubby is in TX where it is 80 today.  I am so jealous about that.  He went for a walk today.  I was about to go for a walk here when it looked like a thunderstorm rolling in.  It was just really windy, but it missed us.

Now I understand why there are so many tanning salons up here in Ohio.  I am originally from TX and I've never seen so many tanning salons as here.

I think those guys are pretty weird.  I don't know why they want to be near a hernia (sp?) lifting weights.   I don't care if they grunt loud, that's what ipod is for to tune it all out.  Some guys are pretty loud though.  Sounds like a bad bathroom problem to me.

What would people think of a lady making those strange noises in the gym;-)

I don't think you gain weight on 1000 cal diet.  If you do it has to do with you starving yourself and throwing off your metabolism.

There are better ways to lose weight.  You can wake up your metabolism by eating better foods for you and that includes a variety of foods. Fruits and veggies, especially.

Healthy eating and exercise is the way to go.  How much did the calculator thing on here say you burn in calories on an average day?  I think a general rule is to eat no more than 1,000 calories less than you expend in calories a day (for weight loss).  You don't want to be in starvation mode. That leads to gaining when you go back to eating healthy or off of very restrictive diet. What you are doing right now you will see a gain as you come off of it, but you will feel better and can enjoy other foods.

Take control by learning the right foods to eat and how to get the ultimate fitness for your body.  Starved bodies aren't sexy, and eventually they are dead bodies.

You don't want an ED if you don't have it already.  It is not sexy to have that and no guy and none of your friends are going to want any part of that mess.  Trust me, I was like that when I was younger for ten years.  Barfing grosses people out when they find out and taking laxatives is not convenient and gross.

I had ulcers in my esophagus so bad from ED that I could not swallow my own saliva and had to walk around  my college campus with a rag to sop up my drool.  Gross!  Don't go down that road.

You probably are attractive already, doing extreme unhealthy things will make you unattractive.

Eewwww! I really don't want to have poop stains on my clothes.  Gross!  The gross things we are ready to endure to avoid a little exercise and eating healthy.  That's gross enough when I find it in my kids' underwear, I can't imagine adult underwear.  Isn't it ironic that so many people would do something so unattractive in order to be attractive?  Who would have ever thought we'd see the day when people would risk a poopy leak in their pants in order to slim down?  Sad.

Instead of pooping your pants try eating more for breakfast and medium lunch, small (200 calories) dinners with 150 calorie snacks during the day to achieve your calories.

Exercise! Drink water and eat foods that are "fat burners" also called "high response, low cost" in some books.  Some healthy foods are better than others at helping you burn fat, boost metabolism and slim down.  Look it up and then create a meal plan including these foods.  Research also shows that women who eat red berries lose more weight.  Eat watermelon too, it helps, as well as asparagus, oranges (vitamin c has a role in how our body handles fat).  So, you can eat healthy and get some results but if you eat just the right things you can really make your body work for you.  Also, exercise!

Why leak, spray or whatever poo poo in your pants when you could avoid that completely and lose weight?

If my hubby got on Alli, I'd so make him wash his own undies.

I was tempted by it at first.  The commercials make me think it is the answer to all my problems, but the real problem is that I have to change my life to eat healthy, eat less and move more.

Besides, I got the idea that Alli would loosen my bowels.  That doesn't sound fun and I am too busy for that.  Loose bowels means more gas, something I don't need any help with (just ask my poor kids, they thought there was a machine gun going off last night).  Tee  hee!

Oh Darnit!!! I spray that stuff all the time.  I had a good day of eating, but I did spray pam on the cookie sheet that I layed my fish on to cook it.  It said lightly oil the pan, so I thought a spray of pam would do it.

I didn't use Pam for years.  I used a hand compressor to spray a light mist of olive oil.  It is lighter spray b/c it is under pressure it seems to be a finer mist than I get with spraying Pam.

I may have to go back to the old way.  My husband is the one who started getting PAM again and he is thinner than me and so I believed him that he knew what he was talking about when he said it was okay.

Darnit!!!  If that fish had 250 calories more then I am over my daily amount and I am still hungry as it is.  I will be going to bed hungry tonight:-(

My son got some chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream and I am thinking about having some, it tastes a lot better than PAM.

Yes, I'd have it!  Could I do more to help others, I could do that too.  I put myself last long enough.  I am planning the following procedures in the next two years.

Lasik, Vaneers, boob lift and implants, nose job, Polaris (for lines and wrinkles).  My friend had cheek implants and a something done on her chin with her nose job. I will be looking at the effect on the whole face when I get the nose job.

