Weight Loss I need honest opinions on post-weight loss skin issues :/ (photos) Oct 02 2009

Thank you guys so much for giving me your thoughts. I really do appreciate it! I really really needed to know what you guys (fellow "losers") thought? lol

Veronica, thank you so much for your story! I really needed to know if it was "worth it" for people most of the time ya know? I'm worried about the whole dying thing lol...anestethia. But,  I will probably end up doing it.

Merylwhite1, I respect your thoughts..but honestly, if you has skin like this you would get it. I know that seems harsh but...it feels like it's weird, and ugly, and everyone will judge it the minute I show them.  To a point I don't care what people think...to a point. Ya know? It sucks to never want to wear a bikini or be sexy and show my abs off. It's like being an uneasy teenager all over again lol

Thanks guys. I really needed some opinions on it  Because I just..I dunno. It's my only self esteem issue. I'm fine with myself otherwise.

Weight Loss Weight Gain While Sick? Sep 19 2009
20:26 (UTC)

Me too! I have been feeling kinda sick and have had a runny nose and have gained weight (which is ok, because I was wanting to gain some anyways) but I have been poofy, bloated, gassy and irregular too.

Could that somehow correlate with getting sick???

Well, the more people that are alike on this issue the more likely it is that we're right lol. I looked it up but I can't find anything. I thought maybe retaining water too, musicismylife.

Thank you kdfaith. By the way..yes it IS sick/weird/funny! (I know every calorie count know to man as well..it's like being a walking dictionary isn't it?)

Abbi,  I do understand. I mean, I didn't get the seriousness of it until this summer when I did some reading. My bones could be getting brittle. If I went further my hair might fall out. My organs will shrink. I could screw up my heart tissue. So, I'm definitely adament to not let my weight slip. Hell, my tail bone used to stick out and I HATED it. Ya know? If I fall off something..I'm breaking something. I used to admire the fact that my body fat was 13% and my BMI was 19, but as of my most recent weight it was 18. And that's not cool. I realize now it wasn't before. I do need -some- fat, unlike the models on tv seem to assure that I don't.  Thank you for your "harshness". It wasn't harsh, it was straight. I like that.

Wow blueberry...I mean, I've been called "anorexic" and stuff before by my family, but I didn't really pay attention. I assured them I wasn't. I mean, I'm really not trying to lose weight. But I guess I just now realized I still was eating 900 calories a day or less and that's just not what healthy people do. But I didn't have that mindset anymore ya know? I was -trying-. I just felt like I was being healthy now. Because before I knew I had a bit of a problem, but I snapped out of it..I thought. Hm...well, I think I am way better than before.

Thank you so much for your honesty! I appreciate it. Thinking about it, and realizing you guys said that too...it makes me see that step towards a problem. So...should I ignore my "first thoughts" for a while? I still want to count calories and stuff, but I see it as a way to see if I'm getting enough and if I need to add more, not to add less. Is that good or bad?

As far as the exercise, I do kinda miss it. To be honest, when I went to the gym before I went everyday for an hour and that was sort of an issue too maybe... But I do miss the nice "post-work out feeling" ya know? But, I won't do much I don't think. Just some weights a few days a week. Lunges and leg lifts blah blah blah, maybe some dancing. Does that sound good?

Thank you again, you've been a huge help. I -will- be careful I promise. I'm trying to override my thoughts a little. But something in me still hates that I have to gain at least 10 pounds. I'm trying to get that outta my head though, because I'm doing this for good reasons: as annoying as it is, I want my period back. Then my hormones will go back to normal and regulate my body temp. I will make my bones less visible. My mom and my best friend are really worried. And...I won't hurt myself when I run into things as much :) lol..

*hugs*

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. It told me on here to maintain my weight I'd need around 1200 calories. So, I'm guessing to gain I'll go beyond that slowly andsee how much it takes.

