This was very interesting, you seem to have weight loss and gain down to a fine art. I suppose what it boils down to is feeling hungry but staying on target and feeling full and gaining. It doesn't seem fair.

Ugh, this has happened many a time. Mostly with either older, snooty women who think they've 'earned' the right to be in the way just by being alive longer; or by numbers of young pre-teens who see it as some sort of power struggle.

I love walking along in London with my 6'2'' male friend because *everyone* moves whereas I just get walked on. Apart from height I've noticed that some people get noticed more than others for no apparent reason, i wonder why that is...

I left before being able to read your replies, but thanks anyway. I'm a vegetarian and they only had about 3 veggie options on the menu. Avoided the veggie chimichanga but luckily there was a spicy pasta dish...was this the right choice? I hope so, I've logged it as 450Kcal but estimates for similar dishes range from 350 up to about 900 :oS

I have the same problem but with dinner. Avoid the sugar is my advice, it always gets me - for the last few weeks I've been really good all day and when I'm about to go to bed I think "Hmm, I still have 300 cals left for today, lets have a treat..." and that's where it all goes horribly wrong - fingers in the peanut butter, eating handfuls of cereal straight out of the box, drinking cans of tinned fruit...ugh. Go with moderate and protein-rich breakfasts. I tend to go fairly bland as well as anything too tasty will make you want more and more even though you don't need it.

Ok, olive oil and nuts noted.

Hmm okay well for example today I've had:

Porridge with sultanas, banana and milk;

Rice cakes, baked beans, salad and yogurt;

Quorn mince over cooked veg;

Hot chocolate, fruit, custard;

And lots of tea.

This comes out at about 1500 Kcal. Not much fat, though...

Thanks for the books and links, I know I'm definitely going to read Skinny Bitch and I'll watch Earthlings, and also see if I can find Eat to Live.

However, my problem is that I've only just got the hang of getting my diet properly balanced the vegetarian way. Whenever I stay with my parents they don't understand that I can't just eat spagetti hoops instead of baked beans.

I need some reasons that will stand up to their arguments. Whenever they ask me why I won't eat meat and I say its because I don't want to be responsible for causing anything to suffer, they just scoff. It would be even worse with a vegan diet and I don't think I have the support to make it work.

I suppose what I'm really asking is how you vegans that have already been through it manage to make people accept it?

Thanks for all your suggestions and links

If you pay for something you definitely expect it to at least be *nice*. I always feel cheated when I have something I could have made better and lower-cal myself. Its like being careful with money, but instead with calorie expenditure!

Plus I won't eat something 'bad' unless I know its going to sustain me a little bit rather than just make me want more and more.

I think this is a good idea, however I do wonder wether it is better to

1. Reward for not binging

2. Punishment for binging (I think the guilt would be enough though)

3. Small rewards/ punishments every time it happens

4. A big goal for going a specified amount of time.

There is a series on UK television at the moment called Freaky Eaters and its all about people who are unable to maintain a 'normal' diet. The last one I saw was about a man who only ate biscuits, cookies and chocolate. He had to supplement his diet with so so many vitamins from a jar but because he was still eating all the wrong things there were alarming projections for his body in the future.

The thing it always comes down to is pychology. Usually there's been something in these peoples' pasts that made them develop their eating habits. The experts help them by setting them short term goals to achieve and getting their families to support them.

Maybe you could try exploring the problem a bit more before completely dismissing veggies?

Just found this post, I think its a great show. I tried the chocolate truffles with coffee in them and they were really good. Also tried the moussaka, which also worked pretty well.

Either of you see the one where they took on the professional chefs' recipes? They did really well.

False. Hopefully going over the next few weeks though, since they're all opening now :oD Love traditional coasters but nothing with a queue longer than 30mins unless its *that* good. Better to go on lots of smaller ones than spend the entire day waiting.

Wow.

I wish we could do something about the media. Its something everyone I talk to agrees with, but since nothing's happening to change the skinny, big-breasted, air-brushed 'ideal' woman (or muscular, facially-symmetrical man for that matter) I think that people are all talk.
Foods I need sugar! Mar 21 2008

I know its difficult. What I do is make a very small low-cal but heavy on the cocoa cake. Then I drench it in low cal squirty cream or custard - anything to make it seem like there's a lot more food than there really is - and make a strong cup of low cal cocoa. Squirt cream over everything - it looks like there's loads but its so so low-cal. I think mine's usually more of a chocolate than sugar craving though...

So sad its finished. I love one of the last episode where she follows that guy and his sister when they go for a walk and steps in a puddle which turns out to be about 5ft deep. Brilliant visual humour, although the church meetings are the best.

When you're walking around in socks and someone has been a bit too enthusiastic with the washing up so you step in a massive puddle and they were either your last pair or you have to put them on the radiator until they're dry and end up with a pair on each radiator of the house until you learn to put shoes on.

Don't feel guilty about not allowing yourself the temptation. Good move.

Do feel guilty about wasting food. Give them to someone else next time.
