My ancestry.com subscription has lapsed but you would need dates and locations to narrow down the possibilities. If you are still searching and have more than a name, send me a message and I will see what I can find. |

| New Members | The Burn Meter... Just a quick question to assist a NEWBIE | Jul 18 2009 13:53 (UTC) |
|
The burn meter estimate is an estimate how many calories you burn per day. I chose sedentary and log most of my activities. If you stay 500 calories below the burn meter estimate, you should lose one pound per 7 days (3500 calories is one pound). The burn meter changes with time and gives a snap shot of what you have burned in calories at that time. |

The burn meter uses the MD Mifflin and ST St Jeor equation. The links are in my journal. I use sedentary and log activities like walking. This has worked for me as I try to keep 500-700 calories under the burn meter estimate.

| Calorie Count | Are there changes taking place? My tagged items have gone funny | Jul 13 2009 17:06 (UTC) |

It could be a server problem. If you look at the status bar you can see where the item is saved. I have an item that is tagged as bread but does not show in the list. I have tried deleting and adding but it doesn't work. Maybe the folks who run this service are on vacation?

| New Members | ? about "burn meter" | Jul 12 2009 16:40 (UTC) |

I set my activity level to sedentary and log activities. This way the burn meter is how many calories I burn just existing. As mentioned, the burn meter will increase if you add activities. To lose a pound a week, stay 500 calories under the burn meter.

Who should I contact about the tagged items not being tagged? If there is a limit to the number of tags, please let me know. The tag option really helps me with logging foods.

I have my activity level set to sedentary and log my walking. I use 100 cal per mile. Staying under the burn meter by 500 to 700 calories per day has allowed me to lose weight. See my journal on walking that I got from About.com

| Calorie Count | incorrect values | Jul 07 2009 16:31 (UTC) |

I try to verify each calorie count food item with the label and if it is wrong, I correct it and tag it. That is quite a difference is calories. I am not sure how the calorie count food items are updated.

That is exactly what happens to me. I later found the tags in the show all list. Thanks for replying. I wonder if this should be posted in another forum? |

7/5/2009 at 1:53 pm EDT I tag items but they don't show. Tag counter does increment. Is there a limit on how many tags one can have?

My dog was afraid of fireworks but as she got older she just ignores them. She still barks at anyone that comes near the house.

http://walking.about.com/cs/howtoloseweight/a /howcalburn.htm I don't use a pedometer but this works for me. I use 100 calories per mile based on my weight.

| Calorie Count | Burn Meter Question... | Jun 19 2009 22:55 (UTC) |
|
The Total Estimate in the Burn Meter Icon is what you burn per day based on the data you entered. I set my activity level to sedentary and log activities. The key is to eat less than the total burn estimate by 500 to 700 calories per day. Your weight drops by one pound for every 3500 calories deficit. My journal has the specifics on how the burn meter is calculated.
Never go below 1200 calories.

| Weight Loss | Scale question? | Jun 18 2009 17:16 (UTC) |

You could calibrate your home scale with a known weight. I use a digital scale that has a strain guage that is more accurate than a spring scale. As mentioned by others, use the home scale as a basis and track your weight loss using it. Jeff

You can find the calories for ham, cheese, tomato, and bread used to make the sandwich. If you didn't make the sandwich yourself, I would pick the items that closely match the sandwich. My journals have the USDA web site that may help. Good Luck.

The burn meter is an estimate of how many calories you burn per day. I set my preference to sedentary and add activities like walking. If you like math, see my journal entry for basal metabolic rate. As mentioned by dolphinclick, you want to stay 500 calories below the number in the upper right of the burn meter. Jeff

| Calorie Count | Counting the Calories from fat? | Jun 12 2009 15:44 (UTC) |

I found this: 1 gram of carbohydrate = 4 calories Knowing the weight in grams you can calculate calories. There are many sources for how many of grams of fat, and carbohydrates are needed per day. I use the total calories and don't worry about grams of fat. In the message posted by flowerynikki, I would use 170 calories.

| Calorie Count | Previous Days Eat and Burn Meter | Jun 11 2009 15:00 (UTC) |
|
I made a journal entry for the burn meter and would like comments. I thought the number just above the burn meter is the daily burn. I set my activity to sedentary and record activities. I know the burn meter updates continously but if your daily burn is 2060 and you exercise and burn 100 calories, the end result should be 2160 at 11:59 pm.

I was down to 179 pounds and then gained it back. Now at 196 I set a goal of 185. I looked feable at 179 and most people wondered if I was OK. I am 5 ft 10in, with the difference being age, I am older. The weight lifting should really help you lose weight with monitoring daily Calorie intake. Congrats on your determination to lose weight.