I'm trying to lift weights in the morning. What kind of cardio should I do, just anything? It's so hard to find the right time when college starts though. I wish I still had my gym membership...:(

Blueberry, thank you that was pretty helpful actually. Somehow I can never convince myself to eat an avacado, but maybe, just maybe. I've been getting a pretty good amount of fats now. Fatty stuff doesn't sit well in my stomach sometimes, but I'm trying. I'm hoping that helps. Actually, my carbs and protiens are pretty balanced too. But, I really wish my carbs were lower. Sorry, it's just a pet peev. I still have vowed never to eat bread, sugar, or fast food just because it makes me feel sick to my stomach. I feel so bad with bread in my stomach and I have no idea why. It makes me feel slow and bogged down, if that makes any sense..? But I am getting whole grains everyday from healthy cereal.

It's pretty hard to make myself hungry considering how little it takes to satisfy my hunger. If I up my exercise, that will increase my appetite and metabolism, correct?

I had higher calories than normal and noticed I wasn't as cold. I'm wondering if that was just in my head haha.

kdfaith411, how long did it take after you gained weight for your period to return? AT first I have to admit..I was happy it stopped. lol I know, that's wrong, but I was thinking "well, this is a nice break....and I can wear my white pants anytime :)". (no, I'm not an idiot, I just see humor in everything sometimes)

fidget, yes..I didn't mean to but I went against her judgement. I went on a trip and accidently lost weight. Then one of my best friends and his sister died this July, and I lost even more weight. Depression and worry has that effect on me. She would still probably hold that against me though. (my doctor) But, yea I still see humor in thinking my doctor looks like a witch....I guess you'd have to see her.

Thanks all. Keep the advice coming people, I'm an open ear to any thoughts from you all.

Weight Loss Question to anyone with loose skin after weight loss, like myself! (or anyone who knows someone with some) Jun 22 2009

Thank you guys :) I appreciate it. So, you're saying guys will look past this? I mean, I know not everyone looks like a super model and everyone has problem areas, but this is a not so typical type of issue. Granted, like you said ily51 if I was seeing a guy and it turned out he had a scar it wouldn't make me go "well, bye" if I really liked him. But guys are different...they're more into looks than we are, you know? Some more than others obviously but...I dunno, I just don't want to be with a guy that thinks I'm incredible, but is turned off by my wrinkles. But I guess like you said, if they really care, they won't focus on it. :/

Chocorific, thanks haha. That's what I was hoping, but I mean they are there to look at you ya know? I just figured it might be....I dunno, not a deal breaker, but a let down? But I am starting to try new creams and exfoliators now :)

Healthmd and wiltshirelass, I'm also strength training to try and make it tighten. But the problem is, I'm seeing more "bulk" and "pushing out" and no tightening. How can I change that?

Thank you Judy :) I hope you're right lol.

I'm just tired of being afraid of people seeing it. I can't afford surgery, and it scares me too. So....I'm looking for any alternative fixes :/. Or, people who don't care haha. ;)

(UPDATE) Well, I felt so bad this morning I almost called off work :/. So....I got really desperate and used a very very small enema. I'm not gonna go into details...but you're right, I need a lil less fiber, more fat and more water for sure.

And the prune juice? Did nothing that I know of. I guess I'll drink a glass a day and see if it helps "regulate".

I've had very little protein today. A fair amount of fiber, and an ok amont of fat (I think?). Geez.....I hope this helps. Today has sucked overall and I just feel..bad.

Thanks guys. I appretiate it a lot.

(update) Well, I drank warm prune juice at 6am. I'm hoping it will work its magic before I have to go to work. Seriously. I'm in pain. 3 days is not normal for me at all. But, it's almost 9 now..and I feel it...but nothing else. Geez. This sucks. How long should the juice normally take? I drank about 8 oz. I ate breakfast at a little before 7:30. I'm going to lay off meat a little today and eat more nuts and veges. Good plan?