If necessary after I get to goal weight I will have the following: tummy tuck, lower body lift, and lipo under the chin or whatever will make sure the extra neck skin is gone. I also want the extra skin from between my legs which is stretch marked and all wrinkled and drawn in to have something done to it.

I'll never have to worry about getting fat again after all that either because my husband will be chasing me too much.  Tee hee!

Since Christianity is a choice (that's pretty much the basis of it) I don't think there is need to be so afraid of, offended by, and keep yourself away from it completely.

You cannot force anyone to Christianity because it is a choice.  You either believe it or you don't and you live by the word or you do not.

Some people can be very intrusive, Christian or not and about anything (politics, lifestyles, you name it) not just religion.  When people are passionate about things they want to share them with others because they want you to have what they have.  It's no different than me telling my friends that I found CC and they should find it too.  They may think they are happy being fat or they may wish I would just shut up about CC already.

It is not against the law nor should it be to bring up a topic in a public place at work or wherever.

It is too bad you are so easily offended, or maybe you are just having a bad day.

I think we should outlaw people being offended, it'd be a lot better than outlawing free speech.

The woman tried to save your soul and you get offended by that.  Just tell yourself she means well.  I doubt you have this inconvenience on a daily basis.  I never, ever run into people in public who are sharing the good new of Jesus Christ.

The bottom line is Christianity is a choice you make for yourself.   The practice of Christianity does involve sharing the news.  The Bible does instruct on how to share the news and I don't know if following someone around the grocery store is constructive.  But, I guess she is old and we let old folks get away with being overbearing at times, they've earned it.

One day you're sure to be a grouchy old fart and you are going to be getting on someone's nerves and some young person is going to start an entire thread about how annoying you are because you can't stop talking about whatever (your bathroom habits, your pacemaker, your five minute farts or whatever insignificant thing there is in your life).

I think you are just annoyed about Christianity because you watch too much news and Lord knows the Media tries to turn everyone into Christian haters.  They've all but equated us to the throat cutters.  They act like because a Christian would be in the White House the whole planet would be converted against their will to Christianity, this just proves their ignorance, it's a choice.

I have really rough feet too.  I just filed mine in the tub the other night.  I put Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Creme on my feet and then use the Satin Hands stuff on my feet as well. Then file away.  I think sopping wet feet that are getting pruney are the best to file.

I put the emollient cream on there and leave it there with my socks on during the day.  I cannot sleep with socks on and I cannot sleep with rough hard feet either with bits of skin poking and grabbing the flannel sheets.  Yuck.  I didn't have this problem when I was living in the south.

Drinking more water I think helps and wearing shoes and socks in the house (I have tennis shoes I keep clean for this purpose).  My feet were looking worse than ever the other night.  They need some attention again today.  I slipped my socks on over them so I can deal with those things later.

I've used Kerasol, but this stuff makes me want to wash my feet (it works though).  I've  used sloughing cremes and I am not convinced they are that good, but I will continue to use them.  If anything it keeps me working on my feet for a while.

Your EX probably just worries b/c he sees his girl growing up and it is scary to him.  Don't blame the ex, he has a limited control of his daughter and he naturally wants to protect  her.

Perhaps you and your ex can talk to her about her personal safety, a cell phone and set up some self-defense course for her.  I prefer martial arts as a total package because my son's instructors's wife is so confident that nobody is going to get her and if they do he is not going anywhere too fast.

In martial arts you get frequent practice in disarming an opponent and how to handle a dangerous situation.

If you or  your ex are worriers, I'd recommend martial arts.  It's a good way to build confidence and will give a girl her age something to do and work on rather than focus on boys and things that may not be best for her at this age.

Yes, let her walk to her friend's house.  She needs to feel confident in her world.

If you are a real worrier then get her one of those cell phones where she can call just you or 911. Teach her how to respond in an event of an attack.

I walked and ran all over my neighborhood.  A man tried to get me in his van once.  I was a runner and my mom had taught me to not trust anybody stopping for directions, etc.  He didn't ask for directions.  He was like "hey get in here". He started to get out of the van.  I ran the opposite direction and off of the road into the grass across a ditch and kept going toward home.  I made it there, locked the door and called the police.  This time my parents were home.  My dad went looking for the guy and the police did not find him.  It was scary, but I didn't stop running.  I just kept a plan in my mind as I ran.  For example, I noticed who was home and who was not as I ran that way I could get help without running all the way home.  The time the man tried to grab me I was about 1/4 mile from my house.

I no longer ran where there were no houses, prior to that it was a frequent practice of mine. I like woods, open spaces, but decided any predator could notice I did that daily and I'd have no place for help.  I did find that there were some friends who could run with me.  Then for running in open places or woods, I'd ask a friend or do it with the a running group. At least that way we all know who is where.