Thank you all for your help. Tomorrow morning I'm going to drink prune juice before breakfast and see how that goes. Then, I'll keep moving down the list slowly until something works lol. I'm thinking tea next.

I already drink half a pot of coffee or more and it doesn't affect me.

I really hope this works....I feel and look like hell. And not to be even more tmi, but I have bad gas. lol...

Thanks.

Mk. Thanks for all your replies by the way everybody.

So, with the prune juice, I've read to drink it in the morning before breakfast..? Do any of you have any other thoughts? Should I drink it on an empty stomach, or does it matter? Oh, and how soon can I expect um..results? (trying not to have an issue at work lol)

And the same questions with the tea!

I eat all bran and that is -supposed- to have that whole "10 day challenge" effect, but that seems to be gone.

(P.S yes, school kinda has been stressing me out lately. I need a break. But, I can't. :/ Work and school make me a dull girl.)

EDIT: Nope. I don't take any drugs. (legal or otherwise lol)

So...will a high fat meal speed things along?

I got like 45% cals from fat yesterday (and probably today).

So.....should I try prune juice? I've only had one "review" of prune juice, so I don't really know about it. I heard it helps...but I wanted some testimonials, so to speak.

P.S I think if I drink anymore I might drown internally..lol.

P.P.S I thought enemas were safe...?

Well, I know which one it is and I called to see if they have any healthy alternatives like salads and etc. or unmarinated meats. Nope. None. *grumble* lol This is going to be a dinner that amounts to only a few bites of random veges and meat and then I'm done.

I hate soy sauce and rice. lol  I should probably hint at picking a different place if nothing else just to save him some money ;)

Weight Loss Carbs! Oct 08 2008

Kizzichan,

While gi-jane is right, you could also do low carb. Low carb works very well and can be great for losing body fat and inches. In a low carb diet you do 60% fat, 35% protien and 5% carbs. For Atkins for the first 2 weeks you get 20g carbs a day of fresh veggies or flax seed and etc. (it can be very strict) Then you move on to a few different phases and get to add carbs back in. (check out atkins.com) But anyways, I'm not joking here...you will definitely lose weight in the first 14 days. Calorie wise you can technically choose not to count. However, I did but I didn't really have to. It's fairly easy to stay at around 1600 cals.

Low carb isn't for everyone. It can be hard for some people to stick to it. And some people can do just as well on other diets. However, if you want to try something new for 2 weeks, go for it :). But, if you want to cut calories, listen to gi-jane. She knows what shes talking about 99.9% of the time :D lol.

Hello. I would say it would be best not to try unless you really really want to. They told me no because I didn't have a high enough BMI. They said they would prefer people whos weight has been stable for about 6 months to a year.

So, do what you want. :) If you beef up the iron be careful not to overdo it. But I would just wait a year.

Hmm. Well, I guess maybe....sweating more + not drinking as much = constipation? I see. That indeed makes sense. Because it would take more water out of your..business.

I've been getting my usual 25ish grams of fiber. But, I guess my drinking was probably cut down a lot. I didn't have time to go get much. I think in a 5 hour period I had a bottle and a half of water.

Thanks!

I have to agree with tasha21217. I lost 175 pounds over the course of 3 years (more like 2) and while it did shrink back a lot because I'm 18, there's still skin on my stomach and thighs that is embarrissing. I've found that moisturizing helps some. Shea butter helps. But really, most likely you will need surgery. I've been told by my doctor to seek out a plastic surgeon because it won't stretch back. (which suprised me to hear a doctor tell me to go to a plastic surgeon..)

Good luck.

Nope, it's true. Carbs aren't "necessary" at night time because you are winding down and aren't doing as much. It's better to eat carbs in the morning to get you going and keep you slightly fuller longer. That's what I do too. (former/kinda still member of Atkins)

Mareneedear,

I'm 5'7ish. I know...technically I should be happy. Technically. But you and I both know how damn frustrating it is to backtrack, right? It's like I'm letting myself down. I look at myself and I can see the 6 pounds. (even if people say they can't.) Because somehow everyone could see when I lost 6 pounds...but when I gain them back, magically you can't see it anymore? Right.