When I got to college I didn't walk alone at night because I knew this could make me look like an easy victim to someone who was not good. There was a free service on campus and members of the corps would come walk you back to your dorm from the library or wherever so you wouldn't be walking in the dark alone.  It is best to take precautions and not be a victim. But you should be able to move about your neighborhood and not feel a prisoner.

Would you walk that same stretch yourself?  If so, then I think a 16 y/o girl should be able to do it.  You cannot always guarantee her safety, but you can give her best odds of surviving an attack by teaching her what to do.

Now would be a good time for her to take some martial arts or at least a self-defense class before she goes off on her own and is frequently alone.

There are things she can put on her key chain for protection.  She may not be allowed to have those at school or at an airport though.  I keep a key between two fingers and in my fist when I walk in parking lots.

I have a big wrench in my car that I can use to strike a fatal blow should I need to.

There are weirdos out there.  Your girls should be able to walk down the street.  Most likely nothing will happen.  The news scares us.  If something happens it isn't because you let her go someplace.  She is a young woman, she needs to spread her wings a little bit as long as she is trustworthy.

good luck.

I don't know why people are afraid of them.  I haven't been that afraid when I had an experience.

I am afraid of encountering one alone.  It has happened, but I am still fearful of being alone with one.  I guess in my mind it is better to be with someone else when this phenomenom occurs. Makes no sense.  So far I wasn't really scared by any of the things that have happened when it happened.  The noises bother me, keep me awake and I am afraid when I open my eyes I'll see it staring at me.  I guess once that happens it would be over but it would be hard to sleep again.  So, at night it is better for me if my hubby is there or if I ignore the noises.  Once the lights are off I rarely ever open my eyes again.  I tell my kids to do the same.  Even if the armoire makes a lot of noise I just lay there. The only thing that makes me pop up is if the doorknob jiggles and that is usually one of my kids.  At times it is not a kid.  I keep the door locked and I put a door stop on my side of it, so it cannot just fly open b/c that would frighten me and make it hard to sleep.

I think maybe I am afraid of something that may be evil.  I do not know if these are evil or not, rather not find out.  Tee hee!

I have made it clear to whatever makes the noises in my house that they will be removed into the light or extingquished (in the event it is just rats or something) if the noises persist.  A few weeks back the noises were really bad.  It isn't as bad now, last night there was a few time the doorknob was messed with and the armoire made noises too.  It's irritating.  I am almost out of this house.  It's on the market.  I think there is something that follows us.  I'm going to do some things to get rid of it, but I want to make sure I do not have to stay here after the rituals.  If it doesn't work I have heard they get really testy.

Toledo, OH here!

I'm originally from TX, so the cold weather gets me kind of bummed.  I feel so trapped. I want to go outdoors to do things, but it is just too cold.  I don't know how people aren't just really fat in the north.

I'll be running up and down my basement stairs this winter.  I got some cords and weights and balance and medicine balls.

I want to go to the Y, but my hubby is being a tight wad.  I think I will cancel his membership to the Y (he is working in TX). We have a family membership there since that is our ultimate destination if we ever sell this house.  I'd enjoy the Y b/c I could drop the kids off for a bit while I exercise.  That'd be so nice.  Maybe I can convince my hubby that I am doing enough to save us money, and perhaps he could cancel his membership instead if it is a money issue.  LOL!

I came up so we wouldn't have to pay for an apartment or rent a house in TX.  We're hoping we'll sell this house.  It's dirt cheap, so we think it will sell.

We frequently have unexplained odors.  Often my family cannot smell them and I can.  Sometimes it is a gross smell (I get suspicious of my family members on those times, LOL).  Usually it is a smell of a cigarette burning.  We have no smokers.

Other times I smell something kind of floral.  I recognize it as maybe a magnolia or something.  At my mom's house I kept smelling a lemony smell.  I know my mom never cleans and that couldn't have been it.  I checked her supplies and she had nothing.  Besides I was staying there and knew nobody had used lemon scented anything.  I asked my mother about it and she couldn't think of anything.  Nobody could smell it but me also the smokey smell, just me.

One night I sensed something in my mom's room.  We were sleeping in her bed b/c she was out of town.  I made some noises like clearing my throat b/c I felt I could not sleep because I sensed something.  That's how I keep my hubby from going asleep when I am scared (tee hee).  He thought I was irritated because our daughter was walking around the bed to his side to climb up with him.  He reached his hands out to pick  her up and realized it was not our daughter.  She turned and walked out of the room through the closed doors.  My hubby decided to tell me that in the morning so I could sleep.

Yes, I believe there are ghosts.  I've had a lot of experiences with them since I was a child.  I tried to ignore them and for the most part I still do.  I think it is dangerous to try to communicate with them.  I just ignore them.  My ghosts have not been really hostile, luckily.

I do have one that makes noises at night in my room, which has kept me from nights of sleep.  But as is the case with most spirits they aren't active all the time.  I have checked everything out in this room and there is no reason for the noise which comes from my armoire.  That is, I know, not like seeing one, it is just my only unsolved mystery.

My husband and I have seen things both together and apart.  My kids have seen things and they don't just see a shadow like my husband and I usually see.

I took my daughter on a tour of Galveston Bay, it happened to be around the time the Ohio girl was dumped in the bay.  My daughter kept telling my mom to "help that girl out of the water".  We didn't know of the girl being dumped there for over a month later.  We were thinking she saw a ghost from the big hurricane in 1900.

When my oldest was just three he'd frequently tell me about the man in our house.  The first time he saw it he started to follow it upstairs and turned to ask me "Is that Daddy"?  He used to let me know where the man was all the time.  We had many practical jokes played on us by this ghost.  I did ask it to stop at one time and it was pretty good for a long time.  We sometimes saw something in our room at that house and it would hover over us and then back away and disappear.  We'd be like "do you see that"?

When we moved from that house one of the movers would not go in the house.  The ghost had played a joke on him one time too many.  Our ghost was taking a blanket that they used to cover furniture with and putting it up on the wall with a nail.  This continued to happen each time he left a blanket in the house and went outside.  So, he refused to go back in.

During that same time my husband and I had water flicked at us from out of nowhere when we were standing in the living room.  I think the ghost was going to miss us.  I don't know if he followed us or not, but my hubby has seen stuff at this house and I have too, but for me it was different.  I see little girls doing ring-around-the-rosie in my bedroom and ofcourse the banging in my room at night.

Once when I stayed at a relative's house I was sitting there watching tv and the Bible on the table in front of me moved. I looked at it and it just went sliding from nearly the center of the table all the way off of the table.  I wasn't scared, just amazed.

The only time I get scared is when I see the shadowy figure or when it makes a lot of noise in my room.  I just don't open my eyes.  I get the feeling it wants me to see it or acknowlege it so I don't.

I had one that cried and cried at one house and it liked to play with a lamp in the living room when I had my back turned.  I liked the lamp off because it gave a glare on my computer screen and each time I would turn it would go off.  I commanded that spirit to leave and it left.  At the time I had just miscarried and had cancer.  I felt this one was trying to tell me something with the crying.  I told it I would go back to the doctor and it had to leave.  That was one of a few times I talked back.

That's just some of the ghostly things.  I guess they could all be my imagination or my husband's and kids imaginations and mine.  Or we could explain it as some misfiring neurons or whatever.  I believe they are real.
Weight Loss HELP: Does anyone else have stomach problems? What foods do you eat so you don't cause stomach problems? Jan 06 2008

A healthy balanced diet shouldn't make you sick unless you have some other problem going on (like GIRD or allergy).  I doubt that it is an allergy if you were previously eating an average american diet of processed foods.

Eat clean.  If you still have the problems log what you eat and when you have the problem so you can see what is causing it.

See a gastroenterologist to see what is going on.

The only other thing would be an eating disorder.  I don't know you so I don't know if that could be or not.  I had an ED when I was young and I did eventually have vomitting after every meal and sometimes even one bite would start vomitting.  So, if that is the case, get help.

In any case see a doctor and be honest about what you are eating and what is going on.  Keep a journal of when you  have the episodes and see how that lines up with what you are eating at that time (write everything down).  Make a doctor appointment now.

If it is GIRD, that would not be a lot of stuff coming up in your mouth.  Vomitting is more violent and although it can come up as a surprise you have a little warning (about enough to get to a trash can or toilet).  Vomitting is also going to result in emptying more of the contents of your stomach than GIRD will if it comes up into your mouth.  Most of the time reflux does not come all the way up and you will feel nothing except maybe heartburn, but some don't feel that until they have erosions.

Sorry for the gross post (tee hee).  Good luck and see a doctor.  Eating clean will hopefully help.

Maybe you are allergic to healthy food (just kidding). Maybe it is stress?  See your doctor, I'd see gastroenterologist if it were me.
Fitness abs on belly fat Jan 06 2008

I just did a quiz on realage.com the other day and found out that the way to minimize belly fat is to do cardio.  I thought the answer was do crunches.

I think crunches will improve tone under the fat, but you have to burn fat.  The more muscle you have also more calories you burn.

Stay in your calorie range and eat enough calories so you can burn the fat.

I have a little flab to lose there too.  Ugh!  I hate it and it has to go.

good luck.