Sorry, I'm not venting about you . I'm just venting. It feels like my family is happy that I've gained. But I'm miserable right now.

Thanks for caring though. :)

Thank you guys. I really need your help and opinions!

Ok, firstly I'm definitely not pregnant lol. (unless my name is Mary) However, I do not menstrate due to weight loss and my doc said it would come back eventually.

Secondly, yes my clothes fit slightly tighter. (in my opinion)

I work 5 hours a day 5 days a week to get 25 hours. They say if you work 6+ hours you get a break.

If I'm holding water it's the longest I've ever held it with NO change whatsoever.

And I also did nothing (like eat 3500 cals a day and sit on my arse) to gain weight. So I'm really really upset.  *sigh*

Thanks again guys.

But I was maintaining for soooo long at 126-128....why did this happen so suddenly? It was 6 pounds in 2 days. :/ And now, 2 inches on my waist.

I thought zig-zagging calories worked?

Oh, and I work part time. Part-timers get no breaks.

I dunno. I tried increasing my cals and that increased/maintained my weight. I tried increasing exercise, that increased/maintained my weight. So, I really have a hard time believeing in eating more. Esspecially when I'm just not that hungry. I dunno. You could be right though I guess. At this point, nothing is working so I don't know what to do.

Thanks for the advice though.

It says I should eat 1500 calories a day. But I put my activity as light.

I just don't have time to eat. I don't get breaks at work.  And I have to go to college from work. (night classes end at 10) So I usually eat breakfast and a lunch/dinner at 4 and I try to bring some nuts to class with me.

So, if I start eating the right amount of calories everyday will the weight return to normal soon? :/

Normally, anywhere between 800-1700. It really varies sometimes. I would say 1300 is a good estimate lately. I know it's too little technically, but it's been lower and it's been higher so I'm happy with that.

I'm 18 and I've lost 175 pounds. I've been told by a doctor that my skin won't stretch back so, I've been looking into surgery. I'm currently looking for a surgeon so I can get an estimate, then I'll start saving.

But, yes, you're not alone. A lot of people on here have loose skin issues too.

I'm sooooo self concious about mine. It really makes me leary of dating :/

But, the arms can be improved I've found. The stomach, pelvic area and legs can only see minor improvements unfortunately.

Good luck.

Well, I was worried about that... I gained 7 pounds last weekend which I'm really hoping is water after all. But I've just never had it stay THIS long. It's usually like 3 days. And I didn't even eat really bad things! Just high sodium for a day or 2. So, I was just trying to see what was normal.

Has anyone ever had water retention for over a week that went away on it's own?

ivyrose,

Well, I'm used to a few pound flucuation. 126-129. But when it jumps to 132 in a couple of days it really throws me off. :/

I woke up this morning and it's, once again, still 132. Is there any chance at all it's still water? Or muscle? Or glygocen? Something to give me some hope. I mean I've dealt with water weight before but never this long. It's usually like 2 days. But normally I'd say "ok, I'll measure myself" to see if it was just muscle or something gained instead. However, I have an inch on my waist now so that's also discouraging.

I did bump my calories yesterday to 1680.  I was scared but I thought, "what the hell, you gain weight anyway right?". And nothing changed so...I guess that's a start.

I dunno. It's really really a let down because I haven't weighed this much since May.

Sorry to keep complaining. I'm just looking for answers. Has anyone else held water this long? Or had this same problem?

Well, I'm eating what I always eat (after the chili days) which is lean meat (usually chicken and fish), veges, eggs, nuts, and some whole grain. My sodium intake is usually in the 700's.

I drink water, sugar free drink mix and coffee.
